Macker, 51, of Minden City and formerly of Allenton, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 9, 2000, at his residence. He was born June 8, 1948, in Detroit, son of William and Marie (Warchuck) Macker. He married Patricia Wajca on June 11, 1976, in Detroit at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Osborne High School in 1966. He was employed at National Twist Drill in Rochester for a few years. He was in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970 and served in Germany. He was a graduate of the Detroit Police Academy in 1971 and served in the 15th and 11th Precincts for 15 years. He was a former member of the Berville Lions Club and a former member of the Knights of Columbus St. Patrick's Council of Detroit. He is survived by three daughters, Jaclynn Macker of Lansing, Sherilynn Clos and her husband, Peter, of Ft. Hood, Texas and Kathlynn Macker of Ypsilanti; one granddaughter, Kayla Clos of Ft. Hood, Texas; his parents, William and Marie Macker of Memphis; five brothers, Ronald Macker and his wife, Gloria, of Minden City, Gary Macker and his wife, Sharron, of Brown City, William Macker and his wife, Ruth, of North Street, Mark Macker and his wife, Michelle, of Harbor Beach and Matthew Macker of Memphis; two sisters, Cheryl Savage and her husband, Michael, of Berville and Susan Macker and her life partner, Donna DuBlank, of China Township; and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville. The Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Military honors will be provided. There will be a rosary by the Rev. Fr. Charles Hammond at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Smigielski Funeral Home in Minden City. Visitation is 4 to 9:30 p.m. tonight and from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday at the funeral home. Constance Mazure Mrs. Constance A. Mazure, 84, of Ubly died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at Huron Memorial Hospital in Bad Axe. She was born May 9, 1915, in Tyre, daughter of the late Peter and Frances (Grimski) Zurek. She married Matthew Mazure on Oct. 13, 1934, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. She was a graduate of Tyre Country School. She was a bartender at Verona and Ubly Taverns for many years. She was a salesperson for Glass Ben Franklin and Glass Fashions for 25 years. She worked at Mazure Orchards for many years. She was a parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville, a life member of St. Mary Rosary Sodality, a life member of the Daughters of Isabella Fidelis Regina Circle No. 608 of Bad Axe, a member of the Parisville Senior Citizens and a Eucharistic minister at St. Mary for many years. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery, gardening and tending her flower garden, cooking and family visiting. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Elmer Zurek; and one sister, Martha Zurek. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. The Rev. Stanley Surman will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery in Ubly. There will be a rosary by the St. Mary Rosary Sodality at 7 p.m. and a rosary by the Daughters of Isabella at 8:30 p.m., both tonight at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Visitation is 1:30 to 9:30 p.m. today and from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Cora Garascia Cora B. Garascia, 68, of Caseville died Sunday morning, Feb. 6, 2000, at Bay Medical Center following a brief illness. Cora was born to the late Robert and Cora (Hughes) Mattice on April 7, 1932, in Bad Axe and moved to the Detroit area in the early 1950s. There she met and married Paul J. Garascia on Aug. 1, 1953. They moved back to Huron County in 1976, settling in Lake Township. He preceded her in death March 15, 1992. She was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church and the Caseville Eagles Auxiliary. Surviving are two son, Michael Garascia of Lake Orion and Joe Garascia of Caseville; her daughter, Lisa Middaugh and her husband, Mark, of Oscoda; three grandchildren, Mandy, Brittany and Sarah; two brothers, Lloyd Mattice and Clayton Mattice and his wife, Irene, all of Bad Axe; and her sister, Mae Landenberg of Bad Axe. A funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville, with burial in the church cemetery. An Eagle Auxiliary service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Gertrude Montgomery Gertrude M. Montgomery, 65, of Anaheim, Calif., formerly of Harbor Beach, passed away Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in the Anaheim Health Care Center following a short illness. She was born Feb. 17, 1935, in Imlay City to the late Roy and Margaret (Rauh) Hamilton. She was a former employee of Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Gertrude is survived by three sons, Lee McMullen of Texas, Dane McMullen and Dale McMullen, both of Kentucky; and one sister, Virginia Bell of Almont. In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated in California and her ashes spread at sea. Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach, a Golden Rule Funeral Home, is handling arrangements. Florence Rogers Florence Edna Rogers, 82, of Pigeon passed away Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. She was born on Feb. 3,1918, in Winsor Township, the daughter of the late William and Barbara (Wing) Limberger. As a child, she attended the Winsor School. On Oct. 30, 1957, she was united in marriage to Austin Rogers in Barton City. He survives her. Mrs. Rogers worked for a Detroit-area insurance agency until her retirement in the mid- 1960s. She was a homemaker, enjoying home baking, canning and cooking. She attended the Salem United Methodist Church in Pigeon. Her survivors include her husband, Austin; a sister-in- law, Donna Limberger of Pigeon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Roland, Richard and Ralph Limberger. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon, with the Rev. Calvin Long, pastor of Salem United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Grand Lawn Cemetery, Winsor Township. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and from 9 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Martha Thompson Martha Marie Thompson, 84, of Minden City died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Autumnwood of Deckerville after a six-month-long illness. She was born Sept. 20, 1915, in Palms, the daughter of the late David and Anna (Warczinsky) Kerbyson. She was a graduate of Snay Country School. She farmed for many years in Delaware Township before going to work at Mid-West Rubber of Deckerville for 22 years. She was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church of Palms and worked on many committees. She was a member of the Ladies Aide. She enjoyed bowling for many years in the Minden City Ladies Bowling League. She enjoyed quilting and needlework, canning, gardening, flowers, jigsaw puzzles and family visiting. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Jennie Kaufman of Commerce Township, Mrs. Marlene Peruski of Waterford, Mrs. Nancy Roth and her husband, Robert, of North Street, Mrs. Linda Griffin and her husband, William, of Chandler, Ariz.; two sons, Marvin Thompson and his fiancee, Susan DooLittle, of Tucson, Ariz., Richard Thompson and his wife, Nancy, of Holly; 16 grandchildren, Wanda Peruski of Waterford, Duane Peruski and his wife, Cathy, of Davisburg, Paula Lowes and her husband, Jeffery, of Euless, Texas, Wayne Peruski and his wife, Monica, of Commerce Township, Karen Kaufman of Commerce Township, James Kaufman of White Lake, Sandra Krus and her husband, Brian, of West Bloomfield, Thomas Kaufman and his wife, Kelie, of Waterford, Nicole Roth and R. Jim Y. Chow, M.D. Jim Y. Chow, M.D., 57, of Bad Axe, well-known area surgeon, passed away on Saturday evening, Feb. 5, 2000, at his home following an extended illness. He was born on July 2, 1942, in Taiwan, son of Ping Huang Chow and the late Ye Orr Lin Chow. He married Janet Daubenmeyer on Aug. 18, 1972, in Royal Oak. Dr. Chow operated his medical practice for several years in Bad Axe and was a renowned surgeon in the Thumb area, operating for many years at the Deckerville Community Hospital and Huron Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Michigan State Medical Society and Verona Hills Golf Club. He is survived by his wife, Janet Chow of Bad Axe; one son, Timothy Y. Chow of Philadelphia, Pa.; one daughter, Krista L. Chow of Troy; his father, Ping Huang Chow of Taiwan; two brothers, Leo Jou and his wife, Lavonne, and Bill Chow of California; and three sisters, Sharon Chen and her husband, Ron- Chi, of Taiwan, Shirley Yu and her husband, Ching-Nan, of Taiwan, and Tina Wu and her husband, Jack, of Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ye Orr Lin Chow; and his mother-in-law, Emma Fay (Stone) Daubenmeyer. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Officiating will be the Rev. Hung-I Shih of Houston, Texas, and Nicholas Nahernak, D.D.S. of Cass City. The eulogy will be given by Timothy Y. Chow. Memorials may be made to the Huron Memorial Hospice or to Huron Memorial Hospital. Willard "Doc" Haist Willard P. "Doc" Haist, D.D.S., 85, of Pigeon passed away Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility, Bad Axe, following a long illness. He was born in Pigeon on Aug. 12, 1914, the son of the late Mose and Laura (Geiger) Haist. Following his graduation from Pigeon High School in 1932, he attended Michigan Agriculture College until 1934, then attended and graduated from the University of Michigan Dental School in 1937. On June 27, 1937, he was united in marriage to Leah Maxwell at the Evangelical Church of Pigeon (now Salem United Methodist Church). She preceded him in death on June 19, 1998. Dr. and Mrs. Haist were married for more than 60 years. He opened his dental practice in Pigeon in June 1939, and in 1942 he began service with the U.S. Army Dental Corps at Fort Knox, Ky. He returned to his Pigeon dental practice in 1945, where he remained until his retirement in 1982. Dr. Haist was a former member of the Pigeon Lions Club and a current member of the Pigeon Rotary Club, where he was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow in 1987. He was a former member of the Pigeon Men's Community Chorus, a member of the Gideons and a life member of the Michigan Dental Association. He was a faithful, active member of Salem United Methodist Willard "Doc" Haist (continued) Church in Pigeon. His survivors include his daughter, Lois Dewald and her husband, Samuel, of Auburn; two sons, Robert Haist and his wife, Sue, of Downington, Pa., and Donald Haist and his wife, Becki, of Greenville; seven grandchildren and spouses, Becki Wieland and her husband, Kent, Steven Dewald and his wife, Stacey, Teri Blackburn and her husband, Joseph, Tisa Newhouse and her husband, Nathan, Tricia Haist, Timothy Haist and his fiancee, Jessica Ingles, and Mark Haist; and four great-grandchildren, Hans Wieland, Nicholas Wieland, Lea Ashley Blackburn and David Dewald. LaFrance, 86, of Caseville Township passed away Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born in Sault Ste. Marie on Aug. 7, 1913, the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Fabes) Lukasiak. After graduating from Western High School in Detroit, she attended Wayne State University for a year. Prior to her marriage to Robert M. LaFrance in 1942, she worked at the Wayne County Institute. Following Mr. LaFrance's death in 1965, Mrs. LaFrance worked as an accounting clerk for Allied Supermarket until she retired in 1977. Her pastimes included painting, crocheting, sewing and reading. She was a former member of St. Valentine Catholic Church and its Altar Society in Redford Township and was most recently a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon. Mrs. LaFrance is survived by her children, Robert M. LaFrance and his wife, Margaret, of South Lyon and Joyce A. Wilson of Caseville; three grandchildren, Robert LaFrance, Marcia LaFrance and Phillip Wilson; two sisters, Cecilia Milnar of Pennsylvania and Gertrude Wizgird of Saline; a brother, Andrew Lukasiak and his wife, Helen, of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Theodore and John. The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon with the Rev. Fr. George Serour officiating. Burial will be on Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield. There will be a scripture service at 7 p.m. Friday at the Meyersieck- Bussema Funeral Home in Pigeon, with Sr. Theresa Fox, O.P., parish administrator, officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Robert Loeffler Robert E. Loeffler, 74, of Sebewaing died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon following a two-and-a-half-year illness. He was born July 16, 1925, in Sebewaing, son of the late George and Clara (Zamke) Loeffler. Bob had been employed by the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad for 42 years before retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing and the American Legion Sebewaing Post No. 293. He served in the U.S. Robert Loeffler (continued) Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a Sebewaing fireman and ambulance attendant for several years. He loved bowling and softball. Surviving are two sisters, Alice Bauer and her husband, Frank, and Virginia Hoagg, all of Sebewaing; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Loeffler, in 1972. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. The Rev. Charles Kuhl will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing, and he will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or United Hospice Service of Marlette. Loretta McLellan Loretta E. McLellan, 86, of Bad Axe passed away Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility after a long illness. She was born Aug. 26, 1913, in Elkton to Daniel and Elizabeth (McCormick) McGee. On June 11, 1947, she was united in marriage to Matthew McLellan at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. He preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1964. She was employed at Polewach Stored as well as Kritzmans in Bad Axe for many years. She enjoyed her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and sharing her sense of humor with them. She is survived by one son, John McLellan and his wife, Toni, of Hartford; three daughters, Mary Beth Nimtz and her husband, Ron, of Elkton, Peggy McLellan of Bay City and Christine McLellan of Sister Lakes; six grandchildren, Matt McLellan and his wife, Melissa, Kevin McLellan and Kate McLellan all of Kalamazoo, Gregory Nimtz of New Baltimore, Erin Nimtz of Adrian and Jeffrey Nimtz of Elkton; one sister, Mrs. Madalyn Krohn of Elkton; four sisters-in-law, Anne Slomka of South Lyon, Florence Gmyrek of East Pointe, Isabel Clancy of Lapeer and Ann McLellan of Pigeon. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Anabel Louks, Margaret Light and Winnie Dowde; and four brothers, Martin, James, Frank and Vincent McGee. A scripture service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Deward Weber Deward Weber, 77, of Kinde died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. He was born Sept. 30, 1922, in Lincoln Township to the late Walter and Lucy (Jaworski) Weber. He was united in marriage to Edith Reiche on Nov. 6, 1943. He was a lifelong resident of Lincoln Township, and a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Kinde. He was a member of the Port Hope and Grindstone Sportsman's Club and was township constable. Deward Weber (continued) He was employed at the Fairmont and Nestles Milk Plant, Hamill Manufacturing and was a bartender for more than 20 years. He managed Stafford Park for five years and was a farmer. He enjoyed playing euchre and visiting with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Edith; four sons, Kenneth Weber and his wife, Sharon, of Kinde, Dennis Weber and his wife, Patricia, of Filion, Larry Weber and his wife, Anne, of Filion and Duane Weber and his wife, Pamela, of Port Austin; 10 grandchildren, Jodi Kennedy and her husband, Dan, of Troy, Amy Weber of Birmingham, Sheri Weber of Philadelphia, Paul Weber of Rochester, Kristin Weber of East Lansing, Carrie Weber of Filion, Jason Weber of Filion, Sarah Weber of California, April Champagne of Port Austin and Kirsten Champagne of Port Austin; and one great-grandson, Zachary Kennedy. Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church and altar cross fund. Yvonne Fulcher Yvonne J. Fulcher, 70, of Cass City died Friday afternoon, Feb. 4, 2000, at Hills & Dales General Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton. Burial will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Carl Gross Carl Andrew Gross, 87, of Chandler Township near Pinnebog died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at Huron Memorial Hospital, Bad Axe. He was born Oct. 24, 1912, in Buena Vista, Pa., and moved to Chicago shortly thereafter. At age 9, he came to Huron County with his parents, the late Andrew and Sarah (Tontch) Gross. The family settled on a farm just west of Gotts Corner in Lake Township. Carl graduated from Rock City School on State Park Road. A few years later he and Evelyn Champagne were united in marriage at St. Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog. Carl worked as a brick and block layer with Booms Construction for many years and then at Caseville Lumber for 20 years, retiring in 1973. After that he farmed in Chandler Township until his health would not permit it. He was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn; eight sons, Carl Gross and his wife, Ann, of Middlebarton, England, John Gross of Cloverdale, Calif., Larry Gross and his wife, Sallie, of Tampa, Fla., Robert Gross and his wife, Patricia, of Maryville, Mo., Ronald Gross and his wife, Patti, of White Rock, Dennis Gross and his wife, Yvonne, of Hytesburg, England, Willard Gross of Caseville and Allen Gross and his wife, Sharon, of Caseville; a daughter, Rose Marie Creuger of Waterford, Conn.; 34 grandchildren; and 12 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Walter; a daughter, Diane Krabbe; a granddaughter, Heather Gross; and two sisters, Gladys Foster and Rose Gross. A funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at St. Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog, with burial in the church cemetery. There will Carl Gross (continued) be a parish scripture service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton.
