"Bill" Bursick, 92, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Kinde, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at Shore Acres Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in St. Petersburg. Born in Elkton, he moved to St. Petersburg in 1954 from Kinde. He was an ice cream and butter maker, owning his own business in Michigan. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, St. Petersburg. Survivors include a brother, Cletus Bursick; a sister-in- law, Mary Bursick, both of Bad Axe; several nieces and nephews; and many friends in Kinde. Anderson McQueen Funeral Homes and Cremation Tribute Center-Ninth Street Chapel in St. Petersburg handled funeral arrangements. Walter Ewald Walter F. Ewald, 88, of Elkton died this morning, Oct. 27, 2000, at Courtney Manor, Bad Axe. He was born Oct. 5, 1912, in Oliver Township at the home of his parents, the late Otto and Rosa (Kaercher) Ewald. On June 28, 1941, he was united in marriage to Anna Mae Hedley at her parent's home in Chandler Township. Mr. Ewald lived and farmed in Oliver Township much of his life, moving into Elkton in 1967. He also worked at Pigeon Manufacturing for over 20 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member and long-time usher of the Elkton United Methodist Church. During his retirement years, he spent much of his time on the golf course or upstairs at the civic center playing pool with his friends. He also enjoyed making woodcrafts. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Anna Mae; his daughter, LanaJo Chase and her husband, Jay, of Lapeer; and two sisters, Leona Fritz and her husband, Leonard, of Elkton and Maida Fuller and her husband, Gerald, of Sebewaing. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Arnold and Milford; and a sister, Dorothy Ewald. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at the Elkton United Methodist Church. The Rev. Pete Crawford, pastor, will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton. Visitation will be 1 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton, and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Memorials may be given to the church. Leota Zywicki Leota M. Zywicki, 70, of Caseville died Thursday afternoon, Oct. 26, 2000, at Huron Memorial Hospital, Bad Axe. She was born June 2, 1930, in Jackson to Marietta (Billings) Schebergen and the late William Schebergen. Mrs. Zywicki began coming to Lake Township in 1970 and moved here permanently with her husband, Benny Zywicki, in 1980. He preceded her in death in October 1985. She was a member of the Caseville Eagles Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary in Auburn Hills and the Ladies of the Moose in Caro. Her love of playing cards was a big part of her retirement years. She also enjoyed fishing on Saginaw Bay. Surviving are two sons, Rod Rodman and his wife, Mary, of Bowie, Md., and Jeff Kaechele of Pinnebog; three grandchildren, Charisma, Merrill, Jr., and Arabella; her mother, Marietta Schebergen; her brother, William Schebergen of Shelbyville; and three sisters, Betty Tein and her husband, William, of Martin, Karen Ringnalda and her husband, Wilbur, of Byron Center, and Judy Wheeler and her husband, Ron, of Shelbyville. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Travis M. Kaechele. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, with an Eagles service to follow at Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday and noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Steve Franzel Mr. Steve Franzel, 73, of Ubly died Thursday evening, Oct. 26, 2000, at Huron Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are being handled by the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home of Ubly. Gerda Witherspoon Gerda E. Witherspoon, 75, of Port Hope passed away Thursday evening, Oct. 26, 2000, in Courtney Manor in Bad Axe following a short illness. Funeral services will take place at noon Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, in St. John Lutheran Church, Port Hope, with burial in the Rock Falls Cemetery, Harbor Beach. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach. A complete obituary will appear in Sunday's Huron Daily Tribune. Elsie Jahr Elsie V. Jahr, 89, of Sebewaing died Wednesday evening, Oct. 25, 2000, at Tendercare of Cass City following a lengthy illness. She was born Aug. 16, 1911, in Unionville, daughter of the late Theodore and Emma (Faber) Bolzman. She was united in marriage to Arthur J. Jahr on April 29, 1934, in Unionville. He preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1986. Elsie was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. She enjoyed making rag rugs, crocheting, sewing and especially loved playing with her grandchildren. Surviving are one daughter, Lorna Perket and her husband, Ward; one son, Donald Jahr and his wife, Mary, all of Sebewaing; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandsons; 19 great- grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Verna Bolzman; and three brothers, infant Victor Frederick, Victor Frederick and Nelson Bolzman. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Charles Kuhl will officiate with burial in the Northlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 tonight, noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing, and from 1 p.m. until the time of services Sunday at the church. Verna Johnson Verna Mary Johnson, 87, of Port Austin, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at Huron Memorial Hospital, Bad Axe. She was born Jan. 25, 1913, in Poland, coming to the United States in 1914. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Bernice (Sygenda) Radomski. Miss Verna Radomski and Mr. Rollie Johnson Sr., of Romeo, were united in marriage on Feb. 13, 1931. Mr. Johnson preceded his wife in death in March 1976. She raised her family in Detroit before moving to the Thumb area in 1977. Verna was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing, fishing, pinochle, canning and cooking. Surviving are two daughters, Winifred Jackson of Port Austin and Madeline Terry and her husband, Herbert, of Standish; two sons, Rollie Johnson and his wife, Marion, of Warren and Edward Johnson and his wife, Bernice, of Southgate; one sister, Mary Audia of Eastpointe; two brothers, Joseph Radomski and his wife, Helen, of Filion and Steve Radomski and his wife, Mary, of East China Township; her loving companion Felix Masa; 13 grandchildren, Rick, Debbie, Barbara, Charlie, Bernice, Tom, Winnie, Jacqueline, John, James, Sherry, Rollie and Amy; 19 great- grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rollie; sons Stanley and Leonard Johnson; son-in-law Jack Jackson; sisters Bernice Porzondek and Helen Michalek; brothers Stanley, William and John Radomski; and one brother-in-law, Joseph Audia. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. Fr. Michael Bell will officiate. Burial will be in Romeo Cemetery. A scripture service will take place at 7 p.m. Sunday at MacAlpine Funeral Home-Gage Chapel, Kinde. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or the charity of the donor's choice. Walter McNeil Walter E. McNeil, 85, of Bad Axe died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at his home. Miss June Williams and Walter McNeil were united in marriage on July 23, 1938. June preceded Walter in death in 1988. They were lifelong residents of Huron County. Walter was employed by Active Industries, Inc., drove a milk truck and farmed. He was a member and elder of the Victory in Christ Church. He liked to hunt, fish and be around his family and friends. Surviving are four sons, Raymond McNeil and his wife, Sharon, of Moyock, N.C., Gary McNeil of Filion, Joe McNeil of Wayne, and Walter McNeil and his wife, Linda, of Reidsville, N.C.; two daughters, Catherine Bletl and her husband, Gerald, of Bad Axe, and Cynthia Vanhouten and her husband, Walter, of Sebewaing; 26 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; his companion, Virginia Bucholtz; and a sister, Ellen Boerner of Nederland, Texas. Walter was preceded in death by his wife, June; four daughters, Barbara Wilson, Violet Landenberg, Dolores McNeil and Marie Wolschlager; one daughter-in-law, Debra McNeil; sisters Mamie Follis, Susie Rogusta, Rosie Norcross and Margaret VanDam; a great-granddaughter, Sue Ann Little; and brothers Joseph, Leonard, Harold and Ernie McNeil. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Victory in Christ Church, Bad Axe, with the Rev. Stewart Justin officiating. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today at MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe, and 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or Huron Memorial Hospice. Ervin Armstead Ervin Armstead, 59, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, after a long battle with cancer. He was born May 17, 1941, in Cass City. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Loretta Armstead of Jacksonville, Fla.; children Ervin Armstead and his wife, Nancy, of Jacksonville, Fla., Diana Trupiano and her husband, Lorne, and Heidi Dines of Redford, David Armstead and his wife, Tiffany, Kelly Shaneyfelt, and Laura Titus and her husband, David, of Jacksonville, Fla.; three brothers, Leroy Armstead and his wife, Carol, of Northville, Vern Armstead and his wife, Florence, of Clarkston, and Rod Armstead and his wife, Pam, of Ontario, Ohio; one sister, Ellen Iseler and her husband, Jerry,of Massachusetts; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lydia (Walrod) and Roy Armstead. Mr. Armstead was laid to rest at Jacksonville Memory Gardens in Jacksonville, Fla. Anita Bruderick Anita J. Bruderick, 58, of Minden City died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital, Saginaw, of injuries from a car accident. She was born April 11, 1942, in Deckerville, the daughter of Leslie and Helen (Washe) Grice. She married James Bruderick on Nov. 7, 1959, in Palms. She was editor of the Lakeshore Guardian, a member of the Sanilac Mental Health Board, Blossoming Rose Committee and Horseback Riding for the Handicapped. She is survived by her husband, James, of Minden City; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Dean Bruderick and his wife, Denise, of Marlette, Richard Bruderick and his wife, Colleen, of Lake Orion, Mark Bruderick and his wife, Dawn, of Clarkston, Clark Bruderick of Deckerville, and Keith Bruderick of Lake Orion; one daughter, Jackie Bruderick of Chicago; 12 grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Grice of Oscoda, Jack Grice of Janesville, Wisc., and Richard Grice of Ada; one sister, Mrs. Kay Zimmerman of Lake Havasu, Ariz., and her mother, Helen Thompson of Deckerville. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at Faith Gospel Tabernacle, Bad Axe. The Rev. Michael Becker will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Palms. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. today in the Apsey Funeral Home, Deckerville. Gary Miller Gary C. Miller, 12, of Elkton died Sunday afternoon, Oct. 22, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw, from injuries sustained last Thursday afternoon in a car-bicycle accident. He was born Dec. 6, 1987, to Gary and Theresa (Bouverette) Miller on Scheurer Hospital, the youngest of four sons. Gary was in seventh grade at Laker Junior High School. He loved farming and helping his dad. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as well. Gary was a very caring young man, always willing to give and share what he had. He continued to give even in death by gifting his organs so others might live. Surviving are his parents, Gary and Theresa Miller; three brothers, Jesse, Corey and Richard Miller, all of Elkton; his paternal grandparents, Ronald and Bonnie Miller of Elkton; his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Bouverette of Bad Axe; his paternal great-grandmother, Martha Miller of Lansing; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at the Elkton United Methodist Church. The Rev. Pete Crawford, pastor, will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton. Buehler, 80, of Bad Axe, died Friday Oct. 20, 2000 at Sunny Acres Nursing Center in Bad Axe. She was born Sept. 28, 1920 in Bad Axe, the daughter of Arthur and Edna (Asher) Snider. Jean was a graduate of Bad Axe High School, class of 1938. On Nov. 18, 1945, Miss Jean Snider married Elmer C. Buehler. They were life long residents of Bad Axe. Mr. Buehler preceded her in death in 1990. Jean was employed by Dr. Donald Bernthal, O.D., Glass Fashions and Norman's. She also volunteered as a Grey Lady who visited the sick and elderly. She taught ceramics in her home and enjoyed oil painting, china painting, sewing, crocheting, golf and square dancing. Surviving is one son, Dr. Douglas Buehler, O.D. and his wife, Rhonda, of Pigeon; one daughter, Boni Carpenter of Bad Axe; one brother, Kenneth Snider and his wife, Betty, of Old Mission; one sister, Ethel Hicks and her husband, Barney of Honolulu, Hawaii; six grandchildren, Matthew Buehler, Garrett Buehler, Mindy Carpenter, Chad and his wife, Jen Carpenter, Pam Carpenter and Josh Carpenter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Buehler; two sisters, Irma Harbin and Harriet Wright. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. today at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. Ray Sting, lay minister, will officiate. Visitation will be at the MacAlpine Funeral Home, Bad Axe from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church Building Fund or to the Alzheimer's Association. 1
