Hessling, 83, of Sherman Township near Helena, passed away Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. Elmer was born on March 30, 1917, in Sherman Township, son of the late Henry and Adelaide (Terbrack) Hessling. He married Leona Geiger on Aug. 6, 1941, in St. Anthony's Church in Helena, and together they farmed in Sherman Township. She preceded him in death on June 2, 1975. He also married Ernestine Wolschlager Volmering on May 16, 1992, in Helena, and she preceded him in death on July 2, 1999. Elmer was an active member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, being on the parish council and helping to build the school. He was a member of the Men's Club and was an usher. He was also an active member of the township, having been a former Sherman Township supervisor and treasurer. He also measured wheat for the ASCS office, and he was a former employee of the Booms Silo Co. He enjoyed farming, gardening, hunting and fishing and a good game of cards. Surviving are his children, Austin Hessling and his wife, Jean, of Caro, Donna Klama and her husband, Cass, of Parisville, Richard Hessling and his wife, Nancy, of Harbor Beach, Warren Hessling and his wife, Sharon, of Sterling Heights, Mark Hessling of China Township, James Hessling and his wife, Charlotte, of Parisville, Kevin Hessling and his wife, Louise, of Harbor Beach, Bridget Brown and her husband, Doug, of Lexington, Ky., and Steve Hessling of Beacon, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Booms of Bad Axe and Kathleen Peruski of Ruth; many nieces and nephews. Elmer was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Learman and infant Florence Hessling; and a grandson, Eric Hessling. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena with the Rev. Charlie Hammond, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A Men's Club Rosary will be at 8 p.m. today and a parish vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Monday, both at the Ramsey Funeral Home, a Golden Rule Funeral Home, in Harbor Beach. Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today, 1 to 9 p.m. Monday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Irma Obee Miss Irma Obee, 90, of Minden City died Friday evening, Nov. 17, 2000, at the Talaski Adult Foster Care Home in Rapson. She was born on May 3, 1910, in Minden City, daughter of the late Frank and Lucy (Swartz) Obee. She never married. She attended Minden City Elementary School and Harbor Beach High School. She worked with her family on the farm in Minden City. She is survived by her sister, Genevieve Ceseski of Harbor Beach; two brothers, Harry Obee and his wife, Irene, of Palms and Eugene Obee of Grand Rapids; a few nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Victor Obee and one sister, Eleanor Stokus. Funeral services will be at 5 p.m. today at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. The Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Parisville, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Parisville. Visitation is from 12:30 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Nancy Stambaugh Nancy Lynn Stambaugh, 55, of Bad Axe died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at her home. She was born on Jan. 19, 1945, in Bad Axe, the daughter of the late Donald and Eleanor (Kinney) Near. On June 18, 1966, Nancy and Gary Stambaugh were married. Nancy attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Bad Axe. She was also a 4-H leader for more than 15 years and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She was employed at Hills & Dales General Hospital as a ward secretary for several years. She is survived by her husband, Gary; three daughters, Gina Woehlert and her husband, John, of Algonac, Jill Burk and her husband, Bryan, of Ubly, Julie Osentoski and her husband, Paul, of Ubly; 13 grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Brown and her husband, Michael, of Ubly and Patty Boland and her husband, John, of Cass City; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe with the Rev. Elsa Pressentin of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Bad Axe officiating. John Vollmer John Albert Vollmer, 80, of Pigeon passed away in his sleep at home on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, after prolonged heart problems. He was born on July 19, 1920, in Linkville. He was the son of the late David and Mary (Wolfram) Vollmer. On Aug. 20, 1955, he was united in marriage to Gloria June Larrucea at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon. She preceded him in death in 1971. Mr. Vollmer was a United States Army veteran, having served in the infantry during World War II. After the war, he eventually established his own business, Vollmer Sand & Gravel. He enjoyed the outdoors and liked to hunt. He was very mechanically inclined and enjoyed building and fixing things. Mr. Vollmer was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather to his family. He is survived by his children, John Vollmer of Clinton Township, Debra Fritsch and her husband, James, of Berkley, Kathleen Braman and her husband, Tawn, of Bay City, and Corey Vollmer of Ludington; four grandchildren, Zachary and Elizabeth Fritsch and Farran and Morgan Braman; a brother, David Vollmer and his wife, Audrey; two sisters, Helen Nimtz and her husband, Wilmer and Dorothy Gruehn; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Arthur Vollmer; three half-brothers, Carl, Ray and Alfred Vollmer; two half-sisters, Margaret Schmidt and Mary Hinton. Ayotte, 80, of Harbor Beach, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, in the long-term-care unit of Harbor Beach Community Hospital following an extended illness. She was born in Harbor Beach on Oct. 14, 1920, the daughter of the late Samuel and Margaret (McCullough) Wilson. She and John Ayotte were married on Jan. 14, 1944, in Bad Axe. Alberta was a former member of the First Baptist Churches in Port Huron and Harbor Beach. She is survived by her husband, John Ayotte of Harbor Beach; children, Willard John Ayotte and his wife, Barbara, of Clarkston, Gary Ayotte and his wife, Wendy, of Bad Axe, Leslie Buckingham and her husband, Tom, of North Street and Jeff Ayotte and his wife, Terry, of Gwinn; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Esther O'Connor, Peg Veldman and Ida Mae Cregeur, all of Harbor Beach; two sisters-in-law, Alberta Chapin of Bad Axe and Rose Ayotte of Port Huron; several nieces and nephews. Alberta was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Ayotte; sister, Betty Eernesse; and a brother, William Wilson. Louis Barry Louis Richard Barry, 79, of Elkton died Sunday morning, Nov. 19, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. He was born on Sept. 11, 1921, at the home of his parents, the late Thomas and Lucy (Bursick) Barry in Oliver Township. On June 9, 1951, Louis was united in marriage to Arlene Smith at St. Francis Catholic Church in Pigeon. She preceded him in death on Jan. 17, 1996. On Nov. 22, 1986, he was united in marriage to Mina (Brown) Lilley in North Branch. He was a farmer in Oliver Township all of his life and was still farming through this summer. He owned and operated Huron Wood Products in Elkton from 1973 to 1994. He was in the United States Army, serving in Europe during World War II. After returning from the war, he attended and graduated from agricultural college. He was member of St. Felix Catholic Church and the Carpenter Dorsch VFW Post in Elkton. Louis loved hunting pheasants, traveling and visiting with friends and his family. Surviving are his wife, Mina; two sons, Thomas Barry and his wife, Margo, of Elkton and John Barry and his wife, Gwynne, of Pigeon; seven daughters, Jane Christner and her husband, Rodney, of Elkton, Patty Schulze and her husband, Steve, of Pigeon, Shelia Leitch and her husband, James, of Elkton, Kay Tait and her husband, John, of Kinde, Colleen Braun and her husband, Ed, of Elkton, Shivaun Forster and her husband, Kurt, of Pigeon, and Jackie Schulz and her husband, Don, of Pigeon; three step-sons, Dave Lilley and his wife, Connie, Steve Lilley and his wife, Kathy, all of North Branch, and Bruce Lilley and his wife, Cindy, of Imlay City; 26 grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; one brother, Eugene Barry of Elkton; six sisters, Marge Heckman and Alice Krohn of Pigeon, Helene Kumaus of Saginaw, Marion Lane of Roseville, Anna Mae Lee of Oscoda and Virginia Plevina and her husband, Ed, of Bad Axe. Kolar, 94, of Ubly died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. She was born May 29, 1906, in Ashland, Wisc., daughter of the late John and Rosa (Schmidt) Hund, Sr. Miss Hund married Albert Kolar on Nov. 18, 1933, in St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Freiburg. He preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 1973. Miss Mary Hund was a graduate of Ubly High School, graduated from County Normal Teachers College and graduated from St. Agnes School of Nursing in Fond du Lac, Wisc., as a registered nurse. She was a country school teacher in Sanilac County from 1948 to 1963. She lived in Pontiac from 1963 to 1969. Mrs. Mary Kolar returned to Greenleaf Township to farm with her husband and live with her family. She moved to Haslett in 1997 and lived there until her death. She was a former member of St. Ignatius Parish and its Altar Society. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Ubly and a former member of its Christian Mothers Confraternity. She was a life member of the Daughters of Isabella, Fidelis Regina Circle No. 608, Bad Axe. She was a member of the retired teachers union and enjoyed get-together meetings and parties. Mrs. Mary Kolar is survived by her daughter, Diane Grytza and her husband, Henry, of Granger, Ind.; and three sons, James Kolar and his wife, Joanne, of Houghton Lake, Carl Kolar and his wife, Doris, of Sterling Heights, and Ronald Kolar and his wife, Sue, of Haslett; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one sister, Clara Peters and her husband, Roy, of Ubly; and two brothers, Francis Hund and his wife, Opal, of Ubly and Philip Hund and his wife, Lillian, of Rochester. She was preceded in death by one sister, Cecilia Cook; and three brothers, Henry, Jacob and John Hund. Hall, 79, of Eastpointe died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at his home. Mr. Hall was born Sept. 18, 1921, in Tyre. He retired in 1988 from J.B. Rath in Sterling Heights. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Leo the XIII, St. Basil Usher's Club of Eastpointe, seniors club and Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed golf, bowling and gardening, and he was a handyman extraordinaire. Mr. Hall served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946 and was a member of the Catholic War Veterans. He is survived by his wife, Frances; sons William Hall Jr., and his wife, Mary, Patrick Hall and his wife, Lynn, Dennis Hall, and his wife, Margaret; daughters Deborah Shaw and her husband, Larry, Marsha Jenkins and her husband, Jim, and Marilynn Fattore and her husband, Robert; 17 grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren; two brothers Michael and Patrick Hall; and one sister, Reta Hall. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Sean Hall. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at the St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, 22851 Lexington, in Eastpointe. There will be a rosary service by Knights of Columbus at 7 p.m. Friday at the S.K. Schultz Funeral Home, 21705 Gratiot, in Eastpointe. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. He will lie in state at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Saturday. Anthony Wintergerst Anthony "Tony" Wintergerst, 80, of Bad Axe died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at his home. Tony was born on June 19, 1920, in a log cabin in Lincoln Township, son of Adam and Grace (Holzhofer) Wintergerst. He attended rural school in Lincoln Township and farmed with his father. He joined the United States Army in March of 1942, serving in Europe in the "Battle of the Bulge" with the 705 and 601 Tank Destroyer Battalion. He was discharged in October 1945, receiving a Purple Heart medal. Tony Wintergerst and Miss Roxie E. Barton were united in marriage on Nov. 4, 1950, at the First United Methodist Church in Bad Axe. She preceded him in death on Feb. 8, 1978. On Sept. 1, 1979, Tony was united in marriage to Violet McKulsky at the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church. Tony enjoyed visiting his wife at the Huron County Medical Care Facility, being with family and friends, fishing, and bowling. He was employed at Smith Distributors in Bad Axe until he retired in 1983. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Caseville, Caseville Retirement Club, and Associate Member of the Michigan Sheriff's Association, Educational Services. Surviving is his wife, Violet; one daughter, Connie Zahm and her husband, Robert, of Bad Axe; one son, William Wintergerst and special friend, Jamie Doran; one granddaughter, Andrea Zahm of Marquette; three grandsons, Nicholas Wintergerst of Southgate, Richard Wintergerst of Ypsilanti and David Little of Garden City; and Jamie Doran's children, Pat, David, and Chrissy; one step-daughter, Sharon Ellis and her husband, Jim, of Bad Axe; two step- sons, Edward McKulsky of Virginia, and William McKulsky and wife, Deanna, of Hale.; nine step- grandchildren; and 14 step-great-grandchildren. Tony was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Stephen Wintergerst and two infant brothers. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Jan Dykshroorn will officiate. Memorials may be offered to the Huron County Medical Facility or Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church. Friday, November 24, 2000 Wilbert Eisinger Wilbert H. Eisinger, 57, of Elkton passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe following an extended illness. He was born on Sept. 25, 1943, in Marquette, the son of the late Wilbert B. and Carabell (Smith) Eisinger. He married Judy Dubs on Aug. 6, 1966, in Owendale. Mr. Eisinger was employed at Active Industries in Elkton for 15 years. He was also the owner of Montgomery Ward Catalog Sales in Bad Axe for two years. He drove a bus for Thumb Area Transit for 15 years. Wilbert was a member of the Owendale Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Pigeon VFW. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was an avid hunter and camper and had a special adoring bond with his grandson, Jalen. He is survived by his wife, Judy Eisinger of Elkton; daughter Marcy Eisinger of Detroit; son Joel Eisinger of Chico, Calif.; grandson Jalen Spates of Detroit; mother, Carrie Eisinger of Bad Axe; four brothers, James Eisinger and his wife, Dorothy, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Richard Eisinger and his wife, Dessalee, of Bad Axe, William Eisinger and his wife, Joan, of Filion and David Eisinger of Florida; five sisters, Ann Hubbard of Port Huron, Margaret Baslock and her husband, Richard, of Ferndale; Mary Jane Martinez of Bad Axe, Bev Bruce of Bad Axe and Barbara Haag of Cass City; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Eisinger. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Paul, 94, of Pigeon passed away on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at the Scheurer Hospital Long- Term Care Unit in Pigeon following a long illness. She was born in Pigeon on March 18, 1906, the daughter of the late Jacob and Lydia (Faist) Haist. On Aug. 18, 1934, she was united in marriage to John E. "Jack" Paul in Pigeon. He preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1953. She graduated from Pigeon High School and Huron County Normal. She also took classes at Eastern Ypsilanti Normal College and Central Normal College in Mount Pleasant. She taught school in Huron County rural schools as well as at Gerrish Higgins School in Roscommon County. Mrs. Paul was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Pigeon. She is survived by her son, J. Kent Paul and his wife, Elaine of Bad Axe; three grandchildren, Michael John Paul of Norfolk, Va., Carrie Lynn Walsh and her husband, Rodney, of Bad Axe and Brian Kent Paul of Holland; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Emma; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at the First United Methodist Church in Pigeon with the Rev. Karen L. Knight, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Lawn Cemetery in Winsor Township. Elva Schulz Elva Marie Schulz, 71, of Sheridan Township died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born on Dec. 19, 1929, on the family farm in Sheridan Township. She was the daughter of the late Ogle Haskett and Hazel (Martin) Blair. Elva Marie Blair and Vernon Schulz were married on Aug. 23, 1952, at the Grant Methodist Church in Grant Township. Elva M. was a 1948 graduate of Bad Axe High School and a 1968 graduate of Central Michigan University with a bachelor's degree in education. She taught in the Huron County area for more than 32 years. She enjoyed driving tractors, the outdoors and gardening. She is survived by her husband, Vernon; one son, Dennis Schulz of Bad Axe; one sister, Elizabeth St. Clair of Adrian, two brothers, John Blair and his wife, Grace, of Bad Axe and Coulson Blair and his wife, Betty, of Fairgrove; one granddaughter, Kali Mc. Schulz; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe with the Rev. Schlemmer, 101, of Unionville passed away on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. She was born in Caro on May 25, 1899, the daughter of the late Rudolph and Charlotte (Santowsky) Witkovsky. She was married to Walter C. Keller in Detroit on Jan. 30, 1924. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1965. She was united in marriage to Aaron J. Schlemmer in Sebewaing on Jan. 17, 1970. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1978. Mrs. Schlemmer was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing, where she sang in the choir for many years. She was a member of the Friday Bible class since Jan. 19, 1967, and was also a member of the Lutheran Women Missionary League. She is survived by four cousins, Marilyn Scheller and her husband, Ed, of Eastpointe, Lois Geppert and her husband, Gerald, of Port Austin, Doris Marcott and her husband, Arthur, of Gaylord and Duane Witkovsky of Caro. The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing, with the Rev. Charles Kuhl officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Teper, 75, of Warren, and formerly of Port Austin, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. She is survived by her husband, Edward; sons, Ken Teper and his wife, Margo, Joe Teper and his wife, Cathy, Ron Teper and his wife, Tina; daughters, Karen Guitar and her husband, Allen and Jane Plumer and her husband, Roger; 10 grandchildren. Genevieve Winkel Genevieve R. Winkel, 85, of Harbor Beach passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, in the long-term care unit of Harbor Beach Community Hospital. She was born in Harbor Beach on July 26, 1915, the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Gusa) Siemen. She and Irving Winkel were married on Nov. 21, 1935, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena. Together they farmed in Sand Beach Township. Genevieve enjoyed gardening, cooking and doing crafts. She was a member of St. Anthony's Church and the Altar Society and the Daughters of Isabella. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Irving Winkel of Harbor Beach; children, Shirley Braun and her husband, Earl, of Port Hope, Melvin Winkel and his wife, Joyce, of Perris, Calif., Ilene Parish and her husband, Robert, of Harbor Beach, Robert Winkel and his wife, Jean, of Harbor Beach, and Gerald Winkel and his wife, Evelyn, of Bad Axe; 25 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Nowicki and her husband, Norman, of Harbor Beach, and Clara Laban and her husband, John, of Detroit; three brothers, Charles Siemen and his wife, Norma, of Hartland, Robert Siemen and his wife, Geraldine, of Harbor Beach, and Harry Siemen and his wife, Pat, of Harbor Beach. Genevieve was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Janet Braun and Bruce Parrish; two sisters, Stella Siemen and Marie Geiger; two brothers, Bernard Siemen and Leonard Siemen. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. Charlie Hammond, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A parish vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. and a Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be at 8:30 p.m. tonight, both at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach.
