Waller, 82, of Oak Beach died Thursday morning, Oct. 19, 2000, at Courtney Manor, Bad Axe, following a six-week illness. He was born April 8, 1918, in Detroit to the late Harry and Gertrude (Hacker) Waller. Mr. Waller never married and was employed at Hacker Hardware in Detroit until he retired. After retiring, he stayed busy as a handyman both in his Detroit neighborhood and at Oak Beach, a move he made in 1996. He remained in good health until several weeks ago, always enjoying his time with family and friends. Surviving are his sister, Ruth Brown of Oak Beach; his niece, Barbara Evans of Oak Beach; and his grand-nephew, Tom Evans and his wife, Mary Jane, of Ocala, Fla. At his request there will be no visitation or funeral services at this time. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville. Donna VanHoutteghem Donna VanHoutteghem, 82, of Yale died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at her son's home in St. Clair Shores. She was born April 18, 1918, in Flint. Mrs. VanHoutteghem was a homemaker. She loved to garden. She was a former Huron County resident and she helped her father, Alfred Eddy, raise his family. She taught school in a county school in the Port Hope area. On Oct. 20, 1947, she married Joe VanHoutteghem and moved to the Detroit area where they lived, worked and raised a family. Mrs. VanHoutteghem also worked at the office of her son, Dr. Jim VanHoutteghem, in Bad Axe from 1983 to 1990. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Arthur VanHoutteghem and his wife, Joann, of St. Clair Shores and Dr. James VanHoutteghem and his wife, Padgett, of Bad Axe; two grandchildren; her brothers, David and Chuck Eddy; a brother-in-law, Sal Pitcher of Filion; and two sisters-in-law, Ireen Eddy of Port Austin and Violet Thompson of St. Clair Shores. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; brothers Jim, John, Al and Bill Eddy; and a sister, Mary Pitcher. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at St. Issac Jogues Church, 21120 Benjamin, St. Clair Shores, with the Rev. Timothy Mazur officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today at Bagnasco and Calcaterra Funeral Home, 25800 Harper Ave., St. Clair Shores, and 9:30 to 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Jewell Corbishley Jewell M. Corbishley, 89, of Jackson, formerly of Harbor Beach, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, in the Countryside Retirement Center, Jackson. Born in Redman on May 29, 1911, she is the daughter of the late Jim and Ida (Woodward) Barclay. She lived many years in Harbor Beach and has been in Jackson for the past three years. She and George W. Harwood were married in 1931 in Harbor Beach, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 1962. Jewell married John V. Corbishley on June 6, 1970, in Harbor Beach, and he preceded her in death on July 13, 1992. Jewell was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Harbor Beach and the Harbor Beach Women's Club. She is survived by two daughters-in-law, Janet Harwood of Jackson and Noreen Wright of Port Huron; six grandchildren, Mark Harwood and his wife, Jody, of Birmingham, David Harwood and his wife, Catherine, of Eaton Rapids, Jane Harwood of Jackson, Nancy Harwood of Chandler, Ariz., Debra Wright and her husband, Jim Fechak, of Madison, Wisc., and Jeffery Wright of Holland; two great-grandchildren, Erika Harwood and Daniel Harwood; nephews Merle Barclay and Earl Trigger; and nieces Elaine Bond, Doris Stocks, Margaret Siebert and Grace Bully. Jewell was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Harwood in 1968, and Douglas Harwood in 2000; two brothers, Bill and Jim Barclay; and two sisters, Maggie Quick and Vera Trigger. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, in the First Presbyterian Church, Harbor Beach, with the Rev. Theresa Cutler officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach, and from 1 p.m. until the time of services Sunday at the church. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer's Foundation. Carol Dexter Carol J. Dexter, 61, of Elkton died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw. She was born May 3, 1939, in Pigeon to the late Wesley and Eliza (Couch) Kain. On Dec. 16, 1961, she was united in marriage to Leonard Dexter in Lansing. He preceded her in death on June 22, 1989. Carol raised her family and lived in the Elkton area most of her life, moving to Bad Axe a couple of years ago. She received much joy from the time she spent with her children and especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Victory in Christ Community Church, Bad Axe, and a charter member of the Elkton Lioness Club. Surviving are three sons, Jeff Dexter and his wife, Tamra, of Elkton, Duane Dexter and his wife, Kerry, of Cass City, and Brian Dexter and his wife, Mary Ann, of Bad Axe; twin daughters, Melissa and Michelle Dexter of Bad Axe; her brother, Ralph Kain of Bay Port; and five sisters, Beaulah Kretzschmer of Owendale, Virginia Roeber and her husband, George, of Bay Port, Mickey Kain of Cass City, Joyce Kain of Bad Axe and Marvel Rievert and her husband, Ken, of Sebewaing. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Maurice and Earl; and three sisters, Olive Gooch, Shirley Rothfuss and Ruby Meissner. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at the Victory in Christ Community Church. The Rev. Stewart Justin, pastor, will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton, and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to the family. George Parks George Francis Parks, 62, of Port Austin died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. He was born on Aug. 20, 1938, in Dwight Township, son of Frances Parks and the late John Parks. George was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, cribbage and puzzles. He is survived by his mother, Frances Parks of Port Austin; one brother, John Parks and his wife, Ann, of Port Austin; and two sisters, Gert Talaski of Port Austin and Josephine Goretski and her husband, Leo, of Port Austin. He was preceded in death by one sister, Florence Parks. A funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. The Rev. Michael J. Bell will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. There will be a parish scripture service at 7 p.m. this evening at Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. Visitation will be noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church. Clemence Esch Clemence H. Esch, 79, of Sebewaing died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at his home. He was born May 7, 1921, to Ernest J. and Martha A. (Pobanz) Esch. He married Grace Hercliff on Jan. 25, 1947, in Sebewaing. Clemence began farming at the age of 14. He was a very active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Clemence was the last member of the building committee for the church that was built in 1950. He was a faithful member of the church and held the offices of Elder, Trustee, treasurer and a school board member. Mr. Esch also was a member of the Sebewaing Lions Club and was a past member of the Ricardo Ranch Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and spend the past 16 winters in Yuma, Ariz. Clemence is survived by his wife, Grace; his children Daniel Esch and his wife, Janet, of Yuma, Ariz., Philip Esch and Timothy Esch, both of Sebewaing, and Lois Sorenson and her husband, Jon, of Dillingham, Ark.; grandchildren, Ruth Sorenson, Laura Sorenson, Brian Esch and Erik Esch; and a twin brother, Clarence Esch and his wife, Marilyn, of Sebewaing. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Bach with the Rev. Ernest Wendt officiating. Interment will be in Northlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Esch will be Robert Fritz, Wayne Fritz, George Kovach, Michael Zagata, Andrew Zagata and Keith Nitz. Visitation will be noon to 9 p.m. today at Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing, and 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church Music Fund. Anna Marie Hentschl Anna Marie Hentschl, 71, of Harbor Beach passed away Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, in the long term care unit of Harbor Beach Community Hospital following a long illness. She was born Oct. 17, 1928, in Harbor Beach, daughter of the late Arthur and Anna (Landra) Groll. She and Dr. Arnold Hentschl were married Oct. 19, 1963, in Harbor Beach. Anna Marie was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church and the Altar Society and was a former member of the Parish Council. She was a member and former officer of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital Auxiliary. She also belonged to the Michigan Veterinarian Medical Association Auxiliary and the American Veterinarian Medical Association Auxiliary. Anna Marie is survived by her husband, Dr. Arnold Hentschl of Harbor Beach; her children, Julie Meissner and her husband, Michael, of Minden City, Paul Hentschl and his wife, Jude, of San Diego, Calif., Mary Hentschl-Early and her husband, Matt, of Kalamazoo, Neal Hentschl and his wife, Frieda, of Harbor Beach, John Hentschl and his wife, Christie, of Sarasota, Fla., and Joseph Hentschl of Harbor Beach; and 16 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Sylvester Groll. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at noon Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, in Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, Harbor Beach, with Fr. Gerald Kukla, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A parish vigil service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. this evening and 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and from 11 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to Harbor Beach Community Hospital or OLLH. Jack Johnson Jack Douglas "Doug" Johnson, 62, of Beverly Hills, Mich., and Port Austin, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, in Detroit. He was born July 20, 1938, in Calumet City. Doug was employed by Trolsen Excavating as a field engineer in the construction and excavation industry. Doug was a man who loved his children, grandchildren and treasured the gifts of nature. He was the happiest on the weekends at his home in Port Austin surrounded by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hunter Johnson; a son, Paul Johnson and his wife, Gail; four daughters, Karen Gomez and her husband, Xico, Kelli Lewton and her husband, Randal Secondino, Shannon Johnson and Nicole Braun; a son-in-law, Jon Lewton; grandchildren Lauryn Lewton, Max, Sam and Ana Gomez, Paul, Spencer and Alexis Johnson, and Joshua Braun; and sisters Norma Perry and Darlene Rogers. There will be a memorial service at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road, Troy, with the Rev. Thomas A. Barbret officiating. James "Jock" Murdick James (Jock) Murdick, 73, of Snover passed away Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Port Huron Hospital. He was born Dec. 15, 1926, in Snover, son of the late Isaac and Iva (Fisher) Murdick. He married Marjorie Elizabeth Gilbert on Sept. 18, 1948, in Port Huron. Mr. Murdick was a lifelong farmer. He was an employee of Snover Stamping for over 31 years. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; two sons, Jim Murdick and his wife, Linda, of Snover, and John Murdick and his wife, Debra, of Bay Port; two daughters, JoAnn Tyson of Pennsylvania and Janet Hoyt of Snover; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandson; three brothers, Kenneth Murdick and his wife, Gladys, of Rhode Island, and Otis "Butch" Murdick of Ruby, and Jerry Murdick and his wife, Lillian, of Detour Village. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George "Bob" Murdick and Roger Murdick. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at Hacker Funeral Parlors, Sandusky with Elder Judy Doerr of Ubly officiating. Burial will be in Johnson Cemetery, Snover. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family. LTC John Misch Lt. Col. John M. Misch, 72, of Macomb and Cass City, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, in St. Joseph Hospital, Macomb, after a long illness. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at Catholic Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity, United States Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., with Lt. Col. Burns officiating. Interment will be in West Point Cemetery, West Point, N.Y. Memorials may be made to the Catholic Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity in West Point.
