HURON DAILY TRIBUNE, Bad Axe, Huron County, Michigan Local Obituaries Week of November 21, 1999 Wanda Messing Wanda Messing, 85, of Sherman Township near Ruth passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, in the long-term care unit of Harbor Beach Community Hospital following a long illness. She was born Feb. 22, 1914, in St. Martin, Manitoba, Canada. She married Wilfred Messing on May 31, 1937, in Ubly. Together they farmed in Sherman Township. Wilfred preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1984. She is survived by five sons; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five sisters. She was preceded in death by one brother. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, in Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, Harbor Beach with the Rev. Edward Konieczka, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rachel Gomoluch Rachel Gomoluch of Bad Axe died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and are being handled by the MacAlpine Funeral Home. Ruth Belger Ruth A. Belger, 78, of Palms died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, in Covenant Hospital, Saginaw. She was born June 10, 1921, in Minden City, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Halifax) Schumacher. She married Christian Belger on June 8, 1940, in Custer Township. He preceded in death Jan. 24, 1992. She is survived by three sons, John Belger and his wife, Carol, of Reese, Douglas Belger and his wife, Rhonda, and Charles Belger, all of Palms; five daughters, Sharon Varosi and her husband, James, of Deckerville, Dorothy Meissner and her husband, James, of Minden City, Nancy Cleland and her husband, Richard, Christine Peresta and her husband, John, and Tarry Radatz and her husband, Franklin, all of Deckerville; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four brothers, LaVerne Schumacher of Deckerville, Jack Schumacher of Roseville, James Schumacher of Clio and Charles Schumacher of Livonia; six sisters, Mrs. Leila Haupt of Sandusky, Mrs. Jenella Cox of Wayne, Mrs. Shirley Ginther of Bad Axe, Mrs. Lois Peyrek of Bad Axe, Mrs. June Moy of Greenville and Mrs. Jean Godzinski of Westland; several nieces and nephews; and Mrs. Irma Abbott, a lifelong friend. Four brothers, Eli, George, Leonard and Norman, and one sister, Mrs. Lorraine Hipp, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, in St. Johns Lutheran Church in Palms. The Rev. Henry Malone, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery. Veronica Kubacki Veronica A. Kubacki, 84, of Kinde died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at her home. Mrs. Kubacki was born Sept. 12, 1915, in Huron County, the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Horetski) Murawaski. Veronica and Floyd were married Oct. 27, 1936, at St. Michael's Catholic Church Port Austin. He preceded her in death Sept. 3, 1996. Surviving are one son, Edward Kubacki and his wife, Catherine, of Kinde; three grandchildren, Gene Kubacki and his wife, Carol, of Kinde, Marie Murdock and her husband, Tom, of Bad Axe, Beverly Kubacki of Kinde; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Kubacki of Kinde and Matthew Murdock of Bad Axe; and one sister, Alice Vahovick. She was preceded in death by one brother, Albin Murawski, and three sisters, Elizabeth Kanaski, Helen Cichowlas and Angeline Duda. Mass of Resurrection will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Kinde. The Rev. Michael J. Bell, pastor of St. Michael's Catholic Church, will officiate. Theresa Ricketts Theresa A. Ricketts, 81, of Port Austin died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at her home. She was born on July 15, 1917 in Grindstone, the daughter of the late Angeline (Strozeski) and Jacob Navock. Theresa is survived by her husband, Relmond, of Port Austin; a stepdaughter, Pamela Mancani and her husband, Jerry, of Sterling Heights; and two grandchildren, Katie and Laura Mancani; one sister, Stella Shaddock of Port Austin; and three brothers, Richard Navock and his wife, Theresa, of Kinde, Stanley Navock and his wife, Susan, and Sylvester Navock of Grindstone. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Leo and John Ricketts; and one sister, Gertrude Cheslock. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. The Rev. Michael J. Bell will officiate. Cremains will be buried in the church cemetery. Glen Tousley Glen I. Tousley, 95, of East Tawas and formerly of Deford, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at Lakeview Manor in Tawas City. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, in Deford United Methodist Church with the Rev. Margaret Passenger officiating. Anne Treat Anne M. Treat, 92, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, in Ferdinand, Ind. The body will be cremated and a memorial service will be at a later date. Lester Fritz Lester Lyle "Les" Fritz, 79, of Owendale passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at his home. He was born on the family farm west of Linkville on Oct. 30, 1920, the son of the late Walter and Margaret (Tabar) Fritz. On Feb. 22, 1941, he was united in marriage to Donna Hahn in Bad Axe, and they celebrated their 58th anniversary this year. She survives him. Surviving are his wife, Donna; six children, Sharyn Rockefeller and her husband, John D., Janice McKellar and her husband, Garry, all of Gagetown, Lester Fritz and his wife, Mary, of Cass City, Marcia Kundinger and her husband, Dale, of Owendale, Van Fritz and his wife, Suzanne, and Lonnie Fritz and his wife, Bobbi Jo, all of Pigeon; 19 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren; a brother, Arlington Fritz of Owendale; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Ernest C. Wendt, vacancy pastor, officiating. Theresa Romzek Mrs. Theresa Frances Romzek, 72, of Rapson and formerly of Sherman Township, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at Huron Memorial Hospital in Bad Axe. She was born on Sept. 10, 1927, in Harbor Beach, the daughter of the late Michael and Josephine (Gentner) Gusa. She married Leo Romzek on Oct. 9, 1948, at St. Anthony's in Helena. He preceded her in death on March 12, 1985. She is survived by one daughter, Geraldine Rutkowski and her husband, Albert, of Ubly; nine grandchildren, Connie, Brenda, Jason, Lisa, Eric, Tammy, Danial, Kevin and Becky Rutkowski; five sisters, Anna Klee and her husband, Charles Sr., of Harbor Beach, Catherine Leblong and her husband, Tom, of Dearborn Heights, Marie Booth and her husband, Ken, of Warren, Irene Scoviac of Harbor Beach, Stella Lentz and her husband, Ed, of Rochester; two brothers, Jim Gusa and his wife, Loretta, of Harbor Beach and Andy Gusa and his wife, Pat, of Minden City; sisters-in-law, Verna Romzek of Ruth, Anna Kociba of Harbor Beach, Helen Wolschleger and her husband, Albert, of Harbor Beach and Theresa Romzek of Warren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Gusa; in-laws, Gertrude and Paul Kolar, George and Cecelia Romzek, Julia and Julius O'Bee, Agnes and Peter Pilot, Lawrence Romzek, Lucian Romzek, Peter Kociba, Louis Romzek, Jim Scoviac and Ed Konapitski. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville with the Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor, will officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Peter Van Toll Mr. Peter W. Van Toll, 89, of Ubly, died Sunday morning, Nov. 21, 1999, at Tendercare of Cass City. He was born March 2, 1910, in Little Chute, Wis., son of the late William and Anna (De Witt) Van Toll. He married Regina Van Boekel in 1935, and she preceded him in death in 1954. He then married Irma Lamers on Oct. 24, 1969, at St. John's Catholic Church in Little Chute, Wis. He is survived by his wife, Irma, of Ubly; two daughters, Helen Singer and her husband, Robert, of Alpena and Regina Bittner of Macomb County; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Schommer of Kaukauna, Wis. He was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph and Daniel Van Toll; three brothers, Frank, Bill and John Van Toll; and one sister, Lucy Kamps. The funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at St. Ignatius Church of Freiburg. The Rev. Anthony Wozniak, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. 1
