Fuhrman, 81, lifelong Bloomfield Township farmer, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2002 at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. He was born Sept. 24, 1920, in Bloomfield Township, son of the late William and Ida (Kesterke) Fuhrman. He married Yvonne Rink on Dec. 12, 1981 in St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope. In his youth he attended the Swayze School. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope, the Port Hope Retirees, the Grindstone-Port Hope Sportsmen's Club, and the Caseville Eagles. He is survived by one son, Eric Gaebel; one sister-in-law, Darlene Rothe and her husband, Raymond, of Bad Axe; one brother-in-law, Wade Cohoon and his wife, Naomi, of Denver Col.; four nieces, Lynette Long and her husband, Rick, of Bad Axe, Vicki Williams and her husband, Chris, of Sebewaing, Kimberly Rothe of Bad Axe, and Elizabeth Marx of Denver; eight nephews, Raymond Rothe II and his wife, Jenny, of Bad Axe, Roger Rothe of Bay City, Wade Cohoon of Hartford, Wisc., and Peter, James, Timothy, Matthew, and Steven Cohoon of Denver; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Arnold Fuhrman, and one sister, Lucille Fuhrman. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2002, at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope. The Rev. Gregory Eilers, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Marquardt Cemetery. Visitation is from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, and 1-9 p.m. Wednesday at Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe, and from noon until the time of service Thursday at the church. Memorials may be offered to St. John Lutheran Church, St. John Hymnal Fund, or the Harbor Beach Ambulance. H. Iris Hartshorn H. Iris Hartshorn, 96, of Caseville, died Saturday morning, June 1, 2002 at the Sunny Acres Nursing Center in Bad Axe. She was born May 22, 1906 in Bad Axe, daughter of the late LeRoy and Nellie (Wilson) Terwilliger. On Aug. 20, 1926 she was united in marriage to Arthur A. Hartshorn in Detroit. He preceded her in death Feb. 13, 1972. Mrs. Hartshorn was a 1924 graduate of Bad Axe High School and attended Olivet College. She and her husband Arthur owned and operated the Erwin Hotel, at the main corner in Bad Axe where Signature Bank is now located. After their son, Arthur, was killed in Korea they sold the hotel and purchased a men's clothing store in Pigeon, Hartshorn's Men's Wear. They also developed Hartshorn's Oak Point Lake Subdivision in Caseville Township, where she resided until recently. Surviving are two daughters, JoAnn Rogers and her husband, Gerald, of Bad Axe, and Harriet Detrick of Caseville; her son-in-law, James Keckler of Kalamazoo; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her son Arthur; a daughter, Grace E. Keckler; and a son-in-law, Jerome Kuhn. In keeping with her wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. A memorial service will be announced at a later time. Burial will be in Colfax Township Cemetery. Memorials may be given to a place of the donor's choice. Stanton, 43, life-long resident of Bad Axe, died Friday, May 31, 2002, at his home following a long illness. He was born July 22, 1958 in Bad Axe, the son of the late Carl J. and Lillian O. (Edwards) Stanton. Phillip and Lonny Schweigert were united in marriage in Bad Axe on Dec. 30, 1980. Phillip graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1976. He was a member of Bad Axe First United Methodist Church where he served as an usher. He worked as a glazier with his brothers in the family business, Thumb Glass Company. Phillip enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and visiting with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Lonny; three brothers, Richard Stanton of Bad Axe, Dennis Stanton and his wife, Kyle, of Athens, Mich., and Michael Stanton of Bad Axe; and several nieces and nephews. Phillip was predeceased by a sister, Pamela J. Stanton. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, at MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. The Rev. Memorials may be offered to the Family Discretionary Fund. Monday, June 3, 2002 Eugene Peruski Eugene V. Peruski, 62, of Palms died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at McKenzie Hospital Memorial Hospital in Sandusky. He was born June 11, 1939, in Tyre, son of Sophie (Pokora) and the late Joseph J. Peruski. He married Marlene Sharbowski on Nov. 14, 1959, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Palms. He worked as a foreman for Nolan and Jarvicks building bridges and for Michigan Bridge for five years. He then started his own successful business, E. Peruski Builder, which he ran for 37 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, visiting casinos and being with his family. He was a parishioner of St. Patrick Church in Palms, president of the Minden City Snowmobile Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus Ruth Council No. 3823. He is survived by his wife, Marlene, of Palms; three daughters, Geraldine Garza and her husband, Louie, of Deckerville, Dorene Schumacher and her husband, Glen, of Deckerville and Charlene Peruski and her husband, Carl, of Minden City; eight grandchildren, Chris Garza of Deckerville and his special friend, Andrea Noble, Cory and Jennifer Schumacher of Croswell, Jason Schumacher of Bad Axe, Gina Garza of Deckerville, Ryan Peruski of Minden City, Janelle Garza of Deckerville, Justine Peruski of Minden City, Tyler Peruski of Minden City; his mother, Sophie Peruski of Ubly; three brothers, Leonard Peruski and his wife, Judy, of Bad Axe, Glenn Peruski of Ubly and Tom Peruski and his wife, Diane, of Cass City; four sisters, Bernice Smith and her husband, Duane, of Carsonville; Angeline Baranski and her husband, Dan, of Owendale, Rosemary Lamere and her husband, Norman, of Carsonville and Susie Romain and her husband, Bob, of Ubly; many nieces and nephews. Quack, 91, of Argyle Township died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at her residence under hospice care. She was born on March 14, 1911, in Argyle, daughter of the late Henry and Emma (Kippen) Darr. She married Victor Shagena in 1926 in Sandusky. He preceded her in death in 1970. She married George Quack on Oct. 6, 1972, at the Ubly United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 1980. She attended Tamarack Country School. She worked at the Cumber Grocery & Bar and then worked at the bomber plant in Willow Run for a few years. She returned to the Argyle area to raise a family and worked at Deckerville Die Form. She was a member of the Ubly United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cards, word search puzzles, quilting, gardening and senior citizen visiting. She is survived by two daughters, June Lapp and her husband, George, of Cass City and Shirley Hund and her husband, Robert, of Sterling Heights; one son, Carl Krumenacker and his wife, Linda, of Ubly; 11 grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren; one sister, Helen Beam of Marysville; one brother, Glen Darr and his wife, Roberta, of Cass City. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Gary Lapp; six sisters, Clara Campbel, Anna Thorell, Margaret Peterson, Elsie Graham, Laura Armstead and Emma Franzel; two brothers, Ray and Anthony Darr. Smith, 83, of Caseville for the last 12 years and former resident of Colfax Township, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at the Huron Medical Care Facility following a long illness. Mrs. Smith was born on Aug. 7, 1918, in Green Bay, Wisc., daughter of the late Joseph and Mabel (Wulf) Larmay. Miss Lucilia M. Larmay and Harold Roy Smith were married on Sept. 13, 1935, in Bad Axe. Mr. Smith preceded his wife in death on Nov. 12, 1989. Mrs. Smith was employed at the former Mayes Level Co. in Port Austin and Cole's Restaurant and Dairy Bar in Bad Axe. She enjoyed wood crafting, gardening and bingo. Lucilia is survived by one daughter, Shirley Dell and her husband, Jack, of Fort Meyers, Fla. and Caseville; one grandson, Denis Dell and his wife, Kimberly, of Clinton Township; one granddaughter, Cindy; one brother and sister-in-law, Lyman Smith and his wife, Marilyn, of Bad Axe. She was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Smith and infant Richard Smith; one grandson, Darren Dell. Tuesday, June 4, 2002 Pearl Arnott Pearl Vivian Arnott, 94, of Bad Axe died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at her home following a brief illness. She was born Sept. 26, 1907, in Bad Axe, daughter of the late William Henry and Bertha (Hollingshead) Robarts. Miss Pearl V. Robarts and Charles M. Arnott Jr. were married July 9, 1927, in Bad Axe. Pearl was a well-known store clerk in Bad Axe during the late 1940s and 1950s. Pearl is survived by three sons, Donald and his wife, Marilyn, of South Haven, Robert Arnott of Laingsburg and James Arnott and his wife, Sue, of Bad Axe; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gladys, in 1940; her husband, Charles, in March 1973; sister, Lula Arnott; brothers, William, Clifford and Charles Robarts. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. The Rev. Jan Dykshoorn of First Presbyterian Church of Bad Axe will officiate. Scott McKnight Scott David McKnight, 43, of Marquette entered eternal life on Sunday, June 2, 2002, at the UP Home Health and Hospice Inpatient Unit at Bell Memorial Hospital in Ishpeming in the care and comfort of his family and the caregivers of UP Home Health and Hospice. He was in ill health since July 2001 and was hospitalized for the past two weeks. Scott was born on April 13, 1959, in Bad Axe, son of David and Bonnie (McKenzie) McKnight. He was raised in Gladstone and was a 1977 graduate of Gladstone Public High School. He later received his licensed practical nursing training from the school of nursing at Northern Michigan University. He was employed at Marquette General Hospital as an LPN for the last six and a half years. He attended the Church of Our Savior. He is survived by his daughter, Hannah Ferguson and her husband, Dana, of Marquette; two sons, Benjamin and Jesse McKnight, both of Marquette; grandsons, Jake and Oliver Ferguson; parents, David and Bonnie McKnight; sister, Traci Challender and her husband, Roy; brother, Steve McKnight and his wife, Joy, all of Gladstone; fiancee, Kathryn Monteith of Deerton; former wife, Penny McKnight of Madison, Wis.; several nieces and nephews. Scott was preceded in death by a daughter, Leah Kae McKnight. The funeral services took place at 11 a.m. today at the Bethel Baptist Church in Marquette. Burial took place in Park Cemetery. Wright, 55, of Cass City died unexpectedly Sunday, June 2, 2002, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. Wednesday, June 5, 2002 Mark Reinke Mark Richard Reinke, 40, of Bad Axe passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at his home. Born in Harbor Beach on June 29, 1961, he was the son of Willard and Ramona (Johnston) Reinke. He was employed by Huron Behavioral Health in Bad Axe. Mark was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope. Thursday, June 6, 2002 - None Friday, June 7, 2002 Delbert Copeland Delbert K. Copeland, 81, of Filion died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Huron Medical Center. He was born on March 29, 1921, in Ubly, son of the late Burton and Alice (Guigar) Copeland. Delbert married Loraine Bentley. She preceded him in death in 1977. Mr. Copeland was a lifelong farmer and milk hauler in Harbor Beach and Verona. His hobbies included attending auctions and farm sales. He was a veteran of World War II during which he drove trucks for the United States Army in Germany. He is survived by one daughter, Julia Goodwin and her husband, Andy, of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Clifford Copeland of Bull Head, Ariz.; one sister, Ietta Johnston of Las Vegas, Nev.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Delbert was preceded in death by his son, Garry Copeland; two brothers, Roy Copeland and Gerald Copeland. Gerald Black Gerald E. Black, 88, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Bay Medical Care Facility in Essexville. He was born March 1, 1914, in Pigeon, son of the late George and Lillian (Lowry) Black. He was married to Jennibel Hart, who preceded him in death on Dec. 5, 1986. Gerald was employed as hardware manager at Sears, Roebuck & Co. in Bay City for 30 years before retiring 25 years ago. He loved to travel and wintered in Tarpon Springs, Fla., for more than 20 years. There are no known survivors. A memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Bay Medical Care Facility chapel in Essexville. "Geri" Kretzschmer, 51, of Owendale died Thursday, June 6, 2002, in her home after a long illness. She was born Oct. 18, 1950, in Alpena to Edward R. and Georgene (Manning) Donakowski. She married Charles L. "Yogi" Kretzschmer on April 14, 1970, in Toledo. Geri worked for Combined Insurance for nearly 10 years as an assistant regional manager and national staff member. She worked for Central States Insurance as vice president. For 13 years, Geri owned and operated Senior Care Insurance Services, providing many products to the elderly. She attended Delta College and Saginaw Valley State University. Geri truly loved and enjoyed working with her clients. She was a very active member of Owendale United Methodist Church. She enjoyed music and played by ear piano, organ and harmonica. Over the years, Geri and Charles hosted many foreign exchange students and cared for many foster children. She was very artistic, using her gift in drawing and ceramics. She loved vacationing with her family and friends. In her earlier years, she enjoyed politics. Geri was very charismatic person. She was giving with her mind, hands and heart. Geri is survived by her husband, Charles; daughters, Mardi Pavlicheck and her husband, Christopher, of Owendale, Dr. Bradi Kretzschmer Boyce and her husband, Dr. Brent M. Boyce, of Harper Woods and Kelly Gruber and her husband, William J. Jr., of Gagetown; mother, Georgene Carpenter and her husband, Thomas, of Bay City and Alpena; grandson, Blake Maxwell Gruber, and a second grandchild is due in January; step-grandchildren, David and Dillon Pavlicheck; brothers, David Donakowski and his wife, Barbara, of Bay City, St. Clair Donakowski and his wife, Ann, of Grayling; sister, Roberta Sullivan and her husband, David, of Brighton and Bay City; sister-in-law, Joyce Goodman and her husband, Robert, of Grand Ledge; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Kretzschmer of Owendale; nieces and nephews, Michelle Aho, Greg Donakowski. Memorials may be made to Owendale United Methodist Church. Arlene Miller Arlene R. Miller, 69, of Kinde passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon following a long illness. She was born on Sept. 26, 1932, in Port Austin, daughter of the late Norman and Mary (Hoody) Bouverette. She married Edward Miller on Sept. 30, 1950, in St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Dwight, St. Mary Holy Rosary Sodality, the Extension Group and the Bible class. She is survived by her husband, Edward Miller, of Kinde; four sons, Michael Miller and his wife, Barb, of Harbor Beach, David Miller and his wife, Sylvia, of Cass City, Mark Miller and his wife, Donna, of Sebewaing and Christopher Miller and his wife, Melissa, of Gagetown; four daughters, Mary Celestino and her husband, Ricardo, of Newport News, Va., Barbara Miller and friend, Brian Kosal, of Bad Axe, Rebecca Gerdeman and her husband, William, of Roy, Utah; one sister, Patricia Gusa and her husband, Andrew, of Minden City; two aunts, Ann Goretski of Hamburg, N.Y. and Clara Hoody of St. Clair Shores; 18 grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A parish vigil service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Sunday with a holy rosary sodality service to follow at 7:30 p.m. along with a Daughters of Isabella ceremony at 8:30 p.m. at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Visitation is from 1 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home and 10 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church. 1
