Monument located in Old Part Section 2 Lot 204

SHIPPEY MONUMENT

Inscription on three sides of monument:

SIDE 1:

STEPHEN HENRY
1843 - 1924

SIDE 2:

ELIZABETH 
1855 - 1916

SIDE 3:

MINNIE 
1870 - 1872

BABY

Note:  Civil War Veteran - Co E 2nd Mich Cav.  Stephen Henry Shippey date of 
birth September 6, 1843 and date of death January 22, 1924.    

Nancy Elizabeth (Layman) Shippey was the wife of Stephen Henry Shippey.  They 
were the parents of DeGrasse Shippey, Minnie Shippey and Baby Shippey.

Death cerificate shows she was the daughter of George Layman and Nancy Herrou, 
female, white, married, born May 10, 1853, Indiana and passed away April 21, 
1816 Howard City, Montcalm Co., MI at the age of 62 years, 11 months and 11 
days, cause of death Colocystitis producing grand infection.  Informant 
Stephen Shippey, Howard City, Mich.  Burial was on April 24, 1916 St. Louis, 
Mich.

No other information on Minnie Shippey or Baby Shippey.  Inscription on that 
side of the monument is barely readable.  
Note:  Death records gives birth year of 1853 and headstone 1855.
