Hind, 73, of Bad Axe, passed away Friday Sept. 21, 2001 at the Frankenmuth Care Center following a short illness. She was born on Jan. 31, 1928 in Hume Township, daughter of the late Alfred and Minna ( Iseler) Witherspoon. She married Verne "Jim" Hind on Dec. 1, 1951 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Kinde. He preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 2001. Mrs. Hind was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Kinde and the Lutheran Ladies Aid. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, visiting with family and friends and outdoors enjoying nature. She is survived by a son, Mac Hind of Bad Axe; a daughter, Joy Hind of Chesapeake, Va.; two brothers Allen Witherspoon and his wife, Florence, of Cass City, Willis Witherspoon and his wife, Rosie, of Kinde; one sister, Alice Fisher and her husband, Ben, of Caseville; one granddaughter, Amanda Hind of Bad Axe. She was preceded in death by one brother, John Witherspoon. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2001 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Kinde. Officiating will be Vicar Robert M. Niehaus. Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Byron Richardson Byron Richardson, 70, of Oscoda, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001 in Iosco Medical Care Facility, Tawas. He was born Aug. 3, 1921 in Vassar to Harry and Ella (Soper) Richardson. He married Delores Gray, Jan. 31, 1986 in Sandusky. Byron is survived by his wife, Delores; many friends including Kathy Cosway of Oscoda, Junior Giddings and the Giddings family. He was preceded in death by his brother and his parents. Funeral services took place Saturday Sept. 22, 2001 at Kranz Funeral Home of Cass City. Dr. Phil Rice of Cass City United Methodist Church officiated the service. Memorials may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund. Monday, September 24, 2001 John Dronsella John G. Dronsella, 98, of Sebewaing died Sunday morning, Sept. 23, 2001, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. He was born on Oct. 7, 1902, in Winsor Township, son of the late John G. and Wilhelmina (Layher) Dronsella Sr. He was united in marriage to Martha Roemer on Feb. 10, 1937, in Kilmanagh. John was a farmer in the Sebewaing area for many years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served as an elder. Surviving are his wife, Martha, of Sebewaing; one daughter, Florence Kuhl and her husband, Norman, of Sebewaing; two special granddaughters, Christine Kuhl and Teresa Mavis and her husband, Daniel, all of Saginaw; two sisters, Ida Stobar of Algonac and Hannah Keller of Armada; one brother, Walter Dronsella and his wife, Ruth, of Sebewaing; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one infant brother, Otto Dronsella; four sisters, Emma Fuchs, Ella Kraszner, Edna Gremel and Anna Menzel. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Charles Kuhl will officiate with burial in the Silverlawn Cemetery in Sebewaing. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service at the church. Steve Gintner Steve Gintner, 88, of Elkton died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 22, 2001, at his home while under hospice care. He was born on March 27, 1913, the son late John and Kathryn (Himmelsbach) Gintner. He was born in his parent's home in the Caseville post office. On May 4, 1935, he was united in marriage to Matilda Schneider at St. John's Lutheran Church in Berne. Steve worked at Hudson Motor Co. in Detroit for a short time then moved to the Grindstone area where he farmed. In the mid 1950s they moved to Elkton to operate a farm for Hugh Monroe and in 1969, he began employment at Active Industries, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Elkton and enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards, woodworking and playing with the grandchildren. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Tilly; three children, Jean Bailey and her husband, Robert, of Bad Axe, Gary Gintner of Fresno, Calif., and Sharon Ouellette of Mt. Morris; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert; six brothers, his twin John, Joseph, Adam, Jacob, George, and Albert; and two sisters, Theresa Himmel and Caroline Heron. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkton. The Rev. Elton Bickel, pastor will officiate with graveside services at 2:30 p.m. in New River Cemetery near Huron City. Barbara Morley Barbara June Morley, 78, of Harbor Beach passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at her home with hospice care and her family at her side. Born in Bad Axe on March 19, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Mack and Barbara (Englehart) Brown. June and Lyle Morley were united in marriage on June 28, 1941, in Port Huron. She was a life member of the Harbor Beach VFW Auxiliary. June loved her family, baking and cooking, crocheting, flowers, rides in the country and watching the Red Wings. She is survived by her husband, Lyle Morley of Harbor Beach; her children, Linda Leese and her husband, Dale, of Flushing, Carol Zaebst and her husband, Wayne, of Metamora, David Morley and his wife, Deb, of Harbor Beach, Roy Morley of Harbor Beach, and Mary Alice Kosal and her husband, Bruce, of Harbor Beach; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Nap Brown and his wife, Eleanor, of Harbor Beach, and Charles Brown and his wife, Delores, of New Boston; two sisters, Eva Morley of Bad Axe, Gloria Shine of New Boston; many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors; sisters-in-law, Ruby Roggenbuck of Harbor Beach, Jane Morley of Ill., Arlene Brown of Port Hope and Lutisha Robertson of Harbor Beach. Majeski, 95, life long Dwight Township resident, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at Courtney Manor Nursing Center in Bad Axe. She was born July 21, 1906, in Dwight Township, daughter of the late John and Ada (Wisneski) Rice. Agnes and Felix Majeski were married Oct. 26, 1926. Felix preceded Agnes in death in 1974. Agnes was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dwight Township. She was a member of the St. Mary's Ladies Sodality. She devoted her life to her family. Agnes also enjoyed cards and sewing. Agnes is survived by two daughters, Dolores Lerash of Charlevoix, Genevieve Galka of Warren; four sons, Eugene Majeski and his wife, Genevieve, of North Fort Meyers, Fla., Alfred Majeski and his wife, Margie, of St. Clair, Emil Majeski and his wife, Nancy, of Livonia, and Kenneth Majeski and his wife, Patricia, of Kinde; 35 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; three daughters-in-law, Geraldine Majeski of Filion, Arvella Majeski of Kinde and Cathy Majeski of Kinde; two sisters-in-law, Teresa Rice of Port Austin and Mary Rice of Kinde; one brother-in-law, Roman Stockoski of Port Austin; and many nieces and nephews. Tuesday, September 25, 2001 Eva Cummings Eva M. Cummings, 82, of Harbor Beach passed away on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at Port Huron Hospital following a long illness. Born in Grindstone City on July 18, 1919, she was the daughter of the late George and Meda (Newsome) Hewitt. On Aug. 22, 1936, she and Charles Cummings were united in marriage at Grindstone City. He preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1990. Eva enjoyed her gardening and especially growing gladiolus. She is survived by her daughters, Thelma Duda, Ruth Liebeskind and her husband, Gerhard, Charlene Michalski and her husband, Jerry, Shirley Pawlitz and her husband, Merrell, all of Harbor Beach and Nancy Heilman and her husband, Ron, of Elger; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia Marquardt of Kingston. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Al, Sam, Dureell and Russell Hewitt; and by two sisters, Lillian Green and Goldie Lambert. Beatrice Erb Beatrice Erb, 102, life long resident of Huron County died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at Seasons Change Nursing Home in Bay Port. She was born on Feb. 15, 1899, in Cass City to the late Henry and Caroline (Lash) Helwig. Beatrice and Russell were united in marriage at the First United Methodist Church of Cass City on Dec. 25, 1919. He preceded her in death in 1987. Beatrice devoted her life to education. She taught in the rural school system for more than 40 years. She was a member of the Bad Axe First United Methodist Church. She graduated from County Normal College. She is survived by one daughter, Audrey Brandenburg of Sebewaing; three grandchildren, Jerry Brandenburg of Muskegon, Jim Brandenburg of Sebewaing, Pam Pryor and her husband, Jim, of Caro; nine great-grandchildren, Jeff and Jason Brandenburg of Clarkston, Nathan, Jamie and Brian Brandenburg of Sebewaing, Nicki and Ryan Badour of Fairgrove, and Taylor and Tanner Pryor of Caro. "Jack" Goddard, 74, of Marysville died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, in Mercy Hospital in Port Huron. He was born Sept. 5, 1927, in Detroit to the late William and Geraldine (Swanson) Goddard. He married Violet L. "Poppy" Baird on Aug. 21, 1948, in Marysville. Mr. Goddard was employed with Peerless Cement Co. for 23 years and Consumers Power for 14 years. He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church in Marysville, American Legion Post No. 449, Knights of Columbus Council No. 9526, Moose Lodge No. 158, Caseville Eagles, and was a Past Exalted Ruler of B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 343. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards and spending time at the cottage in Caseville. He is survived by his wife, Poppy; a son, Donald Goddard and his wife, Jeanette, of Marysville; a daughter, Linda Tokarski and her husband, David, of Port Huron; five grandchildren, Chris and Lisa Curtis, D.J., Scott and Matthew Goddard; a great-grandson, Tyler; and a brother, Earl W. Eunice Hasting Mrs. Eunice J. Hasting, 78, of Ubly and formerly of Frankfort, Ind., passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at Tendercare of Cass City due to a stroke. She was born on March 9, 1923, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Arley and Mary (Yoakam) Heffner. She married Robert L. Hasting on June 20, 1951, in Angola, Ind. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1999. Eunice graduated from Shawnee School in Indiana. She worked at Westinghouse in Ohio and Unelectric in Indiana. She was a former member of the Phillippe Senior Center and the Methodist Church in Frankfort, Ind. She loved baseball, especially the Reds and the Tigers. She loved traveling, gardening, cats, visiting shut-ins, spoiling her grandchildren and going shopping with granddaughters Cassie and Kayla. Eunice is survived by two daughters, Robbie T. "Teia" Coxs of Frankfort, Ind., Bethany A. "Beth" Hasting of Ubly; two son-in-laws, Paul "Bo" Coxs of Frankfort, Ind., Thomas H. "Tom" Stephan Jr. of Ubly; five grandchildren, Justin S. She was born on April 25, 1958, in Beaumont, Texas to Fredrick and Shirley (Cannon) Hillehrandt. On Sept. 22, 1984, she was united in marriage to Carl Heck in Houston, Texas. Rose, her husband, and their son moved to Pigeon in August 1996 from Houston. Rose worked in the past at My Secret Garden and at the Pigeon IGA. Most recently, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Pigeon and enjoyed stamp collecting and collecting miniature cottages. Koehn, 82, of Harbor Beach was sent to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at the long term care unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital following a long illness. He was born on Aug. 2, 1919, in Sand Beach Township to the late Henry and Wilhelmina (Murawski) Koehn. On June 29, 1940, he married Geraldine Mary Brown in Harbor Beach. Elmer was an employee of Hercules, Inc., retiring in 1981 after working for 40 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Harbor Beach where he was an usher for many years. He was a avid bowler and was a former member of the Monday Night Men's League for many years. He enjoyed his family and friends, gardening, being out doors and playing cards and bingo. Elmer is survived by his wife of 61 years, Geraldine Koehn of Harbor Beach; and two sons, Wilfred Koehn and his wife, Gloria, of Ft. She married Gerald I. Smith in 1984. Mrs. Smith enjoyed having yard sales and listening to and calling in to Ladies Line on WLEW radio. Survived by her husband, Gerald Smith of Bad Axe; and two nieces and one nephew. She was predeceased in death by one brother, Michael Leppek. There will be no services for Mrs. Smith. Bryce, 54, of Port Hope passed away on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at her home following a brief illness. Born in Birmingham, Ala., she was the daughter of the Rev. Carl and Virginia (Butler) Renter. She attended Great Lakes Junior College in Bad Axe and was a member of the Port Hope AmVets Auxiliary. Christine is survived by a daughter, Karen Gust and her husband, Chris, of Port Hope; a son, Dewayne Gilbert and his wife, Patricia, of Brownstown, Ind.; five grandchildren; her parents, the Rev. Carl and Virginia Renter of Port Hope; and a brother, Frederick Renter of Eugene, Ore. Cremation took place at Sunset Valley Crematory of Bay City and a memorial service will be conducted in the United Methodist Church of Port Hope on Friday, Sept. 28, 2001. Rev. Richard Smith Richard C. Smith, 71, of Caseville died Monday evening, Sept. 24, 2001, at his home while under hospice care. He was born on May 5, 1930, in Hadley. On Oct. 10, 1959, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Lincoln in Oxford. In 1996, while living in Hadley, he became an officer with the Department of Natural Resources, Fish and Waterways Division. In 1979, he moved to Caseville and became the supervisor at the state docks. He retained that position until retiring in 1993. Dick was a fun, outgoing man who enjoyed a joke or two and loved to share stories at Walt's. He was well versed in running heavy equipment, and after retiring, he helped some of the local contractors when they were short handed. He was a member of the Elkton Missionary Church and loved to go hunting for game and deer with his sons. Surviving are seven children, David Smith and his wife, Mary, of Clio, Paul Smith of Caro, Mark Smith and his wife, Beth, of Reese, Rosemary Anderson and her husband, Mark, of Saginaw, Saundra Buchinger and her husband, Mike, of Saginaw, Tim Smith and his wife, Donna, of Bad Axe and Julie McIntosh and her husband, Bob, of Union City, Okla.; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kenny Lewis and his wife, Della, of Dryden, Larry Lewis and his wife, Nancy, of Houston, Texas and Gary Lewis and his wife, Rita, of Dunn, N.C. Friday, September 28, 2001 Jane Bieri Jane M. Bieri, 71, of Elkton, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at her home while under hospice care. She was born in Jackson on Jan. 5, 1930, daughter of the late Warren and Gretchen (Losey) Treadwell. She was a homemaker throughout her lifetime, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, embroidery, and walking the dog. Her survivors include four daughters, Sandra Bieri of Elkton, Priscilla Hebert and her husband, Dale, of Caseville, Sue Polega and her husband, Terry, of Owendale, and Gretchen Riley and her husband, Timothy, of Saginaw; a son, Michael Lawrence Bieri of Muskegon; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Gloria Jean VanSickle and her husband, Douglas, of Marshall; a brother, Richard Treadwell and his wife, Patricia, of Battle Creek; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Bieri, in 1972; and a grandson, Jason Hebert, in 1992. The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home in Pigeon with the Rev. DeWeerd Smith, pastor of the Community Wesleyan Church in Elkton officiating. Cremation will follow with interment at Caseville Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until the time of service at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, A Golden Rule Funeral Home in Pigeon. Memorials for Mrs. Bieri may be made in care of the family. Malcolm Bombrys Malcolm Wesley Bombrys, 68, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at Huron Memorial Hospital. He was born on Sept. 11, 1933, to the late Wesley and Fern (Meyers) Bombrys in Toledo, Ohio. Malcolm worked building pole barns and as a car salesman. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards. He received a bachelor of arts degree in business management from Angola Indiana State. He served in the U.S. Navy and in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Teletype operator during the Korean conflict from July 1951 until August 1954 where he received a National Defense Service Ribbon. He is survived by four sons, Thaddus Bombrys of Chelsea, Christopher Bombrys of Lancaster, Calif., Phillip Bombrys of Eaton Rapids, Gavin Bombrys of Bad Axe; two daughters, Joan Kay Mason of San Antonio, Texas, and Tonia Teffeteller and her husband, James, of Elkton; one brother, Edward Bombrys and his wife, Ann, of Toledo, Ohio; one sister, Debra Meyers of Dayton, Ohio; five grandchildren, Taylor, Adrienne, and Michael Teffeteller, and Katrina and Brittani Bombreys. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Fr. John Killop will officiate. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Alma Kosal Mrs. Alma A. Kosal, 92, of Minden City passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 26, 2001, in Sunny Acres Nursing Home. She was born on March 12, 1909, in Minden City to the late John P. and Alma (Broadbeck) McCoy. She married Joseph M. Kosal on June 8, 1940, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1992. Alma was a graduate of Harbor Beach High School. She also graduated form Michigan Normal College in Ypsilanti in 1928 with a lifelong teaching certificate. She retired from teaching in 1975 after 43 years. She taught in the Thumb area with her last six years at Ubly Community Schools. She was a lifelong member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Ruth as well as a past member of Ss. Peter and Paul Christian Mothers. She was active in the Minden City Boy Scouts as well as the Minden City Senior Citizen Group. She also enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. Alma is survived by one son, Michael J. Kosal and his wife, Barbara, of Cass City; two grandchildren, Laura J. Miller and her husband, Stanley, of Minden City, Jeffery D. Kosal of Fenton; five brothers, Dr. William McCoy and his wife, Olive, of Bad Axe, Joseph McCoy and his wife, Gloria, of Minden City, Frank McCoy and his wife, Loraine, of Marlette, Patrick McCoy and his wife, Sara Mae, of Port Huron, Richard McCoy and his wife, Bertha, of Redford; two sisters, Helen Bennett of Applegate, Mary Swigert and her husband, Ed, of Centerline. Alma was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Robert, James and Thomas McCoy; and one sister, Olive Higgins. Funeral mass for Alma Kosal will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Ss. Gary Prill After fighting a four and a half year battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease, Gary "Guppy" Douglas Prill, 48, life-long resident of Huron County, was called home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001. Although he is gone, he will be remembered most for the courage and strength he possessed, knowing the battle he was fighting would eventually overcome him. He was considered an inspiration by many. He was born on Dec. 21, 1952, to John and Marilyn (Will) Prill, graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1971 and was united in marriage on April 12, 1975 to Sandra Miller at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved bowling, Scrabble, and playing horseshoes. Gary most of all loved the company of friends and family. He is survived by Sandy, his wife of 26 years; three daughters, Becky Mattice and her husband, Kevin, of Bad Axe, Jessica Prill and her special friend, Tim Brade, of Bad Axe, Rachael Prill and her special friend, Lane Kautz, of Lake Orion; three grandchildren, Caitlyn and Samantha Mattice, and Bailey Hacker all of Bad Axe; his parents, John and Marilyn Prill of Bad Axe; three brothers, John Prill and his wife, Patricia, Daniel Prill and his wife, Rhonda, and Christopher Prill, all of Bad Axe; five sisters, Julie Varoski and her husband, Bill, of Sandusky, Linda Cook and her husband, Wayne, of Filion, Cheryl Wrubel and her husband, Steve, of Harbor Beach, Cindy Mullin and her husband, Terry, of Caro, and Melanie Pollum and her husband, Marvin, of Bad Axe; 36 nieces and nephews, Misty, Sarah, Jenny, John, Melissa, Vanessa, and Trista Prill, Travis Lemanski and his wife, Julie, Tina Vuillemot and her husband, Brian, Tracy Maurer and her husband, Keith, Jason and Alicia Cook, Amanda, Steve, Nick, and Eric Wrubel, Marvin and Breanna Pollum, Troy, Treavor, and Trent Mullin, David, Michelle, Jackie, Robin, and Nathan Crandall, Sarah, Kirstyn, Julia, and Jordan Miller, Rhonda and Hanna VanErp, and A.J. and Alicia Damrow. Jack Shaltonis Jack Shaltonis, 79, Bad Axe, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2001, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe after a long illness. Services will be Sunday at the H.W.
