Margraten U.S. Military Cemetery, Holland

This picture of the grave of Pfc. Jay R. Carncross, sent to the family of Mrs. 
and Mrs. Ray Carncross through the Posy Shop was an acknowledgement of an 
order for flowers to be placed Memorial Day on the grave of their son and 
brother, Pfc. Jay R. Carncross who is buried in the Margraten U.S. Military 
Cemetery in Holland.  This year the picture shows a large area of the 
cemetery.  During the past year permanent crosses with name, rank, branch of 
service, state and deate of death recorded on them have replaced the wooden 
crosses which had only the name and army serial number on them.  The flag of 
Holland along with the United States flag is placed at each headstone.  After 
all the boys which were requested to be brought back to the United States for 
permanent burial were removed from the cemetery, the remaining ones were 
reinterred side by side so no vacant spots occur in the row on row of croses.  
A second military service was held at this time and the same United States 
flag which was used during the burial of Jay was sent to Mr. and Mrs. 
Carncross directly from the cemetery.  At the time of his induction, 10 years 
ago, Jay was empkloyed at the local Kroger store.  He lost his life in action 
near Warmen, Germany, April 10, 1945.
