Local obituaries for the week of August 12, 2001 Sunday, August 12, 2001 Bernice Eidt Bernice L. Eidt, 98, of Pigeon passed away Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, at Carriage House in Bay City. She was born in Elkton on Nov. 19, 1902, daughter of the late William and Melvina (Beaver) Schiele. On March 18, 1925, she was united in marriage to Orville L. Eidt in Elkton. He preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1995. Mrs. Eidt was a homemaker throughout her lifetime. She was active in church work, serving as pianist in the Owendale Methodist Church for many years, and giving lessons to the younger children. She was a member of the Elkton Senior Citizens, as well as a lifetime member of the Huron County Medical Care Facility Auxiliary, which she joined in 1955, and for whom she served as secretary for more than 20 years. She was also a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Pigeon. She is survived by a daughter, Elaine "Marge" Parker and her husband, William, of Clawson; a son, Clark Eidt and his wife, Barbara, of Sebewaing; six grandchildren, Rodney Parker and his wife, Colleen, Terry Freysinger, David Eidt and his wife, Kay, Cathy Kretzschmer, Daniel Eidt and John Eidt; three great- grandsons, Billy Freysinger, Anthony Eidt and Cole Eidt; and a sister, Marguerite Erne and her husband,Judson, of Columbus, Ind. The funeral service and burial will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at the White Chapel Cemetery in Troy with the Rev. DeWeerd Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday at the White Chapel Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Bay Shore Camp in Sebewaing. Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, A Golden Rule Funeral Home, Pigeon, is conducting the arrangements. Daisy Stalter Daisy C. Stalter, 83, of Pigeon passed away Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born on June 30, 1918, in New Germany, Md. She was raised in Pigeon by her foster parents, Tom and Fannie Yoder and graduated from Pigeon High School. On Oct. 30, 1938, she was united in marriage to Timothy W. Stalter at the Pigeon River Mennonite Church by the Rev. Michael Zehr. Mrs. Stalter was a homemaker throughout her lifetime and enjoyed flower gardening as well as sewing, crocheting and knitting. She was a member of the Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church in Pigeon. Besides Timothy, her husband of 62 years, she is survived by five sons, Darwin Stalter and his wife, Harriet, of Gagetown, Delton Stalter and his wife, Dee, of Millersburg, Ohio, Galen Stalter and Gary Stalter, both of Spartansburg, S.C. and Randy Stalter and his wife, Cynthia, of Union, S.C.; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Kauffman of Flint; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother. The funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at the Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church with the Rev. Scot Wilson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 2:30 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, a Golden Rule Funeral Home, in Pigeon and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Monday, August 13, 2001 Regina Ignash Regina Ignash, 83, of Port Austin died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at the Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born on Sept. 18, 1917, the daughter of the late Joseph and Eleanor Justewicz. She and Michael Poloski were married in Detroit, on Feb. 7, 1942. He preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1951. On Nov. 21, 1953, Regina married Louis Ignash at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. He preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 1974. Regina was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 499 in Port Austin. She was also a member of St. Michael's Church, as well as the Holy Rosary Sodality. She is survived by two daughters, Lorraine Voss and her husband, Franklin, of Port Austin, and Betty Prill and her husband, Benny, of Kinde; seven grandchildren, Dennis, David, Jennifer and James Luttman, Laurie Schoenfeldt, Gerald and Susan Prill; four great-grandchlidren, Josephine, Mackenzie, Lauren and Madison; two sisters, Irene Knoblock of Bad Axe and Aurelia Krumenacker of Port Austin. She was preceded in death by one son, Gerald; two great-grandsons; and one brother, John. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin with the Rev. John Killop officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be a memorial service by the American Legion Post 499 Auxiliary at 7 p.m. today and a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Josephine Yaroch Josephine Yaroch, 87, of Fraser died Aug. 9, 2001. Visitation was from 2 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at Kaul Funeral Home in Clinton Township. Tuesday, August 14, 2001 - None Wednesday, August 15, 2001 Irene Bader Irene H. Bader, 93, of Snover, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, in Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born Feb. 1, 1908, at home in Evergreen Township, Sanilac County to Daniel and Ethel (Bond) McNaughton. She married Lloyd L. Bader on June 16, 1931, in Cass City. He died March 21, 1997. Irene loved to cook and bake. She loved spending time with her family. She was a member of the Shabbona United Methodist Church and Shabbona Extension. Irene is survived by her children, Robert Bader and his wife, Shirley, of Decker, Marjorie Caister and her husband, Arthur, of Cass City, Helen Hubbard and her husband, Newell, of Kingston, Donna Auten and her husband, Gerald, of Cass City, Dale Bader and his wife, Sandra, of Cass City, Wanda Parrott and her husband, Ronald, of Troy, and Audrey Halas of Royal Oak; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Burns of Cass City; brother, Elwyn McNaughton and his wife, Mary, of Cass City; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Belva McIntosh and Hazel Stoutenburg. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at Shabbona United Methodist Church in Shabbona with the Rev. Ellen Burns officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Thursday, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday in the church. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery in Cass City. Julia Gouine Julia Gouine, 76, of Minden City died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at her residence. A funeral mass will be said at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. today, from 1 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, and from 8 to 9 a.m. on Friday, at the Zinger- Smigielski Funeral Home of Ubly. There will be a service at 7:15 p.m. today by the Parisville VFW Auxiliary, a rosary by the St. Mary Rosary Sodality at 7 p.m. on Thursday, and a vigil for the deceased at 8 p.m. on Thursday. All the services will be at the funeral home. A complete obituary will be in Thursday's edition of the Huron Daily Tribune. Thursday, August 16, 2001 John Clara Dr. John R. "Jack" Clara, 64, of Cass City passed away Sunday morning, Aug. 12, 2001. He was born on July 31, 1937, in Cass City, the son of George and Maxine (Ricker) Clara. On June 24, 1960, he married Caren Cummings. He attended Central Michigan University and graduated from The University of Michigan Medical School in 1964. After serving an internship at Saginaw General Hospital, he entered the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed in Japan from 1965 until 1969. Upon his return from his tour of duty, he served as residency at the University of Minnesota, and practiced in radiology at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, Minn. He returned to Cass City, and practiced at Hills and Dales General Hospital and at Scheurer Hospital until his retirement. Dr. Clara was a member of the Huron County Medical Society, The Michigan State Medical Association, the American Medical Association, and The University of Michigan Alumni Association. Surviving are his wife, Caren; daughter, Kristin Doerr and her husband, Thomas, MD, of Traverse City; son, Matthew Clara of Grand Ledge and his fiance, Cathleen Jenkins; grandson, Cameron Clara; father, George Clara of Cass City; mother- in-law, Gertrude Cummings of Mt. Pleasant. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine, in November of 2000. Memorial services for John Clara, M.D., will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at Cass City United Methodist Church, with Dr. Phillip Rice officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The family has suggested memorials to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the University of Michigan Medical School, or the charity of the donor's choice. Monte Gordon Monte W. Gordon, 59, of West Palm Beach, Fla. died unexpectedly at his home of an apparent heart attack on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000. He was born Jan. 20, 1940, in Port Crescent, son of Cecilia and the late Jack R. Gordon. Monte served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is survived by three children, Cindy Falck of Gainesville, Fla., Kimberly Trask, and Kevin Gordon, both of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; and his mother, Cecilia Gordon of Port Austin; four brothers, Peter and his wife, Nancy, of Tucson, Ariz., Jack and his wife, Gloria, of Troy, David and his wife, Kay, and Greg and his wife, Lana, both of Port Austin; four sisters, Janice Warren and her husband, Robert, of Heber Springs, Ark., Sharon Butterworth and her husband, Tom, of Haverhill, Mass., Debra Schumacher and her husband, James, of Port Austin, and Pamela Finan and her husband, Pat, of Vancouver, Wash. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Patricia Ann; and his father, Jack. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at the Port Austin Township Cemetery. The Rev. Robert P. Garrett will officiate. Local arrangements are being handled through the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. Julia Gouine Mrs. Julia A. Gouine, 76, of Minden City passed away Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at her residence. She was born on July 26, 1925, in Parisville to the late John and Clara (Kubacki) Hill. Julia was a graduate of a country school. She then moved and worked in the Detroit area before returning to Parisville. She worked at Michigan Peat and did home decorating for many years. Julia was a nurses aide at the Sandusky Medical Care and the Deckerville Hospital doing home care at residences. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville and a member of the Rosary Sodality. She assisted in the St. Mary Parisville Picnic for many years. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post in Ruth. Julia is survived by two sons, Dennis Badger and his wife, Anne, of Ubly and Douglas Badger and his fiancee, Laura Goetze, of Ubly; three daughters, Debra Molitor and her husband, Dr. James, D.D.S., of Harbor Beach, Cindy Klee and her husband, David, of Harbor Beach, Dawn Bruderick and her husband, Mark, of Clarkston; 18 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Adeline Jurgelonis of Ubly and Marion Bodalski of New Baltimore. Julia was preceded in death by three sons, Kenneth, Gary and Thomas; one daughter, Denise; one brother, Gerald Hill; three husbands, Edision Badger, Jerry Stirs, and Henry "Bud" Gouine. Funeral mass for Julia Gouine will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville. The Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be a rosary by the St. Mary Rosary Sodality at 7 p.m. today and a vigil service at 8 p.m. All services will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Visitation will be from 1 to 9:30 p.m. today, and from 8 to 9 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Clemens Roggenbuck Clemens E. Roggenbuck, 73, of Harbor Beach passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at his home under hospice care following a long illness. Born in Helena on July 24, 1928, he was the son of the late Edward and Rose (Lorkowski) Roggenbuck. He and Ruby Morley were united in marriage on Nov. 20, 1950, in Harbor Beach. Clem is a retired employee of the Sobczak Construction Co. in Bad Axe and was a former employee of the Booms Silo Co., the Booms Construction Co., and the Hogan Construction Co. Clem enjoyed being in his garden and doing wood crafts. He was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. Clem is survived by his wife, Ruby Roggenbuck of Harbor Beach; his children, Alvin Roggenbuck and his wife, Marjory, of Harbor Beach, Sharon Rice and her husband, Gary, of Port Hope, Loretta Binicki and her husband, Larry, of Harbor Beach, Steve Roggenbuck and his wife, Donna, of Harbor Beach, Stan Roggenbuck and his wife, Barb, of Harbor Beach, and Ken Roggenbuck and his wife, Connie, of Harbor Beach; a step-son, Brad Neal and his wife, Pam, of Jeddo; 18 grandchildren; three brothers, Chester Roggenbuck of Rochester Hills, Fred Roggenbuck of Clinton Township, Richard Roggenbuck of Clinton Township; three sisters, Ester Braun of Harbor Beach, Rita Maczitti of Royal Oak, and Beatrice Kubacki of Onaway. He was preceded in death by a son, Clemens; a brother, Tom Roggenbuck; and three sisters, Barb Talaski, Jean Braun, and Loretta Roggenbuck. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in the Ramsey Funeral home. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, and from 1 to 9 p.m. on Friday in the Ramsey Funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the church. Friday, August 17, 2001 Verne Hind Verne L. "Jim" Hind, 75, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, on his farm in Colfax Township. He was born on Sept. 17, 1925, in Bad Axe, son of the late William Harry and Ida (White) Hind. Mr. Hind and Euortta Witherspoon were married in Kinde on Dec. 1, 1951. Jim, a member of the National Farmer Organization, devoted his life to farming. He also enjoyed working in his shop. Surviving are his wife, Euortta, of Bad Axe; one son, Mac Hind of Bad Axe; one daughter, Joy Hind of Virginia; two brothers, Lorne Hind and his wife, Denise, of Bad Axe, Dale Hind and his wife, Dolores (Dolly), of Bad Axe; one sister, Lona Humphrey of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Amanda Hind. Jim was preceded in death by two sisters, Ava Hind and Norine Stoelting. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Vicar Robert M. Niehus of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Kinde will officiate. Burial will be at Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 1 to 9 p.m. Memorials may be offered to the family. 1
