Miss Hattie Howard
A telegram, announcing the death of Miss Hattie Howard at the home of her 
sister, Mrs. S.N. Gurney, in Detroit, was received by the family in Allen last 
Monday afternoon.  The funeral party arrived in Allen Tuesday afternoon and 
the remains were taken to the home of her brother, Fred Howard.  The entire 
town was in mourning at the sad event.  For several months she had been ill 
and last winter went to Detroit in hopes of relief.  Her death came as a 
result of an operation for kidney trouble.  Born in Allen March 22, 1860, Miss 
Howard has always been a resident of that place.  Though very domestic she was 
very active in work in the Baptist church and was always kind and doing for 
others.  The final services were held at the home Wednesday.  Mrs. J. C. 
Whitney and Mrs. F. A. Roethlisberger of this city attended.
