Maple Rapids Dispatch, Feb 13, 1890
Mrs Mary Jane Stead was born in Hartland, Livingston Co., Mich., August 12, 
1864.  In the fall of 1868, she came with her parents, Alfred Burnett and wife, 
to Fulton, Gratiot co., and has since resided where she departed this life, Feb 
6, 1890.

April 2, 1889 she was united in marriage to Arthur Stead, who is left with a 
little boy babe to mourn the loss of a wife and mother.  Besides she leaves a 
number of relatives who also deeply mourn her departure, and a large circle of 
acquaintances by whom she will be greatly missed.

Her very severe illness of two weeks was born with great patience.
Two months ago, the 2nd of this month (Feb.) when Mrs. Stead, with her husband, 
stood before us at the marriage altar, little did we then think that her 
cheeks, then bearing the bloom of youth and health would so soon be pale in 
death.  Little did we then think that her wedding dress would so soon become 
her burial shroud.  Little did we then think that her marriage vows 
of "faithfulness unto death" would so soon be completely fulfilled.  But here 
again, we are taught that such are the vicissitudes of life that we can with no 
degree of certainty reckon on anything that depends upon our future existence 
in the present life.
Mrs. Stead was a member of the Fulton Center M.E. church.  Her funeral address 
was delivered Saturday morning in the Christian church by the writer, assisted 
by Rev R.S. McGregor.  The body was buried in the Payne Cemetery.
