Nieschulz, 52, of Sebewaing passed away Saturday morning, Dec. 7, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw from injuries received in an automobile accident near Caro on Thursday morning, Dec. 5, 2002. He was born on May 27, 1950 in Pigeon, son of Emil Walter and Margaret Emma (Volz) Nieschulz. He enjoyed playing football and was a 1968 graduate of Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port High School. He was united in marriage to Linda J. Haag on Oct. 25, 1975 in Pigeon. Wayne had been employed for 18 years at Sebewaing Industries and later Tower Industries in Sebewaing before retiring two years ago due to disability. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. He was an avid woodworker, enjoyed hunting and also his pet birds. Surviving besides his wife, Linda , are two sons, Philip Nieschulz, and his wife, Sarah, of Iron Mountain, Brian Nieschulz and his wife, Roxanne of Sebewaing; one daughter, Gail Wilkinson and her husband, Stuart, of Stanton; one sister, Debra Bitzer and her husband, Kim, of Gagetown; two brothers, Mark Nieschulz and his wife, Joyce, of Bay City, and James Nieschulz and his wife, Kay, of Pigeon; his parents, Emil W. and Margaret Nieschulz of Pigeon, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing with the Rev. Daniel Hahn officiating with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and noon to 9 p.m. on Monday. He will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Hills & Dales Hospital in Cass City. Martha Nivison Martha Jane Nivison, 80, of Harbor Beach passed away on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, in the long-term care unit of Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born in Detroit on March 24, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lottie (Stinson) Korv. She and Dr. David J. Nivison were united in marriage in 1941 in Detroit. He proceeded her in death on Oct. 6, 1986. She enjoyed being with her family, reading, doing crossword puzzles and was thrilled to be hired by Harbor Beach Wire at the age of 75, her first job she ever applied for. She is survived by her children, Louise Moukalian and her husband, Michael, of Grosse Pointe Woods, David Nivison and his wife, Karlene of Tuscon, Ariz., Frances Bellanger of Ferndale, Anne Hicks and her husband, Joseph, of Hamburg, Thomas Nivison of Flint and Charles Nivison and his wife, Rhonda, of Harbor Beach; 13 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; also her new found family of six half sisters and half brothers; and by her beloved cousin, Rollie Sippel. Jane was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Nivison and Daniel Nivison. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9, 2002 at the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach, with Rev. "Bob" "Spot" Thompson, 71, of Ida Township died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at home surrounded by his family. A member of Teamsters Local No. 20, he was a truck driver for Associated Truck Lines for over 30 years, retiring December 31, 1992. The son of David and Anna (Heck) Thompson, he was born Dec. 21, 1930 in Bad Axe. He married Rose Marie Witforth on April 18, 1960. She preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 1993. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He is survived by his loving son, Rodney "Rocky" Thompson and his wife, Deanna, of Temperance; daughters, Mary Meagher of Toledo and Diane Willets of Longview, Texas; brothers, Irvin Thompson, Lawrence Thompson; sisters, Mary Hazzard, Zelma Bauer, Ruth Gilbert, Bessie Champagne; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Connie Sue Thompson on Jan. 17, 1981; a son, Richard Willets; and brothers, Henry and Raymond. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. DeWeerd Smith with interment in Roselawn Memorial Park in La Salle. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Monday, December 09, 2002 Marjorie Kleinschmidt Marjorie V. Kleinschmidt, 101, of Pigeon, formerly of Plymouth, passed away Saturday evening, Dec. 7, 2002, at the Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Pigeon after a long illness. She was born on March 27, 1901 in Northville Township, daughter of the late William Frank and Hattie Louise (Taylor) Taylor. On July 28, 1917, she was united in marriage to Walter G. Kleinschmidt in Northville Township. They made their home in Plymouth for more than 50 years, moving to Freeland in 1968. After the death of her husband in 1971, Mrs. Kleinschmidt moved to Pigeon. She was a member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Berne. Her many interests included gardening, reading, needlework, music, and playing the piano daily, but her special enjoyment came from her family. She is survived by a daughter, Marian Dast and her husband, Richard, of Pigeon; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth and Marvin Kleinschmidt; two daughters-in-law, Naomi and Lois Kleinschmidt; a brother, Claude Taylor; granddaughter, Jaye Hignite. Moses, 79, of Minden City passed away Saturday night, Dec. 7, 2002, at her home. Eleanor was born March 2, 1923 in Hazel Park to the late George H. and Mary B. (Hipp) Deike. She married Myron A. Moses on Feb. 10, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1981. Eleanor was a graduate of Deckerville High School. She was a former member of the Community Clinic Auxiliary and the Minden City Lioness Club. She moved to the Minden City area in her early teen years. Eleanor is survived by her children, Allan A. Moses and his wife, Sheryl, of Perrysburg, Ohio, Beth A. Halifax of Bad Axe, Phillip G. Moses and his wife, Jane, of Minden City, Leslie L. Benson and her husband, Scott, of Cadillac; nine grandchildren, Cooper Benson, Christopher Moses, Michael Moses, Daniel Moses, Deena McIntosh and her husband, Archie, Jason Halifax and his wife, Jennifer, Aaron Moses, Ryan Moses, and Alison Moses; two great-grandchildren, Alex McIntosh and Morgan Halifax; two sisters, Ruth L. Ricky Prill Ricky Joseph Prill, 36, of Sterling Heights and Filion, passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at Saint Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Ricky was born Feb. 18, 1966 in Sterling Heights to Michael and Joan (Hessling) Prill. He is survived by his parents; one brother, Thomas Prill; three sisters, Cheryl Spragg and her husband, Chuck, Julie Lombardo and her husband, Dean, all of Sterling Heights, and Lisa Adams and her husband, Gary, of Filion; four nephews; four nieces; and special friend, Sherri Dombrowski. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alex and Regina Prill of Kinde, and Norman and Bernetta (Messing) Hessling of Harbor Beach. Ottelia Wessels Ottelia "Tillie" Wessels, 89, of Bad Axe went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe following a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born on May 7, 1913 in Dwight Township, daughter of the late Erich and Bertha (Poppeck) Brade. She married George J. Wessels on June 16, 1934 in the Filion Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1992. She worked at the former Locker Plant in Bad Axe for many years and was a former 4-H leader for several years. Mrs. Wessels enjoyed sewing, making quilts, crafts, gardening, and visiting with her friends and family. She is survived by two sons, George Wessels and his wife, Carol, of Harbor Beach, Erich Wessels and his wife, Donna, of Bad Axe; four daughters, Jean Schember of Sandusky, Sharon Elliott of Warren, Wanda Rysberg and her husband, Warren, of Crystal Falls, Kathryn Brinker of Warren; two sisters, Hadie Young of Bad Axe, Lydia Matelski and her husband, Albin, of Kinde; 15 grandchildren; 25 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Ann Miller; one sister, Margaret Schuman; and three brothers, Otto, Arthur, and Harold Brade. Tuesday, December 10, 2002 DeLima Knox DeLima Rose Knox, 90, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at St. Joseph Senior Community in Manhattan. She was born May 21, 1912 in Brimley, daughter of the late John J. and Elise (St. Louis) Skippen. She was united in marriage to Wallace Knox on May 13, 1939 in Marquette. He preceded her in death in 1957. Mrs. Knox worked for Robertsons Laundry and for a bakery prior to being housemother and cook for Farmhouse Fraternity at Michigan State University in East Lansing for 21 years. She had also been the cook for a summer music camp in Interlochen for many years. She had lived with her daughter's family in Brookings, S.D. for four years and then moved to Manhattan, Kansas on Jan. 1, 1981. Mrs. Knox was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Dominican Associate, Altar Society, 3rd Age Group, and her faith was very important to her. She loved to crochet and make cakes for her family's special occasions. Surviving are her son-in-law, Gerry L. Kuhl of Manhattan, Kansas; four granddaughters, Amanda M. Kuhl, Bethany L. Kuhl-Croucher, Amy D. Kuhl-Roberts and Emily A. Kuhl, all of Manhattan, Kansas; two sisters, Madeline Eastman of Marysville, Calif., Marie McKenzie of Muskegon and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Marie Kuhl on July 23, 1999; eight brothers and sisters, Leonard Skippen, Elsie Hammond, Margaret Skippen, Louise Butler, Agnes Skippen, Josephine Skippen, Theresa Peplinski and John Skippen. Rayl, 43, of Gagetown, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Hills & Dales Hospital in Cass City following an 18-month-long illness. He was born Dec. 15, 1959 in Deford, son of Linel and Janet (Field) Rayl. Larry owned and operated Iron Man Roofing Company in Gagetown for several years. He enjoyed deer hunting. He is survived by his fiance, Rose Marie Ward of Gagetown; parents, Linel and Janet Rayl of St. Helen; one son, Everett Rayl of Port Huron; grandmother, Iva Field of Deford; three sisters, Joan McCabe her husband, Robert, of Flint, Wendy Canada of Phenix, Va., Tammy Kain of North Pole, Alaska; Rose Marie's children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews and many friends. The funeral service will take place at noon on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The Rev. Charles Young Charles H.Young, 80, of Elkton died Tuesday morning, December 10, 2002, at his home following a long illness. He was born December 4, 1922 in Naperville, Illinois to the late Edward and Nora (Lump) Young. Charles traveled to the Elkton area at the age of five with his parents. His father was a minister who was transferred to the area. On April 7, 1951, he was united in marriage to Grace S. Ellis at the Gagetown Church of the Nazarene. He was employed at Active at that time and lived in a small house near his parents. In 1956 they moved to the farm where Grace still lives. He continued at Active for 7 more years and farmed at the same time. Charlie retired from farming in 1986. He was a former member of the Elkton Evangelical United Brethren Church. During his retirement years, he could be found fishing on the bay in a boat in the summer and on the ice in the winter. It was easy to tell that he still enjoyed working in the soil by the oversized garden he planted each year. Surviving are his wife, Grace; his children, Linda Wetter of Yale, Sally Sweeney and her husband Brian of Ubly, Leonard Young of Flint, Edward Young, Elaine Long and her husband Don, Robert Young and Ronald Young, all of Bad Axe; 13 grandchildren: Janice, Paula, Roger, Sarah, Eddie, Imagene, Leonard, Jason, Sylinda, Steven, Cari, Robbie and Matthew; two great granddaughters: McKayla and Isabella and his brother, Milton Young and his wife Marge. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Harry Wetter, two brothers, Harold and Don Young and his sister, Ruth Morgan. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 12, 2002, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton. Rev. Prill, 98, died on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. She was born on April 10, 1904 in Canada, on a boat while coming to the United States. Her family came to Huron County where she lived until moving to Caro. Elizabeth loved to bake, cook, and pray the rosary. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin and the Holy Rosary Sodality Society. She is survived by six children, Peter Prill and his wife, Marie, of Mio, Tom Prill and his wife, Floria, of Bad Axe, Martin Prill and his wife, Tracy, of Port Austin, Alice Stec and her husband, Pete, of Caro, Pauline Gosdzinski and her husband, Virgil, of Caro, Kathleen Silva of Columbia, Tenn.; 24 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three children, Mary Agnes, baby Elizabeth, Paul Prill; six brothers; three sisters; and five grandchildren. Mass of resurrection was Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin with burial in the church cemetery. Father Mietek officiated. Thursday, December 12, 2002 Kathryn Brining Kathryn Anne Brining, 23, of Bad Axe, passed away from complications of Muscular Dystrophy Tuesday evening, Dec. 10, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. She was born May 16, 1979 in Bad Axe to Douglas and Janis (Simmons) Brining. Kathryn touched people's lives in a special way. She spoke with her eyes to the people who knew her. She attended Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a student at Bad Axe Junior High School and the Transition House of Huron Intermediate School District. Kathryn enjoyed her stuffed animals, watching birds, and spending time with her family and friends. Kathryn is survived by her parents, Douglas and Janis Brining; one sister, Jennifer Hamilton and her husband, Dan, of Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers, Mark Brining of Madison Heights and Drew Brining of Bad Axe; grandparents, Bill and Evelyn Stone of Caro, Ruth Simmons of Caro, Harold and Peggy Simmons of Caro; two nieces, Grace Kathryn Hamilton and Olivia Ruth Hamilton of Cincinnati, Ohio; special caregiver and friend, Doreen Zdrojewski; aunts and uncles, Denise and Bob Clarke of Eaton Rapids, Nancy and Jim Lukey of Okemos, and Robert Brining of Clio; cousins, Theresa, John and his wife, Lillian, Geoffrey and his wife, Laura, Leigh, Joseph and Alex Clarke, Ben and his wife, Natalia, and Jolene Lukey. Doe, 93, of Chicago and formerly of Ruth, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, in Palatine, Ill. Bernadette was born on Aug. 28, 1909 in Ruth to the late August A. and Meta J. (Noechel) Hunsanger. She married Oliver P. Doe Sr. on Sept. 30, 1939 in Detroit. Bernadette is survived by her husband, Oliver P. Doe of Chicago; three sons, Oliver P. Doe Jr. and his wife, Judith, of Maine, Frederick P. Doe of Nevada, and Charles A. Doe and his wife, Elaine, of Chicago; one daughter, Bernadette M. Doerr and her husband, Thomas, of Sleepy Hollow, Ill.; eight grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; three sisters, Theresa Doherty and her husband, Earl, of Royal Oak, Mary Jane Maloney of St. Clair Shores, Martha Immerman of Ruth; three brothers, John Hunsanger of West Bloomfield, Ben Hunsanger and his wife, Deloris, of Ruth, Carl Hunsanger of Ruth. Cremation has taken place. Frances Roberts Frances I. Roberts, 91, of Harbor Beach passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at her home under hospice care with her family at her side. Born in Mt. Pleasant on Jan. 8, 1911, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Diehl) McDonald. Fran was a graduate of Central Michigan University in 1932 with a bachelor of science degree. On June 5, 1937, Fran was united in marriage to Harry Roberts in Remus. He preceded her in death on July 14, 1995. She was an elementary school teacher for 24 years beginning in Remus and then 18 years of teaching in Harbor Beach. She retired from the Harbor Beach Community Schools in 1971. Fran was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. She was a member of the altar society, and a former member of the Harbor Beach Dance Club. Fran enjoyed music very much. She was the organist at the church and she played piano. Fran taught music at OLLH after her retirement. Surviving are her children, James Roberts, Katherine Hanson and her husband, Harold, Richard Roberts and his wife Diane, and Mary Capling and her husband, Dennis, all of Harbor Beach; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ann Thering of Mt. Pleasant and Evelyn Spoehr of Flat Rock. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Frederick McDonald; four sisters, Elizabeth McDonald, Cecilia Bingham, Marquerite Hayner and Mildred Munro. Terry Howard Terry Lee Howard Sr., 54, of Owendale passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at his home. Tomlinson, 89, of Caseville and formerly of Redford Township passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at the Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Pigeon. Mr. Tomlinson was cremated. Friday, December 13, 2002 Lillian Pawlowski Lillian A. Pawlowski, 79, of Sherman Township passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at the home of her daughters with hospice care. Born in Parisville on April 10, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Anna (Moy) Susalla. Lillian and Philip Pawlowski were united in marriage on Sept. 27, 1941 in Harbor Beach. He preceded her in death on June 2, 1983. She is survived by daughter, Lillian Sheasby and her husband, Wayne, of Harbor Beach; son, Marvin Pawlowski of Harbor Beach; three grandchildren, Kim Stein and her husband, Steve, Cliff Pawlowski and his wife, Chris, and Corey Pawlowski; four great-grandchildren, Alexander, Zachary, Natasha and Ashley; three brothers, Norman Susalla of Harbor Beach, Wilfred Susalla of Harbor Beach, Irvin Susalla of Florida; five sisters, Alice Kosal of Warren, Marie Dean of Port Huron, Beatrice Kranz of Saint Clair Shores, Joanne Fisher of Bad Axe, Sylvia Lindsey of Port Huron; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, Robert in 1966 and James in 1957; and a brother, Joseph Susalla. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, in Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach with the Rev. Gerald Kukla, pastor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A parish vigil service will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday in the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the church. Donald Teeple Sr. Donald A. Teeple Sr., 79, of Minden City, passed from this world on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Donald was born on June 26, 1923 in Charleston, MI to the late Bert W. and Ella (Jacobs) Teeple. He attended Deckerville High School and graduated at 15 in 1939. In 1941, he joined the naval forces on the USS Wasp in the Pacific. He later accepted an appointment to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis. Following World War II, Donald attended Michigan State University, the University of Notre Dame, and the University of Michigan, earning three separate master's degrees and an educational specialist degree. His career in education began at Sandusky as a teacher during 1951 to 1952. From 1952 to 1954 he served as principal of Carsonville High School. He became Superintendent of Schools in the Ubly District, following several years there as a teacher, guidance counselor, and High School principal. He culminated his career in education as a school psychologist for Tuscola Intermediate School District before retiring in 1987. During his retirement, Donald enjoyed traveling, playing golf, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. After his family, his greatest love was sports of all types. He participated when he could, and observed when he became less physically able. Prior to beginning his career in education, he was a professional baseball umpire in the minor leagues. Donald is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marion (Schock) of Minden City; five children, Donald A. Teeple Jr. of Sandusky, Catherine Freeman and her husband, William, of Birmingham, Patricia Kramer and her husband, Clair, of Harbor Beach, Thomas N. Teeple and his wife, Laura, of North Carolina, Mary Kramer and her husband, Paul, of Harbor Beach; two sisters, Ruth Foster and her husband, Sydney, of Minden, Nev., Marion Greene and her husband, William, of Elk Rapids; several grandchildren, Donald A. Teeple III, Anthony J. Teeple, Courtney Freeman, Carter Freeman, Katy Kramer, Keegan Kramer, and Kinsey Kramer; one sister-in-law, Eleanor Teeple of Minden City; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother, Harry Teeple, who died in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. Funeral mass for Donald Teeple Sr. will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. The Rev. Steve Gavit, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with graveside military honors by the Ruth VFW Post No. 5740. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. There will be a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. on Sunday evening with the Rev. Steve Gavit at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church or to the Donald Teeple Scholarship Fund at the Ubly Community Schools. Helen Zulauf Helen Marie Zulauf, 77, of Fairfield Glade, Tenn., passed away Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Wharton Nursing Home, Pleasant Hill, Tenn. She was born Nov. 17, 1925 in Bad Axe, daughter of William and Mary Ebach Schumacher. She married Elden Zulauf on June 15, 1946 in Detroit. She attended Minden City High School and graduated from Grosse Pointe High School. Mrs. Zulauf was a stock broker for 1st Heritage Corp. and was of the Catholic faith. She is survived by her husband, Elden Zulauf of Fairfield Glade, Tenn.; two sons, Roger Zulauf and his wife, Sandra, of Rochester, Paul Zulauf and his wife, Pamela, of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; one daughter, Karen Smith and her husband, Will, of Boulder, Colo.; three grandchildren. Funeral services for Helen were to be conducted at 10 a.m. today, Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fairfield Glade, Tenn., with the Rev. Gregory Neuzi officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John Cemetery in Ubly. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Edward Ginther Edward G. Ginther, 79, of Harbor Beach, passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, in Tendercare of Cass City in Cass City, Michigan following a long illness. Funeral mass will be at noon on Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville. Arrangements are being handled by the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach where the family will receive friends from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, December 15, 2002. The funeral service will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church at noon on Monday, December 16, 2002, with interment in the church cemetery in Ruth, Michigan.
