Strawska, 85, of Forestville passed away Thursday, July 12, 2001 in Harbor Beach Community Hospital following a brief illness. She was born March 26, 1916, in Harbor Beach, the daughter of the late Peter and Anna (Shubert) Pawlowski. She and Wilfred Strawska were united in marriage on May 6, 1933 in Harbor Beach. Wilfred preceded her in death on April 30, 1997. Mary was an active member of St. John Catholic Church in Forestville and enjoyed her family and especially her grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter, Donna Artman and her husband, Richard, of Madison Heights; a son, Dallas Strawska and his wife, Alice, of Madison Heights; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bertha Karges of Florida and Lucille Strawska and her husband, Neil, of Port Huron. Mary was preceded in death by three sisters, Anna, Martha and Catherine; seven brothers, John, Albert, Xavier, Joseph, Roman, Theodore and Peter. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2001, at St. John Catholic Church in Forestville, with the Rev. Donald Eppenbrock officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A vigil service will be at 4 p.m. today by the Rev. Donald Dombrowski at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the church. Zigmund Rybicki Zigmund W. Rybicki, 86, of Sherman Township near Forestville passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 14, 2001 in Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at St. John Catholic Church in Forestville, with burial in the church cemetery. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Monday in the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the church. Monday, July 16, 2001 Marianne McGee Marianne I. McGee, 69, of Sebewaing formerly of Prescott, died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at Bay Shore Nursing Care Center in Bay City following a two-month illness. She was born on Jan. 18, 1932, in Detroit, daughter of the late Reino R. and Irene (Simonson) Hiltunen. She was united in marriage to Richard William McGee on July 25, 1953, in Detroit. He preceded her in death in 1985. Marianne had lived in Prescott until moving to Sebewaing one year ago. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sebewaing, the Sebewaing V.F.W. Auxiliary Post No. 4115 and the Sebewaing American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 293. Surviving are two sons, the Rev. Ray McGee and his wife, Sharon, of Sebewaing, Thomas McGee and his wife, Sherry, of Prescott; two grandchildren, Kori and Jason McGee; one step- granddaughter, Brittany; one great-granddaughter, Michalla McGee; two sisters, Patricia Scharnagel, of Prescott, and Sarah Baldridge, of Northville; several nieces and nephews; stepson, Richard McGee, of Trenton; stepdaughter, Diane McGee, of Mount Clemens. Cremation took place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Sebewaing. The Rev. Wilfong of Monroeville, Pa. passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2001. He was the son of Elmer and Beaprice Wilfong of Bay Port. Arnold was a seaman first class in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He was buried on Friday, July 13, 2001. Arrangements were handled by Bash Mied Funeral Home in Delmont, Pa. Wednesday, July 18, 2001 Catherina Lloyd Catherina Saloma Beaver Lloyd, 107, the oldest resident in Huron County died Tuesday morning, July 17, 2001, at Sunny Acres Nursing Center of Bad Axe. She was born May 12, 1894, daughter of the late Frederick and Elizabeth (Hertzel) Beaver in Elkton. She was a graduate of Bad Axe High School. At the age of 78, Catherina Beaver married Ernel Lloyd on April 16, 1973. Mrs. Lloyd worked for 25 years on the family farm. She also worked for the Bad Axe Grain Company initially as a bean picker and later as the head bookkeeper. She often traveled by train from different grain facilities to do her accounting work. She devoted much of her life to caring for others, teaching Sunday School and membership in the Order of the Eastern Star. She also was a member of the Colfax United Methodist church. Surviving are two foster sons, Robert Spicer and his wife, Joann, of Bad Axe and Elmer Spicer and his wife, Wanda, of Pontiac; two step daughters, Doris Frodie and her husband, Fred, of Kego Harbor and Reva Bradsher and her husband, Chuck, of Florida; one step son-in-law, Orval Chambers of Bad Axe; several nieces and nephews. Catherina was preceded in death by her husband, Ernel; two sisters, Ilena and Cassie Beaver; and four brothers, Fred, Milford, George, and Louie Beaver. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2001, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home of Bad Axe. Cremation took place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. Thursday, July 19, 2001 Joseph Garascia Joseph Robert Garascia, 37, of Caseville died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, after suffering a probable heart attack. He was born May 17, 1964, at Wm. Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, youngest son of the late Paul and Cora (Mattice) Garascia. Joey moved to the Caseville area in 1976 from Canton. He was employed at Woolford Construction in Caseville and enjoyed life by spending time with his family and friends. Surviving are his daughter, Mandy Garascia of Port Austin; his brother, Michael Garascia and his wife, Elizabeth, of Lake Orion; his sister, Lisa Middaugh and her husband, Mark, of Oscoda; and three nieces, Brittany, Sarah, and Tricia. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2001 at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the time of services on Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel. Angus McEachin Angus D. McEachin, 81, of Venice, Fla. and formerly of Sheridan Corners, died Tuesday morning, July 17, 2001, in Ann Arbor at his son's residence under hospice care after an extended illness. He was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Bad Axe, son of the late John J. and Isabelle C. (McMillan) McEachin. He married Madeline G. Comment on June 26, 1948, at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Gagetown. She preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 2000. He was a graduate of Bad Axe High School, worked for the Grand Truck Railroad before entering the United States Navy. He served from 1940 until 1946 in the Mediterranean on the USS Erickson as a radio operator. Angus returned to the Grand Trunk Railroad and retired in 1980 as a division agent. He was a usher for many years at St. Monica Church in Kalamazoo. Mr. McEachin was a member of St. Raphael Parish in Englewood, Fla. He enjoyed traveling in his recreational vehicle with his wife and family. Mr. Angus McEachin is survived by four daughters, Mary L. McEachin and her husband, John Harold, of Venice, Fla., Grace C. Pfeiffer and her husband, William, of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Fran J. Becker and her husband, William, of Huntington Woods, and JoAnn M. McEachin and her husband, Horst Steinfels, of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; six sons, Dan J. and his wife, Mary Lampard, of Troy, Neil V. of Eugene, Ore., Richard C. of Ann Arbor, Jerry W. of Ann Arbor, David J. and his wife, Judi, of Richmond, Va., and Paul A. and his wife, Karla, of Richmond, Va.; 15 grandchildren; one brother, the Rev. Cornelius Fr. "Mac" McEachin, of Venice, Fla.; and one sister, Flora Parker and her husband, Robert, of Ann Arbor; three sister-in-laws, Mrs. Delphine McEachin of Sheridan, Mrs. Ann McEachin of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Mrs. Dorothy McEachin of Sterling Heights. Cynthia Schwartz Cynthia A. Schwartz, 64, of Gagetown, died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 17, 2001, in Johnson County Medical Center, Buffalo, Wyo. She was born Dec. 2, 1936, in Grosse Pointe Farms to Arthur and Ernestine (Klee) Thiel. She married George D. Schwartz on June 2, 1956, in St. Gertrude Catholic Church, St. Clair Shores. Cynthia graduated from St. Gertrude Catholic School in St. Clair Shores in 1955. After her marriage to George they lived in Frankfurt, Germany while he was stationed there with the U.S. Army. They returned to the United States in 1958 ending up in Michigan. Cynthia worked at K-Mart in Waterford and Bad Axe. She and George retired in Gagetown in 1993. She was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church in Gagetown and attended St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Cass City. Cynthia was a member of the Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 8892 and helped with charities including, Easter Seals and John Lafferty Foundation. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and knitting. Cynthia was survived by her husband, George; children, Ronald Schwartz, of Pontiac, Mark Schwartz and his wife, Shelly, of Clio, Robin Schwartz and his wife, Anita, of Boise, Ind., Cynthia M. Schwartz, of Gagetown, and Susan Lawford and her husband, Jack, of Boise, Ind.; grandchildren, Victoria Schwartz, Rebecca Schwartz, Travis Adsitt and Katie Sue Lawford; brother, Edward Thiel and his wife, Virginia, of St. Clair Shores; sister, Edwina Gabuer and her husband, Edward, of Escanaba, Ruth Peters and her husband, Warren, of St. Clair Shores, and John Thiel of St. Clair Shores. Luella Shaw Luella Shaw, 87, of Bad Axe died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Huron Memorial Hospital in Bad Axe. She was born June 22, 1914, in Linkville. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Anna (Binder) Errer. Luella Errer and Alex "Red" Shaw were united in marriage on January 1, 1935. "Red" preceded his wife in death on May 4, 1993. Luella was a homemaker and farmer. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, knitting, and crocheting. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bad Axe. Surviving are two sons, Donald Shaw and his wife, Judy, of Bad Axe, James Shaw and his wife, Ethel, of Bad Axe; six grandchildren, Wayne Shaw and his wife, Martha, of Imlay City, Michael Shaw and his wife, Michelle, of Bad Axe, Scott Shaw and his wife, Pamela, of Troy, Holly Blanchard and her husband, Glen, of Utica, Steve Shaw and his wife, Donna, of Oxford, Kristin Wright and her husband, Scott, of Ubly; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Loeda Murphy of Bad Axe; and several nieces and nephews. Vernon Swartzentruber Vernon Swartzentruber, 85, of Pigeon passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon, following a brief illness. He was born Dec. 2, 1915, in East Zorra Township, Oxford County, Ontario, son of the late Joel and Sarah (Bender) Swartzentruber. On Oct. 8, 1939, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth V. Christner at the Pigeon River Mennonite Church in Pigeon. Mr. Swartzentruber was an active member of Pigeon River Mennonite Church from 1948. He also attended the Fairhaven Mennonite Church and was involved in leadership with the Vassar Mennonite Church. Mr. Swartzentruber retired in 1978 from a lifetime of farming as well as Sebewaing Industries where he worked as a die setter and forklift operator for more than 23 years. He is survived by his wife of more than 61 years, Elizabeth; two sons, Leon Swartzentruber and his wife, Susan, Harold Swartzentruber and his wife, Connie, all of Ubly; three daughters, Joyce Marmion and her husband, Frederick, of New Boston, Elva Mast of Kalispell, Mont. and Melva Barstow and her husband, Thomas, of Grosse IIe; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Willis Swartzentruber and his wife, Hilda, of Tavistock, Ontario; two sisters, Nelda Lichti of Tavistock, Ontario and Katie Wagler and her husband, Wilmer, of New Hamburg, Ontario; a sister-in-law, Verda Swartzentruber; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a great- granddaughter; a brother, Elroy; a sister, Selma; and a brother-in-law, Laverne Lichti. Woldt, 85, of Sebewaing died Wednesday morning, July 18, 2001, at The Lutheran Home in Frankenmuth following a lengthy illness. She was born Jan. 29, 1916, in Sebewaing, daughter of the late Frederick and Louise (Radloff) Kundinger. She was united in marriage to Otto A. Woldt on April 21, 1940, in St. John Lutheran parsonage in Kilmanagh. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1996. Edna was a life member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kilmanagh. She enjoyed embroidering and quilting. Surviving are one daughter, Lorraine J. and her husband, Thomas Priebe, of Reese; two granddaughters, Melissa Ann Priebe, of Reese, and Shannon Elaine Rodriguez and her husband Nolan, of Swartz Creek; also two sisters, Ruth Eden and her husband Albert, and Vera Menzel all of Bay Port; one brother, Gerhard Kundinger, of Sebewaing; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Elaine Diehl; and one brother, Edgar Kundinger. Crane, 85, of Waterford and formerly of Cass City, died suddenly Tuesday, July 17, 2001, in POII Medical Center in Pontiac. Duda, 92, of Traverse City and formerly of Harbor Beach, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2001, at the home of her daughters in Traverse City after a long illness. Born in on March 25, 1909, in Nanticoke, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Francis (Buchinski) Kogoski. She and Joseph Duda were united in marriage in 1939. He preceded her in death in 1982. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach and enjoyed being with her grandchildren. Mary is survived by two daughters, Dolores Ferreira and her husband, Anthony, of Sun City, Ariz., and Andrea Hengesbach and her husband, Gerald, of Traverse City; seven grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Duda in 1982; two brothers, Benjamin and Andrew Kogoski; and a sister Eleanor Andrukite. Sean Goretski Sean Patrick Goretski, 42, of Howell died July 18, 2001, in Ann Arbor. He was born on Nov. 3, 1958, to Michael and Julia (Gannon) Goretski in Bad Axe. He married Grace (Micallef) Goretski on Aug. 19, 2000, in Howell. Surviving are his wife, Grace; stepson, Sean Rheinschmidt, of Howell; parents, Michael and Julia Goretski, of Port Austin; brothers, Michael and his wife, Kathy, Kevin and his special friend, Bonnie; sisters, Cathleen Diaz and her husband, Tim, Bridget Harris and her husband, Robert, and Mary Williams and her husband, John; numerous nieces and nephews. Elda Koehn Elda E. Koehn, 84, of Harbor Beach passed away Thursday, July 19, 2001, in the Huron Medical Care Facility near Bad Axe following a long illness. She was born Jan. 7, 1917, in Port Hope, daughter of the late Herman and Ella (Eggert) Koglin. Elda was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Harbor Beach. She enjoyed being with family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren. Elda enjoyed her garden and flowers. Surviving are six daughters, Argenia Perrine and her husband, Mike, of Fairmont, Minn., Beverly Hartz and her husband, Melvin, of Port Hope, Yvonne Reinke and her husband, Emil, of Marne, Betty Loewe and her husband, Tim, of Saginaw, Diana Soper and her husband, Laurie, of Rochester Hills, Jamie Healy and her husband, John, of Harbor Beach; five sons, Arnold Koehn and his wife, Shirley, of Harbor Beach, Carl Koehn and his wife, Lorraine, of Clare, Loren Koehn and his wife, Debbie, of Palms, Wendall Koehn of Harbor Beach, and Jeffery Koehn of Harbor Beach; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Alvin Koglin and his wife, Leah, of Port Hope; a sister, Ida Schave of Port Hope. James McDonald James Milo McDonald, 75, of Alma passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at his home. Jim was born on Nov. 10, 1925, in Bad Axe, the son of William and Florence (Dunlap) McDonald. On August 25, 1944, Jim married Dorothy L. Bouverette in Filion. She passed away on March 29, 1979. He married Elisabeth Faust on Oct. 10, 1986. In 1956, he moved from Bad Axe to Alma and went to work at the Smith Store until the store closed in Dec. of 1957. Jim then went to work for LD Decker as a realtor and real estate appraiser in 1958. He worked there until 1964 when he opened McDonald Real Estate Service in Alma. He sold the business in 1990 when he retired from real estate. Jim continued to work with McDonald Appraisal Business until September 2000. Jim was also a professional musician from 1950-55 and was an accomplished fiddle player. He served as Gratiot County Commissioner from 1970-76 and served as chairman during the county's centennial year. Jim was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Alma Masonic Lodge No. 244 F. and A.M. He enjoyed music and humor and had a love of the land and wildlife. He is survived by his wife, Elisabeth; two daughters, Carol MacLaren and her husband, Larry, of Elwell, and Pat McDonald of Alma; one son, Bill McDonald and his wife, Becky, of Alma; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Gorang and Norma Detgen and her husband, Ernie, both of Bad Axe. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy McDonald; a daughter, Sharon Marie Moore on Nov. 26, 1979; and a grandson, Steven Moore on April 26, 1995. Miller, 88, of Caseville died Thursday morning, July 19, 2001, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born June 20, 1913, at the home of her parents, the late John and Clara (Bolda) Andreski in Hume Township. On Nov. 19, 1932, she was united in marriage to Frank I. Miller at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. The couple lived in Detroit until moving to Kinde in 1946, where they farmed. In 1951, they moved to Caseville where her husband was employed at Caseville Lumber. Frank died on Oct. 2, 2000 at the age of 91. She was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville and former member of the Caseville Eagle Auxiliary. Surviving are three daughters, Edna Klueger and her husband, Joseph, of Caseville, Ruth Weber and her husband, Paul, and Mary Jane Bue and her husband, Jerry, both of Mt. Clemens; six grandchildren, Donna, Janet, Kevin, Tammy, LeeAnn, and Kelly; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were two brothers, Norbert and Floyd Andreski; and her sister, Martha Jimkoski. A funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 23, 2001, at St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville. The Rev. Fr. Kenneth Yaroch, pastor will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. A rosary service will take place on Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. 1
