Aldrich was born in Ontario County, N.Y., Feb. 24th, 1835, and received his Heavenly reward at his old home in Somerset December 10, 1910. Had he lived untill February 24th he would have been 76 years old. At the age of two years he was brought to Michigan and has been a resident of our state from that time. In 1860, he began the pursuit of agriculture and to say that he has been a successful farmer is only expressing a fact that is well known. He has acquired 130 acres of as good land as we have in our county, which he has left in an excellent state of tillage. October 8th, 1862, he was married to Miss Isabel VanAlstine, who with equal skill has helped to make their lives happy and successful. One daughter came to gladden this home, Ida V. Chandler of Somerset. Deceased has been a member of the school board for many years, and acting in the capacity he has always stood for those things that (Transcriber--a section of the paper is missing, approximately a paragraph). Mr. Aldrich was a man of sterling character and it is well known that if any one had met with misfortune he was one of the first to lend a helping hand. The writer of this little remembrance was in his home two school years and during that time never heard an angry word spoken and never met Mr. Aldrich but that the same calm temperment which always wins prevailed. He was a man who never gave an opinion until asked, and then it was filled with good judgement which school life and life's school had developed in him. A good and beneficial man has been called home by our Heavenly Father, and a host of sympathizing friends bow their heads in grief with the relatives who mourn the man and who will miss him most. The funeral services were held at his late home Dec. 13, Rev. Gordon officiating and interment was in the Aldrich cemetery.
