Dear Brother: How are you all? I think of you every day and have started letters to you but have never got finished. I started one for your anniversary. I know this will not reach you on your birthday, wish I had something nice to send you. Thank you for the money you sent me. I bought me a pair of shoes and a hat. have been sorry i didn't save it to help get some glasses. I get so tired of not bing able to see to do things. I have not felt so good this summer I fell on the ice and frozen snow last winter striking on my chest did not break any bones I guess but it hurt pretty bad, seemed to tear me all to pieces inside especially my heart. Haven't got over it yet. Grover has been working on W.P.A. since last March. I had a good garden and lots of pretty flowers. Did you get my card from Detroit? Claude took us down to spend a week with them they live there. (Claude was Grovers son by his first marriage) They have a little son since I wrote you. We had a good time I had never been to Detroit before. You don't know how I want to see you. Are you still working on your ranch? How are your avacadoes? They have had some here in the store but they were larger. Do you still have flowers? This is the peasant hunting season here, we have had several. I have not heard from George (her younger brother) much. I wrote him where is he and what is he doing? Must be he didn't like his stay in Michigan. We did the best we could for him. We have had several frosts and the leaves are nearly off the trees. We had snow banks we had to dig through in the back yard and snow bank 2 feet deep in the front porch in the middle of last April. Well tell G. I'd like to hear from him if he can find time to write. Well how is Josie (Josephine Williams, Francis's wife) Hope she is o.k. Write to me brother dearest I get so home sick to see someone who belongs to me. Well I have got to go down to the store for some groceries, so must close bye bye love to all signed: sister (Emma Estella (Haynes) Hammond Emma went blind in her later years. dz
