HURON DAILY TRIBUNE, Bad Axe, Michigan Local Obituaries Week of June 18, 2000 Dorothy Bond Dorothy Bond, 84, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Caseville, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, after a short illness. Her husband Robert preceded her in death. Survivors include her two sons, Nelson and his wife, Jackie, of Caseville, and Gail of Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren, Robin Watts and her husband, Brian, of Lake Orion, Todd Bond and his wife, Linda, of Pigeon, and Nelson Clayton Bond of Caseville; and four great- grandchildren. Cremation will be performed at her request. A private family memorial service will take place at a later date. Joseph Holt Joseph W. Holt, 97, of Harbor Beach passed away Thursday, June 22, 2000, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. Joseph was born on Dec. 11, 1902, in Lebanon, Ky., the son of the late George and Sarah Holt. Joseph and Helen Maikrzek were married on Nov. 28, 1928, in Detroit. She preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 1995. He was the former owner and operator of a grocery store in Litchfield. Joe was an avid bowler and fisherman who also enjoyed working in his yard and garden. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Harbor Beach. He also belonged to the Verona-Huron Masonic Lodge No. 365 F & AM. Joseph is survived by his niece, Mavis Plotkowski, of Shelby Township; and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2000, in the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach with the Rev. Clarence VanConant officiating. Burial will be in Our Lady of Lake Huron Cemetery of Harbor Beach. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Alvin Woolner Alvin Earl Woolner, 94, of Port Hope died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at the Harbor Beach Long Term Care Unit following a brief illness. He was born Oct. 18, 1905, in Colfax Township, son of the late Isaac and Martha (Nichols) Woolner. He and Jeanette McCachen were married Feb. 6, 1926, in Detroit. She preceded him in death on June 4, 1979. He then married Lorraine Glasgow on Oct. 4, 1980, in Bad Axe. Alvin was a member of and enjoyed attending the Bad Axe Church of the Nazarene. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida, working and visiting with family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine, of Port Hope; one daughter, Kathryn McTaggart and her husband, Harold, of Port Hope; two sons, Bernard Woolner and his wife, Donna, of Capac and James Woolner of Pontiac; 35 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; three great- great-grandchildren; five stepdaughters, Sara Wilson and Marie Isbister both of Bad Axe, Mary Jane Brown of Kentucky, Mary Jane Burnett of Missouri and Kathaleen Shannon of Pennsylvania; two stepsons, William Bardell and Samuel Glasgow both of Bad Axe; and a half-sister, Lillian Stafford of Ventura, Calif. He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Sara; an infant son, Clarence; three sons, Kenneth, Alvin, Jr. and Francis Woolner; five brothers, Frank, Roy, Robert, Milton and William Woolner; and two sisters, Jessie Smith and Ethel Livingston. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, June 10, 2000, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home Gage Chapel in Kinde. The Rev. Gordon Grossman, pastor of the Bad Axe Church of the Nazarene, officiated. Burial was in New River Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bad Axe Church of the Nazarene. Betty Doerr Betty L. Doerr, 72, of Cass City died Thursday, June 22, 2000, in Tendercare Nursing Facility, Cass City. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2000, at the Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City with the Rev. Gerald Meyer officiating. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery, Cass City. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation. Evelyn Pedigo Evelyn Marie Pedigo, 77, of Caseville died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. She was born Feb. 18, 1923, in Detroit, daughter of the late Osborne and Lela (Redmond) Wilson. She was united in marriage on March 19, 1940, to Richard A. Pedigo in Jamestown, Ky. He preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1999. They had been coming to the Caseville area since 1980 and moved here permanently in 1997 to be nearer to their children. She was past chaplain and a charter member of the Madison Heights Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, card playing and bingo. Surviving are her daughter, Gloria Beadle and her husband, Jeff, of Caseville; her son, Richard Pedigo of Madison Heights; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her sister, Jean Rahm of Florida. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville. The Rev. Seth Maust, pastor of River's Edge Church, Caseville, will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton. There will be an Eagle Auxiliary memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Isabell Kolberg Isabell Kolberg, 92, of Bad Axe and formerly of Harbor Beach, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 22, 2000, at the home of her daughter in Bad Axe following an extended illness. She was born on April 11, 1908, in Sigel Township, daughter of the late William and Agnes (Putzig) Jurgess. She married Walter Kolberg on Sept. 7, 1926, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Sigel Township. He preceded her in death on March 9, 1981. The Kolbergs moved to the Detroit area where Mrs. Kolberg worked as a domestic and then went on to work at the U.S. Rubber Co. for many years. In 1943, they bought a farm near Harbor Beach and later retired and moved to their home in Bad Axe in 1978. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe, where she was a member of the Lutheran Ladies Monday Morning Bible class, the Ladies Auxiliary and the Altar Guild. She loved visiting with family and friends, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included baking cookies, playing cards, decorating cakes, tending to her flower garden and knitting for her grandchildren and great- grandchildren, as well as doing crossword puzzles. She is survived by a daughter, Karen Karg and her husband, Kenneth, of Bad Axe; two grandchildren, Bonnie Mroczek and her husband, Dave, of Kentwood and Bob Karg of Sterling Heights; four great- grandchildren, Sarah and Amanda Mroczek of Kentwood and Jaimie and Brandon Karg of Sterling Heights; five sisters-in-law, Vesta Jurgess of Bad Axe, Helen Price and Mabel Iseler of Caro, Jewel Schray of Lansing and Syliva Kolberg of Birch Run; her godchild, Arlene Becking of Bad Axe; her special friend, Ruth Karg and her son, Randall, of Sterling Heights; her wonderful care giver of four years, Susie Wiesner of Harbor Beach; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Ackerman; and two brothers, Roy and Willard Jurgess. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2000, at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Officiating will be Mr. Ray Sting, lay minister at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. Burial will be in Rock Falls Cemetery in Harbor Beach. A scripture service will take place at 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, On Solid Ground, Our Daily Bread or Hospice. Earl Parks Earl W. Parks, 61, of Holly died Tuesday, June 20, 2000. Mr. Parks was born in Van Buren, Mo., on March 16, 1939, the son of Roy and Reba (Beaty) Parks. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was retired from General Motors Truck and Bus. He was a former member of the Silver Eagles of Clarkston and a member of United Auto Workers Local No. 594. Surviving are his wife, Shirley; three sons, Jeffrey Parks and his wife, Monique, of Waterford, James Parks and his wife, Anne, of Waterford, and Michael Parks of Holly; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Jeffrey, Brianna, Kyle, Rachal, Austin and Matthew; his mother, Reba Kuhl and her husband, Francis, of Mount Vernon, Ill.; a brother, David Parks of Mount Vernon; and a sister, Ava Thaker of Mount Vernon. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Parks; and two brothers, Doyle, in 1973, and Kenneth, in 1996. Funeral services and burial will be in Carlyle, Ill. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m Thursday at the Dryer Funeral Home in Holly. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association. Esther Volz Esther E. Volz, 72, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Sebewaing, died Monday evening, June 19, 2000, at the Florida Hospital in Kissimmee, Fla., following a lengthy illness. She was born April 9, 1928, in Auburn, daughter of the late Martin A. and Edna M. (Kuch) Ittner. She was united in marriage to Elmer E. Volz on June 22, 1957, in Frankentrost. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1998. She and her husband farmed in the Sebewaing area for many years until their retirement several years ago. She lived in Sebewaing until moving to Florida two years ago. Esther was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing and its Ladies Aid. She had been active in the former Sebewaing Actions Council and was an avid bowler. Surviving are one daughter, Elizabeth Molina and her husband, Brian, of Orlando, Fla.; one son, John Volz of Sebewaing; three grandchildren, Shannon Barry, and Cassandra and Zachary Molina; a sister and brother-in-law, Edna and Edward Meyer of Bay City; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Ittner; and a sister, Ruth Chapman. The funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. The Rev. Charles Kuhl will officiate with burial in the Silverlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. She will lie in state from 9 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the charity of the donor's choice. Roy Singleton Roy Singleton, 93, of Lake Worth, Fla., passed away on June 2, 2000, after a valiant fight with cancer. He was born to Martha and Joseph Singleton on March 16, 1907, in Caseville. He was raised on Charity Island where his father was the lighthouse keeper. Roy grew up in Michigan and Minnesota, moving to Florida in his later years for health reasons. He worked as a lumberjack, sailor and assistant lighthouse keeper and for the Michigan Highway Department. An avid hunter and fisherman, Roy found wonder in each day. His generally happy disposition was admired and often envied by his friends, relatives and acquaintances. Roy is survived by three daughters, numerous grandchildren, and a host of friends throughout Michigan, Maine and Florida. He was preceded in death by his wives, Layle Forrest Singleton and Ruth Tappen Singleton. A memorial service was conducted June 10, 2000, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Lantana, Fla., with the Rev. Ron Hugill officiating. Inurnment was in Evergreen Cemetery in Alpena. Memorials may be made to the Crisp Point Light Historical Society, P.O. Box 229, Paradise, MI 49768. Arrangements were handled by Dorsey Funeral Home in Lake Worth. Bruce Kuhl Bruce W. Kuhl, 64, of Sebewaing died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon following a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 10, 1935, in the home where he continued to live until his death in Fairhaven Township, son of the late Edward and Leah (Braun) Kuhl. He was united in marriage to Marian Nitz on Nov. 2, 1957, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bach. He was a dairy farmer of many years in the Sebewaing area before retiring in 1986. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He owned and operated the Blue Line Dairy in Sebewaing from 1964 to 1968. He also was an attendant at the former Dinkel Funeral Home and later the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing for 24 years before retiring due to ill health. He was a lifelong member of the Kilmanagh United Methodist Church, where he had served in various offices. He had served on the Huron County Board of Commissioners for 16 years and had served as board member and president of the Michigan Association of Counties from 1985 to 1991. He also served on the Human Development Commission, Huron County Health Department, Huron County Home Health Care, Thumb Area Consortium, Saginaw Bay Fishing Consortium and was past president and board member of the Huron County Farm Bureau. He also served on the Board of Trustees at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon and on the Board of Directors of Bay Shore Camp. Surviving are his wife, Marian; one daughter and three sons and their spouses, Becky Haag and her husband, Terry, Kevin Kuhl and his wife, Brenda, Warren Kuhl and his wife, Mary, all of Sebewaing, Tomas Kuhl and his fiancee, Krista King, of Bay Port; 11 grandchildren, Benjamin, Tara and Corey Haag, Michael, Justin, Aaron, Erik, Tyler, Travis, Trisha and TobyLee Kuhl; two step- grandchildren, Jeremy and Nicholas Haag; four sisters, three brothers and their spouses, Alberta Cagle of Taylor, Wilma Beyer of Flint, Doris Quick of Bay Port, Sylvia Wheeling and her husband, Douglas, of Waterford Township, Roland Kuhl and his wife, Isabelle, of Berkley, Lloyd Kuhl and his wife, Belva, and Willard Kuhl and his wife, Lorraine, all of Sebewaing; two brothers-in-law and their spouses, Denny Nitz and his wife, Betty, of AuGres and Kenny Nitz and his wife, Rovena, of Flint; his "adopted daughter," Cyndy Apley and her husband, Roger, and their five children, all of Filion; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernhardt and Harry Kuhl. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at the Kilmanagh United Methodist Church. The Rev. Alger T. Lewis will officiate with burial in the New Bay Port Cemetery in Bay Port. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. tonight and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. He will lie in state from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to Kilmanagh United Methodist Church, Bay Shore Camp or the charity of the donor's choice. Lawrence Neiger Lawrence A. Neiger, 91, of Caseville died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at the home of his son in Luther. He was born June 25, 1908, in Kenosha, Wisc., to the late Andrew and Emma (Nicklaus) Neiger. On June 24, 1933, he was united in marriage to Grace Rockentine at the United Church of Christ, Royal Oak. Mr. Neiger was the service manager at Gage Oldsmobile in Ferndale for 26 years, retiring in 1970. They had been coming to the Caseville area since 1965 and moved to their Lake Township home from Berkley in 1970, shortly after he retired. He was a member of the Caseville United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife of almost 67 years, Grace; two sons, David Neiger and his wife, Karen, of Luther and Richard Neiger and his wife, Tamara, of Unionville; five grandchildren, Lorie, Robert, James, Steven and Brian; and 13 great- grandchildren, Patti, Megan, Matthew, Tony, Amber, Abby, Jessie, Ben, Matthew, Michael, Taylor, Bailey and Dylan. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2000, at the Caseville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Michael Quayle, pastor, will officiate with burial of Mr. Neiger's cremains in the Caseville Township Cemetery. Visitation will be after noon Saturday at the church. Memorials may be given to Hospice. Hazel Stone Hazel Emma Stone, 89, of Bad Axe died Sunday morning, June 18, 2000, at Huron Memorial Hospital of Bad Axe. Hazel was born Sept. 18, 1910, in Bad Axe, daughter of the late William and Edith (Schram) Baslock. She married Pleasant Stone of Bad Axe and he preceded her in death in 1970. She enjoyed attending the First Missionary Church of Bad Axe. Hazel also loved to cook, play bingo, garden and spend time with her great- grandchildren. Hazel is survived by one son, Robert Stone and his wife, Lila, of Bad Axe; two grandchildren, Linda Engler and her husband, Eric, of Cass City, and Randy Stone and his wife, Lori, of Bad Axe; five great-grandchildren, Shaun Engler, Aaron Engler, Shannon Stone, Caitlin Stone and Randilyn Stone; and one sister, Sally Byarski of Bad Axe. She was preceded in death by one sister, Flossie Roberts; and four brothers, Hank, Gordon, Cecil and Roy Baslock. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home of Bad Axe. The Rev. Anthony Ferriell of the First Missionary Church of Bad Axe will officiate. Burial will be in the Colfax Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family. Loretta Miller Loretta J. Miller, 57, of Detroit died unexpectedly Saturday, June 17, 2000, at Henry Ford Hospital in Dearborn. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City with the Rev. Paul Bala of St. Pancratius Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Thumb Area Dialysis Center or the American Cancer Society. Lyle Faber Lyle N. Faber, 85, of Sebewaing died Thursday evening, June 15, 2000 at Hills and Dales General Hospital in Cass City following a three and a half year illness. He was born June 25, 1914 in Sebewaing Township, son of the late Theodore E. and Jessie (Dutcher) Faber. He was united in marriage to Edna Alice Fritz on April 13, 1939 in Detroit. She preceded him in death on Feb. 13, 1997. Lyle had been a farmer in the Sebewaing area for many years before retiring in 1980. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed building clocks. He also was a mechanic and plumber. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bach where he held various offices. Surviving are one son, four daughters and their spouses, Harley and Rose Faber, Rose and Duane Naffien, all of Sebewaing; Jean and Arthur Fisher of Cass City, Joyce Canole of Saginaw, Karen and Donald Weisenbach Sr. of Owendale; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two brothers; one sister and spouses, Robert Faber of Venice Fla.; Roy and Irene Faber of Gladwin, Rose Mornac of Albuquerque NM.; one sister-in-law, Arlene Faber of Sebewaing; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one infant daughter Shirley; one great-grandson, Scott Allen Fisher, one grandson, Brent Fisher; three sisters, infant Lola, infant Irva, DeWilda Schulz; three brothers, Theodore and Otto Faber, both killed during World War II, and Leonard Faber. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday June 19, 2000 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bach, Rev. Ernest C. Wendt will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. He will lie in state at the church from 9:30 a.m. Monday until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to the St. Peter Lutheran Church or the charity of the donor's choice. Clark Zinnecker Clark F. Zinnecker, 87, of Cass City, died peacefully in his sleep Saturday, June 17, 2000 at his son's home in Deford. He was born July 3, 1912 in Cass City to William and Lillian (Wallace) Zinnecker. He married Hazel S. Pringle on Sept. 1, 1938 in Detroit. Clark was a farmer. He also worked at Detroit Diesel in Detroit, the hardware and lumber yard in Deford, and Forbes Redi-Mix and Lumber in Caro. He retired from the Caro State Hospital in Wahjamega after 10 years. Clark and Hazel lived in Sorrento, Fla. from 1979 to 1995, and in Haselton Village, Eustis, Fla. from 1995 to 1999. Clark was a member of Novesta Church of Christ and then First Church of Christ in Eustis. Clark is survived by his wife, Hazel; sons, Grant and his wife, Donna, of Wilson, Wyo., and Ralph and his wife, Patricia, of Deford; granddaughters, Melissa Newland and her husband, Greg, of Caro, and Karla Zinnecker of Saginaw; sisters-in-law, Helen Zinnecker of Fremont, and Iva Field of Deford; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Wallace, Carl and Park Zinnecker. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2000 at Novesta Church of Christ, with Steve Randall of Harris Prairie Church of Christ, South Bend, Ind., officiating. Interment is in Novesta Township Cemetery, Cass City. Pallbearers for Mr. Zinnecker will be his family. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, and 2 to 5 p.m., and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. 1
