She was born June 19, 1909, in Filion and lived in Huron County throughout her life, residing in the Caseville area since 1939. June was a graduate of Ypsilanti College of Teaching and was a country schoolteacher throughout the county from 1928 to 1960. She was an artist, a naturalist and an avid historian who has authored numerous publications and research articles including a history of the Thumb and a history of the ghost town, Port Crescent. June is survived by her brother, Lyle Nelson of Kinde; her nephew, Mike Nelson, his daughter, Melissa and her sons, Derek and Zachary, all of Bad Axe; her niece, Michele Nelson and her son, Josha, and daughter, Jennifer, all of Kinde. June was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Nettie (Humphrey) Nelson; her brothers, Carson and Cecil Nelson; a sister-in-law, Nadine Nelson and a longtime companion, Kelly Filion. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be announced and conducted at a later time. The family requests that no flowers be sent, but that any memorials be sent in June's name to the Pigeon District Library or the Huron County Historical Society. Kent White Kent L. White, 68, of Caseville died at his home Wednesday, April 19, 2000, following a long illness. He was born Oct. 30, 1931, in Kingsport, Tenn., to the late Willard and Opal (Hodge) White. Mr. White was employed at the General Motors Technical Center in Warren for 35 years. He was a tool and die maker and a pattern maker, retiring in 1995. On June 14, 1986, he was united in marriage to Ellen Phillips in Las Vegas, Nev. They had been coming to the Caseville area from St. Clair Shores since 1985 and moved there after his retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a member of the Caseville Eagles Club. Surviving are his wife, Ellen; four children, Kent Jr., Jamie, Tammy and Charlene; four stepchildren, Dan, Stan, Judy and Julia; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his brother, Harvey, and his sister, Marie. A funeral mass will be conducted Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at St. Mary's Catholic Church (exact time is pending), with burial in Kingsport, Tenn. There will be no local visitation or services. Memorials may be directed to Alcoholics Anonymous or the donor's choice. Arrangements are by the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville. Duncan Campbell Duncan Campbell, 94, of Bad Axe died Tuesday evening, April 18, 2000, at Huron Memorial Hospital in Bad Axe. He was born Jan. 24, 1906, in Meade Township to the late Archie and Jane (McVictor) Campbell. On May 26, 1938, Duncan was married to Verna L. Willett. She preceded him in death in 1990. He and Rose (Koss) Lemanski were married on Aug. 1, 1992. Duncan worked at the Huron County Road Commission until his retirement. He also worked at the Bad Axe Theater and was a master sign painter. His signs hang in the Huron County Expo Building, the Grindstone Sportsman's Club and all over Huron County. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bad Axe, Life Mason member of Verona Huron Lodge No. 365 for 50 years, the Bad Axe Lions Club and the Good Sams Club. Duncan enjoyed painting, taking pictures and videos, traveling throughout the country, reading books and creating videos from old photographs. Duncan is survived by his wife, Rose; one daughter, Lorraine Louise Dayringer and her husband, Garald Lee, of Midland; one grandson, Aron Charles Dayringer of Midland; one stepson, Robert Lemanski and his wife, Marie, of Bad Axe; one stepdaughter, MaDonna Howell and her husband, Owen, of Iron Mountain; five step- grandchildren, Gabriel Lemanski of Harbor Beach, Demetrius Lemanski of Lansing, Blanda Hattic and her husband, Chad, of Denver, Colo., Joan Nystram and her husband, Steve, of Virginia, and Robert Sytek of Ohio; one step-great-grandchild, Peter Mystram of Virginia; one brother-in-law, Cliff Willett and his wife, Ruth, of Bad Axe; one sister- in-law, Lawaine Willett of Okemos; and several nieces and nephews. Duncan was preceded in death by one son, Donald; and two brothers, Peter and Donald Campbell. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2000, at the First United Methodist Church of Bad Axe with the Rev. William Wright officiating. Burial will take place at the Verona Cemetery. A Masons service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday at MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to the family. Mildred Crank Mildred B. Crank, 92, of Pittsfield Township and formerly of Caseville, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Whitehall Convalescent Center. She was born Jan. 20, 1908, in Lenawee County, the daughter of Everett D. and Ethel J. (Sebring) Sinclair. Mrs. Crank grew up in Ypsilanti and was a graduate of Roosevelt High School. On May 6,1937, she married Frederick J. Crank and he preceded her in death on April 27, 1973. She was a member of the Caseville United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ypsilanti Chapter, and a member and secretary of the Caseville Library Club for many years. Survivors include one son, Frederick J. Crank and his wife, Carole, of Caseville; one daughter, Ethel E. Sanderson and her husband, John, of Ypsilanti; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret Marsh of Ypsilanti. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Gerald Sinclair. There will be a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2000, at the Caseville Township Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Quayle of the Caseville United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Moore Memorial Chapel in Ypsilanti. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Melvina Clothier Melvina Patricia Clothier, 67, of Millington died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2000, at Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City, with the Rev. R.B. Ouellette of First Baptist Church of Bridgeport officiating. Interment will be in Watertown Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund. Harold McLeod Harold G. McLeod, 74, of Kinde went to be with the Lord on April 20, 2000, at his home after a long illness. He was born Dec. 27, 1925, at Drayton Plains, the son of the late Floyd and Ethel (Heron) McLeod. He and Grace Irene Winn were married on Dec. 1, 1956, in the Bad Axe Assembly of God Church. He graduated from Pinnebog High School in 1944 and was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Filion Nazarene Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and visiting. Harold is survived by his wife, Grace; two sons, Clinton McLeod and his wife, Tonia, of Oscoda, and Mark McLeod and his wife, Denise, of Port Austin; a daughter, Marcella Mosey and her husband, Roger, of Caro; eight grandchildren, Joey McLeod, David McLeod, Jessica Brown, Aaron McLeod, Brielle McLeod, Christine Mosey, Jean Mosey and Matthew Mosey; two brothers, Kenneth McLeod and his wife, Helen, of Port Austin, and Ronald McLeod and his wife, Sandy, of Allenton; two sisters, Maxine Hammock and her husband, William, of Bad Axe, and Judith Couch and her husband, Phillip, of Columbia City, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Robert McLeod. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2000, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home Gage Chapel, Kinde. Pastor Donald Stroud will officiate. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from noon until the time of services at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Filion Nazarene Church or Huron Memorial Hospice. Daisy Hinton Daisy Lavera Hinton, 73, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at Bay Medical Center in Bay City. She was born March 28, 1927, in Bay Port, daughter of the late Albert and Stella (Beadle) Deming, Sr. She was united in marriage to Harold H. Hinton in April 1944. He died Aug. 15, 1977. Daisy was a member of Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon and a former member of Easter Star Elkton, Chapter No. 431. She was a school bus driver for Laker Schools for 19 years. Daisy enjoyed gardening and flowers, golf and rock hunting. Daisy is survived by her daughter, Sandra Sakowski and her husband, Donald, of Rockford; her sons, Andrew Hinton and his wife, Shirley, of Almont and William Hinton and his wife, Sandra, of Reese; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her brothers, William Deming and his wife, Julie, of Bridgeport, Darl Deming and his wife, Marge, of Elkton, Albert Deming, Jr., and his wife, Donna, of Bay Port, Frank Deming and his wife, Wilma, of Bay Port, and Herbert Deming of Mayville; her sister, Grace Finkbeiner and her husband, Clare, of Elkton; her brother-in-law, Rudy Pekrul of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; her sister-in-law, Sophie Hinton of Bad Axe; a special friend, Arlington Fritz of Owendale; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sons, Ronald, Thomas and Gerald Hinton; her sister, Agnes Killingbeck; and her brothers, Peter and David Deming. The funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The Rev. Raymond Orth of Cross Lutheran Church, Pigeon, will officiate with burial in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today and noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association. Mona McBride Mona P. McBride, 87, of Gotts Corner passed away Saturday afternoon, April 15, 2000, at her home. She was born Nov. 10, 1912, at the home of her parents, the late Harry and Iva (Betteridge) Chappel, in Meade Township. On Aug. 12, 1931, she was united in marriage to Fred McBride in Cass City. He preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 1993. Mrs. McBride lived in the Pinnebog-Gotts Corner-Caseville area most of her life. General Telephone employed her for many years as an operator in the Elkton and Caseville offices. She then was employed at McKenzie's store in Elkton for 27 years, retiring in 1993. She was an active member of the Caseville United Methodist Church and women's group. She was also a member of the Worthy Study Club and the Rush Lake Farm Bureau. Surviving are her son, Jay McBride of San Diego, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Curtis, Terry, Tom and Brent McBride, all of San Diego, Calif., Jim McBride and his wife, Judy, of Gaylord, Dennis McBride of Gotts Corner, Jeri Hill and her husband, Tom, of Clarkston, and Debbi Quantrell and her husband, Tim, of Poway, Calif.; 13 great- grandchildren, Holli Moritis and her husband, Jim, of Whittemore, Gretchen Hartsell and her husband, Dale, of Caseville, Fred McBride of Naples, Fla., Bridget McBride of Gaylord, Garrett McBride and his wife, Brooke, of San Clemente, Calif., Laura Hill of Clarkston, Erin, Gina and Nicholas McBride of San Diego, Calif., and Neal, Kyle, Noah and Evan of Poway, Calif.; one great-great-granddaughter, Chloe Moritis of Whittemore; and a brother, Dale Chappel and his wife, Lucille, of San Diego, Calif. She was preceded in death by a son, Duane, on Nov. 6, 1976; a brother, Lee, on June 29, 1997; and a sister, Alys Dufty, on May 28, 1999. A private visitation for the family will take place at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton, after which cremation will take place. A memorial and committal service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 20, 2000, at the Caseville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Michael Quayle, pastor, will officiate with burial in the Caseville Township Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Caseville United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or Huron Memorial Hospice. Juanita Clor Mrs. Juanita M. Clor, 92, of Ruth died Sunday evening, April 16, 2000, at the Harbor Beach Long Term Care Facility. She was born Feb. 23, 1908, in Ruth, daughter of the late Anthony and Anna (Volmering) Stacer. She married Nicholas Clor on Oct. 22, 1929, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. He preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1964. She was a graduate of Country School. She worked with her family on the farm before her marriage, then worked with her husband on the farm. She moved to Ruth in 1970 and was a former member of the Farm Bureau. She was a parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. She enjoyed quilting, needlework and gardening. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Jane Bismack of Roseville; one son, Ronald Clor and his wife, Rosalee, of Clinton Township; 10 grandsons; two granddaughters; 23 great- grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Harold Stacer of Ruth and Merlin Stacer and his wife, Magdalene, of Ruth. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Doris Ann White; infant sister, Adelaide Stacer; and four brothers, Robert, Wilfred, Quentin and Jerome Stacer. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. The Rev. Ronald Wagner, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be a parish wake service at 8 p.m. tonight by Fr. Wagner at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Visitation will be 1:30 to 9:30 p.m. today and from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Donna Weiss Donna Marie Weiss, 73, of Pigeon, beloved wife and mother, passed away Friday, April 14, 2000, at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw. She was born in Pigeon on June 23, 1926, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Diener) Danks. Fifty-four years ago, on Feb. 16, 1946, she was united in marriage to Harvey Weiss at Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon. Mrs. Weiss was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She enjoyed caring for children, often helping her daughter, Lori, with her child care vocation, and was endearingly referred to by many as "Nana" or "Grandma." She was a faithful member of Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon, where she taught Sunday School for 32 years and was active with the women of the church. She was also a member of the Townliners Extension Club. Her survivors include her husband, Harvey; three daughters, Connie Eden and her husband, Michael, of Bay Port, Lori Smith and her husband, John, of Pigeon and Patti Weiss of Saginaw; four grandchildren, Rebecca and Rachel Eden and James and Benjamin Smith; two step-grandchildren, Christopher and Jamey Eden; two brothers, John E. "Jack" Danks and his wife, Katherine, of Okeechobee, Fla., and Robert Danks and his wife, Roberta, of Pigeon; a sister-in-law, Mildred Danks of Saginaw; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, James D.; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Anne and Wendy Marie Smith; and two brothers, Raymond and Roland Danks. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2000, at Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon, with the Rev. Raymond E. Orth, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home in Pigeon and from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Cross Lutheran School Building Fund. Brian J. Guitar Brian J. Guitar, 55, son of the late Leo and Cathleen Guitar of Ruth and Port Huron, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, of a heart attack in Las Vegas, where he made his home. Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2000, in the Karrer- Simpson Funeral Home in Port Huron, Pine Grove Avenue and Hancock Street. Inurnment will follow in Mt.
