Jackman CALUMET--- John G. Jackman, 67, of Tamarack Waterworks Road, Calumet, died Saturday, January 23, 1999 at his home, of an apparent heart attack. He was born in Centennial Heights, Mich.; on August 12, 1931, the son of John and Edna Mae (Pearce) Jackman, and attended local schools. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Ruottinen on September 16, 1950. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the U.S. Airforce. Jack worked in Detroit for several years; for his uncle, George, as a woodsman; and as the assistant manager for the Houghton County Airport for several years. He was a member of the Quinnesec Muzzle Loaders, The U.P. Muzzle Loaders and the American Legion Post 61 of Calumet-Laurium. Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman. Preceding him in death were his parents; and infant sister, Dixie; and an infant son, Mark. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn; five sons, Don and Tracy of Tennessee, John and Joyce of Tennessee, Kevin of Wisconsin, Brian of Calumet and Dean and Silvan of Wisconsin; four daughters, Kathleen and Richard Hiltunen of Minnesota, Judy and Ronn Shappley of Tennessee, Candy and Doug Goerdt of Minnesota and Julie Arp of Wisconsin; two brothers, Jim and Mary of Centennial Heights, and Jerry and Phyllis of East Jordon, Mich.; 29 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation for Mr. Jackman will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday evening in the Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet. Cremation will follow the visitation. The family asks to please omit flowers. The American Legion will hold their service at 7 P.M. Tuesday in the Peterson Funeral Home. Jetta, 86, a former resident of Acorn Street, Calumet, died yesterday at Calumet Public Hospital where she had been a patient for six weeks. The former Ellen Koskela was born Nov. 24, 1895 in Copper Falls, a daughter of the late John and Kaisa Koskela. She moved to Calumet as a child and lived there most of her life, except for 20 years when she made her home in the Detroit area. She attended the Calumet Public Schools. Mrs. Jetta was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerry Pearce, in 1935. Her second husband, Wallace Jetta, died in 1942. Mrs. Jetta was a member of the Calumet-Laurium-Keweenaw Senior Citizens. She was a resident patient at the Laurium Elders Home since 1978. Survivors include one nephew, William Koskela of Wabena, Wis.; two grandnieces, Mrs. John (Evelyn) Jackman of Calumet and Gloria (Gail) Ruottinen of Kearsarge; one grandnephew, Don Ruottinen of Mt. Clemens; and numerous great grandnieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Erickson- Crowley Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Langseth officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Ruottinen, 63, a former Centennial Heights resident, died Thursday night at her home in Warren, Mich. The former Gladys Koskela, was born Sept. 18, 1914, in Calumet, a daughter of Nestor and Gertrude Koskela. She spent most of her youth in Centennial heights and attended the local schools. For two years she resided in Illinois and since 1950 made her home in Detroit and vicinity. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John (Evelyn) Jackman of West Tamarack location and Miss Gloria Gail Ruottinen of Warren; a son, Don of the U.S. Coast Guard of Cape May, N.J.; a sister, Mrs. Wilbert (Katharine) Haack of Sister Bay, Wis.; an aunt, Mrs. Ellen Jetta of Calumet; 13 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Peterson Funeral Home, with Daniel Skaggs, minister of the Church of Christ of Hancock to officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday.
