A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at the Pigeon River Mennonite Church in Pigeon. Arrangements are by Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, a Golden Rule Funeral Home, in Pigeon. Harold Paul Harold O. "Harry" Paul, Jr., 75, of Richland and formerly of Pigeon, died Feb. 26, 1999 at his residence. He was born Oct. 2, 1923 in Pigeon and graduated from Lakers High School. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Hutcheson) Engelhardt Paul. The Fort Custer Honor Guard will present military honors at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek. Cremains were interred at the cemetery. William Eugene Azarovitz William Eugene Azarovitz, 75, of Madison Heights died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. In 1948, Mr. William Azarovitz and Mildred Mona Taylor were united in marriage in Detroit. He was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Clawson. Bill enjoyed spending time with family, casino gaming and photography. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. William was a member of the Amphibious Tank Division in the Pacific Theater. Surviving are his wife, Mildred; one daughter, Pamela Helen O'Dell and her husband, Joe, of Madison Heights; two sons, Patrick William Azarovitz and his wife, Kathy, of Filion, and Mark Eugene Azarovitz and his wife, Dawn, of Clifford; three sisters, Caroline Head and her husband, Larry, of New Baltimore, Rita Lynch and her husband, Ronnie, of Texas, Ruth Walsh of Madison Heights; two brothers, Richard Azarovitz and his wife, Marlene, of Dearborn, Dennie Azarovitz and his wife, Carol, of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, Ricky, Andrew, Dan, Sarah, Shannon, Angela, Jenna, Stephanie, April and Kaitlyn; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Irene Azarovitz, Leona Miron, Evelyn Schweyer and Berniece Neighbors. A funeral scripture service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 22, 1999, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home of Bad Axe. The Rev. Fr. Jack Leipert, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe, will officiate. Burial will take place at Colfax Cemetery. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until the time of the service today at the funeral home. Justin King Justin N. King, 17, of Millington was called home to be with the Lord when he died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on May 24, 1982 in Lapeer, the son of Amy (King) Reinbold and Lawrence Taljonick. He was a sophomore at Millington High School. He liked cars and music. Surviving are his mother, Amy and her husband, Chris Reinbold, of Saginaw; father, Lawrence Taljonick of Millington; brother, Evan; sister, Marley; grandparents, John and Sandy Aaron, of Saginaw, David King of Port Huron, and Bob and Pat Taljonick of Otisville; great-grandparents, Fran and Tom Neville of Bad Axe and Bruce and Jean Winchell of Freeland; great-great-grandmother, Anna Tilden of Saginaw; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Otisville. Burial was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Davison. Millington High School's Homecoming game was dedicated to Justin. He was an organ donor, and will continue to live on in the hearts of his loved ones and the lives of others. Pauline McArthur Pauline M. McArthur, 95, of Cass City, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, in Tendercare Nursing Facility in Cass City after a short illness. She was born on March 20, 1904 in Traverse City to Orlie and Kate (Gerlinger) Squiers. She married Stanley B. McArthur on June 4, 1927 in Flint. Pauline was a member of the Cass City First Baptist Church for more than 70 years. She was a pianist at the church for more than 50 years. Pauline was a very active Sunday school teacher. She is survived by her husband, Stanley; son, Robert McArthur and his wife, Joyce; grandchildren, Kathleen Daneault and her husband, Andre, Douglas McArthur, and his wife, Brenda, and David McArthur and his wife, Angela, all of Cass City; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Adams, Andrew Adams, Joseph Daneault, Anthony McArthur and Stacey McArthur. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Margaret; great-grandson, Philip Robert Adams; sisters, Velma Squiers and Georgia Thompson. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, in the Cass City First Baptist Church with the Rev. Eric Holmgren officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City. Memorials may be given to the Cass City Baptist Church. Michelle Gobie Michelle L. Gobie, 37, of Ubly died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, in Cass City from injuries sustained in an auto accident. She was born Aug. 24, 1962, in Detroit, the daughter of Ronald and Patricia (Partaka) Affer. She married Stephen W. Gobie, Sr. on Aug. 29, 1980 in Ferndale. She attended Oak Park High School. She was employed at Guaranteed Furniture Store in Berkley as a furniture restorer. She moved to Minden City in 1989, and worked at Minden City Wire. Her latest employment was at Newcor Rubber & Plastic in Deckerville. She was a Cub Scout Den Leader in Ubly. She is survived by three sons, Stephen W. Gobie Jr., Patrick Gobie and Scott Gobie, all at home; her parents, Ronald and Patricia Affer, of Minden City; five brothers, Ronald Affer and his special friend, LuAnn, of Minden City, Mark Affer of Warren, John Affer and his wife, Gwen, of Warren, Michael Affer and his wife, Kim, of Bad Axe and Edward Affer of Bad Axe; one sister, Heide Terrasi and her husband, Carl, of Minden City; her maternal grandfather, John Partaka of Palms. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Charles and Emma Affer, and her maternal grandmother, Isabel Partaka. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at the Smigielski Funeral Home in Minden City. Pastor Ellen Burns of the Minden City United Methodist Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be given to the Gobie Children's Trust Fund. Olga Menzel Olga H. Menzel, 86, died Sunday evening, Oct. 17, 1999, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw following a six-month illness. She was born on April 2, 1913 in Sebewaing, the daughter of the late Henry David and Helena Ernestine (Sonntag) Volz. She was married to Otto Henry Menzel on Nov. 26, 1933 in Sebewaing. He preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 1983. Olga was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. She enjoyed sewing and was a member of the Sebewaing Garden Club. Surviving are two sons, Harvey Menzel and his wife, Esther, of Essexville and Clarence Menzel and his wife, Pauline, of Spring Valley, Calif.; two daughters, Jane Fleming and her husband, Jim, of San Jose, Calif., and Marylee Kain and her husband, David, of Bay City; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Harlon Volz and his wife, Rose, of Sebewaing; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one grandson, James Peter Menzel; one brother, Allen Volz; and one sister, Stella Finkbeiner. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Martin J. Hagenow will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. Sophie Akers Sophie Akers, 83, of Harbor Beach passed away Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at her home following a short illness. She was born Oct. 21, 1915 in Detroit to the late Stanislaw and Anna (Fila) Zasada. She was a retired employee of the Toy Chest in Detroit. Eighteen years ago she moved into the Harbor House Complex in Harbor Beach. She is a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Detroit. Sophie is survived by a sister, Lottie Hahn, in New Port Richey, Fla., and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Akers; four brothers, Joseph, John, Ted and Stanley Zasada; and four sisters, Helen Harris, Jean Karnafel, Emily Rosiek and her twin sister, Marie Gebus. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at the Harbor House senior dining area. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. Inurnment will take place in Woodmere Cemetery, Detroit. Arrangements are being handled by the Ramsey Funeral Home, a Golden Rule Funeral Home, in Harbor Beach. Memorials may be made to Friends for Life Hospice, Easter Seals or the donor's choice. Jodie Marie Emerick Jodie Marie Emerick, 18, of Bad Axe passed away on March 26, 1999. She was born on June 9, 1980 in Bad Axe, the daughter of Jeffrey and Brenda (Cove) Emerick. Jodie was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe, and a member of the Bad Axe High School Class of 1998. She is survived by her parents, Jeffrey and Brenda Emerick, of Bad Axe; one sister, Jennifer Emerick, of Bad Axe; paternal grandfather, Oren Emerick and his friend, Meg, of Port Hope; paternal grandmother, Pauline Ginther and her husband, Earl, of Curran; maternal grandparents, Robert and Joann Cove, of Bad Axe; maternal great-grandmother, Helen Cove, of Bad Axe; maternal great-grandparents, Earl and Hilmuth Schave, of Port Hope; great-grandfather, Edwin Emerick; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. Officiating was the Rev. Kenneth Lueke, pastor. Burial was in Colfax Cemetery. Visitation was from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe and 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Memorials may be given to the family or to a charity of the donor's choice. Mervin Hoffman Mervin Earl Hoffman, 92, of Elkton died Friday morning, Oct. 15, 1999, at Tendercare in Cass City. He was born May 22, 1907 in Pigeon to the late Charles and Augusta (Strickert) Hoffman. On Dec. 9, 1928, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Waggoner at the First United Methodist Church in Bad Axe. She preceded him in death Dec. 15, 1979. Mr. Hoffman owned and operated the Plymouth dealership in Elkton for many years. He was a member of the Hubbard-Winsor Lodge No. 420 F.& A.M. and the Elkton Senior Citizens. Surviving are his daughter, Peggy Warnke, of Elkton; two sons, Robert Hoffman and his wife, Mary, of Pensacola, Fla., and William Hoffman and his wife, Joyce, of Coldwater; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Simon. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services. A private graveside service will be conducted for the family at Colfax Township Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton. Stanley LaBelle Stanley LaBelle, 69, of Port Austin died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at William Beaumont Hospital in Troy. Mr. Stanley LaBelle and Mary Lou Fewer were married on Aug. 13, 1960 in Detroit. The couple moved to the Port Austin area in 1976, where he opened the LaBelle Dental Lab and worked as a dental technician. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church of Port Austin, the Port Hope Grindstone Sportsman's Club and the U & I Club of Port Austin. Stanley was an avid fisherman and sportsman. He was also the world's greatest dad. Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou; two sons, Rick and his wife, Rochelle, Charlie and his wife, Michelle; two daughters, Debbie and her husband, Jerrie, and Barbara; his mother, Verna Johnson; nine grandchildren, Tracy, Adam, Sandy, Michael J., Renee, Randi, Ricky, Michael L. and Alexis; two sisters, Madelyn Terry and her husband, Herbert, of Standish and Winifred Jackson of Port Austin; two brothers, Rollie Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Marion, of Warren, and Edward Johnson and his wife, Bernice, of Taylor; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Rollie Johnson, Sr., and one brother, Leonard Johnson. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin with the Rev. Father Michael Bell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation was 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Verheyden Funeral Home in Warren and will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the MacAlpine Funeral Home Gage Chapel in Kinde, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the church. Grace Roth Grace I. Roth, 86, of Elkton died Friday morning, Oct. 15, 1999, at Huron Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born Sept. 23, 1913 in Bad Axe to the late Alexander and Anna (Hodgson) Stirrett. She lived in the Detroit area in her youth and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1932. In 1933, her parents died so she came to Bad Axe to live with her aunt. On Dec. 28, 1935, she was united in marriage to Keith Roth in Elkton. He preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1995. Mrs. Roth has lived in Elkton since 1937. She worked as a switchboard operator in the Elkton Telephone Office for a number of years and raised her family after leaving there. She attended Elkton United Methodist Church. Surviving are four sons, Gary Roth and his wife, Kay, of Sterling Heights, Bruce Roth of Grand Rapids, Doug Roth and his wife, Karen, of Dryden, and Curt Roth and his wife, Maurine, of Lapeer; eight grandchildren, Brian, Chris, Scott, John, Renee, Shelley, Brad, and Jennifer; three great-grandchildren, Adris, Logan and Sieanna; and her sister, Mildred Bupp and her husband, Lloyd, of Muskegon Heights. A sister, Frances Wetterman, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Elkton United Methodist Church. Hazel Sander Hazel M. Sander, 90, of Bay Port died Friday afternoon, Oct. 15, 1999, at Scenic Nursing Center, Pigeon. Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Leitch and her husband, Daniel, of Bay Port; her son, Carrol Sander and his wife, Loretta, of Rockford; her foster daughter, Jacki Hemlin and her husband, Jack, of Overland Park, Kan.; 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great- great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday at the Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus, Neb., with burial at Creston Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville. Mary Wolfram Mary L. Wolfram, 84, of Pigeon passed away Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at the Scheurer Hospital Long-Term Care Unit in Pigeon. She was born in Winsor Township on Aug. 16, 1915, the daughter of the late Joseph and Marie (Binder) Hartman. On Nov. 30, 1935, she was united in marriage at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon to Joseph Paul "Joe" Wolfram, who survives her. Mrs. Wolfram was a homemaker throughout her lifetime, and also worked in the Pigeon School cafeteria for seven years and at the Ben Franklin store for 10 years. She was an active member of the Altar Society at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church where she was a member. Her survivors include her husband, Joe; a daughter, Julie A. Wolfram of Pigeon; a son, Ronald Wolfram and his wife, Carmen, of Pigeon; a son-in-law, John Fleming of Merrill; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Cecil Hartman Howk of Caro; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert; a daughter, Delores Fleming; and three brothers, Ralph Hartman, Bernard Hartman and William Frei. The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A scripture service will take place at 7 p.m. today at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, a Golden Rule Funeral Home, in Pigeon, led by Sr. Theresa Fox, O.P. Visitation is from 12:30 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the time of the prayers at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Country Bay Village or Scheurer Hospital, both in Pigeon. Edwin Yaroch Edwin Carl Yaroch, 83, of Marlette died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at Marlette Extended Care Facility in Marlette. He was born May 9, 1916 in Port Austin, the son of the late Frank and Jenny (Horetski) Yaroch. Edwin married Christine Byarski on June 30, 1948 in Port Austin. He moved to Marlette in 1953 from Bad Axe and managed the Polewach Store from 1953 to 1979. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Marlette, a Knights of Columbus member and a Marlette Chamber member. Edwin loved golfing and was very active in getting the Marlette Golf Course started. He is survived by his wife, Christine; a daughter, Mary Jane Yaroch of Saginaw; two sons Robert Yaroch and his wife, Joanne, and Ronald Yaroch and his wife, Jeanette, all of Marlette; a brother, Louis Yaroch of Port Austin; four sisters, Gertrude Krease of Bad Axe, Viola Baranski of Port Austin, Josephine Yaroch of Port Austin, Genevieve Yaroch of Port Austin; and five grandchildren, Thomas, Katherine, Douglas, Justin and Chelsea. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert and Paul; and sisters, Nellie and Florence. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church of Marlette. The Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie officiated. Burial was in Marlette Cemetery. Pallbearers were Thomas Yaroch, Mark Kozlowski, Roman Kozlowski, Edward Goretski, Mike Metzer and Brian Adamczyk.
