An Indian Life Convict.
Among the life convicts at the State prison is an old Indian named Louis Campau,
familiarly known as "Old 
Louis." He was sendtenced from Lake Superior twelve years since for murder, the
particulars of which are 
somewhat interesting. He discovered a rich copper mine, but refused to tell where it
was located. A 
fortune-seeker offered him $100 to show him the spot, and Louis agreed to do so,
After the latter had 
taken him there, the former refused to pay the price, and Louis threatened that he
would compel him to. 
One day the two met in a wood, and the Indian again being refused the sum, he killed
the man and fled. He 
was arrested and sentenced. ___ behavior is excellent and he is accordlingly allowed
many privileges, 
being employed in the barn as a "lumper." Some time since he came in possesion of a
hound, and nursed 
him until he grew large. The dog became so attached to his master that he was
continually with him, and 
Louis claimed him as his best friend on earth. Yesterday a kind hearted individual
offered him $10 for the 
animal, and Louis only accepted the offer after receiving assurance that the dog
would be well cared for. -
