Sunday, November 10, 2002 Agnes Lavender Agnes Ella Lavender, 101, of Clay Township died Nov. 7, 2002, in her home. She was born on Jan. 15, 1901, in Kinde. Agnes is survived by her daughter, Jean Drake; stepson, Gerald Lavender and his wife, Gloria; grandchildren, Martin Drake, Denna Reynolds and her husband, Mike, Darryl Drake and his wife, Theresa, Sarah Drake, David Chesney and his wife, Holly; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Lavender; and a son, Keith Chesney. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at Gilbert Funeral Home, 1422 Michigan St., in Algonac with Pastor Robert Wagner of St. Peters Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Johns Hospice. Gary Messner Gary L. Messner, 56, of Harbor Beach passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002 at his home with hospice care following a short illness. Born in Detroit on March 29, 1946, he was the son of Alvin G. Messner and Charlotte H. (Tamagne) Messner. He and Carol Baker were united in marriage on May 24, 1974 in Fraser. Gary was a retired employee of the Decks & Docks in Keego Harbor and enjoyed being with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed fishing with his buddies, playing cards, and doing woodworking projects. Gary is survived by his wife, Carol, of Harbor Beach; his father, Alvin Messner, of Rochester Hills; his children Kristen Ann Adamie and her husband, Patrick, of Redford Township, and Kevin Messner and his wife, Brooke, of Shelby Township; four grandchildren, Miah, Kade, Olivia, and Brandt. He also is survived by a sister, Karen Ebinger, of Commerce Township. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002 in the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach. Fr. Jerry Kukla of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Rock Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. Andrew Musselman Andrew Joseph Musselman, 74, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. He was born on Oct. 7, 1928, in Lake Township, son of Norman and Violet (Stirrett) Musselman. Andrew loved to play euchre and belonged to several euchre clubs. He is survived by his children, Larry Musselman and his wife, Lynn, of Florida, Dianna Manning of Massachusetts, Joseph Musselman and his wife, Regina, and Edward Musselman, all of Flint, Cynthia DeVis of Florida, and Rodney Musselman of Michigan; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Marie Sageman and Donna Hanson of Bad Axe, and Barbara Cieslinski of Florida, and his ex-wife, Eleanor Turnbow of Flint. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Norman and Stanley. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002 at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. Burial will be in the Caseville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Monday, November 11, 2002 Donald Dorland Donald B. Dorland, 93, of Port Hope passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, in the long term care unit of Harbor Beach Community Hospital following a long illness. He was born on Feb. 1, 1909, the son of the late Alonso and Sarah (Fike) Dorland, in Brown City. Don was a barber for 45 years working in Cass City, Taylor and retiring from Rochester. After moving to Port Hope, he was the janitor for the State Bank of Port Hope for 13 years. He was a member of the Port Hope Retirees Club and was the organizer and secretary of the Seniors Bowling League. Don also enjoyed golf, bowling and walking. Don is survived by his wife, Shirley Dorland, of Port Hope; a son-in-law, John Wesley, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; and a sister-in-law, Helen Lenker, of Ferndale. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ottis; and two sisters, Cora Brown and Ola Lee. A private graveside service will be in the Marquardt Cemetery in Port Hope with the Rev. Gregory Eilers officiating. Memorials may be given to the Harbor Beach Hospital Long Term Care or to the Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester. Lyle Truemner Lyle Noah Truemner, 69, of Cass City died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, in Hills and Dales General Hospital, Cass City after a long illness of cancer. He was born Aug. 9, 1933, in Kilmanagh to Ezra and Ethel (Geiger) Truemner. He married Eleanor Good on Sept. 4, 1954, in Owendale. Lyle was a lifetime resident of Cass City, where he farmed and worked for the Walbro Corp. until his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed antique tractors, golf cart repair, auto racing, and tractor pulling. He was a charter member of the Thumb Two Cylinder Club and an active member of Cass City United Methodist Church. He was also very active with the Thumb Area Octagon Barn Association. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1049 of Caro and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #4484 of Caro. Lyle is survived by his wife, Eleanor; children, Dana Truemner and his girlfriend, Sharon Swalwell and her son, Josh, of Cass City, Colleen Albosta and her husband, Kevin, of Saginaw, Michael Truemner and his wife, Rhonda, of Owosso, Okla., Janel Guilds and her husband, Kenneth, of Gagetown; grandchildren, Gary and his wife, Susan, Laura Jane and Keith Truemner, Michael and Jonathan Albosta, Alexandria and Brandon Truemner, Kendra Guilds; great-grandchildren, Morgan Parrish and Victoria Truemner. He was preceded in death by his son, Wendall Scott. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at Cass City United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Ward of Cass City United Methodist Church officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 today and from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City. Memorials may be made to Cass City United Methodist Church building fund. Tuesday, November 12, 2002 Valerie Smith Valerie S. Smith, 36, of Northville, died Nov. 8, 2002. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on June 15, 1965, the daughter of Mark and Brunelda Thompson of Kalamazoo. Valerie was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and graduated from Kalamazoo College in 1987. She did research for her senior individualized project at Duke University Primate Center in Durham, N.C., studying lemur behavior. She attended the First United Methodist Church of Northville, and worked as a senior systems analyst for Kitchen Suppliers, Inc. of Brighton. She is survived by her husband, Todd Smith of Northville; her four year old son, Jordan; sister, Shannon Baker of Kalamazoo; brother, Gregory Thompson of Salem, Ind.; parents-in-law, Sidney and Kay Smith of Pigeon; brothers-in- law, Dean Smith and his wife, Nancy, Scott Smith and his wife, Nancy, Jeff Smith and his wife, Sandy, Bob West and his wife, Mary Kay. The funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church, 777 West Eight Mile Road in Northville. Wednesday, November 13, 2002 Katherine Hanke Katherine Hanke, 90, of Rochester Hills and formerly of Sebewaing, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at the Meadowbrook Nursing Center in Rochester Hills following a one-year illness. She was born May 25, 1912, in Sebewaing, daughter of the late Philip and Katherine Bachman. She was united in marriage to Gottlieb Hanke on Dec. 8, 1933, in Detroit. He preceded her in death on May 12, 1988. Katherine was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. She enjoyed sewing and gardening. Surviving are one daughter, Nancy Kett and her husband, Lloyd, of Ocala, Fla.; one son, Leonard R. Hanke and his wife, Mary Anne, of Rochester Hills; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Emma Stark and Sally Schulz both of Sebewaing; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Hickey; two brothers, John and Philip Bachman. The funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The Rev. Daniel Hahn will officiate with burial in the Silverlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home in Sebewaing. Charles Lamb Charles E. Lamb, 89, of Harbor Beach passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at the Harbor Beach Community Hospital following a long illness. Born in Harbor Beach on Sept. 14, 1913, he was the son of the late Albert and Edith (Wenger) Lamb. On July 2, 1949, he and Betty Brown were united in marriage in Harbor Beach. Together they farmed in Sand Beach Township until his retirement. Chuck was also a substitute rural mail carrier for 40 years with the Harbor Beach Post Office. He was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. Charles is survived by his wife, Betty Lamb, of Harbor Beach; children, Dennis Lamb and his wife, Carol, of Harbor Beach, Donna Barclay and her husband, James, of Harbor Beach; four grandchildren, Mike, Amanda, Jerad and Lisa; one great-grandson, Dakota. A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, in Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach with Fr. Gerald Kukla, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A parish vigil service will be at 8 p.m. tonight in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the church. Thursday, November 14, 2002 Gertrude Adams Gertrude L. Adams, 91, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 12, 2002, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe following a lengthy illness. She was born June 4, 1911, in Bad Axe, daughter of the late Charles and Emma (Hux) Ward. She was united in marriage to John B. Adams Sr. on July 18, 1931, in Ohio. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1954. Gertrude was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sebewaing. Surviving are four sons, John B. "Jack" Adams and his wife, Carolyn, of Shingleton, Jerry Adams and his wife, Kathy, of Pigeon, Kenneth Adams and his wife, Bernette, of St. Charles, Donald Adams and his wife, Sally, of Sebewaing; one daughter, Dee Adams of Sebewaing; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers; two sisters; and one granddaughter. As per her wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will take place at a later date at the Sebewaing Assembly of God Cemetery. The Rev. Ray McGee, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sebewaing will officiate. Arrangements are being handled by the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. Friday, November 15, 2002 Kevin Vandamme Kevin A. Vandamme, 43, of Harbor Beach passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at his home. Born in Detroit on Nov. 26, 1958, he is the son of Arthur and Audrey (Biebuyck) Vandamme. On April 11, 1977, Kevin and Rita Johns were united in marriage in Alabama. Kevin was a retired employee of General Dynamics in Warren and enjoyed hunting and collecting guns. He is survived by his wife, Rita Vandamme, of Harbor Beach; his parents, Arthur and Audrey Vandamme; children, Eric Vandamme stationed in Virginia in the US Navy, Vicki Gohsman of Cass City; one grandchild; one brother, Kory Vandamme of Florida; one sister, Karen Young of Sterling Heights. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach with the Rev. Mark Girardin of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Cremation has taken place in Sunset Valley Crematory, Bay City. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home. Lorene Ballagh Lorene Ballagh, 88, of Pigeon died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. Ernest Prill Ernest Prill, 71, resident of Madison Heights and former Huron County resident, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002.
