Cole Gordon M. Cole, 67, of Hastings, and former resident of Bad Axe, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Carveth Village in Middleville. Mr. Cole was born Aug. 4, 1933, in Ellis, Kansas, son of the late Floyd and Delfine (Meserve) Cole. He and Helen M. Bartanen were united in marriage Oct. 16, 1954, in Guam. He graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1951. He served in the United States Navy, being stationed in San Diego and Guam. He was a graduate of Western Michigan University, earning his bachelor's and master's degrees in education. Mr. Cole moved to Hastings in 1959 from Kalamazoo and was employed in the Hastings Area Schools system for 32 years as a teacher, administrator, counselor and coach. He retired in 1991. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Hastings Elks Club, Moose Lodge, Kiwanis Club and the Hastings Country Club. He enjoyed visiting with his family and friends, golfing and travel. Surviving are his wife, Helen; three sons, Greg D. Cole and his special friend, Marcia Hinkel of Temperance; Douglas J. Cole of Holland; Joseph D. Cole and his special friend Kim Croner of Kentwood; two grandchildren, Julie L. Cole and David G. Cole of Hastings; one brother, David Cole and his wife, Rosemary, of Cheshire, Connecticut; eight nieces and nephews; one step-sister, Suzanne Seymour and her husband, Bartholomew, of Grosse Pointe; two step-brothers, Philip J. Capling and his wife, Faith, of Brighton, and Peter B. Capling and his wife, Sue, of Bad Axe. He was preceded in death by one sister, Gloria Hoffman; one half-sister, Mary Lucy Cole; and one-step sister, Mary Ellen Brewster. Funeral services were conducted at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at the Hastings Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev. Michael J. Anton officiated. Burial took place at Riverside Cemetery in Hastings. Agnes Thompson Agnes J. Thompson, 97, of Hume Township died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at Sunny Acres Nursing Center. She was born on June 9, 1903, in Meade Township, daughter of the late Louis and Josephine (Champagne) Mousseau. Agnes married Clayton Lester Thompson on Nov. 25, 1925, at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Kinde. He preceded her in death on July 15, 1972. Agnes enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing music and spending time with her family and dog, Schantze. She was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church, where she belonged to the Altar Society and the church choir. She was employed at Wagners Drug Store and the elevator in Kinde. Surviving are her son, Dale Thompson of Port Austin and his special friend, Joni Doyl; her daughter, Shirley Butch of Kinde; three grandchildren, Beverly Maul and her husband, George, of Kinde, Barbara Kanaski and her husband, Steven, of Filion, and Dennis Butch and his wife, Sharon, of Cleveland; six great-grandchildren, Corey, Kelley, Kayla and Kimberlyn Kanaski and Jessica and Jacob Butch; three sisters, Gertrude Trompics of Bad Axe, Mary Steinitz of Caseville and Genevieve O'Neil of Port Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton; one son, Jerome Thompson; four brothers, Lawrence, Nelson, Peter and Willard Mousseau; two sisters, Anastasia Ney and Amelia Meagher. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at St. Felix Catholic Church in Chandler Township. The Rev. Fr. Dennis Kucharczyk will officiate, assisted by Sister Mary Schwartz, pastor-administrator, with burial following in the church cemetery. A parish scripture service will be conducted at 7:30 tonight at Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. Visitation is from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church. Veronica Ouellette Veronica "Waunie" Ouellette of Elkton died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. She was born in Cheboygan to the late Vern and Mary (Green) Seaman and came to the Elkton area in the mid 1940s. On March 6, 1971, she was united in marriage to Richard J. Ouellette at St. Francis Borgia Church in Pigeon. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2000. Mrs. Ouellette was a mail clerk at the Elkton Post Office for 20 years, retiring in 1980. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Bolone and her husband, Joe, of Shelby Township and Christine Dowd and her husband, Bill, of Marysville; one son, Pete Beaver and his wife, Chris, of Lansing; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marguerite. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton. The Rev. DeWeerd Smith will officiate with entombment in Colfax Township Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Edwin L. Schramke Edwin L. Schramke, 73, passed away suddenly Wednesday, September 27, 2000 at Covenant-Cooper in Saginaw. He was born May 22, 1927 in Kinde, son of the late William and Florence (Champagne) Schramke. He married Frances Chiotti April 19, 1952 at St. Felix Catholic Church in Pinnebog. Mr. Schramke served six years in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a builder for over 20 years. He was employed by the Thomas Township Department of Public Works, retiring in 1996. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and its Ushers Club. Mr. Schramke was a member of the Moose Lodge #82. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren and his bingo friends at the Moose. He is survived by his wife Frances; four daughters and one son and their spouses, Marlene and Michael Westendorf, Ewa Beach, Hawaii; Beverly and Bradley Daubert, Hemlock; Douglas and Margaret Schramke, Boynton Beach, Fla.; Kathleen and Stephen Shaw, Hemlock; and Julie and Clovis Ash, Hemlock; 15 grandchildren, Melissa Westendorf, Amy Dodds and her husband, Carl; Bradley Jr., Phillip E. and Lisa Daubert; Erin, Alex, Mary Ann, Timothy and Lindsay Schramke; Amanda and Ashley Freeman Shaw; Christopher Shaw; Nicole and Joshua Ash; one great-grandson, Brandon Dodds; six sisters and three brothers and their spouses, Marcia and Donald Glaza; Jean and Thomas Smithers; Irene and John Yeska; Ellen Jennings; Judy and Duane Nowaczyk; William and Rita Schramke; Alice and James Larson; Richard and June Schramke; Donald and Ann Schramke; many nieces and nephews; his aunt, Virginia Wing; a brother-in-law, Larry McCormick; and a special friend of the family, Elda Straty. Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. There will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29. Visitation will also be 8:30 a.m. until mass at the church Saturday, Sept. 30. Joe Shelton Joe Wilson Shelton died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at his home in Erin, Tenn., after a year- long battle with cancer. Joe retired from the state of Michigan in 1984. He managed the State Liquor store in Bad Axe from 1972 or 1973 until his retirement in 1984. He worked for the State Liquor Commission for 28 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was an active member of the Erin Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Katie Clements Shelton of Erin; his mother-in-law, Mary Bryant of Erin; two sons, Scott Shelton of Liberty, N.C., and Steve Shelton of Lapeer; four daughters, Sandi Shelton of Forest, Va., Karen Burrell of LaFollette, Tenn., Carla Standard of Elkton, Ky., and Christy Parker of Smyrna, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one grandchild, four brothers and one sister. He was buried Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at Alsobrooks Cemetery in Erin. Richard Steinhoff Richard H. Steinhoff, 78, of Harbor Beach passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at his home. He was born on March 29, 1922, in Detroit, son of the late Herman and Ada (Davis) Steinhoff. He married Kathleen Butler who preceded him in death on Aug. 4, 1978. He married Bertha Koss on July 21, 1978. She preceded him in death on Oct. 12, 1989. He married JoAnn Herring-Lawson on July 31, 1995, in Bad Axe. Mr. Steinhoff served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Port Hope Amvets. He enjoyed fishing, duck hunting and especially his dog, Duke. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Steinhoff of Harbor Beach; one daughter, Barbara Girgenti of Harper Woods; one granddaughter, Lora Ketelhut and her husband, Jack. She was preceded in death by one son, Richard Steinhoff Jr. and one sister, Virginia McCulloch. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at the Ramsey Funeral Home, a Golden Rule Funeral Home, in Harbor Beach. The Rev. Andrew Willis, pastor of the Harbor Beach First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Rock Falls Cemetery in Harbor Beach. Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home. Arnold Ruppel Arnold G. Ruppel, 80, of Rochester Hills died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000. He retired from Pipe Fitters Local No. 636, Detroit. He was a member of Refrigeration Service Engineers Society and St. Trinity Lutheran Church. He formerly worked for Sylvan Plumbing and Heating. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Caroline; three sons, Clifton Ruppel of Novi, Nathan Ruppel of Rochester Hills, and Murray Ruppel of Rochester Hills; grandchildren, Craig O'Neil of Grand Rapids and Haley Graves of Yale; brothers and sisters, Gerald Ruppel and his wife, Gloria, of Port Hope, Esther Stroh of Port Huron, Janet Holbert and her husband, Richard, of California, Sandra Asselin and her husband, John, of California, Eleanor Taylor and her husband, David, of California, Elsie Matthews of Bad Axe, and Tom of Harbor Beach. He was the special nephew of W. James Lindsay of Port Huron. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at St. Trinity Lutheran Church in Clarkston. Suzanne Knoblock Suzanne Marie Knoblock, 53, of Bad Axe died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at her home in the company of her family. She was born on Oct. 8, 1946, in Detroit. Sue was a 1964 graduate of Bad Axe High School and completed a course of study at the Detroit Business College. She was employed as secretary/court recorder for the Huron County Circuit Court and Huron County District Court. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Sue enjoyed spending time with her family, particularly her five grandchildren, and lovingly caring for her home. She took great delight in relaxing on the beach, walking on the Port Austin breakwall, cross country skiing and staying physically fit. She was always very close to God and participated in many church activities, including serving as Eucharistic minister, religious educator and Bible studies group participant. She was a mentor of the faith to many friends and family members. During her life, Sue was a parishioner at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Kinde, St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. She was preceded in death by her fathers, August Drogosch, who passed away in 1947, and Roy Pratt, who passed away in 1980. Surviving are her husband, M. Richard Knoblock; four children, Michael August Knoblock, at home, Emily Suzanne Knoblock, a student at Michigan State University, Julie Ann Champagne of Filion and Paul Daniel Mousseau and his wife, Holly, of Grand Haven; her mother, Helen Veronica Pratt of Filion; her sister, Debra Schaefer and her husband, Wade, of Essexville; her brother, Daniel Roy Pratt of Oakland, Calif.; and grandchildren, Margot, Zachary, Nycole, Daniel and Katie. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. The Rev. Jack Leipert will officiate with burial in St. Michael's Catholic Church Cemetery in Port Austin. There will be a prayer service at 7 tonight at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. Visitation is from noon to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Huron County Hospice Care and the American Cancer Society. Harriet Juengel Harriet E. (Pokey) Juengel, 77, of Sebewaing died Sunday morning, Sept. 24, 2000, at her home following a six-week illness. She was born Aug. 25, 1923, in Bay City, daughter of the late William J. and Florence E. (Merkle) Pacholka. She was united in marriage to Richard C. Juengel on June 22, 1946, in the Salem E.U.B. Church in Bay City. Harriet was a 1941 graduate from Bay City Central High School and then graduated from the Northeastern School of Commerce in Bay City. She was employed at the Robert Gage Coal Co. in Bay City and later for Michigan Sugar Co. in Sebewaing. She also was employed at the former Hotel Hannah, Log Cabin Restaurant and the Snack Shack in Sebewaing. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sebewaing, the Sebewaing Women's Civic Club, Sebewaing American Legion Auxiliary and the Sebewaing Historical Society. She enjoyed playing bridge and bingo, and was an avid quilter. Surviving besides her husband, Richard, are two sons, Warren C. Juengel and his wife, Sandy, of Sebewaing, and William T. Juengel of Luther; four grandchildren, Todd Juengel and his wife, Karie, of Newaygo, Kathryn Gainforth and her husband, Rod, of Sebewaing, Bridget Johnson and her husband, David, of Tustin, and Heather Juengel of LeRoy; five great-grandchildren, Alicia, Micah and Haley Juengel and Nicole and Sydney Gainforth; two sisters, June Maxson and her husband, James, and Phyllis Pacholka, all of Bay City; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gerry Edler and her husband, Charles, of Owendale; two nieces; and three nephews. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Sebewaing. The Rev. Ray McGee will officiate with burial in the Northlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 this evening and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to Bay Shore Camp, Trinity United Methodist Church, Huron Memorial Hospice or the American Cancer Society. Dennis Beadle Dennis D. Beadle, 56, of Port Austin, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, in Huron Memorial Hospital in Bad Axe. He was born July 6, 1944, in Wayne County, the son of the late Clarence and Nellie (Smith) Beadle. He and Karron G. Hoopengamer were married on Dec. 26, 1964, in Ruby. Mr. Beadle was retired from Active Homes. He was a past president of Local No. 213 serving 12 years in the post. He was a former member of the Lamotte Township Fire Department. Surviving are his wife, Karron; one daughter, Dynette Russell of Cass City; one sister, Mavis Aitken of Lexington; and two grandchildren, Shelby and Zachary Russell. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, in the Pomeroy Funeral Home, Carsonville. The Rev. Catherine W. Hiner, Port Sanilac United Methodist Church will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Elizabeth Ertman Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" Ertman, 80, of Elkton and formerly of Cass City, passed away on Friday, Sept. 22, 2000 at Courtney Manor of Bad Axe. She was born on Dec. 2, 1919, in Minden Township, daughter of the late Leo and Matilda (Olshove) Osantowski. She was married to Frank Ertman, who proceeded her in death Feb. 22, 1992. She attended the Country School. She was a former member of the St. Mary Rosary Sodality of Parisville. She was a former officer and member of the Parisville VFW Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Columbkille Parish for many years. She farmed with her husband in Parisville from 1946 to 1969. They then moved to Cass City and lived there for 23 years. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed cards, crocheting and gardening. She is survived by two sons, Paul and his wife, Thelma, of Indiana, Duane and his wife, Maria, of Elkton; one daughter, Catherine Dianna Speer and her husband, Feaster, of Port Huron; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Leo Osantowski of Warren; five sisters, Sylvia Janowiak of Ubly, Beatrice Prange and her husband, George, of Warren, Olave Bukoski of Ubly, Christian Ulfig and her husband, John, of Snover, Grace Willis and her husband, Jack, of Port Sanilac. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; a brother, Leonard Osantowski; and two infant brothers, Calvin and Adam; and three sisters, Gertrude Stockman, Esther Konka and infant sister, Mildred. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church of Sheridan. The Rev. T.J. Fleming, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A parish wake service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 7:30 to 9:30 tonight, from 2 to 9:30 p.m. Monday and from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Delwin Gomoluch Delwin Noah Gomoluch, 55, of Bad Axe, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at Harbor Beach Community Hospital. He was born May 22, 1945, in Bloomfield Township. He was the son of the late Philip and Rachael (Tetreau) Gomoluch. Mr. Delwin Gomoluch and Miss Judith Ann Jurgess were married Feb. 19, 1966. He graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1963. Delwin was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bad Axe. He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, working with the tractor, gardening, family and his dog, Shep. He was in the Army Reserve for seven years, 1964-1971. Delwin is survived by his wife, Judith; his daughter, Lesa Schreir and her husband, Steve, of Holt; one granddaughter, Sierra Schreir; two brothers, Joe Gomoluch and his wife, Sue, of Reese and Ed Gomoluch and his wife, Deb, of Sturgis; three sisters, Venice Shuart and her husband, Clark, of Filion, Phyllis Schelke and her husband, Jack, of Harbor Beach, and Mary Blackstock and her husband, Jim, of Bad Axe; one step- grandson, Justin Schreir; and several nieces and nephews. In keeping with Delwin's wishes cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church Building Fund, 123 W. Irwin.
