The Calumet and Red Jacket postofflces were consolidated under the name of Calumet in 1892. It has a population of over 35,000, and the most important mining camp in the Copper Country, if not in the world, being the seat of operations of the famous Calumet & Hecla copper mine, as well as that of the Tamarack, Osceola, Tamarack Junior, Centennial, Wolverine and Kearsarge copper mines.
