Sunday, October 6, 2002 Janet Lee Eads Janet Lee (Gingrich) Eads of Brooklyn went home to be with her Lord on Thursday Oct. 3, 2002 at the age of 50 after a long courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Barry Eads; three children, Jessie, Jodi and Daniel Eads; parents, James and Eileen Gingrich of Bad Axe; two brothers, Dave Gingrich and his wife, Nancy, of Potsdam, N.Y., Jeff Gingrich and his wife, Emily, of Germantown, Tenn; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Eads was a member of Jackson Free Methodist Church. She graduated from Spring Arbor University with a degree in education and graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a masters degree. She taught at Vandercook High School and was dedicated to coaching women's sports. She enjoyed spending time at home with her family and being around her horses. Funeral services will take place at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2002 at the Jackson Free Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas Ramundo officiating. Interment will take place in Roseland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Wetherby Funeral Home, 402 Wildwood Ave. in Jackson, and from 2 p.m. Monday until the time of service at the church. Helen Greyerbiehl Helen Mae (Hill) Greyerbiehl, 83, life-long resident of Bad Axe, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002 in Pigeon. She was born June 13, 1919 in Bad Axe to the late Ira and Anabell (Hubbard) Hill. Helen and Lester Greyerbiehl were united in marriage on June 21, 1937 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe by Fr. Leo Dorsey. Lester preceded her in death on August 25, 1995. Helen enjoyed visiting with relatives and friends and playing euchre. She is survived by five sons: Michael Greyerbiehl and his wife, Beverly, of Bad Axe; Patrick Greyerbiehl and his wife, Vicki, of Bad Axe; George Greyerbiehl and his wife, Mary, of Bad Axe; Douglas Greyerbiehl and his wife, Tammera, of Ubly; and Paul Greyerbiehl of Bad Axe; six daughters, Shirley Leppek and her husband, Raymond, of Bad Axe; Nancy Janik and her husband, Henry, of Bad Axe; Janet Sweeney and her husband, Edward, of Cass City; Patricia Grigg of Bad Axe; Theresa Provot and her husband, Philip of Coldwater; Brenda Kreh and her husband, Thomas, of Pigeon; four sisters-in-law, Viola Hill of Bad Axe, Irene Glatt of Florida, Virginia Greyerbiehl of Bay City, and Helen Hill of Owosso; one brother-in-law, Charles Greyerbiehl of Filion; 46 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Greyerbiehl; one sister, Beatrice Brzezinski; three brothers, George, Kenneth and Walter Hill. Mass of Christina burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2002 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Fr. John Killop will officiate. A scripture service will be at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Huntington's Disease Society of America or donor's choice. Carl Stelter Carl Stelter, 93, of Grand Blanc, died Thursday. Oct. 3, 2002 at Genesys Health Park. Mr. Stelter was born Nov. 21, 1908, in Bridgman, son of Leo and Amelia Stelter. He lived in Flint from 1943 to 1970, then Caseville from 1970 to 1996, then moving to Grand Blanc. Carl graduated from Bridgman High School in 1927. While in high school he played baseball and basketball and was on three state championship basketball teams. He received a degree from Western Michigan University and later a masters degree from Michigan State University. He and Ruth Miriam Myers were married on Oct. 20, 1934, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 7, 2002. His career spanned many years of teaching and coaching in Baroda, and Davison High School. He taught and coached at Flint Northern High School where he was Dean of Boys from 1943 to 1954. He then taught at Garfield Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary School and Shelby Elementary School where he was principal from 1956 to 1970. He was a school board member at Caseville from 1970 to 1986, a former member of the board of directors of the Michigan Association of School boards, a member of the Michigan Sports Sages for 25 years, a member of Phi Delta Kapa for 35 years, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Caseville for 15 years. He was the first Director of the Flint-Hamilton CAN/USA games. Carl was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed life, teaching and helping his students. He also loved to fish, play golf and garden. Surviving are his son, Hugh Leonard Stelter, and daughter-in-law Gretchen (Kuehn) Stelter of Grand Blanc, and a grandson, Dale Robert Stelter, of Grand Blanc. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday Oct. 8, 2002 at the Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd. in Flint. Chaplin Hank Messing will officiate with burial to follow at the Caseville Township Cemetery in Caseville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Genesys Convalescent Center Activities Room. Elizabeth Wahl Elizabeth E. Wahl, 85, formerly of Bad Axe, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002 in Fort Gratiot. She was born on Sept. 1, 1917 in Kinde to the late William R. and Florence (Kent) Everingham. Elizabeth and Duane Wahl were married July 10, 1938. He preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1984. Elizabeth enjoyed walking, reading, baking and spending time with her family. She was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bad Axe. She is survived by two daughters, Harriet Poyhonen and her husband, John, of Trinity, Fla., and Reinette Goldsworthy and her husband, James, of Fort Gratiot; three grandsons; three great-grandchildren; one brother, William Everingham of Florida; four sisters, Lois Everingham of Caseville, Charlotte Nickle of Saginaw, Adelaide Markle of Lansing and Aileen Tamblyn of Hillsdale. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. A memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Jan Dykshoorn officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or Blue Water Hospice. Monday, October 07, 2002 - None Tuesday, October 8, 2002 Genevieve Kohr Genevieve M. Kohr, 92, of Pigeon passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe following a brief illness. She was born in Saginaw on Aug. 14, 1910, the daughter of the late John T. and Mary Ann (Slattery) Gaynor. She graduated from Detroit Cathedral High School in 1928 and attended the Detroit Business Institute for two years. On March 12, 1932, she was united in marriage to Donald Edwin Kohr in Detroit. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1990. Mrs. Kohr worked as secretary for a Detroit law firm for five years prior to moving to Huron County in 1948. She was a homemaker throughout her lifetime and was known as an excellent baker and seamstress. She was a member of the Caseville Library Club and the Young Mothers Club. Mrs. Kohr was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville as well as the Women's Society at the church. She loved to play bridge and enjoyed golfing and was an active member of the Scenic Golf and Country Club. Her survivors include two sons, William R. Kohr and his wife, Mary Jane, of Duluth, Ga. and John P. Kohr and his wife, Dianne, of Pigeon; seven grandchildren, Jill, Jackie, Bobby, Kathy, Carrie, John Jr. and Susan; nine great- grandchildren; a brother-in-law, John Helms of Bay Port; and two nephews, a niece, and their families. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Frances. The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon, with Fr. George Serour and Sr. Theresa Fox, O.P. officiating. Burial will be in St. Roch Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home in Pigeon and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the church. Memorials for Mrs. Kohr may be made to St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church or the American Diabetes Association. Ruth Mann Ruth M. Mann, 86, of Sarnia, Ontario died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at Hartland Health Care Facility in Ionia after a long illness. She was born Oct. 5, 1916, in Coldwater, daughter of the late Drury and Gertrude (Williams) Martin. She was the wife of Elsden Mann, who preceded her in death in 1986. Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Fox and her husband, Rodney, of Ionia; one son, Douglas Durkee of Hamilton, Ontario, and three grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at Verona Township Cemetery. The Rev. Jay Barsaleau, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bad Axe, will officiate. Arrangements are being directed through the H.W. Weitenberner Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Everett Murdock Mr. Everett Murdock, 76, of Minden City passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at his residence under hospice care. Everett was born on Aug. 27, 1926, in Detroit to the late Alger and Lela (Reava) Murdock. He married Ada Uhl on Sept. 9, 1963, in Ohio. Everett was a 1944 graduate of Minden City High School. He worked on the Murdock Brothers Farm until he retired in 1989. He was a member of many associations, including the Ford & Fordson Collectors Assoc., Cast Iron Seat Collectors Association, Classic Thunderbird Association, American Welders Association, National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB), and Michigan Milk Producers Association for years. He enjoyed antique tractor conventions and glass top globes for old gas pumps. Everett is survived by his wife, Ada, of Minden City; one daughter, Karen Murdock of Minden City; one son, Larry Murdock of Minden City; and one brother, Wallace Murdock of Ubly. He was preceded in death by one brother, Martin Murdock, in 1924. Funeral services for Everett Murdock will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at the Smigielski Funeral Home in Minden City. The Rev. Robert A. Srock, pastor of Jeddo United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Downing Cemetery of Deckerville. Wednesday, October 9, 2002 Margaret Gacht Margaret Gacht, 86, of Kingston died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, in Caro Community Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Kranz Funeral Home in Kingston with Sr. Ruth Adamites officiating. Interment is at 11 a.m. Friday in Michigan Memorial Cemetery in Flat Rock. Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Thursday, October 10, 2002 – None Friday, October 11, 2002 Stanford Furness Stanford "Scorch" Furness, 87, of Elkton died in his sleep Thursday morning, Oct. 10, 2002, at his home. He was born Sept. 11, 1915, at the home of his parents, the late Edward and Leah (Mousseau) Furness in Harbor Beach. He grew up in the Pinnebog and Chandler Township areas. On Sept. 29, 1939, he was united in marriage to Bernice Morell at the Kinde Presbyterian parsonage and settled in Elkton. Several years later, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in the Philippines and South Pacific during World War II. Scorch was a finish carpenter by trade. He and his brothers built many homes throughout the area including time spent constructing mobile homes in Marlette and prefab housing at Michigan Lumber Fabricating in Elkton. After retiring in 1974, he continued with his woodworking talents by doing smaller carpenter jobs for neighbors and friends. He also built many, many intricate detailed toys and crafts. He relaxed by ice fishing, pheasant and deer hunting. Surviving are his wife, Bernice; three children, Jeanette Furness of Washington, Eileen Stempin and her husband, Gary, of Las Vegas, Nev. and Burton Furness and his wife, Mary, of Elkton; two grandchildren, Chris and Matt; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Ashley. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Roy and Clifford; and a sister, Dorothy Farver. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton. The Rev. DeWeerd Smith will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery in Elkton. Krease, 97, of Port Austin died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born on May 14, 1905, in Port Austin Township, daughter of the late Frank and Jenny (Horetski) Yaroch. She was married to John Knoblock who preceded her in death in 1928. On Oct. 24, 1932, she married Frederick G. Krease at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. He preceded her in death in September 1969. Mrs. Krease was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and was active in its various sodalities. She loved cooking, and was employed as a cook at St. Michael's School for many years. Mrs. Krease was a friend to everyone and loved taking care of others. Gertrude Krease is survived by five children, Jack Knoblock of Bad Axe, Robert Knoblock of Sterling Heights, Marie Romes and her husband, Clarence, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Fred Krease of Port Austin, and Joan Driscoll and her husband, Ed, of Dexter; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; one brother, Louis Yaroch of Bad Axe; three sisters, Viola Baranski and her husband, Tony, Josephine Yaroch and Genevieve Yaroch, all of Port Austin; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Krease; daughter-in- law, Mary Knoblock; sister, Florence O'Connor; three brothers, Paul, Albert and Edwin Yaroch. A funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. The Rev. Robert Pare, pastor, will officiate. Mark Walsh Mr. Mark "Pete" Walsh, 74, of Ubly passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at his home under hospice care on his first son's birthday, surrounded by his children. Pete was born March 29, 1928, in Tyre to the late Walter F. and Susan (McMillan) Walsh. He married Evelyn "Delores" Michalski on June 25, 1949, at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. She preceded him in death on Sept. 9, 1985. He married Geraldine Rutkowski on Nov. 12, 1988, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg. Pete attended Cumber Country School and Ubly High School. He worked at Kellogg's in Battle Creek and at Pontiac Motors and Chrysler in Detroit for about 14 years. He was a lifelong dairy farmer and businessman. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization. He was the former manager of the Cumber Bar Men's Slow Pitch Team and loved to play baseball for 30 years. He bowled for 32 years for different teams in Ubly and Argyle. He was an usher for more than 50 years at St. Ignatius. He enjoyed playing cards, reading, watching sports and spending his winters in Holiday, Fla. Pete is survived by his wife, Geraldine "Gerry" of Clinton Township; his children, Lana Padilla of Las Vegas, Nev., Craig Walsh and special friend, Jennifer Baker, of Cass City, Bryan and his wife, Sue, of Cass City, Kimberly Shemka and her husband, Kenneth, of Bad Axe, Kelly Langenburg and her husband, Hank, of Snover, Kari Walsh of Ubly, Daryl Walsh of Chicago, Ill.; his grandchildren, Barry and Troy Osentoski, Joshua Nichols, Alyson and Heather Baker, Andrea Walsh, Tyler, Courtney and Trevor Shemka, Chase Nichols, Matt Ender, Danika Focken; his step-children who are also his nieces and nephews, Tom and Sandy Walsh of Chesterfield, Rick and Barb Walsh of Washington, Mich., Dennis Walsh of Roseville, Debbie (Walsh) Shelton and John Jr. of East Pointe, Paulette Lempke of Port Huron, Jeff Flannery of Washington, Mich.; step-grandchildren, who are also his great-nieces and nephews, Nicholas and Julie Walsh, Tiffany and Taylor Walsh, Jennifer (Walsh) Mahar and her husband, Mike, William Walsh, Lori Walsh, Stacy Shelton, Johnny and Lori Shelton, Amy, Amanda and Erica Lempke; step-great-grandchild Hailey Shelton; brothers, Michael Walsh and his wife, Donna, of Ubly, Louis Walsh and his wife, Rosalie, of Ubly, Walter "Joe" Walsh and his wife, Patricia, of Ubly, Daniel Walsh of Farmington Hills; one sister, Susan Brown and her husband, Harold, of La Mesa, Calif. Bernard Buchalski Bernard M. Buchalski, 81, of Lake Township died Thursday morning, Oct. 10, 2002, of injuries sustained in an auto accident. Funeral mass will be Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at the Wasik Funeral Home in Warren. Visitation will be Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville.
