HURON DAILY TRIBUNE, Bad Axe, Michigan Local Obituaries Week of June 4, 2000 John Rolph John T. Rolph, 98, of Elkton died Thursday evening, June 8, 2000, at Sunny Acres Nursing Center, Bad Axe. He was born on April 27, 1902, at the home of his parents, the late Nelson and Phyllis (Thompson) Rolph in Chandler Township. Mr. Rolph never married and lived in the Elkton area all his life. He played a part in building some of the roads in the area in his early years. He was a residential builder and also farmed most of his life. He attended the Elkton United Methodist Church. He is survived by his sister- in-law, Rita Rolph; several nieces and nephews; and his care givers, the Barb and Bruce Krohn family. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Rolph and Bill Rolph; and four sisters, Nina Jeanette, Blanche Miller, Lula Wheeler and Ida Cummings. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Champagne Funeral Home, Elkton, with burial in the Chandler Township Cemetery. Visitation will be noon until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor's choice. Leo Forsyth Leo J. Forsyth, 72, of Harbor Beach passed away Thursday, June 8, 2000, in the Harbor Beach Community Hospital Long Term Care unit following a long illness. Karg, 83, of Harbor Beach passed away Friday, June 9, 2000, in the Harbor Beach Community Hospital following a long illness. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2000, in Zion Lutheran Church, Harbor Beach. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach. A complete obituary will appear in Sunday's Huron Daily Tribune. John Weremiuk John J. Weremiuk, 83, of Caseville died Friday morning, June 9, 2000, at Scheurer Hospital, Pigeon. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2000, at the Caseville United Methodist Church with burial in Grandlawn Cemetery, Pigeon. Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.. Saturday and 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville, and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church. A full obituary will appear in Sunday's Huron Daily Tribune. Oscar Edds Oscar F. Edds, 69, of Port Austin died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at his home. He was born on June 28, 1930, in Rose Hill, Va., son of the late Vernon and Elizabeth (Campbell) Edds. He and Dorothy (Chesney) were married on Oct. 27, 1951, in Livonia. Mr. Edds was a loving husband to Dorothy and a devoted father to his four children, David Edds and his wife, Lynda, of Allen Park, Mary Hargis of Hendersonville, Tenn., Gary Edds and his wife, Terry, of Hamburg, and Jennifer Krull and her husband, Karl, of Port Austin. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by three brothers. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2000, at Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. The Rev. Mike Goforth, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church of Caseville, will officiate. Burial will be in the Port Austin Township Cemetery. Visitation will take place 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home. Michael Samonie Michael J. Samonie, 79, of Port Austin died Monday, June 5, 2000. He was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II. He is survived by his wife, Rose; his children, Patricia Killingsworth and her husband, Gary, Patrick Samonie and his wife, Marguerite, Sharon Hill and her husband, Jaime Butler, Marilyn Kalenicki and her husband, Rob, and Carolyn Long and her husband, Wayne; 10 grand- children; 10 great- grandchildren; and two sisters, Rose Genevese and Theresa George. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2000, at St. Sharbel Catholic Church on Schoenherr between 13 Mile and Masonic. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery. A rosary will take place at 7 p.m. Friday at Wujek-Calcaterra and Sons, Inc., Funeral Home, 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile), in Sterling Heights. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today and 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. He will lie in state from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Clayton Rogers Clayton James Rogers, 17, of Bad Axe passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at his home. He was born on July 27, 1982, in Bad Axe, son of Gerald T. and Patricia (Waling) Rogers. Clayton would have been a senior this fall at Bad Axe High School. He was an avid hockey player and was an all-star defenseman as a member of the Bad Axe Blades hockey team. He received an academic award all three of his years at Bad Axe High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and rollerblading, as well as spending time in the woods at his uncle's home in the Oscoda area. He is survived by his parents, Gerald and Patricia Rogers of Bad Axe; a brother, Jason Rogers of Bad Axe; his maternal grand- parents, Victor and Lorraine Waling of Livonia; aunts and uncles, Eugene and Janet Snycerski of Livonia, Donald and Donna Rogers of Davisburg, Kathy and Jack Fein of Garden City, V. Keith and Michelle Waling of Howell, Karen and Jeff Long of Canton, and John Waling of Livonia; and several cousins. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2000, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Kinde. Officiating will be Fr. John Killop. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A parish scripture service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Earl McKee Earl Robert McKee, 69, of Cass City died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center Cooper in Saginaw. He was born April 17, 1931, in Owendale, son of the late Earl and Ethel (Finkbeiner) McKee. He and Elsie John Hibberd were married June 27, 1957. Elsie preceded him in death on Dec. 10, 1999. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. Earl worked in maintenance for the phone company for many years. In 1969, he moved from Roseville to Cass City. He enjoyed playing euchre, pinochle and poker. Earl also loved working with small engines, going to garage sales, traveling and attending fish fries. He is survived by three sons, Terry McKee and his wife, Doreen, of Cass City, Larry McKee and his wife, Debbie, of Fort Meyers, Fla., and Roger McKee and his wife, Vicki, of Cass City; one sister, Charlotte Car of Gagetown; one brother, Mac McKee and his wife, Bonnie, of Gagetown; seven grandchildren; one great- grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2000, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Burial will take place in St. Columbkille Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family. Alvin Woolner Alvin Earl Woolner, 94, of Port Hope died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at the Harbor Beach Hospital Long Term Care Unit following a brief illness. He was born Oct. 18, 1905, in Colfax Township, son of the late Isaac and Martha (Nichols) Woolner. He and Jeanette McCachen were married on Feb. 6, 1926, in Detroit. She preceded him in death on June 4, 1979. He then married Lorraine Glasgow on Oct. 4, 1980, in Bad Axe. Alvin was a member of and enjoyed attending the Bad Axe Church of the Nazarene. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida, working and visiting with family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine, of Port Hope; one daughter, Kathryn McTaggart and her husband, Harold, of Port Hope; two sons, Bernard Woolner and his wife, Donna, of Capac, and James Woolner of Pontiac; 35 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three stepdaughters, Sara Wilson, Marie Isbister, both of Bad Axe, and Mary Jane Brown of Kentucky; two stepsons, William Bardell and Samuel Glasgow, both of Bad Axe; and a half-sister, Lillian Stafford of Ventura, Calif. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sara; an infant son, Clarence; three sons, Kenneth, Alvin, Jr., and Francis Woolner; five brothers, Frank, Roy, Robert, Milton and William Woolner; and two sisters, Jessie Smith and Ethel Livingston. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2000, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home Gage Chapel in Kinde. Pastor Gordon Grossman, pastor of the Bad Axe Church of the Nazarene, will officiate. Burial will take place at the New River Cemetery. Bettie Tageson Bettie L. Tageson, 74, of Harbor Beach passed away Sunday, June 4, 2000, at her home following a short illness. She was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Olean, N.Y., to Gertrude Schott and the late Lawrence Schott. Bettie and Robert Tageson were married April 24, 1948. Robert passed away on Jan. 14, 1991. Bettie was a member of the Harbor Beach Lioness Club. She is survived by her mother, Gertrude Schott of Pennsylvania; three nephews, Lawrence Schott and his wife, Elsie, of Clifford, Robert Schott and his wife, Judy, of Marlette and William Schott and his wife, Sue, of Sandusky; other nieces and nephews, Susan and Joe Mytko, Joshua Mytko, Thomas and Jenny Tageson, Terry and Bev Tageson, William and Betty Tageson, Steve and Linda Tageson, Christine and Bill Woodward, Kim and Don Siemen, Dean and Karen Mitchell, Tami and Tony Yurgaites, and Sue and Fred Kloephler; an aunt, Annabell Gainor; and her dog, Boots. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 8, 2000, in the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach with the Rev. Theresa Cutler officiating. Burial was in Rock Falls Cemetery in Harbor Beach. Andrew Szidik Andrew J. Szidik, 90, of Owendale passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at Huron Memorial Hospital, Bad Axe, following a brief illness. He was born in Detroit on Oct. 24, 1909, the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Balaz) Szidik. On Aug. 30, 1941, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth I. Molnar in Gagetown. She survives him. Mr. Szidik was a dairy farmer who began his farming career in 1941. He also worked with the Michigan State Cooperative Extension Services for five years, at Pigeon Manufacturing for 10 years, and with Michigan Sugar Co. for 10 years, retiring in the early 1970s. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and was a past president, and he was active with the Michigan Artificial Breeders Association. He also was a past president of the Owendale PTA. Mr. Szidik's favorite hobby was his CB radio, which he enjoyed immensely. He was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church in Gagetown, where as a young man he helped build the bell tower. His survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; a daughter, Janet Baxter and her husband, Bruce, of Livingston, Texas; a son, James Szidik and his wife, Judy, of Troy; a daughter-in-law, Cheree Szidik of Caro; nine grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; three nieces; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by a son, Edward; and a brother, Joseph. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2000, at St. Agatha Catholic Church, Gagetown, with Fr. Paul Balla officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A scripture wake service will take place at 7 p.m. Friday at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon, with Sr. Joan Maher officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Raymond Woycehoski Raymond Woycehoski, 78, of Harbor Beach passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. He was born Aug. 26, 1921, in Harbor Beach to the late Henry and Mary (Nowiski) Woycehoski. Raymond and Alma Siemen were married on May 16, 1942, in Harbor Beach. Raymond retired from Hercules, Inc., in Harbor Beach in 1982 after 43 years of service. He was a veteran of the 94th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a medic who received the Purple Heart, European Theater, Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct and Combat Medical Badge. He was a member of the Harbor Beach VFW Post No. 9344 and a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening and playing cards, and he was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by all. Ray is survived by his wife, Alma (Siemen) Woycehoski; five children, Diana Cook and her husband, Ronald, of Davison, Wayne Woycehoski and his wife, Bonnie (Pleiness) of Clio, Bryan Woycehoski and his wife, Kathy (Essenmacher) of Clio, Terry Woycehoski and his wife, Mary (Kramer) of Clio, and Jeffrey Woycehoski and his wife, Leslie (Hanson) of Harbor Beach; 16 grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; and a sister, Eleanor Brown and her husband, Nap, of Harbor Beach. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Peter, Leonard and Frank Woycehoski; and a sister, Bertha Feets. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2000, at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, Harbor Beach, with the Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. A vigil service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Friday and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Freda Kastraba Mrs. Freda R. Kastraba, 76, of Gagetown passed away Friday morning, June 2, 2000, at Bay Medical Center. She was born in Gagetown on April 7, 1924, the daughter of Carl and Mary Reher Stark. On May 10, 1947, she married George Kastraba. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Kastraba was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Gagetown. Surviving are a son, Gary G. Kastraba and his wife, Sheila, of Southgate; daughters, Nancy Howey of Gagetown, Susan Bursick and her husband, Brian, of Sebewaing and Diane Howey and her husband, Joseph, of Gagetown; 20 grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren; brothers, Herbert Stark of Pigeon, William Stark and his wife, Betty, of St. Clair Shores and Arthur Stark and his wife, Jean, of Hastings, Neb.; sisters, Alma Boitos of Cass City, Martha Schenk and her husband, Paul, of Filion, Lillian Irion of Frankenmuth and Betty Stark of Sebewaing. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Edward Stark. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2000, at the Church of the Nazarene in Gagetown with the Rev. Donald Ault officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery in Bach. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the Gagetown Funeral Chapel and Mrs. Kastraba will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to Thumb Area Dialysis. Edward Schnepp Edward G. Schnepp, 85, of Owendale died Friday morning, June 2, 2000, at Bay Medical Center in Bay City following a five-month illness. He was born July 15, 1914, in Brookfield Township, son of the late William and Rosa (Milas) Schnepp. He was united in marriage to Florine R. Caswell on Jan. 18, 1941, in Flint. She preceded him in death on Dec. 16, 1992. Ed had been a farmer in the Owendale area for many years and also had been Postmaster in Owendale. He had served in the U.S. Army on many South Pacific islands in Army hospitals for three years during World War II. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bach. He also was a member of the Owendale Lions Club and had been a Boy Scout troop leader for several years. Surviving are one sister, Frieda Ann Evans of Essexville; two nephews, James Schnepp of Farwell and Timothy E. Schnepp of Kokomo, Ind.; three nieces, Carol Ann Livingston and her husband, Kenneth, of Elk Rapids, Susan Coffey and her husband, Daniel, of Germantown, Tenn., and Mary Ellen Albrecht and her husband, Philip, of North Muskegon; many great-nieces and great- nephews; one great-great-nephew, Zachary William Livingston; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Schnepp of Flint. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred and Erwin Schnepp; and one sister, Elva Schnepp. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2000, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bach. The Rev. Ernest C. Wendt will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon today at Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing and from 1 p.m. until the time of services at the church. Augusta Harder Augusta Harder, 98, of Bay Port passed away Friday, June 2, 2000, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. She was born in Germany on Aug. 22, 1901, the daughter of the late George and Elsie (Schlitzkus) Matchuret. On March 15, 1920, she was united in marriage by the Rev. Andrus to Archie J. Harder in Pigeon. He preceded her in death in Jan. 1970. Mr. and Mrs. Harder made their home in Bay Port, where they have given active ministry in their church, the Bay Port Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (RLDS). Mrs. Harder was a homemaker throughout her lifetime and enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She is survived by four children, Margaret J. Johnson of Saginaw, Ralph Harder and his wife, Pat, of Bay Port, Alice Voss of Caro and James Harder of Gaylord; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Adam; a sister, Mary Maday; and two brothers, Fred and Herman Matchuret. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2000, at the Bay Port RLDS Church with Elder Ervin Haley and Elder Terry Brown officiating. Burial will be in New Bay Port Cemetery, Fairhaven Township. Visitation will be today from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, a Golden Rule Funeral Home, in Pigeon and from 12 until the time of the service on Monday at the church. Edna Seltz Edna L. Seltz, 88, of Sherman Township near Ruth, passed away Friday, June 2, 2000, in the Harbor Beach Community Hospital Long Term Care Facility following a long illness. Born in Port Hope on Oct. 30, 1911, she is the daughter of the late Otto and Agnes (Krueger) Lange. She and Theodore Seltz were married on Nov. 2, 1929, in Port Hope. He preceded her in death on June 30, 1973. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Harbor Beach and enjoyed quilting and helping others as a care giver. Edna is survived by two sons, Lavern Seltz of Harbor Beach and Carl Seltz and his wife, Joann, of Harbor Beach; eight grandchildren, Tammy Seltz, Crystall Koss and her husband, Brian, Holly Cooper and her husband, Duane, Kerri Seltz, Russ Seltz and his wife, Mary Jo, Michael Seltz, Kevin Seltz and Kimberly Seltz; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Beverly Seltz, and a sister, Gladys Finkel. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2000, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Harbor Beach with the Rev. Mark Girardin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Falls Cemetery. Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach handled arrangements. Iva Profit Iva C. Profit, 95, of Saginaw and formerly of Cass City, died peacefully Thursday, June 1, 2000, in Saginaw Geriatrics Home. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City, with Dr. Philip Rice of Cass City United Methodist Church officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Cass City United Methodist Church or Hills and Dales General Hospital. 1
