HURON DAILY TRIBUNE, Bad Axe, Michigan Local Obituaries Week of June 11, 2000 Alice Weissman Alice C. Weissman, 85, died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at the Luther Manor in Saginaw following a lengthy illness. She was born on Jan. 6, 1915, in Sebewaing, the daughter of the late Oscar A. and Lorena M. (Mueller) Armbruster. She was united in marriage to William Weissman on Feb. 15, 1955, in Grand Rapids. He preceded her in death in 1986. Alice was employed as a bookkeeper for years in various clothing stores in Grand Rapids and later at Seitners in Saginaw. She also was a legal secretary in Grand Rapids. Surviving are two sisters, Linda Bach of Sebewaing and Marian Brown of Owosso; two sisters-in-law, Edna Armbruster of Caro and Alice Armbruster of Sebewaing; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Loren and Carl Armbruster and two brothers-in-law, Albert Bach and Dale Brown. The funeral service will take place at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2000, at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The Rev. Charles Kuhl will officiate with burial in the Northlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Lyle Faber Lyle N. Faber, 85, of Sebewaing died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Hills and Dales General Hospital in Cass City. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Dinkel- Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing and are incomplete at this time. A full obituary will appear in Sunday's edition of the Huron Daily Tribune. Loretta Miners Loretta M. Miners, 85, of Kingston died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Standish Community Hospital in Standish. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2000, at Kranz Funeral Home in Kingston with Dr. Philip Rice of Cass City United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Family Discretionary Fund. Roland Dutcher, Jr. Roland E. Dutcher, Jr., 68, of Sebewaing died Monday evening, June 12, 2000, at his home following a six-week long illness. He was born Aug. 26, 1931, in Oscoda, son of the late Laurel Anna (Thibault) and Roland E. Dutcher, Sr. He was married to Doris Ann Casebier in October 1955. She preceded him in death on Nov. 18, 1980. He then married Ruth Bechler on July 6, 1982, in the Fairhaven Mennonite Church in Bay Port. Roland had been a heavy haul truck driver for Dobson-Van Haren Truck Lines for years before retiring seven years ago. He was a member of the Fairhaven Mennonite Church in Bay Port and had been involved in many of the church's activities. He also was a life member of the National Rifle Association and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Surviving besides his wife, Ruth, are three sons, one daughter and their spouses: Richard Dutcher of Deckerville, Randy Dutcher and his wife, Pam, of Gautier, Miss., Robert Dutcher and his wife, Carol, of Bradenton, Fla., and Deanne Dutcher and her companion, Michael Nast, of Sebewaing; his father, Roland Dutcher, Sr., of Deckerville; nine grandchildren, Dennis, Melissa (serving in the U.S. Navy), Jessica, John, Joseph, Matthew, Ronny, Raymond and Tiffany; one great-grandson, Brandon; three brothers, one sister and their spouses, Leroy Dutcher and his wife, Louise, of Deckerville, Jerry Dutcher and his wife, Kathy, of Florida, David Dutcher and his wife, Chris, of Port Huron, and Laurel Decoteau and her husband, Louis, of Port Sanilac; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald; and one brother, Ralph Dutcher. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2000, at Pigeon River Mennonite Church in Pigeon. Dorothy Kirsch Dorothy Kirsch, 85, of Bad Axe died Tuesday afternoon, June 13, 2000, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born Nov. 14, 1914, in Bingham Township, daughter of the late Anthony and Laura (Wruble) Ventland. She married Orville Hill and he died in 1966. She then married Joseph Kirsch and he preceded her in death in 1981. Dorothy attended St. Mary's Catholic Church of Parisville. She enjoyed playing bingo, watching birds, dancing and loved to visit with family and friends. She is survived by two daughters, Loraine Hartsell of Bad Axe and Theresa Smeader and her husband, Sylvester, of North Branch; four sons, Edward Hill and his wife, Martha, of Cass City, Dennis Hill and his wife, Linda, of Harbor Beach, Arthur Hill and his wife, Cheryl, of New Baltimore, and James Joseph Kirsch of Bad Axe; 12 grandchildren, Julie Hunley and her husband, Dwayne, of Harbor Beach, Shannon Russell and her husband, Donnie, of Bad Axe, David Hill and his wife, Kathy, of Harbor Beach, Jennifer Kubucki and her husband, John, of Harbor Beach, Sherri Brandt and her husband, Steve, of Lapeer, Tamie Hill, Matthew Hill and Jessica Hill, all of Harbor Beach, Edward Hill, Jr., and Angie Hill, both of Cass City, Steven Hill of Saginaw and Martha Crossdy and her husband, Steven, of Otter Lake; 12 great-grandchildren, Jeremy Schemke, Amanda Schemke, Payton Hunley, Josh Hill, Erica Hill, Adrienne Kubucki, Dylan Kubucki, all of Harbor Beach, Steven Michalski of Bad Axe, Kendra Crossdy, Kyra Crossdy, Steve Crossdy and Lori Crossdy, all of Otter Lake; and several nieces and nephews. Kirsch, 85, of Harbor Beach died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Courtney Manor after a long illness. She was born Jan. 14, 1915, in Ruth to the late William and Mary (Emming) Messing. She married Wilbert A. Kirsch on Aug. 31, 1935, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church of Ruth. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1993. Margaret was a graduate of Sts. Peter & Paul Elementary School. She farmed with her family and worked at Clements Manufacturing in Minden City, retiring in 1977. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and family visits. She was a former officer and honorary member of St. Anthony's Altar Society. She worked at the annual dinners for many years. Margaret is survived by two daughters, Delores Arndt and her husband, Kenneth, of Harbor Beach and Joyce Puvalowski and her husband, Raymond, of Ruth; two sons, Donald Kirsch and his wife, Karen, of Milford and Richard Kirsch and his wife, Linda, of Harbor Beach; one daughter-in-law, Linda Kirsch; one son-in-law, Eugene Gosdzinski; four brothers, Robert Messing of Harbor Beach, Norman Messing and his wife, Eleanor, of Bad Axe, James Messing and his wife, Ula-Rae, of Spring Hill, Fla., Clem Messing and his wife, Donna, of Ruth; three sisters, Cecelia Van Dalen of Sandusky, Mary Essenmacher of Harbor Beach, Gladys Priemer of Ruth; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren. Pobanz, 97, of Sebewaing died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon following a brief illness. She was born on Oct. 11, 1902, in Winsor Township, daughter of the late Henry and Anna (Binder) Errer. She was united in marriage to Arnold H. Pobanz on Jan. 18, 1933, in Linkville. He preceded her in death on May 4, 2000. Lillie enjoyed quilting and tatting. Surviving are one daughter, Betty Koch and her husband, Franklin, of Gagetown; three grandchildren, Deborah Quick and her husband, Larry, Jim Koch and his wife, Carol, all of Gagetown, and Karen Heck and her husband, Rick, of Elkton; seven great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Kelsey, Bradley, Bethany, Chad, Chris and Samantha; two step-great-granddaughters, Miranda and Melissa; three sisters, Florence Vollmer of Pigeon, Loeda Murphy and Luella Shaw, both of Bad Axe; one sister-in-law, Stella Errer of Owendale; many nieces and nephews. "Bubba" Siens Jr., 47, of Delaware Township near Forestville passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Deckerville Community Hospital following an apparent heart attack. He was born in Trenton on Nov. 26, 1952, the son of the late Robert and Ethel (Velia) Siens. Bubba was a graduate of Harbor Beach Community Schools and a graduate of the Michigan State University Dairy Agriculture program. He and Julie Wilke were married on Nov. 8, 1975, in Forestville. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Palms and a 24-year member of the Delaware Township Fire Department. Most recently, he was a farmer and a driver for Halifax Milk hauling in Harbor Beach. Robert was an avid bowler and belonged to the Harbor Beach Thursday night bowling league. He was involved in the cleaning and fixing up of the Linwood Cemetery. He thoroughly enjoyed being with his grandchildren, family and friends. Bubba is survived by his wife, Julie Siens, of Minden City; two daughters, Paula Klee and her husband, Steve, of Minden City, Rebecca Siens at home, and a son, Robert Siens IV of Ruth; two grandchildren, Stephanie Klee and Keenan Siens; two brothers, Kenneth Siens of Waddell, Ariz., and David Siens of Harbor Beach. Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Saturday, June 17, 2000, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Palms with the Rev. Henry Malone, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the White Rock Cemetery. A Fireman's Memorial Service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and 11 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church. Thomas Biener Thomas D. Biener, 69, of Clinton Township passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Clinton Township following a short illness. He was born in Detroit on Nov. 23, 1930, to the late Thomas and Olga (Pelkey) Biener. Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving for four years. He was a retired employee of the Budd Wheel Co. in Detroit, retiring in 1993 after 32 years of employment. He and Mildred Timreck were married on May 31, 1980, in Grosse Pointe. He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of Clinton Township; two sisters, Sharon Swartz of Clinton Township and Shirley Sloan of Detroit; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2000, in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach. The Rev. Mark Girardin, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Port Hope. Visitation will be conducted from 10 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Kelly Vermeersch Kelly J. Vermeersch, 39, of Sebewaing, a Huron County Sheriff's deputy, died early Sunday morning, June 11, 2000, from injuries received in an automobile accident while on duty one mile north of Caseville. He was born Oct. 30, 1960, in Bay City, son of Cyriel B. and Laura B. (Belski) Vermeersch. He was united in marriage to Salli M. Beers on May 15, 1982, in Sebewaing. He was a 1978 graduate of Unionville-Sebewaing Area High School. He was employed as a mechanic at the former Bumhoffer-Gremel Ford dealer in Sebewaing and later for Shoreline Ford. He then attended Delta College, graduating from their police academy. He was a deputy with the Huron County Sheriff's Department for the past 12 years, serving on the road patrol as well as an accident investigator. He also was an EMT for the Sebewaing Ambulance and had worked part time as a patrolman for the Sebewaing Police Department. He was an avid hunter and golfer and loved to grow hot peppers. Surviving besides his wife, Salli, are three daughters, Katie Marie, Andrea Jo and Janel Maggie, all at home; his parents, Cyriel and Laura Vermeersch of Unionville; two sisters, two brothers and their spouses, Kathy Strieter and her husband, Raymond, Valerie Bitzer and her husband, Bret, Lonnie Vermeersch and his wife, Alice, all of Unionville, and Michael Vermeersch and his wife, Lynn, of Saginaw; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Janet Beers of Sebewaing; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by one sister, Julie; and an infant brother, Ricky. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Sebewaing. Harley Nichols Harley Rexford Nichols, 64, of Decker died peacefully Saturday, June 10, 2000, at his home in Decker. Carlyle Pomeroy Carlyle R. Pomeroy, 81, of Decker died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw. Memorials may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund. Regina Prill Regina Prill, 88, of Kinde died Sunday evening, June 11, 2000, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility, Bad Axe. She was born April 23, 1912, in Dwight Township, daughter of the late Mike and Kathryn (Zimkomski) Veginski. Miss Regina Veginski married Alex Prill, Sr. He preceded her in death in 1972. She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dwight, the Ladies Sodality and the St. Edward's Altar Society. She loved gardening, baking and visiting with family and friends. Surviving are eight daughters, Frances Walsh and her husband, Mike, of Sterling Heights, Virginia Lubeski and her husband, Harvey, of Bad Axe, JoAnne Butch and her husband, Thomas, of Elkton, Theresa Schmidt and her husband, Richard, of Bad Axe, Mari Sieman and her husband, Patrick, of Caseville, Marlene Yokom and her husband, James, of Fair Haven, Edna Miller of Davie, Fla., and Karen Jordon and her fiancee, Rocky Nichols, of Kinde; four sons, Alex Prill and his wife, Florence, of Port Austin, Michael Prill and his wife, Joan, of Sterling Heights, Joseph Prill and his wife, Mary, of Bad Axe, and Ed Prill and his wife, Dianne, of Kinde; 52 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; one brother, Archie Vigenski and his wife, Betty, of Kinde; and several nieces and nephews. Shad Ricketts Shad Ricketts, 15, of Deford died Saturday, June 10, 2000, in his home. Memorial services will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City, with Pastor Mark Todd of Living Word Worship Center officiating. Visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund. Eldon Purdy Eldon W. "Al" Purdy, 73, of Dimondale and formerly of Sand Point, our loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at his home Thursday, June 8, 2000, after a long illness. He was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Flint. Mr. Purdy was veteran of World War II, serving with the United States. He was a nursing home owner and administrator for more than 30 years. He was a past secretary-treasurer of the Michigan Nursing Home Association. He was a licensed pilot and for the past many years has spent his winters in Florida. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Viola L. Purdy; three children, Steve Purdy and his wife, Laurie, Carol Zimmer and her husband, Michael and Connie Neal; five grandchildren, Christopher and Kristen Purdy, Nathaniel and Emily Zimmer and Hunter Neal; sister Evelyn Woodruff; many special friends, including his friend from childhood, Bernard Kelley. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at the Tiffany Funeral Home 3232 West Saginaw in Lansing. Military honors will be provided by Edwin Leyanna V.F.W. Post No. 671 of DeWitt. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. John Weremiuk John J. Weremiuk, 83, of Caseville died Friday, June 9, 2000, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. He was born Nov. 24, 1916, in Hamtramak to the late John G. and Elena (Havriluk) Weremiuk. On June 3, 1939, he was united in marriage to Helen Lisowski in Detroit. She preceded him in death on Oct. 23, 1973. Mr. Weremiuk worked for Ford Motor Co. in Detroit from 1935 until retiring as a maintenance supervisor on Jan. 1, 1982. On Jan. 2, 1982, he married Martha (Mansfield) Willey at the Caseville United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Caseville Eagles, Scenic Golf Club and the Caseville Retirement Club. He attended the Caseville United Methodist Church and Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church in Detroit. Surviving are his wife, Martha; children, Sharon Weremiuk and her husband, Jerry Doppelt, of La Jolla, Calif., Kathleen Weremiuk and her husband, Talat Mirza, of Santa Monica, Calif., Patricia Anderson and her husband, Curt, of Pigeon, Gary Willey and his wife, Linda, of Elkton, Ray Willey of Tualatin, Ore., Jennifer Montanaro and her husband, Roger, of Melville, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren, Alexandra (Shasha), Chris, Gary, Stephanie, Brian, Allison, Sarah, Jennifer, Tammy, Justin and Julie; and six great grandchildren, Ashley, Gary, Christyn, Morgan, Keandre and Isabelle. He was preceded in death by by a brother, George, in 1973. Memorials may be made to the Caseville United Methodist Church. Lawrence Karg Lawrence T. Karg, 83, of Harbor Beach, a retired Bloomfield Township farmer, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2000, in the Harbor Beach Community Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Bloomfield Township near Port Hope on June 1, 1917, he is the son of the late Fred and Hannah (Schilke) Karg. He and Lillian Engel were married in Harbor Beach on May 15, 1937. Mr. Karg was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Harbor Beach, the Huron County Farm Bureau and a 35-year-member of the Michigan Milk Producers Association. Lawrence enjoyed farming, auction sales, visiting with family and friends and music. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lillian Karg of Harbor Beach; one son, Dennis Karg and his wife, Marcia, of Harbor Beach; three daughters, Marjory Grekowicz and her husband, James, of Macomb, Karen Maschke and her friend, Bruce Schwerin, of Lake Orion and Julie Lidster and her husband, Jeffery, of Canton; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two step- great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry Karg and his wife, Ada, of Harbor Beach; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald in 1956; two brothers, Alfred and Walter Karg; five sisters, Bertha List, Ella Merschenske, Ollie Learman, Martha Karg and Helen Wollen. Forsyth, 72, of Harbor Beach passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2000, in the long- term-care unit of Harbor Beach Community Hospital following a long illness. He was born on March 4, 1928, to the late Rosairo and Aurora (Bergeron) Forsyth. He is survived by cousins and was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Forsyth. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, June 12, 2000, in the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach with Sr. Eileen Houlihan, pastoral assistant at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church officiating. Richard Ouellette Richard "Dick" Joseph Ouellette, 73, of Elkton died Friday afternoon, June 9, 2000, at his home of an apparent heart attack. He was born July 24, 1926, in Detroit to the late Aldrich and Ella (DeRosia) Ouellette. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he moved to the Elkton area in 1947, taking a position at Active Industries, retiring after 37 years. On March 6, 1971, he was united in marriage to Veronica "Wannie" Seaman at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon. Dick was a member of the Carpenter-Dorsch VFW Post No. 6013, Elkton. Surviving are his wife, Wannie; two daughters, Mary Bolone and her husband, Joe, of Shelby Township, and Christine Dowd and her husband, Bill, of Marysville; one son, Pete Beaver and his wife, Chris, of Diamondale; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jeanette Smith of Elkhart, Ind. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton. The Rev. DeWeerd Smith will officiate with interment in Colfax Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation or Dialysis Center, Saginaw. 1
