Finkel, 67, of Port Hope passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at his home following an apparent heart attack. He was born on June 24, 1933, in Port Hope, son of the late Floyd and Lydia (Schmaltz) Finkel. He and Virginia Koglin were married on Nov. 21, 1953, in St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope. Norman was a lifelong Huron Township farmer and loved the out-of-doors as he enjoyed hunting, and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Norman was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope and served on various boards of the church. He was a choir member and was currently president of the Aid Association to Lutherans. He was a member of the Huron Township Zoning Board and a former member of the Harbor Beach Area Community Easter Choir. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Finkel of Port Hope; his children, Larry Finkel of Port Hope, Kathy Leneway and her husband, Ken, of Marysville, and Raymond Finkel and his wife, Jane, of Fort Gratiot; grandchildren Travis and Kacie Leneway of Marysville and Joseph and Amy Finkel of Fort Gratiot; two sisters, Dorothy Anderson of Detroit and Esther Lobur and her husband, Terry, of Seven Hills, Ohio; a brother, Don Finkel and his wife, Linda, of Macomb; and by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, in St. John Lutheran Church, Port Hope, with the Rev. Henry Malone and the Rev. Albert Bahr officiating. Burial will be in the Port Hope Cemetery. A scripture service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. this evening and from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, and from 1:30 until the time of services Sunday at the church. Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church. George Frederick Mr. George Frederick, 87, of Florida and formerly of Rapson, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at Marwood Manor Nursing Home of Port Huron. He was born May 14, 1913, in Gagetown, son of the late Peter and Anna (Rauch) Frederick. He married Ann E. Miller on Jan. 15, 1938, at St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville. She preceded him in death on May 8, 2000. He attended the Cass City Country School. He lived and farmed in Cass City, then moved to Pontiac and worked for General Motors. In 1943, he moved to Rapson and farmed until 1973. He then moved to Florida and resided there for 27 years. He enjoyed building different objects and remodeled homes. He is survived by his children, Janet Bischer and her husband, Melvin, of Ruth, John Frederick and his wife, Tina, of Garden, Doris Frederick of Ubly and Ann Dudas and her husband, Donald, of Port Huron; seven grandchildren, Philip Bischer, Pauline Geiger and her husband, Brad, Dr. Nancy Krohn and her husband, Scott, Brenda Frederick, Jessica Dudas, Theresa Dudas and Michael Dudas; seven great-grandchildren, Nicole Geiger, Stephanie Geiger, Jaclyn Geiger, Shelby Krohn, Ethan Krohn, Sara Beth Frederick and Jonathan Frederick. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Veronica Ann Frederick; two grandchildren, Melvin Joseph and Phyllis Maria Bischer; four brothers, Joseph, Anthony, Michael and Peter Frederick; and two sisters, Helen Mulrath and Ann Vanier. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Ruth. The Rev. Steve Gavit, pastor, will officiate. Visitation will be 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. today and from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Grover Laurie Mr. Grover J. Laurie, 88, of Cass City passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 12, 2000, at his residence in Cass City. He was born in Bad Axe on March 30, 1912, the son of Wallace and Marion Gill Laurie. On March 16, 1938, he married Gladys Rose in Elkton. She preceded him in death on May 12, 1993. They thoroughly enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Mr. Laurie was a prominent dairy farmer all of his lifetime, and he was a member of Gagetown United Methodist Church, he was a third-degree Master Mason and life member of Tyler Lodge No. 317, Cass City. He was Elmwood Township supervisor for many years, Tuscola County Road Commissioner for 36 years, and served on the Michigan Milk Producers Advisory Board. Surviving are a son, Jack Laurie and his wife, Betty, of Cass City; grandchildren Doug Laurie and his wife, Tammy, of Cass City, Dana Bennett and her husband, Garald, of Gagetown, and David Laurie and his wife, Stephanie, of Cass City; great-grandchildren, Guthry and Evan Laurie, Jonathan, Rebecca and Lauren Bennett, and Maegan and Whitney Laurie; a brother, Tom Laurie and his wife, Millie, of Cass City; and a sister, Janet Martin and her husband, Don, of Gagetown. He was preceded in death by a sister, Christina Yates. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Gagetown United Methodist Church with the Rev. Alice Sheffield officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Gagetown Funeral Home in Gagetown, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to Gagetown United Methodist Church or the Michigan FFA Foundation. Leland Beyette Leland (Lee) C. Beyette, 80, of Cass City passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, Oct. 11, 2000, at Tendercare Cass City following a lingering illness. Lee was born May 2, 1920, in Caro, the son of the late Timothy and Muriel (Kline) Beyette. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force as an MP during World War II. After the war, he worked in the auto plants and later for Duggon Brothers Construction Co. in Jackson. He came back to Tuscola County and Cass City in the early 1970s and worked at the Pillsbury Co-op Elevator in Cass City for some years as well as on his Voss Road farm. He married Carol A. Ferguson on Dec. 31, 1982, in Caro. She survives him. Surviving besides his wife are five daughters, five sons and their spouses: Dolores Kastraba and her husband, Alex, of Caro, Evelyn Lalko and her husband, Paul, of Kingston, Gina Flikke and her husband, Jeff, and Charlene Troy and her husband, Mark, all living in Kansas, Collette Flowers and her husband, Mike, of Deford, Timothy Beyette of Michigan, Roger Beyette of Flint, Jesse Beyette of Birch Run, Leland Beyette, Jr., and Jamie Beyette, both living in Deford; 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Gertrude B. Hack, who died on Jan. 15, 1988. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at the Indianfields Township Cemetery Chapel in Caro with the Rev. Ronald C. Wigand of the Caro First Baptist Church officiating. Ransford Funeral Home of Caro handled arrangements. Manley Fay Manley L. Fay, 71, of Waterford died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000. Mr. Fay retired from Michigan public schools in the Thumb area where he worked as a band instructor, high school principal and superintendent. He was a graduate of Alma College and received an EDS in education from Central Michigan University. He is survived by a daughter, Ann Fay of Waterford; a sister, Charlotte Fay LaPeer of Cass City; and a brother, Stanley Fay and his wife, Beverly, of Clarkston. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; a sister, Marjorie Fay Pearce; a brother, Gerald Fay; and a brother-in-law, Gaylord LaPeer. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Four Towns United Methodist Church in Waterford with the Rev. Sharon Niefert and the Rev. Wayne Hawley officiating. Memorials may be made to Mended Hearts (www.legacy.com). Deloris Dobias Deloris Ann Dobias, 69, of Suttons Bay died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at her home. Born Dec. 5, 1930, in Detroit, she was the daughter of Edward and Lavina Forbes. On June 23, 1951, she married Frank Louis Dobias in East Detroit. He survives her. A homemaker and a professional bookkeeper, Deloris enjoyed quilting and cross-country motorcycling. She and her husband were members of the Re Treads Motorcycle Club. She is survived by her husband, Frank; three children, Dawn Russell, Debora Dobias and David Dobias; a sister, Helen Kirk; and five grandchildren, Nick Russell, Mike Russell, Krysten Dobias, Justin Dobias and Anna Dobias. Funeral services took place Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at Immaculate Conception Church in Traverse City with the Rev. Paul Megge officiating. Burial was in Acacia Park Cemetery in Beverly Hills. Curtis Iseler Mr. Curtis Rodney Iseler, 47, of Tuscon, Ariz., and a former resident of Bad Axe, died unexpectedly Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at NorthWest Hospital in Tucson. Curtis was born Jan. 5, 1953, in Bad Axe, son of Edward C. and Elinor M. (Elliott) Iseler. He was a 1971 graduate of Bad Axe High School and a magna cum laude graduate of Saginaw Valley State University with a degree in accounting and finance. He resided in Atlanta for eight years prior to moving to Tucson, where he lived for the past two years. Surviving are his father and mother, Edward and Elinor Iseler of Bad Axe; four sisters, Shirley Wydra and her husband, Joseph, of Frankenmuth, Linda Longuski and her husband, Jerome, of Bad Axe, Beverly Greyerbiehl and her husband, Michael, of Bad Axe, and Darlene Moore and her husband, Keith, of Freeland; one brother, Gene Iseler and his wife, Sandra, of Bad Axe; his longtime friend, Jim; 19 nieces and nephews; and 21 great-nieces and great- nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church at M-53 and Ubly corners with Fr. Thomas J. Fleming officiating. Cremation will follow at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. A wake scripture service will be offered at 8 p.m. Thursday at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or the charity of the donor's choice. John Remsing John D. Remsing, 47, of Bad Axe died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at his home. He was born Sept. 8, 1953, in the car in Utica to George and Martha (Forstner) Remsing. John enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. He was a member of the "Old Country" band. He also enjoyed watching and playing sports. John loved spending time with his grand- children and often went to a coffee club at the local McDonald's. He was a member of Victory in Christ Church in Bad Axe. John is survived by his wife, Rebecca; children Jennifer Smith and her husband, Darren, of Owendale and James Remsing and his wife, Angie, of Charlotte; grandchildren Jasmine, Alysha and Christian Smith of Owendale; brothers and sisters George Remsing and his wife, Cora, of Cass City, Thomas Remsing and his wife, Lorraine, of Caro, Helen Keyser of Snover, Frank Remsing and his wife, Diane, of Pigeon, Margaret Cooley and her husband, Charles, of Allegan, Joseph Remsing and his wife, Lois, of Cass City, Lena Lee and her husband, Arlon, of Floodwood, Minn., and Mary Smith and her husband, Albert, of Tulsa, Okla.; many nieces and nephews; and his father-in-law, Lawrence Holik of Cass City. He was preceded in death by his father, George Remsing; and a twin brother, James Remsing. Memorials may be given to the Family Discretionary Fund. Connie Krupa Connie F. Krupa, 37, of Sebewaing died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, in Saginaw. She was born Nov. 14, 1962, in Bay City, daughter of Robert L. and Patricia J. (Hines) Buehler. She was married to Ronald Krupa in Belleville. He preceded her in death in 1989. Surviving are her daughter, Amanda, at home; her mother and stepfather, Patricia J. and James Story of Sebewaing; her father and stepmother, Robert L. and Judy Buehler of Granite City, Ill.; one sister, Lisa Turner and her husband, Joe, of Sebewaing; her grandmother, Shirley Hines of Sebewaing; and aunts, uncles, nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Buehler in 1993. Cremation has taken place at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Sebewaing. The Rev. Ray McGee will officiate with inurnment to follow in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the church. Beck, 100, of Bad Axe died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Sunny Acres Nursing Center, Bad Axe. Clara was born Dec. 16, 1899, in Chandler Township at the home of her parents, the late John and Jane (Alexander) Drummond. On Oct. 7, 1937, she was united in marriage to Wilson A. Beck in Pigeon. He preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 1979. She and her husband made their home in Caseville Township after their marriage until his death. In 1980, Clara moved to Pigeon and in 1991 she moved to Bad Axe. Clara provided in-home care for the elderly, retiring in 1994 at the age of 92. She was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, Elkton, and a past member of the Chandler Presbyterian Church. She passed the time in her retirement years crocheting all kinds of handiwork. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Beck; two sisters, Anna McClean and Irene Block; and a brother, Earl Drummond. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton. The Rev. Robert Garrett will officiate with burial in the Chandler Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. today and from noon until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor's choice. Ronald Keller Ronald N. Keller, 60, of Grindstone City passed away Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at his home following an apparent heart attack. He was born on July 14, 1940, in Detroit to the late Paul Richard Keller and Stella (Smigelski) Keller. Ronald graduated from St. Andrews High School in Detroit in 1958. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a former employee of the Canteen Vending Co. in Detroit. His first wife, Margaret, passed away in 1978, and he married Ruby Deweese on June 18, 1984, in Grindstone. she preceded him in death on Jan. 11, 1990. He is survived by a brother, Gilbert Keller of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard, in 1997. Cremation took place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City and inurnment will be in the New River Cemetery near Huron City. Domenico Serazio Domenico Serazio, 87, of Sand Point died Friday afternoon, Oct. 6, 2000, at Courtney Manor, Bad Axe. He was born Jan. 24, 1913, in San Giorgio, Italy, to the late Peter and Josephine (Vergagni) Serazio. On April 24, 1938, he was united in marriage to Giovanna M. Iavelli in San Giorgio. He served his country during World War II in the Italian army. In November 1948, he moved to Detroit and his wife and son followed in April 1949. Domenic was employed at Chrysler Corp. for 33 years, retiring in 1980. He also owned Domenic's Landscaping, operating it from 1950 until he retired. He was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church and an avid gardener, growing all kinds of fruits, vegetables and flowers. Surviving are his wife, Gina; his son Peter and his wife, Shirley, of Sand Point; two granddaughters, Darlene Steenholdt and her husband, Jacob, of Kalamazoo, and Theresa Jaroch and her husband, Eric, of Romeo. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Charles and Eugene. A funeral mass was celebrated this morning, Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville, with burial in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to United Hospice or the American Diabetes Association. Matthew LaBuhn Matthew Steven LaBuhn, 5, of Bad Axe died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at University Hospital of Ann Arbor from injuries sustained in a fall. He was born on Dec. 19, 1994, in Bad Axe, the son of Steven and Vicki (Murdock) LaBuhn. He attended Ubly Kindergarten Center. He enjoyed outdoor activities, such as fishing, camping and four-wheeling. He was a member of the Mighty Ducks of Ubly baseball team. He attended Sunday school at the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his parents, Steven and Vicki LaBuhn of Bad Axe; sister, Shelby, and brother, Eric, both at home; paternal grandparents, William and Rose LaBuhn of Bad Axe; maternal grandparents, Norman and Mary Lou Maurer of Ubly; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, William (Bill) Murdock. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. today at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. The Rev. Jan Dykshroorn, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Bad Axe, will officiate. Burial will be private. Visitation will be noon to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Mott's Children's Hospital of Ann Arbor. Corinne O'Brien Corinne C. O'Brien, 90, of Stuart, Fla. and formerly of Beverly Hills, Detroit and Gaylord, died on Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at Lourdes Nursing Home in Waterford. She was born on Aug. 14, 1910, in Detroit. Corinne was a homemaker who loved golf, gardening, flowers and playing bridge. She was a former member of Meadowbrook Country Club and the Mariners Sands Club in Stuart. Survivors include her husband John M. "Jack" O'Brien; daughters, Mary Kay Noteman and her husband, James, of Milford, Sr. Judy O'Brien of Kinde, IHM, pastoral associate of St. Mary/St. Edward parishes in Kinde, and Nancy O'Brien and her husband, Steve Rocha, of Palisade, Colo.; grandchildren, Katherine Wagner, James, John, Andrew, Breeze, Amelia and Clare; four great- grandchildren; sisters, Marian Morrow and Margaret Dooley. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at Gesu Church, 17204 Oak Drive, Detroit. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield. Doris Meyer Doris E. Meyer, 89, of Caseville passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 7, 2000, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility, Bad Axe. She was born in Caseville on Feb. 23, 1911, daughter of the late Charles and Emma (Dorsch) Fogle. On May 31, 1941, she was united in marriage to Joseph W. Meyer in Bryan, Ohio. He preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1978. Mr. and Mrs. Meyer retired to Caseville in 1975 after living in Oscoda for 19 years. Mrs. Meyer graduated from Huron County Normal School in the spring of 1929 and Central Michigan Normal School. She was a Huron County rural school teacher and a private tutor for many years. She also was a former member of the Caseville Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3690 Auxiliary and a member of the Caseville United Methodist Church. Her survivors include a daughter, Sheila Meyer of Saginaw; three sons, Robert Meyer of Flint, Ronald Meyer and his wife, Shelly, of St. Charles, and Keith Meyer and his wife, Charlene, of Sandusky; five grandchildren, Kelly, Bobbie Jo, Melissa, Matthew and Danielle; two great-grandchildren, Bethany and Griffin; two sisters, Leatha Raye of Roseville and Ora Mapley and her husband, Don, of Rochester Hills; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at the Caseville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Memorials may be made to the Caseville United Methodist Church. Stephen Peruski Mr. Steven J. Peruski, Sr., 68, of Ubly, former co-owner of Swiss Motor Sales of Bay City and Ubly, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Sainte Marie. He was born Oct. 6, 1932, in Tyre, son of Grace (O'Parka) and the late Henry Peruski. He married Margaret Dobrowolsky on Nov. 22, 1958, at St. Felix Catholic Church of Pinnebog. He was a graduate of the country school. He farmed with his dad. He served in the U.S. Army overseas. He was the owner of Steven's Apartments of Ubly. He was a parishioner of St. John Catholic Church of Ubly for 35 years and an usher for years. He was a former member of St. Vincent De Paul Parish of Bay City for 20 years. He was the former co-owner of Swiss Motor Sales of Bay City and Ubly, former co- owner of Steven's Cleaners in Bay City and City Cleaners of Bad Axe, former owner of Adonna Beauty Shop of Bay City, former owner of Perry's Flavors Galore Ice Cream Shop in Bay City, sponsor of Steve's Cleaners Bowling Team of Bay City, former member of Independent Automobile Dealers Association, member of the Gaylord Auto Auction of Gaylord, Mannheim Auto Auction of Flat Rock, Flint Auto Auction of Flint, Detroit Auto Auction of Taylor, and Bay Auto Auction of Bay City. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he enjoyed golfing and visiting and camping with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Ubly; one daughter, Sherry Smith and her husband, Ben, of Port Hope; two sons, Steven J. Peruski, Jr., and his wife, Carolyn, of Ubly, and Perry Peruski and his wife, Sheila, of Bad Axe; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Kayla, Nathan, Kassandra, Kendra and Tiffany Peruski, and Dana, Heather and Kristen Smith; his mother, Grace Peruski, of Ubly; one sister, Marie Peruski of Bay City; and six brothers, Jim Peruski and his wife, Delphine, of Deckerville, Ron Peruski and his wife, Roxy, of Ubly, Stanley Peruski and his wife, Lorraine, of Ubly, Bob Peruski and his wife, Jane, of Ubly, Fred Peruski and his wife, Kathy, of Snover, and Allen Peruski and his wife, Carolyn of Ubly. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at St. John Catholic Church of Ubly. The Rev. T.J. Fleming, pastor, will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Graveside military honors will be provided by Ubly military organizations. There will be a prayer service at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Visitation will be 1 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund. 1
