(Myers) Fauser, 92, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Bay Medical Care Facility in Essexville following a one-month illness. She was born Nov. 10, 1908, in Kilmanagh, daughter of the late Frederick H. and Marie A. (Radloff) Thede. She was married to Elmer A. Myers on April 8, 1928. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1959. She then married John G. Fauser on June 28, 1963. He died on March 11, 1964. Elmer and Alice owned and operated Myers & Riedel Hardware and Dry Goods Store in Sebewaing. Alice continued to run the store until her health started to diminish four years ago when she sold it to Antiques-by-the-Bridge and the Antique Inn. Alice was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Surviving are one son, James C. Myers and his wife, Jean, of Sebewaing; two grandchildren, Scott Myers and his wife, Tari, and Crystal Gaeth and her husband, Neil, all of Sebewaing; seven great- grandchildren; one sister, Mamie E.V. Nieschultz, Lapeer; special nephew, Frank Heiman and his wife, Leah, of Sebewaing; many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by infant daughter, Peggy Ruth Myers; four sisters, Elsie Bolzman, Alma Kundinger, Lillian Heiman and Viola Haist; four brothers, Oscar, Otto, Arthur and Howard "Bud" Thede; one granddaughter, Peggy Schulz. The funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. The Rev. Charles Kuhl will officiate with burial in the Silverlawn Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 6 to 9 tonight and 1 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. She will lie in state at the church from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until the time of service. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Immanuel Lutheran Church Air Conditioning Fund. Albertus "Mike" Guster Mike Guster, 76, of Lake Township near Caseville, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. He was born Sept. 3, 1924, to the late Sam and Eva (Niess) Guster in Detroit. On Nov. 10, 1952, he was united in marriage to Barbara Young at St. Felix Church in Pinnebog. Mike lived in the Caseville area all his life. He was a bartender at the Riverside Bar a number of years before he began working at Michigan Oven in 1956, retiring in 1988 after 32 years. He served in the army during WWII in Italy and was a past member of the Caseville Legion. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. Surviving are his wife, Barbara; four sons, Mitchell Guster and his wife, Gail, of Caseville, Joe Guster of Lake Township, Robert Guster and his wife, Barbara, of Pinnebog, and Jerry Guster and his wife, Amy, of Lake Township; three grandchildren, Michael, Daniel and Samantha; one great-grandson, Chad; one brother, John Guster and his wife, Jean, of Caseville; two sisters, Bertha Donahue and her husband, Gordon, of Kinde and Theresa Briesmeister of Caseville. He was preceded in death by a son, Ricky; a daughter, Debra; two brothers, Sam and Robert; two sisters, Mary Himmel and Kathy Guster. Visitation will be from 2 until 9 p.m. Monday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville. In keeping with his wishes, there will be a private service with burial in St. Roch Cemetery, Caseville. Memorials may be directed to St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville or Courtney Manor, Bad Axe. Beatrice A. Matthews Beatrice A. Matthews, 89, of Pigeon passed away Friday, May 11, 2001, at Sunny Acres Nursing Center near Bad Axe. She was born on June 29, 1911, in Macomb County, the daughter of the late Ahardt and Elizabeth (Moore) Eisenhardt. On Dec. 12, 1947, she was united in marriage to Gilbert E. Matthews. The couple lived in New Baltimore from 1943 through 1977, when they moved to Pigeon. Mr. Matthews preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 1998. Mrs. Matthews was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, cooking, quilting and gardening. Her survivors include a daughter, Lois Mae Stover and her husband, William, of New Baltimore; a son, Marvin O. Matthews of Pigeon; 11 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Lenora Matthews; three sisters; three brothers. Funeral arrangements are conducted by Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home in Pigeon. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Lawrence B. Messing Mr. Lawrence B. Messing, 81, of Ruth died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Courtney Manor of Bad Axe. He was born July 8, 1919, in Ruth, son of the late Henry and Helen (Tenbusch) Messing. He married Margaret Ulfig on Nov, 30, 1940, at St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville. She preceded him in death on July 23, 1978. He attended SS. Peter and Paul Elementary School. He farmed with his dad. He worked at Hercules for 34 years and retired in 1981. He was a member of the Ruth Knights of Columbus Council #3823 and a lifelong parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Church of Ruth. He enjoyed playing cards and visiting with his family and friends. He is survived by three daughters, Lorraine Wolschlager and her husband, Melvin, of Bad Axe, Linda Shaheen and her husband, Gulrez, of Germany, and Sharon Osak and her husband, Jerry, of Ida; three sons, Gary Messing and his wife, Marsha, of Sterling Heights, Linus Messing of Houghton Lake, and Clifford Messing and his wife, Rose, of Lake Orion; 16 grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard Messing and his wife, Theresa, of Harbor Beach and Andrew Messing of Bad Axe; four sisters, Anna Essenmacher of Bad Axe, Magdeline Kranz of Bad Axe, Dorothy Roggenbuck of Harbor Beach, and Eleanor Adler and her husband, John, of Ruth. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo, Walter, and Arthur; three sisters, Helen Kirsch, Clara Clor, and Irene Samulski; infant daughter, Helen; and a grandson, Bruce Messing in 1999. Monday, May 14, 2001 Caroline LaForge Caroline C. LaForge, 62, of Caseville died Sunday evening, May 13, 2001, at her home while under hospice care. She was born July 7, 1938, in Mount Clemens to the late John and Anna (Garris) Gardner. Caroline married Bill Hunt in 1954 in Roseville and they parted in 1976. On Sept. 24, 1977, she was united in marriage to Richard S. LaForge at Erin Presbyterian Church in Roseville. She was an active member of the Caseville Eagles Auxiliary and a past member of the Erin Presbyterian Church in Roseville. She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. She also enjoyed having her cat, Patches, nearby. Surviving are her husband, Richard; three daughters, Debra Stroh and her husband, Albert, of Omer, Teresa Edwards and her husband, Dennis, of Warren, and Patricia Tucker and her husband, Douglas, of Memphis; two step-children, Richard LaForge of Roseville and Laura Rumble and her husband, Keith, of Warren; 12 grandchildren; one brother, Gary Gardner and his wife, Carol, of Ferndale; and three sisters, Joann Brooks and her husband, Ken, of East Pointe, Beverly Lord of Warren, and Donna Calomeni and her husband, Jim, of Richmond. Preceding her in death was a son, Alan Hunt; a daughter, Mary Ellen Hunt; and a brother, Edward Gardner. Engelhardt, 78, of Au Gres passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Standish Community Hospital. He was born on June 25, 1922, to John and Emma Engelhardt in Kilmanagh. Vic owned and operated Vic's Mackinaw Bar for 29 years. He is survived by his wife, Louise; daughters, Ellen Kaniezewski and her husband, Walt, Nancy Nowak and her husband, Chuck; sons, Wayne Engelhardt and his wife, Mary, and Don; a brother, Orin Engelhardt and his wife, Frances; a sister, Florence Kundinger and her husband, Edward; grandchildren, Jason Kaniezewski and his wife, Staci, Carie LaPond and her husband, Paul, Erin Kaniezewski, Marci Downey and her husband, Brady, Lyndsey Nowak, Tricia and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Mason, Morgan and Quinn; and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of their children, Dora; and brother Arnold. Long, 92, of Colfax Township died Monday, May 14, 2001, at Courtney Manor Nursing Center in Bad Axe. He was born on July 22, 1908, at Colfax Township, son of the late Joseph and Isabell (Cole) Long. Charles lived in Colfax Township and farmed most of his life. He attended the Colfax McDowell Rural County School. He was survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Edith McNeil; two brothers, Ernest Long and Earl Long. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Burial will be at Colfax Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be offered to donor's choice. Cirilo Martinez Cirilo B. Martinez, 77, of Saginaw and formerly of Caro, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Tendercare in Saginaw. He was born Feb. 9, 1924, in Castroville, Texas. Cirilo married Pauline Sturgis, and she preceded him in death on July 13, 1973. They returned to Texas and then moved to Michigan 50 years ago. He had worked in the automotive industry in the Pontiac area and then moved to Tuscola County. He was a volunteer for social services and had received an award from the organization for his services. He is survived by eight children, Jesse Martinez and Carol Catt of Caro, Andrew Martinez and Linda Leahey of Caro, Gloria Aguilera of Austin, Texas, Jonathon Martinez of Watertown, S.D., Michael Martinez of Caro, Cecil and Penny Martinez of Watertown, S.D., Carol and Douglas Mills of Cass City, and Sarah and Leroy Ocker of Lake Orion; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Pete Martinez and Amellio Martinez of San Antonio, Texas; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Sturgis; one son, Danny; two grandchildren; and six brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be conducted at the Caro Assembly of God Church at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2001, with Pastor Arnold Burger officiating. Burial will be at the Indianfields Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until the time of service at the church on Wednesday. Wednesday, May 16, 2001 - None Thursday, May 17, 2001 Daniel Cooper Daniel Lee Root Cooper, 46, of Cass City died suddenly on Tuesday, May 15, 2001, in Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. He was born August 1, 1954, in Cass City to Elmer J. and Mary Ann (Vargo) Root. He married Sally A. Severance on Sept. 28, 1985 in Shabbona. Dan worked for Active Feeds in Owendale. He previously worked as a DHIA technician in Sanilac County for 12 years. He was a member of Shabbona United Methodist Church and played on the church softball team. Dan was a Little League baseball coach and an assistant minor league baseball coach. He enjoyed his yearly rabbit hunting trip and enjoyed gardening. Dan was a big NASCAR Racing fan. Dan is survived by his wife, Sally; son, Brent Daniel Cooper at home; parents Max and Mary Ann Cooper of Cass City; brothers, Timothy Cooper and his wife, Jean, of Greenleaf, Wis., E. Joe Cooper and his wife, Holly, of Owendale and Jerry Cooper and his wife, Renee, of Colwood; father- in-law and mother-in-law, Art and Janet Severance of Decker; brothers-in-law, Dean Severance and his wife, Laura, of Winston Salem, N.C., Tim Severance and his wife, Roxann, of Palatine, Ill., Randy Severance and his wife, Deb, of Decker, Beth O'Parka and her husband, Doug, of Cass City; many nieces and nephews; Sally's grandparents, Lloyd and Esther Severance of Decker, Virginia Auslander of Decker. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. today, 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund. Friday, May 18, 2001 John Donohue John C. Donohue, 79, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 16, 2001, with his wife at his side. He was born March 16, 1922, to the late John and Eleanor (Cook) Donohue in Detroit. On Feb. 23, 1952, he was united in marriage to Shirley Sluiter at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Detroit. Jack began his career in real estate and city service in 1944 as a clerk for the Michigan Employment Security Commission in Detroit. In 1951, he also became an associate broker and agent for Legion Realty in Roseville. In 1960, he put his real estate license in escrow in order to devote more time to his growing family. As a 32-year resident of Roseville, he was an active supporter of the Brabiec High School Band Boosters and the Diplomat Drum and Bugle Corp. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and a member of the Roseville Planning Commission. He and his wife of 49 years, Shirley, were also active with sacramental marriage encounter and were featured as "rookie" speakers at a national convention in Michigan. Jack retired from MESC in January 1986 as the director of field operations and received many commendations, which include one from Secretary of State Candice S. Miller as notary to Huron County, U.S. Army recruiting, Service Employees International Union, International Association of Personnel Employee Security, U.S. Department of Labor Veterans Employee Service, United Auto Workers Award from President Owen Bieber and a 40 Years Commendation from MESC. In September of 1987, he retired with his wife to the shores of Lake Huron near Port Austin. He began a new career as an associate broker for Huron Realty in Port Austin and then at Huron Realty in Bad Axe. He had the distinction of holding the oldest real estate license in Huron County. During his 14 years as a Port Austin resident he was active in politics as a member of the Huron Township board of review and the zoning board of appeals. He was especially noted, to the entertainment of many, for his "letters to the editor" in the Huron Daily Tribune. His favorite hobbies were golf and real estate. Surviving are his wife, Shirley; his daughter, Karen Gasparovich and her husband Don of Detroit; three sons, Gary and his wife, Carol, of Cadillac, Kevin and his wife, Sharon, of Utica, Dennis and his wife, Elaine, of Washington Township; nine grandchildren, Lindsy and T.J. Gasparovich, Bill Lerner, Jenny, Jason, Bryan, Brandon, Jonathan, and Kerri Donohue; one great-grandson, Daron Donohue; his in-laws, George Klenner, Bob and Phyllis Flynn, and Mike and Linda Sluiter; many loving nieces and nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Richardson and Noreen Klenner. A funeral mass will be conducted 11 am. on Monday, May 21, 2001, at St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville. The Rev. Fr. John Weis will officiate with interment at Resurrection Cemetery. A scripture service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home and after 10 a.m. on Monday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Capuchins in Detroit. Frances Jeroue Frances Elizabeth (Henne) Jeroue, retired Midland businesswomen, passed away following an extended illness on May 17, 2001, at MidMichigan Stratford Village. She was the daughter of the late Herman and Kathleen (Cullen) Henne and lived in Bay Port until her marriage to Edward Jeroue. They lived in Detroit and Marlette prior to coming to Midland in 1953, to continue operation of their Western Auto Store, and later a real estate office. Mr. Jeroue died in 1994. In retirement, Mrs. Jeroue often consulted with area professionals and derived much satisfaction from their successes. She divided her time between her home in Midland and the family summer home in Bay Port. As her illness progressed, she gave up both homes and lived with her daughter and son-in-law until moving to Stratford Village in Aug. 1999. She took great joy in her family. She is survived by her son, Herman E. Jeroue; one daughter, Sarah Jane Servinski and her husband, Leonard; six grandchildren, Timothy Jeroue and his wife, Mary Joe, Charles Servinski and his wife, Michelle, Michael Servinski and his wife, Margaret, all of Midland, Katherine Servinski of Midland, Andrew Servinski of Midland, and Mary Frances and her husband, Todd Graves, of Beaverton; six great-grandchildren, Sara, Jacob, Christopher, and Liz Jeroue, Dominik Servinski, and Melissa Graves; two sisters, Isabel Kuhl and her husband, Roland, of Royal Oak and Kathleen Hailey of Tulsa, Okla.; numerous nephews and nieces; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by one son, three brothers, and four sisters. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2001, at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Larkin Township. Fr. Robert Davey will be the celebrant. A family committal service will be at Fairhaven Cemetery in Bay Port. A Vigil service will be at 7:30 Sunday evening. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Smith-Miner Funeral Home and from 10 until the time of the Mass on Monday at the Church. Memorials may be designated for Assumption BVM Church for the music program or to MidMichigan Hospice. Ruby Miller Ruby E. Miller, 79, former resident of Rochester and for the past eleven years resident of Filion, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at her home, after an extended illness. She was born Nov. 19, 1921, at Marion, Ky., daughter of the late Robert Ford and Martie T. (Thurmond) Ford. Miss Ruby E. Ford and Mr. Harles Miller were united in marriage on Dec. 1, 1945. They had celebrated 55 years of marriage. Ruby attended Calvary Baptist Church at Caseville. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, sewing, and gardening. Surviving are her husband, Harles Miller; two sons, Larry Miller and his wife, Ebbe, of Kinde, and Ronald Miller of Flint; one grandson, Kyle Miller; one sister, Juanita Morgan of Newburgh, Ind.; and one brother-in-law, Herb Delacy of Port Huron; and several nieces and nephews. Ruby was predeceased by one sister, Naomi Delacy. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. The Rev. Michael Goforth, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church of Caseville will officiate. Cremation took place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. Memorials may be offered to Huron Memorial Hospice, 1100 S. Van Dyke Rd., Bad Axe, MI 48413. Magdalene Siemen Magdalene J. Siemen, 84, of Harbor Beach passed away peacefully Thursday, May 17, 2001, at her home. Born in Sand Beach township on Sept. 22, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anastasia (Lorkowski) Essenmacher. On June 1, 1935, Magdalene and Sylvester Siemen were united in marriage at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena. Together they farmed in Sand Beach township for many years until their retirement. Sylvester preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 1981. Magdalene was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach and the Legion of Mary. She also participated with the retiree clubs in the area and was a member of the Farm Bureau. She was a former parishioner of St. Anthony's Church in Helena and a past president of the Altar Society. Magdalene enjoyed her flowers and gardening, playing cards and sewing and making quilts for her grandchildren. Surviving are her children, Marilyn Klama and her husband, Pete, of Columbus, Ron Siemen and his wife, Clarice, of Harbor Beach, Marie Gentner and her fiance, Ken Helmerich, of Minden City, William Siemen and his wife, Betty, of Clinton Township, Pam Sochacki and her husband, Rick, of Gladwin, Sherry Learman and her husband, Dick, of Bad Axe, and Julie Booms and her husband, Gary, of Harbor Beach; 26 grand children; 46 great-grand children; and one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Edward Essenmacher of Harbor Beach and Jim Essenmacher and his wife, Cathy, of Harbor Beach; a sister, Viola Tenbusch and her husband, Ken, of Flushing. She was preceded in death by five grandchildren, Steven Klama, Corrina Siemen, Jennifer and Mary Learman and Karla Booms; a son-in-law, James Gentner. A funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2001, in Our Lady of Lake Huron Church in Harbor Beach with Fr. Gerald Kukla, pastor officiating. Burial will be in the St. Anthony's Cemetery. A parish vigil service will be conducted at 8 p.m. on Friday in the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. David Lowe David M. Lowe, 68, Bad Axe High School Class of 1951, died on May 16, 2001, in Thunderbird Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz. There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. on May 21, 2001, at Palo Christi Presbyterian Church in Paradise Valley, Ariz. with the Rev. Peggy Roberts officiating.
