Hastings was the son of Sidney S. and Clarissa (Fitch) Hastings born August 25, 1827 in Champion, Jefferson Co., NY and died n November 21, 1894 in Gratiot Co., Michigan. He was a farmer, surveyor and engineer. Sidney S. Hastings and Julia Dix, daughter of David and Harriet Dix, were married on March 2, 1854 in Guilford, Medina Co., Ohio. Julia Dix was born August 4, 1832 in Ohio and died on June 22, 1920 in Mt. Pleasant, Isabella Co., Michigan. Sidney and Julia Hastings had seven children four sons and three daughters; Frank W., born December 29, 1854 who was a mail agent between Saginaw and Lake View and a graduate from the Agricultural School in Lansing, was a practical surveyor and also the Postmaster at St. Louis for about three years. Forest B. Hastings was born February 26, 1857, a farmer in Bethany Twp.,; Russell M. was born March 16, 1859; Mary E. Was born January 11, 1862 and died August 27, 1863; Fannie E. was born September 6, 1865; Charlie S., May 31, 1869 and Hattie C., November 30, 1871.
