She was born on June 4, 1956, in Monroe, the daughter of James and Betty Dines. She and Daniel P. Louks, formerly of Bad Axe, were married Oct. 9, 1984, in Bad Axe. She was a bus driver for Monroe Public Schools, the recipient of safe driving awards, and a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Ida. She enjoyed helping others and spending time with family and friends. Surviving are her husband, Dan, of Ida; a son, Daniel Louks of Ida; a daughter, Crystal Baltrip of Ida; a stepdaughter, Ami Louks of Belleville; a stepson, Doug Louks of Japan; her father, James, of Ocala, Fla.; brothers Tim and Marty of Monroe; two sisters, Diane Grummel of Newport and Mary Taylor of Ocala; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Bill Wilson; her mother, Betty Dines; and a brother, Daniel Dines. The funeral procession to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle, where she was laid to rest, was led by the Monroe school bus she formerly drove. John Walker Mr. John Edward Walker, 62, of Ubly died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at his residence. He was born July 21, 1938, in Caro, son of the late John (Jack) C. Walker and the late Frances I. (Mercer) Walker. He married Eleanor M. Marks on Nov. 27, 1963, in Angola, Ind. She preceded him in death on Nov. 20, 1981. He then married Margaret I. Martin on May 12, 1983, in Bad Axe. She preceded him in death on Feb. 28, 1995. John was employed at the Detroit Edison Power Plant for 32 years. He was a member of the Appin Gun Club. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. After retirement, he enjoyed working in his garden and orchard. He also enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. He is survived by one son, John K. Walker and his wife, Laura, of Bad Axe; three daughters, Susan Dickens and her husband, David, of Warren, Janice Hallock and her husband, Jeff, of Ubly, and Kimberly Boland and her husband, John, of Cass City; three stepsons, James Marks and his wife, Laureen, of Milan, Ronald Pearce and his wife, Tammy, of Wyandotte, and Donald Pearce of Wyandotte; a stepdaughter, Agnes Kosinski and her husband, Jim, of Elkton; 10 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Al Walker and his wife, Evelyn, of Gig Harbor, Wash.; two sisters, Sally Owensby and her husband, Ernest, of Mount Clemens, and Jennifer Klinefelt of East China; and two aunts, Donelda Meske and her husband, Ben, of Port Hope, and Leota McLean of Pontiac. He was preceded in death by Eleanor and Margaret; a son, David; a brother, James; and a sister, Alice Smith. Funeral services will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. The Rev. Ellen Burns, pastor of the Ubly United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Elkland Township Cemetery in Cass City. Visitation will be 1:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Betty Mae Wolfe Betty Mae Wolfe, 76, of Marlette and formerly of Huron County, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at Marlette Community Hospital. She was born April 10, 1924, in Chandler Township. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Anna (Cox) Taylor. She graduated from Kinde Public Schools. Miss Betty Taylor and Mr. William Wolfe were married Jan. 18, 1946, in Detroit. He preceded her in death on May 13, 1997. Betty was a member of the Kinde Presbyterian Church, where she made mittens for the children. She also enjoyed playing euchre. She is survived by one son, William Wolfe and his wife, Janet, of Utica; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Duane Taylor and his wife, Lorraine, of Caseville and Robert Edward Taylor of Tawas; two sisters, Verneita Braun and her husband, Bert, of Elkton, and Lois Jean Rowlett of Hazel Park; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Willa Jean Krause; and her sister, Mildred Azarovitz. In keeping with Betty's wishes, graveside services took place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at Colfax Township Cemetery with the Rev. Matthew Arneson officiating. Funeral arrangements were handled through the MacAlpine Funeral Home, Bad Axe. Cole Woolner Cole Victor Woolner, 36, of Pontiac died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home-Gage Chapel, Kinde, with the Rev. Robert Garrett officiating. Burial will follow in New River Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Kimberly Maunsell Kimberly Ann Maunsell, 32, of Caseville died Thursday morning, Sept. 21, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw. She was born June 12, 1968, in Cass City, daughter of Gerald and Mary (Spencer) Gabler. Kimberly moved to the Daytona Beach, Fla., area at age 8. While in school she met Michael J. Maunsell. They were married Oct. 28, 1995, at St. Brendans Catholic Church, Ormond Beach, Fla. They moved to the Caseville area in April 1995, and she took a position as a computer programmer at the Cooperative Elevator Co. in Pigeon. Surviving are her husband, Michael; her son, Alexander; her parents, Gerald and Mary Gabler of Decker; two sisters, April Smith and her husband, Wayne, of Crab Orchard, Ky., and Kelly Sadro and her husband, Ray, of Sandusky; her paternal grandmother, Anna Gabler of Marlette; and her maternal grandfather, Clarence Spencer Sr., of Caro. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Daytona, Fla. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family. Katie Albrecht Katie E. Albrecht, 89, of Pigeon, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at the Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care Unit following a long illness. She was born in Wellman, Iowa, on Nov. 24, 1910, daughter of the late George and Naomi Swartzendruber and stepdaughter of the late Lena (Kelm) Swartzendruber. On Nov. 28, 1929, she was united in marriage to Herbert Albrecht in Pigeon. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1975. Mrs. Albrecht was a member of Pigeon River Mennonite Church, where she was active with the Sewing Circle. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and growing flowers, especially roses. She loved nurturing her family and often babysat for her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Virgil Albrecht and his wife, Martha, of Vassar, Carol Miller and her husband, Arnold, of Farmington, N.M., and Herbert Albrecht and his wife, Dorothy, of Vassar; a son-in-law, Clayton Maust and his wife, Thelma, of Harrisonburg, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Albrecht of Lancaster, Pa.; 17 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Velma Esch and her husband, Ira, of Fairview and Edna Gascho of Pigeon; a brother, Glen Swartzendruber and his wife, Irma, of Pigeon; sisters-in-law, Iva Swartzendruber and Erma Swartzendruber, both of Bay Port; and several nieces and nephews. Melissa Anne Breuss Melissa Anne Breuss, 20, of Port Austin died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2000. She was born on Aug. 8, 1980, in Bad Axe. Melissa was a 1998 graduate of North Huron High School and worked at Chuck and Jane's Restaurant in Port Austin. She is survived by her father, Dwayne A. Breuss of Port Austin and his special friend, Jill Osentoski; her mother, Kimberly A. Breuss of Port Austin and her special friend, Brian Miller; two brothers, Brian and Bradley of Port Austin; her paternal grandparents, Eugene and Irene Breuss of Port Austin; two uncles, Richard Arnott and his wife, Marion, of Warren and Eugene Breuss of Flint; two aunts, Ellen Engler and her husband, Al, of Bad Axe and Diana Streussnig and her husband, Raymond, of Bad Axe; one nephew, Brendan Breuss of Port Austin; one niece, Alison Monaco of Port Austin; and her special friends, Brad Miller of Port Austin and Leon Jakobowski. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Carol and Richard Arnott; and her uncle, Michael Breuss. Edgar Winter Edgar P. Winter, 82, of Sebewaing died Tuesday evening, Sept. 19, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center Cooper in Saginaw following a five-month illness. He was born March 5, 1918, in Sebewaing, son of the late Richard J. and Emma B. (Engelhardt) Winter. He was united in marriage to Rose D. Schmidt on March 30, 1948, in Sebewaing. Edgar was a farmer in the Sebewaing area and also was chief chemist at the Michigan Sugar Co. in Sebewaing for many years before retiring several years ago. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served in various offices of the church. He also was a member of the Sebewaing American Legion Post No. 293. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Surviving besides his wife, Rose, are three sons, two daughters and their spouses, Terry A. Winter and his wife, Pam, of Sebewaing, Dennis C. Winter and his wife, Judith, of Charlevoix, Ronald D. Winter of Houston, Texas, Janice K. Brown and her husband, Daniel, of Deford and Gail M. Wilson and her husband, Al, of Sebewaing; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Winter and his wife, Doris, of Harper Woods; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lorna Bach. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. The Rev. Mary Vargo Mary Vargo, 94, of Cass City died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, in Tendercare Nursing Facility, Cass City. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at St. Agatha Catholic Church, Gagetown, with the Rev. Paul Bala and Sr. Joan Maher officiating. Interment will be in the Elkland Township Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 1 to 9 p.m. today and 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Agatha Catholic Church or Meals on Wheels. Rose Anderson Rose C. Anderson, 35, of Gagetown passed away Friday, Sept. 15, 2000. She was born in Bad Axe on Sept. 5, 1965, the daughter of Felix and Helen Miller Murawski. She was employed with Walbro Corp. in Cass City and Caro. Surviving are her children, Steven Lee Anderson and Cynthia Rose Anderson; her mother, Helen Murawski; her brothers and sisters, Andrew Murawski of Owendale, Peter Murawski of Owendale and his friend, Jeanne Anderson, Felix Murawski Jr., of Austin, Texas, Kathleen Nadolski and her husband, Dan, of Midland, Linda Emmons and her husband, Leonard, of Catoosa, Okla., Magdeline Gray and her husband, Douglas, of Gagetown, Joyce MacMillon and her husband, Donald, of Bad Axe, Marian Bakan of Gagetown and Suzan Maxson and her husband, Jeffery, of Bad Axe; and her former husband, Jimmy Lee Anderson of Florida. Bessie Blakeslee Bessie Blakeslee, 100, of Bad Axe and formerly of Farmington, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at Sunny Acres Nursing Center. She was born March 27, 1900, daughter of the late George H. and Agnes Rose (Lang) Rogers. Bessie and Victor Blakeslee were married on July 12, 1927, in Detroit. Victor preceded her in death in 1964. She was a bookkeeper for an auto dealer for many years. She is survived by one brother, Richard R. Rogers and his wife, Veronica, of Bad Axe and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ora Bixby and Rhea Markle; and five brothers, Eugene, Kirk, Elmer, John and Paul. Cremation will take place today, Sept. 19, 2000, at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. In keeping with Bessie's wishes, no services will take place. Alice Rink Alice A. Rink, 88, of Port Hope passed away Monday morning, Sept. 18, 2000, in the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Alice was born March 14, 1912, in Harbor Beach to Robert and Louise (Reisner) Hansky. She and Theo A. Rink were married on Nov. 20, 1929, in Port Hope with the Rev. Berner officiating. Theo passed away May 1, 1979. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Port Hope, Ladies Aid, Lutheran Child Friends Society and Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Alice is survived by four sons, Carlton Rink and his wife, Dolores, of Kalamazoo, Alvin Rink of Detroit, Kenneth Rink and his wife, Janet, of Sebewaing and Theodore Rink and his wife, Shirley, of Port Hope; four daughters, Bernadine Putnik of Boca Raton, Fla., Arla Loveland of Sterling Heights, Donna Thormahlen and her husband, Robert, of Valparaiso, Ind., and Rachael Svoke and her husband, Joseph, of Farmington Hills; 23 grandchildren; 26 great- grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three sisters, Doretha Kautz of Harbor Bach, Eloise Klaska and her husband, Chet, of Harbor Beach and Gladys Smith of Clinton Township. Hilda Schmidt Hilda "Joyce" Schmidt, 73, of Bad Axe died unexpectedly Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Huron Memorial Hospital in Bad Axe. She was born on Oct. 16, 1926, in Ubly. She was the daughter of the late Dewitt and Mary (Guigar) Hunt. Miss Hilda "Joyce" Hunt and Mr. Fred Schmidt were married on Feb. 10, 1945. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1991. During her lifetime, she worked for Lyntex Manufacturing in Ubly. She collected dolls and bells. She loved animals. She is survived by her sons, Frederick Schmidt and his wife, Marjie, of Deckerville, Irwin Schmidt and his wife, Linda, of Bad Axe and Holly Schmidt and wife, Debra, of Ubly; daughters, Geraldine Krohn of Bad Axe, Rosemary Radabaugh and her husband, Carl, of Niles and Margaret Burzyck of Bad Axe; two brothers, Calvin Hunt and his wife, Betty, of Ubly and Harold Hunt and his wife, Ila, of Deford; two sisters, Marie Sherman and Mary Ann Walsh and her husband, Donald, of Ubly; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, William Schmidt; two brothers, Gerald Hunt and Duane Hunt. Burial followed in Colfax Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Victor Talaski Victor J. Talaski, 78, of Bad Axe passed away on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. He was born on Oct. 13, 1921, in Lincoln Township, son of the late John and Anastasia (Dudek) Talaski. He married Lucy Schmitt on Nov. 9, 1946, in St. Felix Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on Dec. 2, 1988. Mr. Talaski was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army 88th Infantry Division in the European Theater where he was a prisoner of war for 24 days in Italy. He was the proud recipient of the Purple Heart. He enjoyed being outside tending to his lawn and garden. He is survived by three daughters, Ruth Ann MacAlpine of Bad Axe, Joyce Susalla and her friend, Michael Deering, of Owendale, and Vicki Yaroch and her husband, Pat, of Bad Axe; two brothers, Edward Talaski and his wife, Audrey, of Covina, Calif., and Leonard Talaski and his wife, Jeannette, of Bad Axe; two sisters, Dorothy Fischer of Port Austin and Agnes Morell of Bad Axe; six grandchildren, Rene Parks and her husband, William, of Wilmington, N.C., Jennifer Salander of Elkton, PFC Jason Susalla of Camp Casey, Korea, Erin MacAlpine of Bad Axe, and Megan and Lindsay Yaroch of Bad Axe; two great-grandchildren, Shelby Susalla of Owendale and Branden Salander of Elkton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Leo, Raymond, John and Steve Talaski; and three sisters, Bertha Miller, Florence Andreski and Theresa Talaski. Ruth Wagner Ruth E. Wagner, 80, of Sebewaing died early Monday morning, Sept. 18, 2000, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe after a one-month illness. She was born Oct. 19, 1919, in Sebewaing, daughter of the late Omar F. and Martha R. (Winter) Wagner. Ruth had been baptized on Nov. 9, 1919, at Immanuel Lutheran Church and confirmed there on March 25, 1934. She was a life member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Surviving are four cousins. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The Rev. Gerald Meyer, vacancy pastor, will officiate, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Radio Mission Fund or Immanuel Lutheran Church. Georgia Pavlichek Georgia J. Pavlichek, 76, of Owendale passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born in Oak Hill, Ohio on Sept. 8, 1924, daughter of the late Edward J. and Mira P. (McCain) Howard. She was united in marriage to Paul Pavlichek, who preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 1984. Mrs. Pavlichek was a former member of the D.A.V. Post No. 107 Auxiliary in Eastpointe. She was a homemaker throughout her lifetime and enjoyed her home crafting projects as well as gardening. She was an active member of the Gagetown Church of the Nazarene. She is survived by two daughters, Paulette Kauer and her husband, Robert, of Oscoda, and Pamela Richez and her husband, Jay, of Columbia, Tenn.; two sons, Larry Pavlichek and his wife, Donna, of Sebewaing and Douglas Pavlichek and his wife, Patricia, of Clinton Township; a daughter-in-law, Janet Wilson of Bad Axe; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Marguerite Hough and her husband, George, and Jean Putman of Owendale, Fern Van Sickle of Snover, Alberta Bach and her husband, Alfred, of Sebewaing, and Hazel Good and her husband, Ronald, of Gagetown; a brother, Edward Howard, Jr., and his wife, Shirley, of Owendale; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Church of the Nazarene Mission Fund. Irene Mayes Irene S. Mayes, 89, of Port Austin, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000 at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born on July 3, 1911 in Port Austin, daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Sikora) Mayes. A graduate of Port Austin High School, she attended Sienna Heights College, received a Bachelor's Degree from Marygrove College and a Master's Degree in social work from Wayne State University. She was a resident of Hamtramck for many years. She was director of projects at Neighborhood Service Organization in Detroit until her retirement in 1973. She then returned to Port Austin, where she was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. She was an avid reader and she enjoyed classical music. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, Eldon and Jackie Yaroch, Dr. William Yaroch, Edwin and Jane Mayes, Raymond and Lynne Mayes, Venice Finan, Mark and Theresa Flannery, Betty Mayes and Sally Mayes. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Edwin, Albin, Rev. Fr. Carl Mayes, Clarence and infant Leo; three sisters Loretta Yaroch, Bertha Mayes and Helen Mayes. Visitation will be today from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde, and on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Sept. 18, 2000 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin with Rev. Michael J. Bell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A parish scripture service will be tonight at 7 at the funeral home. 1
