HURON DAILY TRIBUNE, Bad Axe, Michigan Local Obituaries Week of June 25, 2000 Meta Ross Meta M. Ross, 87, of Davison died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at Genesys Hospice- Goodrich. Meta was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada on Sept. 18, 1912, the daughter of David and Francis (Montgomery) Brodie. She married Earl Ross on March 25, 1939, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1983. Meta was a very caring and giving person to her family and friends, always offering to "lend a hand." For many years she volunteered at the Davison Senior Center, Davison Historical Society and many other organizations, and was a Thompson School Elementary Reader. She is survived by four sons, Glen Ross and his wife, Ceclia, of Davison, Lynn Ross and his wife, Connie, of White Lake, Pat Ross and his wife, Kathy, of Davison, and Monty Ross and his wife, Cheryl, of Davison; seven grandchildren, Dan, Lori, Kyle, Cory, Steve, Mike and Clay; three great-grandchildren, Justin, Jared and Jillian; three sisters, Elsie Steele, Laurene Chaltraw and Donelda Evans; brothers-in-law, Gibb Ross and his wife, Gwen, and Charlie Ross and his wife, Eva; special nieces Meg and Rene; and many other nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison. High Priest William Crampton Jr., will officiate. Burial will be in Davison Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Genesys Hospice-Goodrich or the American Cancer Society. Watson Robinson Watson B. Robinson, 68, of Harbor Beach passed away Thursday, June 29, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw, following a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2000, in Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, Harbor Beach. Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach, is handling arrangements which are incomplete at this time. A complete obituary will appear in Sunday's Huron Daily Tribune. Steven Turosky Steven Turosky, 86, of Bad Axe, formerly of Harbor Beach, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at his home. He was born on April 30, 1914, in Kenosha, Wisc., son of the late John and Mary (Prokoff) Turosky. He married Florence Gewont on Feb. 12, 1937, in Angola, Ind. She preceded him in death on Dec. 17, 1977. Mr. Turosky and his wife owned and operated the Bluewater Lanes in Harbor Beach for 10 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Harbor Beach and the Harbor Beach American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed coin collecting and was known for charming those he met with his sense of humor. He is survived by a son, Ivan Turosky and his wife, Jan McCrea-Turosky, of Saline; a daughter, Maryanne Neeb and her husband, John, of Bad Axe; six grandchildren, B. Jay, Kala and Leah Neeb of Bad Axe, and Steven, Anna and Nicholas Turosky of Saline; and two sisters, Berniece Clawson and Harriett Lemke of Racine, Wisc. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Josephine, Helen, JoAnne and Sophie. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2000, at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Officiating will be the Rev. Mark E. Girardin, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church in Harbor Beach. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church or to the memorial of the donor's choice. Mildred Kain Mildred K. Kain, 78, of Owendale died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Select Care Hospital in Flint following a lengthy illness. She was born Dec. 13, 1921, in Kilmanagh, daughter of the late Richard Frederick and Katherine Minnie (Stueck) Nimtz, Sr. She was united in marriage to Emerson Kain on Aug. 30, 1941, in Kilmanagh. They celebrated 58 years of marriage together. Mildred was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linkville. She loved to crochet, garden, sew and especially loved her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving, kind person. Surviving besides her husband, Emerson, are six daughters and their husbands, Carolyn Pardo and her husband, George, of St. Clair Shores, Mary Ann Kain of Roseville, Marilyn Sobolewski and her husband, Joseph, of Algonac, Lois Kain of Palm City, Fla., Deann Protzman and her husband, Gary, of Caseville, and Elaine Wickham and her husband, Ross, of Fraser; seven grandchildren, Lori Voss and her husband, Robert, Kathryn Gliniecki and her husband, Robert, Brian Pardo, Nicholas, Kyle and Krista Protzman, and Jennifer Wickham; two great- grandchildren, Amanda and Bobby Gliniecki; three brothers, Wilmer Nimtz and his wife, Helen, Walter Nimtz and his wife, Vernita, all of Sebewaing, and Richard Nimtz, Jr., of Port Austin; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Elbing; and a brother, Arthur Nimtz. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2000, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linkville. The Rev. Ernest C. Wendt will officiate with burial in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Sebewaing. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. She will lie in state from 11 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund or the charity of the donor's choice. Robert Ritchie Robert A. Ritchie, 78, a resident of Roseville for three years and a former resident of Caseville, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at Bi-County Community Hospital in Warren. He was born April 27, 1922, in Detroit. He was a retired firefighter for the City of Detroit. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the Harper Woods Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Caseville. He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Massey and her husband, Daniel, and Denise Iannuci and her husband, Michael; one son, Brian Ritchie and his wife, Nancy; and a sister, Virginia Schurr and her husband, David. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; and three sons, Michael, Robert and William. Funeral services will take place at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2000, at Kaul Funeral Home, 27830 Gratiot Ave., Roseville, with Msgr. Ferdinand DeCneudt officiating. Visitation will be 2:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Eugene Weber Eugene Lyle Weber, 68, of Portland, Ore., died June 23, 2000, of cancer in Portland. He was born April 19, 1932 to Selma and the late Orie Weber of Kinde. He was a retired electrician of Local 58 in Detroit. He is survived by his children, Karen of West Virginia, Cheryl of Allendale, and Kurt of Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren; his mother, Selma, of Bad Axe; and his brothers, Ron Weber of Marlette and Gary Weber of Port Austin. He was preceded in death by his father, Orie; and a brother, Elwood Weber. Cremation took place in Portland and additional funeral plans are not determined at this time. Tobin Rote Tobin C. Rote, 72, of Port Hope near Lighthouse Park passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw following a short illness. He was born Jan. 18, 1928, in San Antonio, Texas, the son of the late William and Augusta (Tiechert) Rote. He was a graduate of Rice University in Houston, Texas, and a professional football player in the National Football League for 17 years as quarterback with the Green Bay Packers from 1950-56, the Detroit Lions from 1957-59, the Toronto Argonauts from 1960-61, the San Diego Chargers from 1962-64, and the Denver Broncos in 1965-66. Tobin was a retired employee of the Fischbach Corp. in Detroit, retiring in 1988. He and his wife, Julie, retired to the Lighthouse Park area near Port Hope in 1993. He was a member of the Port Hope-Grindstone Sportsman Club and the NFL Retired Players Association. Surviving Tobin are his wife, Julie Rote, of Port Hope; two daughters, Robin Kirk and her husband, Bob, of Plymouth, and Toni Stapley and her husband, John, of Woodland Hills, Calif.; a son, Rock Rote and his wife, Bonnie, of Delafield, Wisc.; seven grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Rote of San Antonio, Texas; and nieces and nephews. Cremation took place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City and a memorial service is being planned for a later time. Memorials may be made to the NFL Players Assistance Fund or the Spinal Cord Injury Foundation and may be directed to the Ramsey Funeral Home, 425 State St., Harbor Beach MI 48441, which is handling arrangements. Raymond Goretski Raymond B. Goretski, 73, of Port Austin died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at his home. He was born on May 12, 1927, in Port Austin, son of the late Floyd and Alice (Pincoski) Goretski. He and Patricia Walsh were married on April 11, 1953, at St. Felix Catholic Church in Pinnebog. Raymond was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany during the Korean War. He was a lifelong farmer in Hume Township, an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed reading about history. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two sons, William Goretski and his wife, Loraine, of Port Austin, and James Goretski and his wife, Cherie, of Kinde; two daughters, JoAnn Kapa and her husband, Kenny, of Clinton Township, and Jeanne Fisher and her husband, Joseph, of Birch Run; 11 grandchildren, Nathan, Aaron, Stephanie, Karlie and Nicholas Goretski, Kyle, Ryan and Matthew Kapa, and Jacqueline, Jill and Jeanine Fisher; two brothers, Robert Goretski and his wife, Pauline, of Bad Axe, and Edward Goretski and his wife, Marie, of Kinde; two sisters, Theresa Bodis and her husband, Leo, of Bad Axe, and Irene Yaroch of Kinde; and a sister-in-law, Agnes Goretski of Bad Axe. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ervin Goretski. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Kinde. The Rev. John Killop will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A parish scripture service will be conducted at 7:30 tonight at Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Edwin Roemer Edwin George Roemer, 77, of Sebewaing died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Scheurer Hospital following an eight-month illness. He was born Jan. 4, 1923, in Brookfield Township, son of the late William and Margaret (Mayer) Roemer. He was united in marriage to Mildred Ludwig on Nov. 10, 1951, in St. John Lutheran Church in Kilmanagh. Edwin had been a farmer in the Sebewaing area and had been field man for Michigan Sugar Co. in Sebewaing. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kilmanagh and the Sebewaing Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4115. Surviving are his wife, Mildred; three sons and one daughter and their spouses, William Roemer, Sr., and friend, Connie Sutter of Sebewaing, John and Elizabeth Roemer of Gagetown, Kenneth and Lu Roemer, Patricia and Lee Koehler, all of Sebewaing; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Frieda Finkbeiner of Sebewaing; one brother, Walter Roemer and his wife, Ruth, of Sebewaing; his mother-in-law, Meta Ludwig of Sebewaing; two sisters-in-law, Marie Roemer of Detroit and Dorothy Nast of Sebewaing; one brother-in-law, Ralph Ludwig and his wife, Carolyn, of Mio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Herbert, John and Rudolph Roemer; two sisters, infant Esther Roemer and Meta Stauffer. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2000, at St. John Lutheran Church in Kilmanagh. The Rev. David Lukefahr will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. A military graveside service will be conducted under the auspices of the Sebewaing V.F.W. Post #4115 and the Sebewaing American Legion Post #293. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Dinkel- Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Radio Mission Fund or the donor's choice. James Harder James G. Harder, 65, of Bay Port passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at the Aleda E. Lutz Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Saginaw. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2000, at the Bay Port Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangements are being handled by the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home in Pigeon. 1
