Guitar, 76, of Warren and formerly of Parisville, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001 in the presence of her loving family. She was born May 5, 1925 in Parisville to the late Aloysius and Martha (Moy) Gwisdalla. She married Wilbert A. Pawlowski at St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville on Aug. 20, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1974. She married Eugene A. Guitar at St. Cletus Catholic Church of Warren on Sep. 27, 1991. She is survived by her husband, Eugene; two sons, Gary Pawlowski and his wife, Lorna, of Waterford, and Bert Pawlowski and his wife, Carol, of Oak Park; four daughters, Janet Banda of Caseville, Sharon Comerford and her husband, David, Linda Hemphill and her husband, Robert, of Waterford, and Joan Zalewski and her husband, Donald, of Center Line; two step-sons, Allen Guitar and his wife, Karen, and Darrell Guitar and his wife, Darlene; one step-daughter, Pam Balas and her husband, Chris; one sister, Elsie Kozfkay; 10 grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Dianne and Mary (infant); two brothers, Alvin and Ernie; and two sisters, Eleanor and Sylvia; and one son-in-law, Attilio (Tio) Banda. She was laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery. Albert Mazure Mr. Albert J. Mazure, 85, of Bad Axe died Friday morning, Sept. 28, 2001 at his residence under hospice care after an extended illness. He was born June 16, 1916 in Bad Axe, son of the late August and Anna (Richard) Mazure. He married Judy Collings on Oct. 25, 1975 at Sacred Heart Parish of Bad Axe. He was a graduate of Bad Axe High School. He farmed until 1995. He was the former treasurer and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #1546 of Bad Axe and a Third Degree Member. He was a member of the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed trapping, hunting and fishing. He was a very active worker at the K of C bingos and fish frys. He is survived by his wife, Judy, of Bad Axe; two sons, Michael of Belleville and Joshua at home; two daughters, Jody and Rosalie at home; many brother and sister-in-laws; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Theresa Mazure, Eleanor Thiel, and Agnes Maedel, and three brothers, Henry, John, and Joseph Mazure. Funeral mass will be Monday, Oct. 1, 2001 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Rapson. The Rev. John Weis, pastor, of St. Joseph will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be a parish scripture service at 3:30 p.m. today by The Rev. John Weis, and a rosary by the Bad Axe Knights of Columbus at 8 p.m. Both services will be at the funeral home. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home of Ubly from 12:30 to 9:30 p.m. today, and noon until 1:30 p.m. Monday. Beverly Rochefort Beverly J. Rochefort, 67, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001 at Covenant Health Care in Saginaw following a brief illness. She was born Aug. 26, 1934 in Detroit, daughter of the late Charles and Vera Kleinow. She dearly loved her grandchildren and enjoyed bingo and cross stitch. Surviving are two sons, Harold R. Rochefort, Jr., of Sebewaing, and Roger Rochefort and his wife, Tracy, of Unionville; one daughter, Terri and her husband, John Backus of Sebewaing; six grandchildren, Megan, Marshall, Johnny, Jessica, Billy, and Karlie; one brother, Donald and his wife, Donna Kleinow of Lexington; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother. Visitation will be at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday. Cremation will take place at Sunset Valley Crematory with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the family. Jack Shaltonis Jack Shaltonis, 79, of Bad Axe died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001 at the Huron County Medical Care Facility, Bad Axe, after a long illness. He was born Jan. 8, 1922 in Hamtramck, son of the late Leo and Patricia (Warakai) Shaltonis. Mr. Shaltonis was a WWII Veteran, serving as a PFC in the Marine Corps. He was stationed in the South Pacific, serving in the Guadalcanal Campaign. Surviving are one son, Steve, and his wife, Carrie, of Bad Axe; two daughters, Pat Prince and her husband, Paul, of East Pointe, and Judy Mattice and her husband, Pat, of Bad Axe; one son-in-law, Dave Hutchison, and his wife, Deb, of Caro; 12 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. One daughter, Janet Hutchison, one sister, Tillie Cotton, and one grandson, Dennis Eisinger, preceded him in death. Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at the H.W. Weitenberner Funeral Home, Bad Axe. The Rev. Jerry Sutton, pastor of the Bad Axe Free Methodist Church, will officiate. Private burial will follow in Colfax Township Cemetery. Ella Thorp Ella Faye Thorp, 93, of Caro died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001 in Caro Community Hospital, Caro. She was born Sept. 21, 1908 in Wells Township to John F. and Wilhemina (Froede) Curry. She married Paul Thorp Aug. 21, 1930 in Saginaw. He died Jan. 8, 1983. Ella lived within miles from where she was born. She worked for Ripleys in Cass City, WN Clark in Caro, as a sales lady for Dibbles, Thumb Laundry in Caro, and as a housekeeper at Active Homes. Ella attended Kingston Wesleyan Church. She was a former member of the Tuscola County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and knitting. Her grandchildren were very important to her. Ella is survived by her children, LaVerne P. "Jim" Thorp and his wife, Barbara Jean, of Davison, Richard "Dutch" Thorp and his wife, Nila, of Caro, Gerald Thorp and his wife, Sharon, of Caro; a daughter-in-law, Eileen Thorp of Caro; 11 grandchildren and their spouses; 15 great- grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Laura Thorp and Hettie Curry; brother-in-law, Cecil Osgerby; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Douglas W., in 1995; brothers John W. "Bill" Curry, Carl Curry, George Curry; sister, Lela Parsons; and sisters-in-law, Susie Francis, Lillie Curry, and Nelda Osgerby. Koroleski, 78, a lifelong resident of Kinde died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility after a short illness. She was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Harvey, N.D., to the late Michael and Barbara (Kunnanz) Richter. She was united in marriage to Al "Bones" Koroleski in 1949 in Selz, N.D. He preceded her in death. Barbara worked at Active Industries and Hamill Manufacturing and was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church. Her hobbies included crocheting, cooking and visiting with her family and grandchildren. She is survived by two sons, Lloyd "Chuck" Koroleski and his wife, Karen, of Bay City, and James Koroleski and his wife, Karen, of Kinde; one daughter, Joanne Stirrett and her husband, Terry, of Kinde; one grandson, Christopher and his wife, Melissa; one granddaughter, Holly; one great-grandson, Logan; two brothers, John and Maddis; and four sisters, Catherine, Christine, Marion and Eunice. Barbara was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Sara Stirrett; two sisters, Ceil and Ella Mae; and three brothers, George, Anton and Pius. In keeping with Barbara's wishes, cremation took place and there will be a private service at St. Edward's church for the family. Wednesday, October 3, 2001 Leonard Bezemek Leonard Tony Bezemek, 82, of Ubly died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Covenant Harrison Hospital in Saginaw after a long illness. He was born on Jan. 17, 1919, in Tyre, son of the late Matthias and Martha (Grimski) Bezemek. He married Irene Wrubel on Oct. 11, 1941, at St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville. He was a graduate of the South Tyre School. He farmed in Bingham Township and worked for the Tyre Elevator and the Bach Elevator in Capac, retiring in 1981. He has been a parishioner at St. John Catholic Church of Ubly since 1946 and was a former parish council member. He enjoyed softball, cards, and hunting. He was a former member of the Ubly Senior Citizens. He is survived by his wife, Irene, of Ubly; two daughters, Leona Thayer and her husband, John, of St. Johns and Marie Bezemek at home; two sons, Thomas Bezemek and his wife, Diane, of Ubly and Ken Bezemek and his wife, Marilyn, of Burt; eight grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; one sister, Grace Lemanski of South Lyon; one brother, Orville Bezemek of Westland. He was preceded in death by one son, Alvin Bezemek on Jan. 9, 1960; one brother-in-law, Frank Lemanski; one sister-in-law, Celia Bezemek. In keeping with Leonard's wishes, funeral services will be private. Cremation took place and burial will be in St. John Cemetery in Ubly at a later date. Janet Church Mrs. Janet Marie Church, 57, of Gagetown passed away Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 2, 2001, at her residence. She was born in Cass City on March 1, 1944, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Keel) Creason. On Oct. 21, 1972, she married Neuman Church in Owosso. Mrs. Church was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary, Cass City Post No. 3644, and was a member of the Friendship Club of Owosso and the Mid-Thumb Crickets Chapter No. 95 of the Good Sams Club. Surviving along with her husband, Neuman, are her sons Brian and Robert Mosher, both of Cass City, and Lyle Church and his wife, Rose, of Owendale; a daughter, Lori Church of Pigeon; a granddaughter, Jasmine M. Church; brothers Gerry Creason and his wife, Harriet, of Deford, and William Creason and his wife, Jean, of Virginia; sisters Nancy Urban and her husband, David, of Cass City, and Becky Halasz and her husband, Joseph, of Gagetown; and several nieces and nephews. Thursday, October 4, 2001 Threasa Prill Threasa Prill, 91, a lifelong resident of Kinde, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born on Jan. 13, 1910, to the late Peter and Martha (Kalka) Lemanski. Threasa was united in marriage to Felix Prill on June 15, 1929. He passed away in 1997. Threasa was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dwight Township. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting and growing flowers. She is survived by three sons, Ernest Prill and his wife, Betty, of Madison Heights, Maynard Prill and his wife, Mary Ann, of Lapeer, Benny Prill and his wife, Betty, of Kinde; two daughters, Phyllis Page of Warren, Gloria Schad and her husband, Ted, of Marlette; three brothers, Victor Lemanski and his wife, Beatrice, of Bad Axe, Lucien Lenn and his wife, Ester, of Marysville, Elmer Lenn of Marysville; three sisters, Emma Butch of Marysville, Lillian Allen of Flint, Sylvia Smith of Marysville; a sister-in-law, Emma Lemanski of Bad Axe; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; one step- great-grandchild. Friday, October 5, 2001 Olrich Cilc Olrich "King" Cilc, 81, of Caseville died Wednesday evening, Oct. 3, 2001, at his home after a long illness. He was born on Nov. 20, 1919, at the home of his parents, the late Joseph and Mary (Hladik) Cilc in Detroit. On June 1, 1942, he was united in marriage to Bertha May Devroye in Macon, Ga. while he was serving in the Air Force. King moved with his family to Caseville as a child. He farmed for a while before working as a layout man at Michigan Oven Co., from where he retired in 1984, after working for more than 36 years. He was a past member of the American Legion and served in the United States Air Force from 1941 to 1945 in Casablanca, Africa during World War II. He enjoyed polka dancing, fishing, hunting, going to Walt's Restaurant and spending time with his family and friends. Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Bertha; two daughters, Kitty Jensen and her husband, Frantz, of Kinschloe and Marty Murdoch and her husband, Orlin, of Bay Port; six grandchildren, Allen, Christopher, Mark, Tracy, Jenny and Nicole; four brothers, Joseph Cilc, and his wife, Grace, Jerry Cilc and his wife, Jean, Tony Cilc and his wife, Gerry, and Jim Cilc and his wife, Marilee, all of Caseville; four sisters, Blanche Wilfong and her husband, Jack, of Boise, Idaho, Gale Swidorski and her husband, Tom, of Hemlock, Penny Addy and her husband, Dick and Sylvia Kanyak and her husband, Don, all of Caseville; many nieces and nephews. Judy Glaza Mrs. Judy Kay Glaza, 54, of Ubly passed away Friday morning, Oct. 5, 2001, at her residence under hospice care. She was born May 5, 1947, in Bad Axe, daughter of John and Dorothy (Stirrett) Nugent. She married Arnold Glaza on July 27, 1968, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Saginaw. Judy was a graduate of Ubly High School in 1965. She graduated from Ferris State University in 1967 with an associate's degree as a dental assistant. She worked 28 years as a dispatcher for the Huron County Sheriff's Department and Central Dispatch. She was also owner of Aunt Judy's Collectibles. Judy was a parishioner at St. John Catholic Church of Ubly, where she was a member of St. John Christian Mothers Circle No. 4 Queen of Angels. She was also a former Eucharistic Minister at the parish. She was a member of the Jubilee Singers and the Ubly Girls Royal Highlanders Bagpipe Group. She was also a member of the Med-Control Board. She loved music, antiques, traveling and hosting family gatherings. She enjoyed spending time with her two grandchildren. Judy is survived by her husband, Arnold, of Ubly; two sons, Scott Glaza of Alma, and Chad Glaza and his wife, Cristy, of Gaylord; two grandchildren, Jake and Catie Glaza of Gaylord; her parents, John and Dorothy Nugent of Weidman; two brothers, Jerry Nugent and his wife, Diane, of Davison, and Warren Nugent and his wife, Mary Jane, of Bath; one sister, Elrae Herp and her husband, Jerry, of Ubly; mother-in- law, Gertrude Glaza of Ubly; brothers-in-law, Orville Glaza and his wife, Marcia, of Ubly, and Lawrence Glaza and his wife, Doty, of Ubly; sister-in-law, Marie Roberts and her husband, Bill, of Ubly; and several nieces and nephews. Elizabeth Upthegrove Elizabeth Upthegrove, 94, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She enjoyed crocheting, homemaking and visiting with friends. She was born on Oct. 23, 1906, to the late Nicholaus and Elizabeth (Remsing) Bambach in Catasauqua, Pa. She was a resident of Meade Township for 78 years. Elizabeth and Dewey Upthegrove were united in marriage on Sept. 9, 1923, in Kinde. He passed away on April 10, 1986. She is survived by two daughters, Delores Johnson of Kinde, Shirley Tostevin and her husband, John, of Dansville; one brother, Frank Bambach and his wife, Theresa of Kinde; two sisters, Lena Meharg of Alymer, Ont., Canada and Theresa Bambach of Lansing; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, seven great-great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Floyd Melvin Upthegrove; a son-in-law, Jim Johnson; three sisters, Susan Craig, Sophia Doner and Katherine Schorsch; five brothers, Tony Bambach, Jake Bambach, William Bambach, John Bambach and Nick Bambach. There will be a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at MacAlpine Funeral Home Gage Chapel in Kinde. Burial will be in Souletown Cemetery in Chandler Township.
