Obituaries for the week of November 26, 2000 Sunday, November 26, 2000 James Adams James William Adams, 60, of Bad Axe died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. He was born on Dec. 8, 1939, in Redman to the late Floyd and Dorothy (Hiller) Adams. James graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1957. James Adams and Luci Villarreal were married on Dec. 9, 1967, in the Port Hope Lutheran Church. James was a self-employed painter. He enjoyed golfing, caddying, driving, the outdoors and his cat. He loved visiting with family and friends. He served in the United States Army. He is survived by his wife, Luci; one daughter, Malissa Adams of Bad Axe; one son, Mark Adams of Bad Axe; three sisters, Jean Kiehl and her husband, Robert, of Bad Axe, Joyce Metzger and her husband, Len, of Owendale; and Karen Britt and her husband, Perry, of Bad Axe; three brothers, Ken Adams and his wife, Mary Ann, of Munger, Lee T. Adams and his wife, Susan, of Blue Spring, Mo.; and John Adams of Bad Axe; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be conducted at noon on Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home of Bad Axe. Ray Sting, lay minister of Our Savior Lutheran Church, will officiate. Cremation took place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. Memorials may be made to the family or Bad Axe Historical Society. Raquel Castillo Raquel Castillo, 78, of Essexville, and formerly of Sebewaing, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Bay Medical Center in Bay City. The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Sebewaing with burial in the Assembly of God Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home, Inc., in Sebewaing. Audrey Roth Audrey A. Roth, 63, of Brown City died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, in Goodrich. She was born Dec. 30, 1936, in Burnside Township, the daughter of Joseph and Ellen (Kreiner) Blonde. She attended Romeo High School. She was a housewife and mother but also worked for 19 1/2 years at Oakdale Center. She was a member of SERA and the Burnside Senior Citizens Club. She was a volunteer for Project Blessing and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brown City. She is survived by five children, James Heiden and his wife, Amy, Timothy Heiden and his wife, Barbara, and Kenneth Heiden and his wife, Valerie, all of Elkton, Diana Heiden of Kinde, and John G. Roth of Jacksonville, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, Timothy, Jason, Angie, Kenny, Ryan, BethAnn, Christopher, Ashley, Jesse, Jon-Marie and Harley; and a great-grandson, Talon; her mother, Ellen Krohn; a brother, Fred Blonde and his wife, Pat, of Washington; a sister-in-law, Shirley Blonde; special friends Gene and Di; and five nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church Building Fund. Hallie and Quintin Swift Our hearts are broken, our arms are empty. Our sons, Hallie Swift and Quintin Dean Swift were born Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, 2000. Hallie died later that day and Quintin D. died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, in Kranz Funeral Home in Kingston with the Rev. Ken Sandefur of the Kingston Wesleyan Church officiating. Memorials may be made to the family discretionary fund. Monday, November 27, 2000 Lucy Robinson-Humphrey-Hamilton Lucy N. Robinson-Humphrey-Hamilton, 98, formerly of Royal Oak passed away on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at the Harbor Beach Community Hospital Long-Term Care Unit. She was born on Jan. 24, 1902, in Ubly, daughter of the late John and Charlotte (Lewis) Robinson. She married John Humphrey who preceded her in death in 1936. She married Ernest P. Hamilton on Dec. 7, 1946, in Detroit. He preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 1979. Mrs. Hamilton was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Royal Oak. She is survived by two daughters, Sally Detrick of Port Hope and Betty Schmitz of Warren; four grandchildren, David Detrick and his wife, Jean, of Port Hope, Daniel Detrick and his special friend, Karla Devereaux, of Grand Rapids, Scott Schmitz and his special friend, Brenda Kowalski, of Sterling Heights and Jeffrey Schmitz of Royal Oak; four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Nicole and Danielle Detrick and Jacob Schmitz; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Mark Detrick; one son-in-law, James Detrick; four brothers, Ira, Lewis, Jack and Otis Robinson; one sister, Sara Campbell. Dorothy Markle Dorothy Markle, 75, of Hartsville, S.C., and former resident of Bad Axe, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, in South Carolina. She was born in Detroit, the daughter of the late Floyd H. and Elizabeth Pollach Hall. She was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church in Hartsville. Mrs. Markle began her career as a telephone operator in the days when the operator rode roller skates to make telephone connections. She retired after 40 years of service from Michigan Bell. Her poetry was enjoyed by her family, friends and church communities in Michigan, North Carolina and South Carolina. She is survived by her son, David Markle and his wife, Faith, of Hartsville; grandchildren, Charis Markle, Alyssa Markle, Grayson Markle, Israel Markle and Christian Markle; two brothers, Harvey "Bud" Hall of Lachine and James Hall of Port Hope; two sisters, Lillian McMullin of Big Rapids and Betty Severance of Orange, Calif. Jetta Muhme Jetta Louise Muhme, 81, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at her home in Pigeon while under hospice care. She was born on July 8, 1919, in Detroit at the home of her parents, the late Frederick and Jean (Swinck) Erdman. On Feb. 22, 1941, she was united in marriage to William M. Muhme at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Detroit. They moved from Drayton Plains to the Caseville area after retiring in 1983. William died on May 5, 1986. Mrs. Muhme retried from the Columbia Air Center, a retirement home for nuns and priests. She and her husband also owned the Acme Cleaners in Drayton Plains. Jetta was very active in her community. She was active in everything she was part of, including the Caseville United Methodist Church, the Caseville American Legion Auxiliary, the Caseville Library Club, the Caseville Eagle Auxiliary and the Caseville Historical Society. She was travel chairwoman for eight years for the Caseville Retirement Club. She is survived by two sons, Charles Muhme and his wife, Enid, of Milford and Gerald Muhme and his wife, Joan, of Dryden; three grandchildren, Kathy, Phillip and Jason; two great-grandchildren, Darrell and Michelle; her very special friend, Richard Decker, of Pigeon. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jamie. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at the Caseville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Michael Quayle, pastor, will officiate with burial in the Caseville Township Cemetery. An Eagle Auxiliary service will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville. Isadore Oberski Mr. Isadore "Zig" Oberski, 84, of Ruth died Sunday morning, Nov. 26, 2000, at the Harbor Beach Long- Term Facility. He was born on May, 9, 1916, in Parisville, son of the late Leo and Lucy (Czewski) Oberski. He married Rita Grifka on Nov. 23, 1946, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He attended country school and worked on the family farm until entering the service. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in Europe from 1942 to 1945. He then farmed in Paris Township until he retired in 1978. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville. He was a member of the Parisville V.F.W. Post No. 5740 of Ruth. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing the fiddle at weddings and parties. He is survived by his wife, Rita, of Ruth; three daughters, Sharon Gentner and her husband, Bob, of Saginaw, Judy Oberski of Baton Rouge, La. and Jamie Maddeaux and her husband, Peter, of Vadnais, Minn.; three sons, Leo Oberski and his wife, Ruth, of Birch Run, Ron Oberski and his wife, Hazel, of North Carolina and Duane Oberski and his significant other, Barb, of Naples, Fla.; five grandsons, Bob and Scott Oberski, Brian, Kevin and Darren Gentner; two sisters, Isabel Wodwaska of Ruth and Irene Lamke and her husband, Theodore, of Ruth; one brother, David Oberski and his wife, Mildred, of Ruth; one sister-in-law, Gertrude Oberski of Parisville. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Julius, Theodore, Roman and Albert; two sisters, Victoria Wrubel and Anna Susalla Filipiak. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund. Gladys Sageman Gladys M. Sageman, 80, of Bad Axe passed away on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at Huron Memorial Hospital in Bad Axe following an extended illness. She was born on April 30, 1920, in Port Hope, the daughter of the late George and Eva (Fleming) Kaufman. She married Harold T. Sageman on Jan. 17, 1990, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Mrs. Sageman was a life member of the Port Austin V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and a former Eucharistic minister at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the ladies auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, Harold T. Sageman, of Bad Axe; two daughters, Gloria of Harbor Beach and Marie of Beaverton; one son, John and his wife, Elizabeth of Harbor Beach; five grandsons, Jeremy of Bad Axe, Thomas, Steven, Ralph and Harold, all of Harbor Beach; two granddaughters, Beth and Vicki of Harbor Beach; one great-granddaughter, Jasmine, of Harbor Beach; two sisters, Neoma of Harbor Beach and Joanne and her husband, Bruce, of Harbor Beach. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William; her second husband, Ralph; one brother, Melvin; one sister, Maxine; two grandsons, John John and Jason. Teper, 75, of Warren, and formerly of Port Austin, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. She is survived by her husband, Edward; sons, Ken Teper and his wife, Margo, Joe Teper and his wife, Cathy, Ron Teper and his wife, Tina; daughters, Karen Guitar and her husband, Allen and Jane Plumer and her husband, Roger; 10 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at the David J. Wysocki Funeral Home in Warren. A mass was performed at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Cletus Catholic Church in Warren. Burial will be noon on today, Nov. 27, 2000, at St. Michael Cemetery in Port Austin. Tuesday, November 28, 2000 Howard Cain Howard J. Cain, 56, of Caseville, formerly of Flint, died Sunday evening, Nov. 26, 2000, at McLaren Medical Center, Flint, of complications following cancer surgery. He was born July 24, 1944, in Norfolk, Va., while his father was stationed there in the service, to Rena (Perugini) Cain and the late Earl Cain. On Aug. 22, 1987, he was united in marriage to Kay (Hoy) Jensen at the Davison United Methodist Church. They moved to Caseville in July 1992. Howard lived in the Flint area most of his life. He graduated from GMI in Flint in 1967 and had been employed at GM Delphi for 35 years, retiring in 1998. He then took an engineering position at Tower Automotive, Inc., Elkton, in January 1999. He loved and enjoyed his family and friends and appreciated a quiet secluded place where he could go fly fishing. Surviving are his wife, Kay; two sons, Rodney Cain and his wife, Katherine, of Swartz Creek and Sgt. Jeremy Jensen of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Wendy Filipiak and her husband, Jim, of Eastpointe and Jamie Jensen of Wixom; two grandchildren, Megan and Aaron; his mother, Rena Cain, of Flint; his brother, Richard Cain and his wife, Karen, of Gaines; and a nephew, Ken Cain and his wife, Debby, of Idaho. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville, with burial in Caseville Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville, and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Michigan Eye Bank. Jeannette Bursick Jeannette Bursick, 69, died Sunday evening, Nov. 26, 2000, at her home following a one-year illness. She was born July 2, 1931, in Winsor Township, daughter of the late Ernest and Stella (Law) Haag. She was married to Jack E. Bursick on Dec. 19, 1953. He preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 1977. Jeannette had been a health caregiver in the Sebewaing area for many years. She also had been employed at Meijer's in Essexville. She was a member of The Christian Church in Sebewaing and the Sebewaing American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 293. Surviving are one daughter, four sons and their wives, Laurie Harder, Brian Bursick and his wife, Sue, Timothy Bursick and his wife, Diane, Clayton Wade Bursick, all of Sebewaing, and Michael Bursick and his wife, Sue, of Platteville, Wisc.; 11 grandchildren; three step- grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Ahler and her husband, Donald, of Bay City, and Nancy Anderson and her husband, Ken, of Sebewaing; six brothers, Ernest Haag and his wife, Florence, of Flint, Fred Haag and his wife, Maudie, Thomas Haag and his wife, Ida, all of Sebewaing, Dennis Haag and his wife, Dana, of Bay City, John Haag of Georgia, and William Haag of Lakeland, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Huron Memorial Hospice. Celeste Coleman Celeste R. Coleman, 77, of New Baltimore and formerly of Caseville, died Nov. 26, 2000, at her residence. She was born on July 2, 1923, in Detroit. She retired from General Motors Tech Center in 1986. Her greatest delights in life were spending time with her two grandchildren and her summers in Caseville. Her family would like her to be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by three daughters, Diane Clabuesch and her husband, Henry, of Sand Point, Julie LaCombe of Fair Haven and Laurie Clayton of Fraser; two grandchildren, Heather LaCombe and Jonathan Clabuesch; a sister, Viola Bunoski of Utica; and a brother, John Bunoski of Roscommon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, on July 15, 1986; and a daughter, Sandra Ashmun in 1974. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home at 8459 Hall Road in Utica. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Michigan. Jimmy Lee Hartsell Jimmy Lee Hartsell, 63, of Lewiston, formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Monday, Nov. 27, 2000. He was born on Nov. 21, 1937, in Cass City, son of Leeland and Olive (Philpot) Hartsell. He married Joyce Sadro on March 16, 1960, in Bad Axe. He retired from Carmet, where he was a supervisor for 40 years. He enjoyed NASCAR races, snowmobiling, jet skiing, four-wheeling, deer hunting, coaching Little League and race car driving. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1957. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Hartsell, of Lewiston; a son, Dale Hartsell and his wife, Gretchen McBride, of Caseville; a daughter, Sharon Meredith of San Diego, Calif.; his mother, Olive Hartsell, of Bad Axe; a brother, Gary Hartsell of Bad Axe; a sister, Joan Nowland and her husband, Ken, of Caro; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Hartsell of Bad Axe; a half-sister, Debbie O'Brien and her husband, Jim, of Caro; and his stepmother, Marie Hartsell of Caro. He was preceded in death by his father, Leeland Hartsell; and a brother, Gordy Hartsell. No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are being made by the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Emma Shetler Emma A. Shetler, 94, of Pigeon passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Sunny Acres Nursing Center, Bad Axe. She was born on Jan. 12, 1906, in Winsor Township, the daughter of the late Jacob and Veronica (Ropp) Albrecht. On June 25, 1923, she was united in marriage to Joseph A. Shetler in Pigeon. He preceded her in death on July 17, 1973. From 1945 to 1969, Mrs. Shetler and her husband owned and operated the Shetler Quality Furniture and Funeral Director business in Pigeon, which was later known as the Shetler Funeral Home. From 1972 to 1974, she operated the switchboard at Scheurer Hospital. Mrs. Shetler was an avid china painter and also enjoyed embroidery. She was a member of the Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church in Pigeon. Her survivors include a daughter, Genevieve McIlhargie and her husband, William, of Port Austin; a son, Dale Shetler and his wife, Nonie, of Fairview; six grandchildren, Beverly Are'valo of California, Daryl McIlhargie and his wife, Shelly, of New Mexico, Dawn McIlhargie of Florida, Terry Shetler and his wife, Joanne, of Bay Port, Brenda Foncannon of Colorado, and Theresa Swartzendruber and her husband, Terry, of Bay Port; eight great-grandchildren, Miles and Meghan McIlhargie, Brandon and Jason Shetler, Michael and Jerad Foncannon, and Joshua and Kerri Swartzendruber; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at the Meyersieck- Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon, with the Rev. Bouverette Chapin, 82, lifelong resident of Bad Axe and Filion, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2000, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born March 31, 1918, in Filion, the daughter of the late Albert and Marjorie (Thomson) Ayotte. Miss Alberta Ayotte and Mr. Lloyd Bouverette were married Nov. 6, 1936, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Kinde. Lloyd died July 2, 1966. Alberta then married Flavel Chapin on Nov. 6, 1970, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Kinde. He preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 1986. Alberta was a cook at Huron Memorial Hospital for many years. She also farmed and was a homemaker. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Bad Axe. Alberta was a member of the Caseville Eagles Club Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, being with her grandchildren and was a loving mother. Alberta is survived by two daughters, Bernadette Pratt and her husband, Harvey, of Yale and Therese Prill and her husband, Martin, of Port Austin; one son, Jerome Bouverette and his wife, Beth, of Bad Axe; four stepchildren, Terry Chapin and his wife, Pat, of Gagetown, Ginger Hoppe and her husband, Howard, of Sebewaing, Jody Bumhoffer and her husband, Gary, of Escondido, Calif., and Ricky Chapin of North Hollywood, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great- grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, John Ayotte of Harbor Beach; one sister-in- law, Rose Ayotte of Port Huron; 16 step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special family friend, Donna Brown of Bad Axe. Margaret Schwanitz Margaret Schwanitz, 100, of Kinde died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Sunny Acres Nursing Center, Bad Axe. She was born Sept. 8, 1900, in Port Austin, daughter of the late Don and Mary (Weiss) Kennedy. Miss Margaret Kennedy and Mr. John Schwanitz were married Feb. 9, 1942. John preceded Margaret in death on Dec. 24, 1964. Margaret was a member of St. Mary's Church in Kinde. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking and family gatherings. Margaret is survived by seven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters. Martha Wineman Martha Wineman, 87, of Sebewaing died Sunday evening, Nov. 26, 2000, at Alterra Clarebridge of Bay City following a lengthy illness. She was born Sept. 23, 1913, in Bach, daughter of the late Charles M. and Anna (Haag) Moll. She was united in marriage to Walter G. Wineman, Jr., on Oct. 28, 1939, in Bay City. He preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 1997. Martha was employed at the W.R. Knepp department store in Bay City and later for Dr. Harold Burke D.D.S. in Sebewaing. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bach and the Altar Guild and the Sebewaing Garden Club. Surviving are four sons, Dr. Bruce A. Wineman D.O. and his wife, Catherine, of Spencer, Wisc., Charles Wineman and his wife, Pam, James Wineman and his wife, Sally, and David Wineman, all of Sebewaing; one daughter, Margo Badoni and her husband, Paul, of Oak Forest, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Moran and her husband, Edward, of Florida, and Aileen Anderson and her husband, Ronald, of Bay City; a brother, Ralph Moll and his wife, Anne Mae, of Bay City; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Ernest, Paul, John, Wesley and Charles Moll; and three sisters, Emma List, Frieda Thorp and Rilly Adele Vought. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bach. The Rev. Ernest C. Wendt will officiate with burial in the Silverlawn Cemetery in Sebewaing. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Dora DeSloover Dora Clara DeSloover, 83, of Caseville died Tuesday morning, Nov. 28, 2000, at Sunny Acres Nursing Center. She was born March 13, 1917, at the home of her parents, Adolf and Clara (Schlag) Geber in France. On Feb. 25, 1950, she was united in marriage to August DeSloover in Waiblingen, Germany. They moved to Detroit and then to Caseville later that year. He preceded her in death on Aug. 25, 1977. Mrs. DeSloover owned and operated Dora's Beauty Shop in Caseville for almost 45 years, retiring in the early 1990s. She was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Caseville. Surviving are one son, Larry DeSloover, and his wife, Carol, of Caseville; one daughter, Heidi DeKeyser and her husband, Erich, of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Justin, Laura and Becca DeSloover and Ben and Mike Young; her sister, Margot Roll and her husband, George, of England; and one brother, Felix Geber of Germany. Irene Lamke Mrs. Irene Agnes Lamke, 79, of Parisville went to the Lord on Thursday morning, Nov. 30, 2000, at the Harbor Beach Long Term Care Facility. She was born on Jan. 21, 1921, in Parisville, daughter of the late Leo and Lucy (Czewski) Oberski. She married Ted Lamke on June 17, 1938, at St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville. She attended the Country School and was a loving mother, grandmother and housewife. She retired from Active Industries after more than 30 years in 1986. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary Church and the Rosary Sodality. She enjoyed quilting and playing cards and visiting with family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Ted, of Parisville; three daughters, Viola Church and her husband, Wayne, of Filion, Patricia Limbacher and her husband, Richard, of Carsonville, and Lucille Paionk and her husband, Adam, of Parisville; two sons, Marvin Lamke and his wife, Sally, of Parisville and Myron Lamke and his wife, Joyce, of Ubly; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Isabel Wodwaska of Ruth; one brother, David Oberski and his wife, Mildred, of Parisville; and one sister- in-law, Gertrude Oberski of Parisville. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Julius, Theodore, Roman, Albert and Isadore; and two sisters, Victoria Wrubel and Anna Susalla Filipiak. Walter Harmon Walter E. Harmon, 82, of Kingston died Nov. 29, 2000, in Cartwright Care Center Hospice in Saginaw. Hazard, 90, of Elkton died Wednesday evening, Nov. 29, 2000, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility, Bad Axe. She was born Jan. 11, 1910, at the home of her parents, the late Nelson and Sadie (King) Walrod in Verona Township. Georgia was united in marriage to Lee Hazard on Oct. 30, 1936, in Flint. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1968. They farmed in Colfax Township until 1954 when they purchased the Dr. Monroe home at the corner of Mill and Wright and operated Wayside Nursing Home until 1968. After Mr. Hazard's death she moved to Clark Street and opened Hazard Foster Care Home, operating it until her retirement in 1982. Surviving are her daughter, Cheri Kula and her husband, Tony, of Calhoun, Ga.; her son, Edward Hazard of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Jeff, Tonda, Dale and Rick; four great-grandchildren, Alissa, Brynn, Jennifer and Nathan; her brother, Ervin Walrod and his wife, Zora, of Gagetown; and a sister, Lydia Armstead and her husband, Roy, of Bad Axe. Pauline Herford Pauline Helen Herford, 47, went to meet her Lord at 10:45 p.m. Thursday evening, Nov. 30, 2000, at her home. She was born May 15, 1953, in Bad Axe, the daughter and fifth child of John and the late Helen (Weltin) Maurer. She was united in marriage to William Welland Herford on Nov. 13, 1976, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Smith Corners. Surviving are her immediate family members, who have always been by her side: her loving husband, William; two wonderful sons, Adam, a senior at Michigan State University, and Luke, at home; a beautiful daughter, Beth, also at home; her dedicated father, John Maurer and his wife, Joan; eight supportive and caring brothers, Benedict, Joseph, Stephen and his wife, Carlin, all of Ubly; Marcus of Homer; James and his wife, Diane, of Plymouth, Glen and his wife, Melissa, of Chesterfield, and Gary of Grand Rapids; seven caring and supportive sisters, Janice Shemka of Essexville, Marian Holdwick and her husband, Gene, of Harbor Beach, Theresa Mazure and her husband, Mike, of Port Austin, Lucille Recker and her husband, Gus, of Ubly, Ann Maurer of Waterford, Carol Maurer of Farmington Hills and Margaret Maurer of Kalamazoo. Maurer, 79, of Bad Axe passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe following an extended illness. She was born on Nov. 17, 1921, in Redman, daughter of the late Edward and Emma (Zinzer) Bannick. She married Vincent Maurer on June 28, 1941, at St. Felix Catholic Church near Pinnebog. He preceded her in death on Oct. 2, 1992. Mrs. Maurer was a member of the Bad Axe Church of the Nazarene. She is survived by four sons, James Maurer of Bad Axe, Donald Maurer and his wife, Lila, of Elkton, Randy Maurer and his wife, MaryAnn, of Port Austin, and Rick Maurer and his wife, Debbie, of Bad Axe; five daughters, Della Anderson and her husband, Bill, of Grand Blanc, Trudy Brenner and her husband, Joe, of Elkton, Connie Arntz of Bad Axe, Sherry Roberts and her husband, Doug, of Kinde, and Julie Craig and her husband, Greg, of Bad Axe; one brother, James Bannick and his wife, Pat, of Diamondale; one sister, Adeline Rogers of Kelso, Wash.; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Barry Pawluk Barry George Pawluk, 48, Caseville veterinarian, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at his home. He was born March 7, 1952, in Detroit to Walter and Dorothy (Sharp) Pawluk. On Aug. 11, 1990, Barry was united in marriage to Karen Hayes at the Unity Church in Lansing. Barry graduated from Michigan State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1976. He worked at the Fohey and Green Clinic in Clio for eight years prior to opening the Caseville Small Animal Clinic in 1984, when he moved to Caseville from Flint. Barry loved golf and his Corvette. Surviving are his wife, Karen; one daughter, Lesley Pawluk, a freshman at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; one son, Andrew Pawluk of Flint; his mother, Dorothy Pawluk of Flint; two brothers, Michael Pawluk and his wife, Linda, of Tice, Fla., and William Pawluk and his wife, Staci, of Williamston; and two sisters, Donna Tierney and her husband, John, of Flint and Gail Santa and her husband, Ken, of Clio. Juanita Withey Juanita E. Withey, 80, of Caseville died Thursday evening, Nov. 30, 2000, at Hills and Dales Hospital in Cass City. She was born on May 28, 1920, at the home of her parents, Farmer and Louella (Long) Rice in Oilsprings, Ky. On Oct. 28, 1939, she was married to Fred Withey in Ohio. They moved from Cass City to Caseville after retiring. Juanita was a homemaker all her married life. She was a very active member of the Caseville Eagles Auxiliary and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Cass City. She especially enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Surviving are her husband, Fred, of Caseville; her son, Francis Withey and his wife, Mary, of Cass City; two grandsons, Patrick and his wife, Dena, of Caseville and Michael and his wife, Jamie, of Cass City; and three great-grandchildren, Paige, Allyson and Hannah. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville.
