She was born in Harbor Beach to Lenius M. Dekker and Gertrude Oostdyke Dekker. As a young adult she taught Sunday School and wrote for the Harbor Beach Times. After graduating from the Northeastern Michigan School of Commerce, she was employed by the Ford Automobile agency in Harbor Beach and also learned to fly at the local airstrip. On Sept. 16, 1931 she married Robert A. Jean of Bay City. They were the loving parents of Thomas Henry Jean and Bethel Kay Jean Steinert. She enjoyed serving as Boy Scout and Girl Scout leaders along with being active in the Mount Vernon and Bangor Central Parent Teachers Association. Bob and Lucile owned Woodside Hardware from 1958 to 1967 and considered each customer to be a personal friend. They retired to Caseville where they enjoyed frequent visits with their grandchildren, children and friends. Lucile was an enthusiastic member of the Caseville Library Club and an advocate of the Huron County Nature Center Wilderness Arboretum. Bob preceded her in death in 1971. Lucile married Emory Ward in 1973 and divided her time between Riva, Maryland and Caseville. After Emory's death in 1977, Lucile maintained residence in Caseville and Venice, Fla., where she was an avid swimmer. She is survived by her sister, Gertrude Wells, and her husband, Harry, of Nokomis, Fla.; a son, Tom Jean and his wife, Mary, of Roscommon; a daughter, Beth Steinert and her husband, Darryl, of Madison, Ind., and New Orleans La.; granddaughters Kathy Kersgard and her husband, Michael, of Greeley, Colo., Amy Barron and her husband, Jim of Livonia, Molly Gallagher and her husband, Tom, of Ann Arbor, Marcie Compton and her husband Marten, of Anchorage, Alk.; one grandson Dr. Dirk Steinert and his wife, Patty of Ottawa, Ill.; 10 great grandchildren, Kevin, Mallory, Courtney, Ashley, Maria, Lauren, Shane, Elle, Conlin and Will; one sister-in-law, Mary June Priestkorn Hollander Wilkerson; three nieces, a nephew; and several cherished cousins and friends. Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Henry Hollander, and brother Dr. John H. Hollander. A memorial service will take place at a later date at the Harbor Beach Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to the Harbor Beach Presbyterian Church or the Dekker Haus museum in Zeeland. Arrangements are by the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach. Irma Weiss Irma L. Weiss, 92, of Port Austin, passed away Saturday Nov. 10, 2001 at the Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born on Dec. 4, 1908 in Port Austin, daughter of the late Charles and Emma (Vizneau) Weiss. Irma was a life-long resident of Port Austin. She was a teacher at the Grindstone City School for a few years and taught in Bay City Schools for several years until she retired. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin and the Port Austin Senior Citizens. She was a past member of the U & I Club in Port Austin. Irma enjoyed traveling and playing cards with her sisters and her friends. She is survived by a number of cousins. Irma was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Weiss and Marguerite Neinas. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2001 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. Rev. Robert J. Pare will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 until 9 p.m. today at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at the church. A vigil will take place at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Monday, November 12, 2001 Mary Ann Cove Mary Ann (Peruski) Cove, 78, of Bad Axe died at her home Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, after a short illness. She was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Detroit, daughter of the late Julius and Anne (Shubert) Peruski. She was the wife of 45 years to Mial John Cove, who preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 1988. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 62 years. She enjoyed writing books, songs and poetry, and received many honors for her writings. She is survived by three daughters, Gloria Davidson and her husband, Harold, of Bad Axe, Bonnie Gomez and her husband, Charles, of Caro, and Shirley Lemanski and her husband, Leo, of Ortonville; two sisters, Isabella Powierski of St. Clair Shores and Loretta Okoniewski and her husband, Norbert, of Shelby Township; a half-brother, Larry Peruski and his wife, Kay, of Detroit; 13 grandchildren; 21 great- grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 15 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Leo J. Lemanski; her stepmother, Rose Peruski; and her half-brother, Joseph Peruski. Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Fr. John Killop will preside. Burial will take place at St. John's Cemetery in Ubly. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe is handling arrangements. Memorials may be given to the Family Discretionary Fund. Tuesday, November 13, 2001 Donald Weisenbach Donald H. Weisenbach, 75, of Port Austin died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, in Mesa, Ariz. He was born Dec. 30, 1925, to the late William and Evelyn Weisenbach. He was united in marriage to Nellie "Betty" Day on Aug. 23, 1947. Donald's hobbies were golf and work. He was employed by Chrysler Corp. for nine and a half years. He was an Amoco dealer for 33 years. He is survived by his wife, Nellie; a son, Ronald Weisenbach and his wife, Mary Jane, of Port Austin; a daughter, Dianna Rapson of St. Clair Shores; one sister, Grace Hynek and her husband, Miles, of Bad Axe; four grandchildren, Ronald Weisenbach and his wife, Cathy, of Warren, Rebecca Harris and her husband, Todd, of Centerline, Heather Weisenbach of Chicago, Ill., and Cara Rapson of St. Clair Shores; three step-grandchildren, Mary Jane LeMere and her husband, Jerry, of Warren, Michael Fisher and his wife, Patricia, of Roseville, and Steven Fisher of Eastpointe; two great- grandchildren, Brooklyn Harris and Veronica Weisenbach; and four step-great- grandchildren, Amber, Michael and Zachary Fisher and Brett LaMere. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Wilbert, Owen and Paul; and three sisters, Alice, Evelyn and Doris. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home-Gage Chapel in Kinde with burial in New River Cemetery. Elder Dale Day of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will officiate. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Family Discretionary Fund. Wednesday, November 14, 2001 Wanda Macomber Wanda Wilson Macomber, 74, of Lower Allen Township, Pa., a recognized area painter, died of metastatic breast cancer Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, in Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, Pa., near Harrisburg. She was born Feb. 14, 1927, in Ubly, daughter of the late Frank and Pearl Wilson of Ubly. Frank Wilson was a founder of Thumb Electric Cooperative and its first president. Wanda and her sister Ruth turned the control wheel to start the generators at the dedication of the Ubly plant on June 18, 1938. She was a graduate of Ubly High School and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Art Association of Harrisburg. She studied at the former Pittsburgh Art Alliance and her work was juried in to numerous exhibitions in the mid-Atlantic region, and her paintings are in public and private collections statewide. She was the recipient of many regional and statewide awards for shows at the Museum of Pennsylvania, the Art Association of Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg Art Center and the former Doshi Center. Surviving are her husband, Victor Macomber of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; a son, Dwight Macomber of Devon, Pa.; a daughter, Gay Lewis of Steelton, Pa.; a brother, James Wilson of Cave Creek, Ariz.; and a sister, Ruth Phillips of Peoria, Ariz. Memorial services took place on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at Grace United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 216 State St., Harrisburg, PA 17101-1188, or to the American Cancer Society (memo: breast cancer research) 1500 N. Second St., Harrisburg, PA 17102. Myers Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg handled funeral arrangements. Thursday, November 15, 2001 Bernard Myszkowski Bernard J. Myszkowski, 82, of Caseville died Wednesday morning, Nov. 14, 2001, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. He was born July 30, 1919, in Detroit to the late Anthony and Mary (Blasziewicz) Myszkowski. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during World War II. Surviving are his brother, Jerome Myszkowski and his wife, Martha Mary, of Redford; two sisters, Leona Wank of Farmington Hills and Rita Rembowicz of Allen Park; three nieces; three nephews; and his caregiver for the past several years, Dale Wills of Caseville. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services. After cremation, his cremains will be taken to Detroit. Arrangements were handled by Champagne Funeral Chapel, Caseville. Friday, November 16, 2001 Robert Graves Robert J. Graves, 72, of Sebewaing died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at his home. He was born May 16, 1929, in Sebewaing, son of the late Robert F. and Vera (Truesdale) Graves. He was united in marriage to Ruth L. Bailey on Oct. 3, 1984, in Bad Axe. Bob was employed at Michigan Sugar Co. in Sebewaing for 37 years before retiring in 1991. He also was a self-employed commercial fisherman for many years. Surviving are his wife, Ruth, of Sebewaing; two sons, Ronald Graves and his wife, Mary, and Gary Graves; one daughter, Shelly Heckroth and her husband, Randy, all of Caro; two stepsons, William Bailey and his wife, Liz, of Salinas, Calif. and James Bailey; two stepdaughters, Wanda Koch and Jean Bailey, all of Phoenix; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, James and David Graves; and one brother, Clarence Graves. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The Rev. Gordon Burger will officiate with burial in Silverlawn Cemetery in Sebewaing. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Myrtle Veldman Myrtle "Peg" Veldman, 79, of Harbor Beach passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw, following a short illness. Arrangements are being handled by the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach, and are incomplete at this time. A complete obituary will appear in Sunday's Huron Daily Tribune. 1
