Wm and Mathew WAREHAM of Lake Linden and John WAREHAM of Quincy mine are also brothers of the deceased. CORNISH ALL The body of the late Wm CRUSE was buried at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. The funeral was held from the Tamarack Methodist church. His sons Postmaster and Mrs. Alfred CRUSE of Iron Mountain; Edwin CRUSE of Allegan attended the funeral. CORNISH DEATH 1899 Oct 3 Tuesday-Mrs. Kaisa RUATTINEN, aged 71years, died at her home at the Atlantic mine Monday morning. Burial will be the Atlantic Mine cemetery. DEATHS 1899 Oct 4 Wednesday---Edward ROGAN, one of the oldest residents of the Osceola mine location at age 68 years, died last night. He had been a miner for the Osceola mine. He leaves a wife, 4 daughters and one son. Two daughters in Duluth were notified. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Hancock. 1899 Oct 4 Wednesday--Matt MESSNER, an old resident of the Allouez mine location died at his home Monday morning. He was 60 years old and leaves a wife and family of grown up children. The funeral will be held from the German Lutheran church on Scott Street, Calumet. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. NEWS ITEM 1899 Oct 6 Friday-- County School Commissioner Wm BATH has been visiting the schools of Tamarack and Quincy area. CORNISH DEATH 1899 Oct 7 Saturday-Mrs. Johanna CAVANAUGH died at her Calumet home on Thursday night. When her daughter, Miss Nellie, woke up she was shocked to find her mother, who was sleeping with her, dead in the bed. She was a widow and leaves a family of sons and daughters to mourn her. She will be buried in the Hecla cemetery. MARRIAGE 1899 Oct 7 Saturday-- At the Salvation Army barracks, Calumet on Friday; Captain Joseph POLLARD of the Calumet and Hecla mine wed Miss Belle LEACH arrived Wednesday from her home in Canada. CORNISH DEATH 1899 Oct 7 Saturday- Thomas ENTEMAN, an old resident of Tamarack and formerly of Hancock, died Wednesday afternoon. He was 83 years old and lived in Tamarack the last 10 years. He is survived by a wife and two sons-- Thomas and Charles. He was buried at the Hancock cemetery. NEWS ITEMS 1899 Oct 10 Tuesday-Mrs. John ROWE arrived Saturday from Canada to join her husband. Thomas DENNIS of the Franklin mine to house his family. DEATH 1899 Oct 11 Wednesday -Mrs. E. W. JEWELL, wife of Rev E.W. JEWELL of Christ Church Episcopal of Laurium, died at her home in Laurium yesterday morning. Pneumonia was the cause of her death. Her husband is left with the care of 3 small children. She will be buried at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. DEATH 1899 Oct 13 Friday- Mine Captain Simon KINSMAN of the Champion Mine, Marquette County was instantly killed by falling 1000 feet to the bottom of the mine. He was known as one of the best mining Captains in the Lake Superior district. CORNISH NEWS ITEM 1899 Oct 13 Friday-- Thomas BENNETTS of the Quincy mine returned from CORNWALL, ENGLAND the early part of this week after an absence of 3 and one half years, which he spent in the South African mines. MARRIAGE 1899 Oct 13 Friday-- Gust SUPPL and Miss Julia SHEA, both of Quincy and were wed at Quincy mine location yesterday. DEATH 1899 Oct 13 Friday-- The body of Max STUKEL, who died in Denver last Friday, reached Calumet yesterday afternoon and was taken to his sisters home, Mrs. Mat PUHECK on 7th Street. The funeral will take place at the Calumet St Joseph Austrian Church. Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery, Calumet. MILLS wed Miss Euphemia MORRISON DEATH 1899 Oct 19 Thursday-- Christian KRAMER, aged 72 years, who had been a resident of the Lake Superior region for many years, died yesterday at his Lake Linden home. He came from Detroit to Hancock where he lived for 15 years. He then came to Lake Linden and lived here till his death. He leaves 7 children to mourn him--John; Frank; Matthew; Adolph; Elizabeth; Annie and Mary. Five of whom are married. One daughter will be coming from Minneapolis, Minnesota. His home had always been with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John KASPERS of Hurontown, until last August 8th, he married Miss Nellie FINNEGAN.The funeral will be from St Ignatius church, Houghton. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton on Thursday. MARRIAGE 1899 Nov 1 Wednesday-- At Sacred Heart church, Calumet on Tuesday morning, Emil MONGEAU wed Miss Mary A. JENKINS of Atlantic Mine location and Matilda BILGEN of Atlantic mine location DEATH 1899 Nov 4 Saturday-- August KANGAS, a Finnish miner, died in a mine accident in No 2 shaft at the Arcadian mine yesterday afternoon. He was married about 3 months ago. MARRIAGE 1899 Nov 6 Monday-- At St Cecelia's church, Lake Linden Saturday morning; Richard H. JENKINS of Atlantic mine location and Miss Matilda Bilgen of Tamarack city. DEATH 1899 Nov 6 Monday-- August HAKANEN was found on the steps of St Joseph Hospital, Hancock all battered and bruised. He said that two unknown men beat him up and robbed him. He died in the hospital Saturday night in the hospital. He was 56 years old and was Finnish. ERICKSON and Evita OPLAND, both of Calumet DEATH 1899 Nov 7 Tuesday-- Edwin Edward LANGDON, aged 57 years, died yesterday morning at his home in West Houghton of consumption after an illness of 18 months duration. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND in 1842 and came to America in 1857 and locating in the copper country because of the mining industry. For several years he worked in the mines but the last 22 years he was a janitor of the Houghton high school. He leaves a wife, Mrs. Priscilla LANGDON, and two sons --F. T. LANGDON and Wm LANGDON to mourn his death. On Wednesday he will be buried at the Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. MARRIAGES 1899 Nov 8 Wednesday-- Victor TERVO of Calumet wed Miss Kristina WAISANEN of Hancock. Services were held at the home of Peter WAISANEN, and the Finnish Lutheran church choir of, Hancock. , of which the bride was a member sang. They will live in Calumet. 1899 Nov 8 Wednesday--At the Hancock Finnish Lutheran church on Monday evening, Alfred SLIFEN wed Miss Annie STROLBERG. The groom is employed at the Finnish printing office and they will live in Hancock. NEWS ITEM 1899 Nov 8 Wednesday-- Victor MATSON and wife left Sunday night en route to Helsingfors, Finland. He has fallen heir to a fortune left him by his father. He has sworn off of drink and has given the money to his wife to keep for them so he won't be tempted to spend it on riotous living. NEWS ITEM 1899 Nov 8 Wednesday-- Aubrey PHILLIPS of Calumet left on the late train Sunday night en route to his home town in CORNWALL, ENGLAND He will spend 3 months visiting relatives. 1899 Nov 9 Thursday-MARRIAGE LICENSES ISSUED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY Wm J. SIGKER and Mary GAFFNEY, both of Calumet Math MAJERLE and Johanna PEZDIRE, both of Tamarack DEATH 1899 Nov 10 Friday-- Jacob HOLOPA, a Finnish miner, about 65 years old, worked for the Kearsarge Mining company in the mine and after many years he retired about a year ago to rest the rest of his life. He found he could not do nothing all day so he was taken back to work in the mine. On his first day back, Wednesday, he was hit by a skip and died in the Tamarack hospital yesterday. Capt. Wm SKEWIS gave testimony at the inquest. CORNISH CAPT SKEWIS NEWS ITEM 1899 Nov 11 Saturday-- Victor BURMAN, who conducted a Finnish newspaper in Hancock for several years and sold out to people in Calumet, has been offered and accepted another position on a paper in his native country, Finland. He will leave with his family for Finland the latter part of this month. DEATHS 1899 Nov 11 Saturday--Jacob LAIKIA, a Finnish miner, was killed in a mine accident at the Kearsarge mine, while working at No 2 shaft of the mine yesterday. He left a wife and family to mourn him. 1899 Nov 11 Saturday-- Morris CONDON, one of the oldest residents of the Osceola mine location, died yesterday in his 73rd year at home. He is survived by his wife, 3 sons and 1 daughter-- John; Michael and Andrew; also Mrs. John ROEHM. DEATH 1899 Nov 15 Wednesday-- Henry STEVENS, died Tuesday night at his boarding house on the Kearsarge Mine location. He died of spinal meningitis only after a week of being ill. He was 24 years old and had been at Kearsarge mine only 4 months after coming from the Transvall, South Africa. He had been employed in Hancock as a stone mason. The body will be sent today to Jackson, Michigan for burial as his aged mother lives there. He has two brothers in this area and will accompany the body to Jackson. DEATH 1899 Nov 24 Friday-- Anton MILLER, the well-known brew master, died at his Lake Linden home Wednesday morning. He was born in Germany 1846 Feb 13. In 1869 he emigrated to America and settled in Houghton where he was married to Miss Kathleen JOHNS in 1874. He lived in Houghton 7y years after he was married and than he moved to Lake Linden. He returned to Houghton and worked at two breweries there. He then moved back to Lake Linden and was brew master at Bosch Brewery there and was the first one at that plant and he stayed there for many years. He is survived by a wife and 6 children-- John; Tony; Mary; Frank; Victor and Peter. One son, Charles, is dead. Burial at Maple Hill cemetery, Lake Linden. NEWS ITEM 1899 Dec 28 Thursday-- An article in our paper yesterday referring to a query from a CORNWALL, ENGLAND newspaper to the whereabouts of a lady named either STEPHENS or JAMES, brought a response. She is in Park City, UTAH and she is Mrs. Elizabeth JAMES. For years the family lived at Calumet Her husband was a miner in Calumet and they had a daughter, now married and a son. The family moved in March 1884 to Arizona, then to California where they lived several year and finally to Park City, Utah. Mrs. JAMES's people lived at TALLEYWARN STREET, CAMBORNE, CORNWALL, ENGLAND and owned property there. It is presumed that Mrs. JAMES is the only heir to the property. He found he could not do nothing all day so he was taken back to work in the mine. On his first day back, Wednesday, he was hit by a skip and died in the Tamarack hospital yesterday. Capt. DEATH 1899 Nov 24 Friday-- Anton MILLER, the well-known brew master, died at his Lake Linden home Wednesday morning. He was born in Germany 1846 Feb 13. In 1869 he emigrated to America and settled in Houghton where he was married to Miss Kathleen JOHNS in 1874. He lived in Houghton 7y years after he was married and than he moved to Lake Linden. He returned to Houghton and worked at two breweries there. He then moved back to Lake Linden and was brew master at Bosch Brewery there and was the first one at that plant and he stayed there for many years. He is survived by a wife and 6 children-- John; Tony; Mary; Frank; Victor and Peter. One son, Charles, is dead. Burial at Maple Hill cemetery, Lake Linden. NEWS ITEM 1899 Dec 28 Thursday-- An article in our paper yesterday referring to a query from a CORNWALL, ENGLAND newspaper to the whereabouts of a lady named either STEPHENS or JAMES, brought a response. She is in Park City, UTAH and she is Mrs. Elizabeth JAMES. For years the family lived at Calumet Her husband was a miner in Calumet and they had a daughter, now married and a son. The family moved in March 1884 to Arizona, then to California where they lived several year and finally to Park City, Utah. Mrs. JAMES's people lived at TALLEYWARN STREET, CAMBORNE, CORNWALL, ENGLAND and owned property there. It is presumed that Mrs. JAMES is the only heir to the property.
