Huron Daily Tribune, Bad Axe, Michigan Local Obituaries Week of January 30, 2000 Sally Crane Mrs. Sally Crane, 66, of Tampa died Friday, Jan. 26, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital. She was the wife of the late Glen Crane. Mrs. Crane was born on June 12, 1933, in Bad Axe, daughter of the late Douglas E. and Laura (Cole) Phillips. She resided in Florida for more than 10 years, previously living in Michigan. She is survived by a brother, Russell Phillips of Palo Alto, Calif., and a sister, Rosemary Cole of Cheshire, Conn. Private funeral and burial services will be at the convenience of the family. The Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire is in charge of arrangements. Marian Glime Marian Glime,74, of Caseville died Thursday evening, Feb. 3, 2000, at her home following a long battle with respiratory problems. She was born June 9, 1925, in Redford Township to the late Clarence and Agnes (Polich) Dorset. On Dec. 26, 1945, she was united in marriage to Robert Glime in Farmington. They moved to Caseville in 1987 after his retirement. He preceded her in death on July 25, 1998. Surviving are her daughter, Jo Ann and her husband, Dennis, of Caseville; her son, David Glime and his wife, Bonita, of Milford; a granddaughter, Shawn Samel; and great-granddaughter, Jessy, both of Pigeon. Mrs. Glime was a private person who loved her family. In keeping with her wishes there will be no visitation or funeral services. Arrangements were handled by Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville. Marie Hintz Marie M. Hintz, 82, of Mud Creek died Monday morning, Jan. 31, 2000, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born April 10, 1917, in Detroit, daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Rodgers) Lobeck. On April 28, 1945, she was united in marriage to Frederick J. Hintz at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, St. Clair Shores. She and her husband started building their cottage near Mud Creek in 1968. In 1987, after retiring they moved here permanently from Eastpointe. Surviving are her husband of almost 55 years, Fred; her daughter, Joanna Graller of Davenport, Iowa; four grandchildren; a sister; and three brothers. A funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon, with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Bad Axe. Visitation will be from 2 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Frederick Volz Frederick R. Volz, 69, of Sebewaing died Tuesday evening, Feb. 1, 2000, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, Fla., following a two-and-a-half year illness. He was born June 27, 1930, in Bay City, son of the late Ruben E. and Martha H. (Bendler) Volz. He was united in marriage to Margaret A. Anderson in Dec. 28, 1950, in Pigeon. Fred was a self-employed Master Electrician for many years before retiring in 1993. He was a life member of New Salem Lutheran Church, had served on the board of elders, and as organist. He also was a member of the Sebewaing Lions Club where he currently was president and had 38 years perfect attendance. He was a board member of the Lions Bear Lake Camp for the Handicapped near Lapeer, was past District Governor for District 11D2 of Lions of Michigan and was a Melvin Jones Award recipient. He also was a licensed pilot, an avid golfer and past president of his league. Surviving are his wife, Margaret of Sebewaing; one son, David Volz and his wife, Karen, of Frankenmuth; two daughters, Joanne Brooks of Sebewaing and Julie Hickey and her husband, Kevin, of Mt. Pleasant; and five grandchildren, Rachel and Benjamin Volz, Matthew Brooks and Andreas and Kyle Hickey. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at New Salem Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. The Rev. William L. Mayhew will officiate with burial in the Silverlawn Cemetery. A Lions Memorial Service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday at the funeral home. He will lie in state from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services Sunday at the church. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, New Salem Lutheran Church or the Bear Lake Camp for the Handicapped. Ethel Upthegrove Ethel M. Upthegrove, 79, of Port Austin died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Saginaw. She was born Dec. 9, 1920, in Flint. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Bertha (Clark) Soward. Ethel graduated from high school at Flint Central. Miss Ethel Soward and Mr. John E. Upthegrove were married on May 14, 1941, at St. Michael's Parish House in Port Austin. The couple had been married more than 58 years. Ethel has been a resident of Port Austin for many years. She was the owner of manager of the Port Austin Theater, Putt-Putt Golf Course and Family Go Karts. She was involved with many civic and volunteer organizations, serving as junior director of Michigan State Junior Women's Clubs, charter member of Junior Priscilla Club, member of Senior Priscilla Club, director/coordinator of Thumb Ambulance, volunteered for many years as an emergency medical technician, served as president of the Port Austin School Board, was active in Girl Scouts for many years, was a charter member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla No. 1509 and served on the Division XV Board as secretary, a member of the Port Austin Fire Department Auxiliary and the Port Austin Chamber of Commerce. She is survived by her husband, John E. Upthegrove, Jr.; three sons, John H. Upthegrove and his wife, Sharon, Robert B. Upthegrove and his wife, Linda, all of Port Austin and David G. Upthegrove and his wife, Shirley, of Otisville; one daughter, Shirley A. Krajewski and her husband, Daniel, of Sterling Heights; 13 grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; two step-sisters, Carol and Bonnie Lent; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Eileen Doidge, Phyllis J. Jandreski and Ilah Miller. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Port Austin, with the Rev. Fr. Michael Bell, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. There will be a parish scripture service at 7 p.m. tonight at the MacAlpine Funeral Home Gage Chapel in Kinde. Visitation is from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Jacob Zelzenock Jacob D. Zelzenock, 90, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, Feb. 2, 2000, at his home. He was born Nov. 8, 1909, in Russia and came to the United States at the age of 8. He was united in marriage to Katherine R. Skachenko on April 13, 1940, in Bad Axe. She preceded him in death on April 12, 1994. Jacob was employed at the former Sebewaing Industries for 30 years before retiring in 1983. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sebewaing. He was an avid fisherman and especially loved to ice fish. Surviving are two sons and their wives, James Zelzenock and his wife, Kathleen, of Jackson and Jerry Zelzenock and his wife, Lynda, of Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren, Jody Lynn and Troy Stricker, Jason Lee Zelzenock, Jerry and Terry Zelzenock, Jr., Allen Zelzenock, Sara Firebaugh and David Omera, and Amanda Firebaugh; and two great- grandchildren, Sappha and Caleb. He was preceded in death by two brothers. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The Rev. Fred Wilson will officiate with cremation to follow. Inurnment will take place in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sebewaing. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Madeline McEachin Madeline G. McEachin, 74, passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in Venice, Fla. She was a Gagetown resident for many years. She graduated from Gagetown High School before her marriage in 1948 to Angus McEachin and was employed with Michigan Bell Telephone Co. for six years. Along with Angus, her loving husband of 52 years, she is survived by 10 children, Mary McEachin of Paw Paw, Grace Pfeiffer and her husband, William, of Mattawan, Daniel McEachin and his wife, Mary, of Troy, Frances Becker and her husband, William, of Huntington Woods, Neil McEachin of Eugene, Ore., Richard McEachin and Gerald McEachin, both of Ann Arbor, David McEachin and his wife, Judy, of Richmond, Va., JoAnn Steinfels and her husband, Horst, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and Paul McEachin and his wife, Karla, of Richmond, Va.; three brothers, Douglas Comment and Eugene Comment, both of Gagetown, and Raymond Comment of Rochester Hills; and 14 grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated with the Rev. Fr. Cornelius McEachin at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Gagetown. Victor Edwards Victor Lyle Edwards, 55, resident of Cass City and former resident of Bad Axe, died unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 31, 2000. He was born May 30, 1944, in Bad Axe. He was the son of Mildred (Mayworm) Edwards and the late William Edwards. Victor attended Bad Axe Public Schools. Victor liked to work on model cars and had an excellent memory. He is survived by his mother, Mildred Edwards, of Bad Axe; three brothers, Frank Edwards and his wife, Linda, of Bad Axe, William Edwards and his wife, Barb, of Benton Harbor and Gene Edwards and his wife, Janice, of Fort Huachuca, Ariz.; four sisters, Janette Minnick and her husband, Frank, of Bay City, Winnie Cleland and her husband, Gene, of Bad Axe, Beth Sabaugh of Sterling Heights and Connie Edwards of Royal Oak; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home, Bad Axe, with the Rev. Robert Srock, pastor of the Ubly United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Colfax Township Cemetery, Bad Axe. In keeping with the wishes of the family, there will be no visitation. Donald Schuman Donald R. Schuman, 71, a seven-year resident of Port Hope, formerly of Clinton Township, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Harbor Beach Community Hospital. He was born May 2,1928, in Detroit. He served in the U.S. Army in 1946 and 1947, stationed in the Philippines. He retired from Hercules Machine Tool and Die of Warren as a die try- out man in 1994. He was a member of the Senior Bowling League in Bad Axe. He is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn (Priester) Schuman; five sons, Rick Schuman and his wife, Dee, of St. Clair Shores, Danny Schuman and his wife, Cynthia, of Eastpointe, Larry Schuman and his wife, Sally, of St. Clair Shores, Mark Schuman and his wife, Lori, of Capac and Tracy Schuman and his wife, Marilyn, of Sterling Heights; one daughter, Cheryl Solorzano and her husband, Louis, of Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Edward Schuman and his wife, Dorothy, of Florida; and a sister, Jean Edwards and her husband, Frank, of Mancelona. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr at Masonic (13 1/2 Mile Rd.) in Warren. The Rev. Timothy Tyler will officiate. Frank Podczerviensky Frank Edward Podczerviensky, 70, co-owner of the Hitching Post Restaurant in Elkton, died in his sleep Monday morning, Jan. 31, 2000, after suffering a massive heart attack. He was born July 13, 1929, in Clarksville, Pa., to the late Joseph and Ursula (Domin) Podczerviensky. On Aug. 8, 1950, he was united in marriage to Lottie M. Leon at St. Florian Catholic Church in Hamtramck. After moving to North Branch in 1973, Frank worked as a pipe fitter for Warner/Lambert until 1986, when he retired. In 1987, he and his wife moved to Elkton and purchased the Hitching Post Inn after reading a "restaurant for sale" ad in a local newspaper. Frank, an avid amateur cook, always dreamt of owning a restaurant. It would become a prevailing passion in his life. Family and his home always came first. But he was also a free-spirit, a man who loved to joke. Surviving are his wife, Lottie; his son, Frank Podczerviensky and his wife, Jenny, of Herndon, Va.; two daughters, Diane Emrick and her husband, Duane, of North Branch and Shelly Podczerviensky of Bad Axe; six grandchildren, Lori, Gregery, Lindsey, Marissa, Jessica and Josephine; a sister, Nellie Jakary and her husband, Bruno, of Westland; his brother-in-law, Stanley Leon and his wife, Theresa; and many special friends. A funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at St. Felix Catholic Church in Pinnebog with Sr. Mary Schwartz and the Rev. Fr. Dennis Kucharczyk officiating. Donna Profit Donna L. Profit, 69, of Cass City died peacefully in her home on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, after a long struggle with cancer. She was born April 9, 1930, in Port Huron and adopted nine days later by Jason and Laura (Cook) Kitchen. She married Frederick James Profit on May 13, 1968, in Elkton. Donna worked at Kritzman's in Cass City for 20 years. She was a member of Cass City Missionary Church. She enjoyed crafts, flowers and watching birds. Donna was very excited that she recently found and met several members of her birth family. Donna is survived by her husband, Fred Profit; children Dennis Kessler and his wife, Nancy, of Cass City, Alexander Kessler and his wife, Carol, of Cass City, and Pamela Berridge of Taylor; grandchildren Rachal Koepf and her husband, Clem, Richard and Adam Kessler, Christopher Revis, and Ronald, Jason, Rebecca and Kelly Berridge; great-grandson, Ryan Allen Koepf; brother David Kitchen and his wife, Merle, of Port Huron; sister Emma Bullock and her husband, Ernest, of Decker; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jason and Laura Kitchen; and a brother, Clarence Kitchen of Cass City. Marie Buchholz Marie J. Buchholz, 80, of Pigeon passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at her home. She was born in Elkton on April 30, 1919, the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Kadeztka) Henne. She was united in marriage to Reinhardt William Buchholz on April 19, 1941. He preceded her in death on July 20, 1999. Mrs. Buchholz was a homemaker throughout her lifetime. She was a member of the Extension Club as well as the Farm Bureau. She was also a member of the St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon and the Altar Society. She is survived by six children, Patricia K. Kaelin of Royal Oak, Betty J. Taft and her husband, Richard, of Grand Blanc, Mary L. Furness and her husband, Burton, of Elkton, James W. Buchholz and his wife, Linda, of Trabuco Canyon, Calif., Phyllis M. Harris and her husband, Jeffrey, of Reston, Va., and Robert A. Buchholz and his wife, Terri, of Bryon Center; 11 grandchildren, Christopher, Jeremy, Melissa, Marc, Jason, Christina, Matthew, Emily, Rachael, Michelle and Katelyn; a great-grandson, Zachary; a sister, Bernice Stringer of Detroit; a brother, Edward Henne and his wife, Lillie, of California; a sister-in-law, Lucille Henne of Saginaw; and several nieces and nephews. Skiles, 63, of Deford died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City with the Rev. Mark Todd of Living Word Worship Center and grandson, the Rev. David Skiles of Grace and Restoration Fellowship Church in Brighton, officiating. Interment will be in Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Rawson Memorial Library or Mercy House in Detroit. Belinda Konrady Belinda Lee Konrady, 37, of Palms died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Huron Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in a car-train accident. She was born on July 26, 1962, in Cass City, the daughter of Sharon Kritzman and the late Marvin Warchuck. She married Steven E. Konrady on Aug. 8, 1988, in Palms at their residence. She was a 1980 graduate of Ubly High School. She lived in St. Clair before moving to the Palms area. She was co-owner and worked with her husband at S & B Drywall for 10 years prior to her accident. She enjoyed gardening, loved her pets and animals of all kinds, collected wizard figurines, did four-leaf clover hunting and enjoyed being with her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Steven, of Palms; her mother, Sharon Kritzman, of Minden City; three sisters, Brenda Loss and her husband, Rick, of Palms, Rhonda Sullivan and her husband, Jim, of Ubly, Lou Ann Warchuck and Ron Affer of Minden City; maternal grandmother, Iris Kritzman of Decker; six nieces; and nine nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Warchuck; her father-in-law, Louis Konrady; paternal grandparents, Joe and Mamie Warchuck; and her maternal grandfather, Harvey Kritzman. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at the Smigielski Funeral Home in Minden City. The Rev. Scott Markle, pastor of the Melvin Baptist Church, will officiate. Fred Yaroch Fred A. Yaroch, 66, of Port Austin died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000. He was born on April 19, 1933, in Port Austin, the son of the late Albert and Regina (Inda) Yaroch. He and Joan Upton were married in Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Roseville on July 6, 1957. He served in the United States Army in Alaska during the Korean War. He started his own excavating business in 1958 and the first permanent asphalt plant in Huron County in 1965. Fred was a member of St. Michael's Parish in Port Austin, the American Legion, Frank Horetski Post No. 499 and the Antique Auto Club. He enjoyed his work, gardening, fishing, playing the accordion and giving his grandchildren tractor rides. He is survived by his wife, Joan, of Port Austin; five daughters, Miriam Parrone and her husband, Paul, of Rochester, N.Y., Rebecca Hirn and her husband, James, of Bad Axe, Anne Brown and her husband, Ken, of Grand Prairie, Texas, Elizabeth Yaroch of Ann Arbor and Ellen Yaroch of Bad Axe; seven grandchildren, Meghan and Lauren Ordus, Bridget and Michael Parrone, Addison Brown, James Mitchell and Madison Hirn; and one brother, Sylvester Yaroch of Center Line. Harold Brade Harold Mile Brade, 72, of Kinde in Dwight Township died Saturday morning, Jan. 29, 2000, at his home following an apparent heart attack. He was born June 11, 1927, in Kinde. He was the son of the late Erich and Bertha (Poppeck) Brade. Harold attended the Morrison Country School in Dwight Township. Mr. Harold Brade and Miss Wanda Lee Pell were married on Feb. 18, 1950, in Detroit. He owned and operated his farm in Dwight Township. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Kinde and the Grindstone-Port Hope Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving are his wife, Lee, of Kinde; two sons, Jerald Brade and his wife, Betty, of Bad Axe, and Gene Brade and his wife, Jenny, of Bad Axe; six grandchildren, Christy Means, Loretta Booms, Scott Brade, Timothy Brade, Kimberly Brade and Cathy Brade; two step- grandchildren, Andrea Horton and Sheri Horton; one great-grandchild, Casey Blackstock; three sisters, Ottelia Wessels of Bad Axe, Hadie Young of Bad Axe, and Lydia Matelski of Kinde; one sister-in-law, Blanche Brade of Kinde; and several nieces and nephews.
