HURON DAILY TRIBUNE, Bad Axe, Huron County, Michigan Local Obituaries Week of August 27, 2000 Daniel Weinlander Daniel J. Weinlander, 71, of Sebewaing died Friday, Aug. 31, 2000, at his home following a three-month illness. He was born May 21, 1929, in Sebewaing, son of the late Christian Daniel and Edna M. (Gettel) Weinlander. He was united in marriage to Evelyn M. Cove on Feb. 24, 1951, in Pigeon. Dan had been a farmer in the Sebewaing area for 40 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post No. 293 of Sebewaing. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn, of Sebewaing; three sons, Daniel Weinlander and his wife, Terri, of East Lansing, Steven Weinlander and his wife, Lori Ann, and Thomas Weinlander and his wife, Janice, all of Sebewaing; one daughter, Lori Jo Weinlander of Essexville; seven grandchildren, Brandon, Ashlee, Nicole, Eric, Stacey, Sean and Shane; one brother, Walter Weinlander of Bay City; three nieces and three nephews, Wendy, Pam, Marcie, Dave, Jack and Dean. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. The Rev. Charles Kuhl will officiate with burial in the Northlawn Cemetery. A graveside committal service will take place under the auspices of the Sebewaing American Legion Post No. 293. Visitation will be noon to 9 p.m. today at Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Sebewaing American Legion Post No. 293. George Orvis George Gainey Orvis, 40, of Clarksburg, Md., and summer resident of Port Austin, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, after a water accident in Port Austin. He was born May 31, 1960, in Washington, D.C. He was the son of Bryon L. Orvis and the late Catherine G. (Gainey) Orvis. He was a graduate of Frostburg College in Frostburg, Md. George was a dog lover. He is survived by his father, Bryon Orvis of Bethesda, Md.; and his sister, Mary Ellen Orvis of Keller, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at St. Jane-Frances De Chantal in Bethesda, Md. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Olney, Md. There will be a scripture service at 8:30 p.m. tonight at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. this evening at the church. Peters, 88, of Caseville died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, in St. Luke Hospital, St. Louis, Mo., near his daughter, Nancy. A funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Assumption Catholic Church, O'Fallon, Mo., with Knights of Columbus and military honors. Nicole Wolschleger Nicole Victoria Wolschleger, infant daughter of Raymond and Connie Wolschleger of Harbor Beach, was embraced by God's loving arms 16 days after her birth. She was born Aug. 13, 2000, in Saginaw to Raymond and Connie (Tenbusch) Wolschleger and passed away Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at the University of Michigan Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor. Nicole is survived by her parents; three brothers, Aaron, Raymond, Jr., and Eric, all at home; her maternal grandparents, Larry and Alberta Banker of Harbor Beach; and her paternal grandmother, Mary Wolschleger of Harbor Beach. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, William Tenbusch; and her paternal grandfather, Jerome Wolschleger. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach, with Fr. Gerald Kukla, pastor of Our Lady of Lake Huron Church, officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place from noon until the time of services Friday at the funeral home. Margaret Kressbach Margaret Elizabeth Kressbach, 73, of Sand Point died Monday afternoon, Aug. 28, 2000, in Grand Blanc at the home of her daughter after a long illness. She was born Dec. 27, 1926, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Earl and Grace (Voelker) Mattlin. On March 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to Robert W. Kressbach in Caro. He preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 1985. Margaret was a homemaker, living in Lapeer for 25 years where she was involved in the Child Study Club and bowling. They moved to Sand Point full time in 1976. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sand Point and the Caseville Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed square dancing and was a lifelong golfer. Surviving are one son, Robert W. Kressbach Jr., of Flushing; two daughters, Patricia Romanowski of Grand Blanc and Margaret Fansler and her husband, Doug, of Lapeer; three grandchildren, Hope McKay and her husband, Bryan, Bruce Fansler and his wife, Stephanie, and Derek Fansler; eight great-grandchildren, Aaron Raymond, Breann McKay, Cassandra Fansler, Heaven Fansler, Darrin Fansler, Julia Fansler, Victoriea Fansler and Sawyer Fansler; one sister, Virginia Moffat and her husband, Edward, of Ocala, Fla.; and one brother, Earl Mattlin, Jr., and his wife, Zoe, of Frankenmuth. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Sand Point. Vicar James Nihiser will officiate with burial in Caseville Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the National Marine Sanctuary or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Champagne Funeral Chapel is handling funeral arrangements. George Geiger George J. Geiger, 91, of Harbor Beach passed away Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, in the Long Term Care Unit of Harbor Beach Community Hospital following a short illness. Born April 1, 1909, in Harbor Beach, he was the son of the late Charles and Lena (Hessling) Geiger. George and Selma Lackowski were married June 23, 1936, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville. Together they farmed in Sand Beach Township all their lives. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Helena and the Men's Club. George was a lifetime farmer who enjoyed his family, farming, gardening and playing cards. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Selma Geiger of Harbor Beach; three sons, Larry Geiger and his friend, Rena Wanzer, Jim Geiger and his wife, Linda, and Dan Geiger, all of Harbor Beach; four daughters, Jean Talaski and her husband, LaVern, Arlene Cook and her husband, Tom, Cheryl Halifax and her husband, Gary, all of Harbor Beach and Barb Burkhard and her husband, Randy, of Saginaw; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence Geiger and Leo Geiger and his wife, Lucille, of Harbor Beach; and three sisters, Rita Booms and her husband, Leonard, Carolyn Legault and her husband, Ray, all of Harbor Beach and Evelyn Kraft of Detroit. George was preceded in death by an infant son, David; a grandson, Jared Halifax; two great- grandchildren, Tiffany and Matthew Talaski; a brother, Norman Geiger; and a sister, Emma Gentner. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena with the Rev. John Weiss, pastor of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Rapson, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A Men's Club rosary will take place at 8 p.m. tonight, and a parish vigil service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, both at Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Harbor Beach Library Grief Support and the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. William Hebner III Mr. William "Ford" Hebner III, 63, of Port Huron died Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, in Port Huron Hospital. He was born Oct. 31, 1936, in Port Huron to the late William Ford and Evelyn Marie (Haydet) Hebner Jr. He married Marilyn Louise Angbrandt on June 29, 1957, in Port Huron. Mr. Hebner was the owner and founder of Quality Mold Services in Marysville. He formerly worked for many years at Mueller Brass Co. and served his apprenticeships in tool and die and die-sinking while at Mueller Brass. He was a member and co-founder of the Huron County Genealogical Society, a member of the St. Clair County Family History Group, Port Huron Museum, American Molders Association and Society for Plastic Engineers. Mr. Hebner was president of the Annual Hebner Family Reunion for many years. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; a daughter, Diana M. Hebner of Port Huron; two sons, William Ford Hebner IV and his wife, Laura, of Cicero, Ind., and Michael E. Hebner of Kimball; two grandsons, William Ford Hebner V and Nicholas Ryan Hebner; a sister, Marilyn J. Hebner of Port Huron; a brother, Jack H. Hebner and his wife, Donna, of Port Huron; two brothers-in-law, Larry Angbrandt and his wife, Audrey, of Port Huron and Ron Angbrandt and his wife, Bev, of Kimball; and several nieces. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. The funeral liturgy begins at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, in Marysville Funeral Home with procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church for the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. The Rev. Rene Desmarais will officiate. The Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Port Huron. Pallbearers will be Ron and Larry Angbrandt, Michael Marriott, Loren Brandl, Jeff Hebner and Steve Siemen. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. tonight and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Port Huron Museum to purchase a memorial quilt square. Paul Konefke Paul Chester Konefke, 59, of Caseville died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at his home while under hospice care. He was born on June 19, 1941, in Detroit to the late Chester and Wanda (Zawacki) Konefke. On May 26, 1962, he was united in marriage to Patricia Hadam at St. Raymond Catholic Church in Detroit. After graduating from the police academy, Paul took a position with the Grosse Pointe Park Police Department. He retired in 1993, after 26 1/2 years of service. Paul found a vacation home near Caseville in 1991, and moved there permanently in 1996. He became a full-time officer with the Caseville Police Department that year and two years later, he was appointed police chief. He stepped down in April for health reasons. Paul had been coming to the Caseville area since he was a small boy, spending much of his summers there. He enjoyed the water, boating and fishing on Saginaw Bay. He was an antique buff and looked for good deals and old stuff wherever he could. His biggest love was his family, especially the grandchildren. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Pat; son Robert Konefke and his wife, Jessica, of Armada; daughters, Laurie Powers and her husband, William, of Lapeer and Paula Rzempale and her husband, Craig, of St. Clair Shores; eight grandchildren, Derek, Ryan, Kyle, Sarah, Scott, Taylor, Abby and Avery; brother, Peter Konefke of Huntington Woods and sister, Sharon Maiuri and her husband, John, of Sterling Heights. A funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, at St. Roch Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. Dennis Kucharczyk, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A scripture service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville. Visitation is from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral chapel and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or Clothe A Child. 1
