HURON DAILY TRIBUNE, Bad Axe, Huron County, Michigan Local Obituaries for the week of February 25, 2001 Sunday, February 25, 2001 Elzear Bouchard Mr. Elzear "Al" Bouchard, 93, of Bad Axe, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. He was born on May 31, 1907, in Black River to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (LaLonde) Bouchard. He married Selma Swiercz on Feb. 3, 1940, at St. Agnes Parish in Detroit. She preceded him in death on March 10, 1997. He moved to Detroit as a young man to seek work and stayed there until 1945 when he moved to Sheridan Township to farm. He farmed until 1956 and then he and his wife bought Al's Market. He retired in 1975 when they sold the butcher shop. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish in Bad Axe and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1546 of Bad Axe. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and visiting with family and friends. He is survived by one stepson, Russell Bouchard and his wife, Delores, of Bad Axe; two sisters, Beatrice Rabey of Harrisville and Frances Kent and her husband, George, of Ossineke; one brother, Philip Bouchard of Harrisville; six step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Betty Bouchard of Harbor Beach; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ed, Arthur, Leo and Laurence Bouchard; five sisters, Eva Reid, Agnes Jones, Alvina Hetcher, Laura LaBelle, Lydia Gauthier; one son, Gerald Bouchard. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Sacred Heart Parish in Bad Axe. The Rev. John Killop, pastor will officiate. There will be a parish wake service at 7 p.m. on Sunday and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 8 p.m., both at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery in Ubly in the spring. Visitation is from 1:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Sunday and from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Loretta Lamoureux Loretta Lamoureux, 97, of Cass City died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Hills & Dales General Hospital. She was born on March 15, 1903, in North Winchester, Ontario, Canada to Isadore and Rosena (Chatrand) Lavictoire. She married Harvey Henry Lamoureux on Aug. 27, 1923, in Cornwall, Ontario. Loretta became a United States citizen Aug. 9, 1943. She and Harvey settled on a farm outside of Kingston and lived there for many years. They delivered eggs to Detroit twice a week for many years. They moved to Cass City in 1980. Loretta was a member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church where she loved practicing her faith. She also enjoyed many different kinds of needlework and flowers. Mrs. Lamoureux is survived by her children, Doris Naeyaert of Centerline, Raymond Lamoureux and his wife, Sandy Butrymowicz, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Jerry Lamoureux and his wife, Rachel, of Decker; grandchildren, Rena Wujek and her husband, Gordon, Roger Naeyaert, Robert Naeyaert and his wife, Mary, Roxanne Ellwanger and her husband, David, Raymond Lamoureux, Coe Lamoureux and his wife, Julie; great- grandchildren, Heather Johns and her husband, Dean, Amber Yampolski and her husband, Matt, Natalie Naeyaert, Cybil Walker and her husband, Brian, Corrinda, Reagan and Timaree Lamoureux, David, Jordan and Kristen Lamoureux, Amy and Allye Ellwanger; what would have been her first great-great-grandchild is due in June; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Cass City with the Rev. Paul Bala officiating. A vigil service will at 7 p.m. today at the Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City. Interment is in St. Michael Cemetery in Wilmot. Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Pancratius Catholic Church Women's Council or the church's Memorial garden. Rose Lowery Rose Mary Lowery, 80, of Bingham and formerly of Elkton, died on Feb. 21, 2001, at her home. Rose was born on Sept. 4, 1920, in Shamokin, Pa., the daughter of William and Pauline (Dyrlon) Griscavage. She married Gerald Lee Lowery in July, 1958 in Bad Axe. He preceded her in death in 1976. She is survived by her four children, Pam Robbins and her husband, Dan, of Traverse City, Lisa Stark and her husband, B.J., of Suttons Bay, Greg Lowery of Columbus, Ohio and Shannon Gauden and her husband, Chris, of Corona, Calif.; five sisters, Stella Ballagh of Ubly, Fran Priest of Cleveland, Florence B. Bruniski and Rita Siedel, both of Shamokin, Pa., and Val Cahil of Glendora, N.J.; mother-in-law Mary Lowery of Bad Axe; 10 grandchildren, Ashley, Rachel, Samantha, Jordan, Emily, Jenna, Shawn, Kayla, Victoria and Jeremy. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Flory and John; five sisters, Ana, Eleanor, Agnes, Mary and Helen. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Martinson Funeral Home at 115 St. Joseph Ave. in Suttons Bay, with the Rev. Wayne Dziekan officiating. Visitation is at 10 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home. Tuesday, February 27, 2001 Helen Bosch Helen L. Bosch, 76, of Harbor Beach passed away Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw following a brief illness. She was born on Jan. 1, 1925, in Detroit to the late Edwin and Erna (Gutterman) FitzPatrick. She graduated from McKenzie High School in Detroit and later attended Alma College. There she met and then was united in marriage to Dr. Robert Bosch on Jan. 15, 1947, in Alma. They moved to Chicago, Ill. before coming to Harbor Beach. Helen worked many jobs including at the Ford River Rouge Plant, General Telephone and was a volunteer at the Harbor Beach Elementary School as "Picture Lady" and did one-on-one reading with the students. Helen was active in her community as Cub Scout den mother, a member of the United Methodist Church and a Sunday school teacher in Harbor Beach, the United Methodist Women, the Harbor Beach Lioness Club and was president of the Picture Lending Library in Harbor Beach. She loved politics, the arts, reading, gardening, her family and friends and anything Irish. Her unique laugh, genuine caring and concern for others will be greatly missed. Helen is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dr. Robert Bosch, of Harbor Beach; a daughter, Susan Rutkowski, and her husband, Bob, of Harbor Beach; two sons, Michael Bosch and his wife, Sharon, of North Augusta, S.C., and Brian Bosch and his wife, Jeanne, of Harbor Beach; eight grandchildren, Sean, Kevin, Meagan, Derek, Deryl, Stephanie, Samantha, and Zachary; two sisters, Joan FitzPatrick of Novi and Marylou Cox of Canton; one brother, Robert FitzPatrick and his wife, Lorraine, of Pickney; her brother-in-law, Jack Bosch and his wife, Dorie, of Kalamazoo; her best friend, Jolleen Clark of Harbor Beach; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2001, in the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach with the Rev. Clarence VanConant, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Falls Cemetery in Harbor Beach. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Harbor Beach and Eastern Huron Ambulance. Leo Cornett Mr. Leo V. Cornett, 85, of Standish went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Bay Medical Center after a short illness. He was born on Dec. 13, 1915, in Bad Axe to the late Frank and Anna (Schipinski) Cornett. He attended country school. He worked for Dodge Main from 1937 until he retired in 1978. He has resided in Standish for the past 23 years. He belonged to Resurrection of the Lord Church in Standish. He is survived by his special friend, Helen Willett, of Standish; three sisters, Beatrice Mayes of Bay City, Louise Dominick of Rochester Hills, Gladys Schumacher of Houghton Lake; one godson, Frank Mayes and his wife, Margaret, of Sanford Lake; one uncle, Roy Schipinski and his wife, Agnes, of Filion; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2001, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Dwight with the Rev. Metek Oniskiewicz, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Betty Ignash Betty M. Ignash, 77, of Kinde died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Covenant-Harrison Hospital in Saginaw. She was born on Dec. 21, 1923, in Grindstone City to the late Harvey and Nettie (Perdue) Badgley. She attended the Shepherd Rural Country School. Betty was employed by A. Kinde & Co., Bard's Grocery Store, Mayes Level Co., and 20 years at Hutzel Hospital in Detroit. She enjoyed gardening, dogs, walking, and nature. She is survived by four sons, James Robert Ignash and his wife, Colleen Hughes, of Seattle, Wash., Dennis Michael Ignash of Kinde, Richard John Ignash and his wife, Carol, of Southfield, and Brian Ignash of Rogers City; three daughters, Debra Kay Matott and her husband, Richard, of Troy, Lin Marie Gilay of Gladwin, and Ruth Ann Donaldson of Pensacola, Fla.; two brothers, Clayton Badgley and his wife, Betty, of Kinde, and Robert Badgley and his wife, Betty, of Bad Axe; five grandchildren, Richard Matott, Matthew Ignash, Carolyn Ignash, Anna Gilay, and Jessica Gilay; and several nieces and nephews. In keeping with Betty's wishes, her body will be donated to the University of Michigan Medical School. A Memorial Service will be conducted at a later date. Box 130, Bad Axe, MI 48413. James Schumacher Mr. James Howard Schumacher, 69, formerly of Minden City, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at his son's residence in Barryton under hospice care. He was born on April 11, 1932, in Minden City to the late Joseph and Emma (Halifax) Schumacher. He was a graduate of Minden City School. He worked as a grave digger for many area cemeteries and labored for Surface Mausoleum Co. for 27 years before he retired. He was a former parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church and former fire chief of Minden City. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards with his friends. The family would like to acknowledge a special thank you to Emma "Trotter" Bush for the exceptional care she administered to our Dad during his bout with cancer. He is survived by six sons, Robert Schumacher and his wife, Matsuko, of Lake, Kenneth Schumacher and his wife, Bernadette, of Minden City, James Schumacher of Flint, David Schumacher and his wife, Karen, of Lennon, John Schumacher and his wife, Marlea, of Waterford, Mark Schumacher and his wife, Rhonda, of Flushing; four daughters, Rose Marie Medrano of Flint, Arlene Brown and her husband, Charles, of North Branch, Barb Walsh and her husband, Douglas, of Flushing, Lisa Copenhaver and her husband, Marvin, of Burton; 37 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; several brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Rebecca and Joseph Schumacher; one great-grandson, Albert Vogel; one daughter-in-law, Virginia Schumacher; one son- in-law, Alfonso Finateri. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at the Smigielski Funeral Home on Cass Avenue in Minden City with the Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 9:30 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Wednesday, February 28, 2001 - None Thursday, March 1, 2001 - None Friday, March 2, 2001 Margaret Holdwick Margaret M. Holdwick, 85, of Harbor Beach passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2001, in the Harbor Beach Community Hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Harbor Beach on May 9, 1915, to the late John and Mary (Bischer) Holdwick. Margaret was a faithful member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena and the Altar Society. For many years, Margaret took care of the roses at St. Anthony's Shrine. She enjoyed being out of doors gardening, working on the farm and raising her chickens. She is survived by her sister, Magdalene Roggenbuck; her two brothers, Harry Holdwick and James Holdwick, all of Harbor Beach; and by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Stella Kramer, Beatrice Holdwick and Marie Holdwick; and by three brothers: Norman, Jerome and Clarence Holdwick. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2001, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Helena, with the Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A parish vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. and an Altar Society Rosary at 8 p.m. on Sunday, both in the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, from 1 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the church. William Hunter William D. Hunter, 70, resident of Bloomfield Hills, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at his home. He was born in Detroit on May 24, 1930, to William A. and Helen (Perdue) Hunter. He graduated from Southeastern High School in Detroit and attended Michigan State University for a year before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Bill became a die model builder and was employed at the Chrysler Corp. in Highland Park until illness caused him to take early retirement. He was a talented artist and enjoyed painting and jewelry making. In his youth he enjoyed summers spent at the Perdue family farm near Grindstone City and the companionship of his many cousins. He is survived by his son, William James Hunter, of Keego Harbor; his daughter, Catherine Ellias of Sylvan Lake; one grandson, John Ellias; one sister, Dorothea Hunter and her husband, Herman Koss, of Detroit and Kinde; and many cousins. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Samuel Messing Samuel Arthur Messing, 52, of Ruth, passed away Thursday morning, March 1, 2001, at his residence due to smoke inhalation from a house fire. He was born Sept. 14, 1948, in Harbor Beach, son of the late Arthur and Catherine (Clor) Messing. He was never married. He was a graduate of St. Peter & Paul High School of Ruth in 1967. He worked for Deckerville Die Form for 18 years as a stock handler. He was employed by St. Peter & Paul School for five years in building maintenance. He was a parishioner of St. Peter & Paul Church and had been an altar assistant. He was a member of the Sandusky Knights of Columbus Council #4693. He was presently employed at Davenport University of Bad Axe. He is survived by five brothers, Carl and his wife, Rose Ann, of Utica, Harold and his wife, Jo Ann, of Ruth, Daniel and his wife, Matilda, of Harbor Beach, George and his wife, Diane, of Ruth, Harvey and his wife, Elaine, of East Lansing; two sisters, Mildred Vogel and her husband, Daniel, of Minden City, and Mary Ann Leppek of Harbor Beach. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Michael Leppek; and several nieces and nephews. Per his request, there will be no visitation. A private memorial service will take place at a future date. Burial will be at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery of Ruth in the spring. Arrangements are being handled by the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home of Ubly. 1
