Sunday, October 20, 2002 Lester Eustace Lester Edward Eustace, 86, of Kinde died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. He was born March 21, 1916, to the late Lester and Grace (Lukens) Eustace in Bisbee, Ariz. Lester was married to Molly Lee (Niasmith). She preceded him in death in 1977. He married Mary Moore in 1978. She preceded him in death in 2001. Lester was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Kinde. He also maintained membership in the Port Austin U&I Club, Kinde Senior Citizens, and the Knights of Columbus. He retired from Western Union where he had been employed for many years. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine from 1944 to 1945. He enjoyed playing cards, dancing, and visiting with family. Lester is survived by five stepsons, Edward J. Moore and his wife, Ruth Ann, of Bad Axe, Robert D. Moore and his wife, Mary, of Burton, John T. Moore and his wife, Margaret, of Kinde, Jim Moore and his wife, Ginger, of Kinde, Gerald Moore and his wife, Kathy, of Royal Oak; brothers-in- law and sisters-in-law, John and Betty Mroczek of Kinde, Ed and Marie Mroczek of Kinde; 24 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Kinde. Fr. John Weis will officiate. Burial will be in Colfax Township Cemetery in Bad Axe. There will be a scripture service at 7 p.m. today at the MacAlpine Funeral Home - Gage Chapel in Kinde. There will be a Rosary at 8 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus today at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be offered to St. Edward's Catholic Church or Huron Memorial Hospice. Monday, October 21, 2002 Linda Bach Linda L. Bach, 86, of Sebewaing died Sunday morning, Oct. 20, 2002, at Tendercare of Cass City following a lengthy illness. She was born June 2, 1916, in Sebewaing, daughter of the late Oscar and Lorena (Mueller) Armbruster. She was united in marriage to Albert C. Bach on June 7, 1941, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1996. Linda was employed at the former Denner Brothers Pharmacy and later for Dast Pharmacy in Sebewaing for several years. She was a life member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, a member of the Happy Home Farm Bureau group and enjoyed sewing, bowling and card playing. She is survived by one son, Dan Bach of Sebewaing; five daughters, Sharon Kayden of Auburn, Judy Halstead and her husband, Jim, of Sebewaing, Chris O'Brien and her husband, Tom, of Brighton, Donna Thede and her husband, Mike, of Bay Port, Mary Pelham and her husband, Jim, of Blissfield; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marion Brown of Owosso; three sisters-in-law, Edna Armbruster of Caro, Marion Bohn of Sebewaing, Ruth Roller of Fremont, Ohio; one brother-in-law, Ted Bach and his wife, Elizabeth, of Sebewaing; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Weissman; two brothers, Carl and Loren Armbruster; one sister-in-law, Alice Armbruster; and one son-in-law, Gary Kayden. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel Hahn will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Parks, 92, of Port Austin, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Hills and Dales General Hospital in Cass City. She was born on Sept. 13, 1910, daughter of the late John and Martha (Leavine) Horetski in Dwight Township. She married John Parks in November 1930 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. He preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 1951. Frances enjoyed gardening, playing cards, bingo, and cooking. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. She is survived by one son, John Parks and his wife, Ann, of Port Austin; two daughters, Gertie Talaski and Jo Goretski, both of Port Austin; five grandchildren, Luann Parks, Dean Parks, John Talaski, Jacki Schmidt, and Julie Taylor; and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Agnes Bugenski and Gertrude Horetski. She was preceded in death by one son, George Parks; one daughter, Florence Parks; one grandson, Charles B. Parks; and one granddaughter, Melinda Parks. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. Officiating will be The Rev. Tuesday, October 22, 2002 Alison Emmert Alison Lauren Emmert, 16, of Cass City left her earthly home at 6779 Houghton St. in Cass City and was welcomed into her heavenly home on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002. She was given to her parents by the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 15, 1985, at Sinai Hospital in Detroit. Alison was a special gift from God. Her trademark was her smile. She was friendly to everyone and shared her faith in God and Christ with many. Her courage in the journey with rhabdomyosarcoma cancer this past year showed how much faith and love for God she had. With her humble influence, she no doubt heard those wonderful words, "Well done, good and faithful servant," as she met her Master and Lord, Jesus Christ Sunday evening. She and her family are extremely grateful to their loving family, community and church for all their support and encouragement. Prior to Alison's illness, she was active in the Cass City sports programs of basketball and softball. She was a member of the Student Council and within the last week was inducted into the Cass City Chapter of the National Honor Society in a special ceremony conducted at her home. Alison was a member of Novesta Church of Christ, was active in her youth group, and also attended the Youth For Christ programs in Cass City. Alison had a passion for children and went on a short mission trip to Haiti and helped with the children on a mountain near Seguin. Alison is survived by her parents, Charles and Amy, and her brother, Craig, who had their lives filled with 16 years of loving memories. She is survived by 12 aunts, nine uncles, many cousins, and her grandmother, Dorothy Emmert, of Bangor. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Nick and Hazel Plementosh and John Emmert. Alison's funeral service celebration will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at the Novesta Church of Christ, 2896 N. Cemetery Rd. in Cass City. Plans are being made to accommodate extra attendees. The services will be conducted by Dr. Keith Keeran, President of Kentucky Christian College in Grayson, Ky.; Mark McGilvery of Memorial Church of Christ in Livonia; Bill Meaige of Zanesville, Ohio; and Brad Speirs Youth Minister at Novesta Church of Christ, Cass City. Interment and committal will be at the Novesta Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, and from 2 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Wilfred Kroetsch Mr. Wilfred Kroetsch, 81, of Minden City passed away Saturday evening, Oct. 19, 2002, at St. Mary Medical Center of Saginaw. Wilfred was born on June 20, 1921, in Snover to the late Charles and Hilda (Hergott) Kroetsch. He married Virginia Schumacher (Heilig) on Jan. 17, 1953, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. Wilfred managed the Minden City Little League Baseball Team for years. He was a pitcher in the 1950s for the Minden City Team in the Sanilac County Baseball League. He owned and operated the Silver Star Gardens from 1950 to 1957. He worked for twelve years at the Minden City Lumberyard. He then went into the construction business, which he retired from in 1990. He built and owned the local car wash for 31 years. He was a lifetime member of many organizations, including the Minden City Lions Club and Fire Department and the Ruth Knights of Columbus, where he was a former Grand Knight. He served on the Minden City School Board and Village Council. He was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth where he served on the cemetery committee. He bowled for many years with the Farmers Elevator League of Minden City. He sponsored a ladies bowling team from the Minden City Car Wash for many years. Wilfred is survived by his wife, Virginia, of Minden City; three sons, Thomas Heilig and his wife, Martha, of Georgetown, Texas, Roger Kroetsch and his fiancee, Carol Hutchinson, of Cass City, Terry Kroetsch and his wife, Sue, of Ubly; three daughters, Wendy Maier and her husband, Albert, of Palms, Jo'Ann Zdrojewski and her husband, Phillip, of Palms, Barbara Partaka and her husband, Joseph, of Minden City; one daughter-in-law, Janice (Heilig) Kaufman and her husband, Bob, of Minden City; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, four brothers, his twin, Willard Kroetsch and his wife, Shirley, of Snover, Leon Kroetsch of Flint, Jerome Kroetsch of Ghana, Africa, and Gerald Kroetsch and his wife, Suzanne, of Snover; one sister, Katheleen Rich and her husband, Vernon, of Sandusky; two sisters-in-law, Eileen Pelot of Minden City, Mary Ann Schumacher of Kinde. Richmond, 83, of Pigeon died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in Lansing following a one-month illness. She was born on Dec. 23, 1918, in Bay City, daughter of the late Isaac and Isabel (Bueriger) Hammond. She was united in marriage to Willard G. Richmond on Dec. 21, 1940, in Bay City. He preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1992. Elaine had been a registered nurse at the Scheurer Hospital for 30 years before retiring in 1975. She enjoyed making afghans and cross-stitching quilts. Surviving are two sons, Glen Richmond and his wife, Carol, of Bay Port, Larry Richmond and his wife, Barbara, of Traverse City; one daughter, Dr. Carol Rapon and her husband, Tom, of Dewitt; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Dr. Roger Gordon Richmond; one granddaughter, Rochelle Richmond; one sister, Wilma Kruekoff; and one brother, Norman Hammond. Margaret Russell Margaret "Betty" Elizabeth Russell, 80, of Fairgrove, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, in her home. She was born Oct. 29, 1921, in Pensacola, Fla. to Carl Hendrick Case and Margaret "Madge" (Stewart) Model. She married Leo Howard Russell on April 29, 1972, in Fairgrove. Margaret worked at Kingston High School and two years at the Saginaw School of Applied Art. She was a bookkeeper for Haverly Turkzbury Agency in Kingston before she went to her final job at the Caro State Hospital as a cook and housekeeper. She retired after 15 years. She was a member of the Pilgrims Holiness Church of Kingston before moving. She attended the Caro Baptist Church. Betty enjoyed her many great nieces and nephews. Margaret is survived by her husband, Leo; daughter, Rebecca Lashbrook Tallman and her husband, William, of Alvin, Texas; stepchildren, Cheryl Hubbs and her husband Daniel, Jim Russell, Jeffery Russell and his wife, Ann, of Flint; grandchildren, Lorena Oertli and her husband, Kal, Lee Tallman, Yvonne Tallman; great grandchildren, Kristopher, Natasha, Kevin Lee, Daniel, Tyler; several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren. Donald Woods Frances Woods Donovon Woods Donald Woods, 60, Frances, 60, and their grandson, Donovon, 11, of Davisburg died tragically in an auto accident on Oct. 19, 2002. Stout, 42, of Kinde, passed away on Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at the Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe following an extended illness. She was born on May 29, 1960, in Saginaw, daughter of Lawrence and Sharon (Falkenhagen) Shafley. She married Lawrence Stout on May 28, 1982, in Brownstown. She worked for the Harbor Beach and Bad Axe Senior Citizen Meal Sites. Thursday, October 24, 2002 Vera Erb Vera Erb, 74, of Midland passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at King's Daughters Home in Midland after a lengthy illness. Vera was born on June 24, 1928, in Bad Axe, daughter of Fred and Annie (Damrow) Empkie and was raised on the family farm in Port Austin. She graduated from Kinde High School and Northeastern School of Commerce in Bay City. On May 6, 1950, Vera Empkie and Cecil Rodda Erb were married in Bay City, and shortly thereafter moved to Midland. Vera was a gentle and nurturing woman who devoted her life to her family. She was a gifted seamstress, avid bridge player and talented baker. She also loved to crochet, needlepoint and do embroidery. Vera was an active participant in the Midland community, volunteering among other places at Memorial Presbyterian Church and MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland. In her later years her greatest delight was time shared with her four grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Cecil; daughters, Nancy Goodhew and her husband, James, and Karen Sperry and her husband, Scott, both of Granger, Ind.; son, Donald Erb and his wife, Maureen, of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; three granddaughters, Katherine Goodhew, Paige Goodhew and Heather Sperry and one grandson, Bradley Sperry, all of Granger, Ind.; brother, Fred Empkie and his wife, Ann, of Port Austin; foster brother, Walter Julka and his wife, Vi, of Port Richey, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and many friends. Steve Ulfig Mr. Steve Ulfig, 82, of Bad Axe, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at Bay Regional Medical Center of Bay City. Steve was born on Sept. 2, 1920, in Parisville to the late Michael and Josephine (Puvalowski) Ulfig. He married Helen Alent on Oct. 13, 1951, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. Steve graduated from a country school. He was a veteran of World War II. He worked for Active for 32 years before he retired in 1985. He lived in Parisville most of his life before moving to Bad Axe in 1995. He was a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville where he was an usher and a member of the St. Mary Men's Club. He was a member of the Parisville VFW Post No. 5740 of Ruth. He was a member of the Ruth Knights of Columbus Council No. 3823. He was a current parishioner of Sacred Heart in Bad Axe. He was a member of the Bad Axe Senior Citizen's Club. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards and visiting with his grandchildren. Gail Parrott Gail Linwood Parrott, 82, of Cass City died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, in Hills and Dales General Hospital in Cass City. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Kranz Funeral Home with Pastor Ronald Wigand of Caro First Baptist Church officiating. Memorials may be made to the Northwood Meadows or Caro First Baptist Church. Gabriel Spencer Gabriel David Spencer, died in his bed Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002. Memorials may be made to Family Discretionary Fund. Friday, October 25, 2002 Arlene Boivin Arlene M. Boivin of Ruth and formerly of Buffalo, N.Y., found peace with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002. She began her final journey at home, with family by her side. Arlene enjoyed arts and crafts, bingo, bowling, ceramics, and her Internet friends too numerous to mention. She also enjoyed her grandchildren, movies, music, and grew to love the peacefulness of country living in the thumb area, as she was born and raised a "city girl". She is survived by sister, Theresa Janis and her husband, Eugene, of Cheektowaga, N.Y.; brother, Alphonse Lusiak Jr. of Buffalo, N.Y.; daughters, Cynthia Stellrecht and her husband, Kent, of Getzville, N.Y., Renee Messing and her husband, Philip, of Ruth; son, Brian Boivin of Buffalo, N.Y.; daughter, Denise Walczyk and her husband, Thomas, of Friendsville Tenn.; grandchildren, Shelby and Michael Stellrecht, Lindsy, Chelsea, Alex, Breanne, and Hayley Messing, Sean Boivin, and Eric, Jason, and Regan Walczyk; and other loved family members and her beloved dog, Teddy. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Boivin; her parents, Alphonse and Josephine Lusiak; twin infant sons and sister-in-law Charlotte Lusiak. Arlene was laid to rest at St. Adalberts Cemetery in Lancaster, N.Y. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002. Memorials may be made to Huron Memorial Hospice in Bad Axe. Claribel Bouverette Claribel Bouverette, 62, of Ubly passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at St. Mary Medical Center in Saginaw. Claribel was born on April 3, 1940, in Grover Hill, Ohio to the late William and Alice (Cotterman) Potts. She married Olen Bouverette on April 25, 1981, at St. John Catholic Church of Ubly. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1995. Claribel graduated from Pioneer High School in 1957 in Pioneer, Ohio. She lived in Camden until she moved to Ubly in 1965 with her husband. She worked at Wagner Industries in Reading for five years. She worked for Active Industries for more than 35 years before retiring in 2000. She was a parishioner at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly where she was an organist for more than 20 years. Her hobby was playing the organ and piano. She enjoyed music and traveling with Olen. Claribel is survived by a sister, Dorothy Armstrong; brother, John Potts and his wife, Donelda, both of Pittsford; and many nieces and nephews. Claribel was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Bukoski; one brother, William Joseph Potts; two sisters, Ruth March and Mary Ann Alley. "Mickey" Philippart, 75, of Redford died on Oct. 24, 2002, at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was born on Aug. 20, 1927, in Detroit. Howard was an Attorney at Law. He retired from the Wayne County Prosecutors Office in 1994. He was previously employed as the Redford Township Magistrate and Garden City Magistrate. He graduated from the University of Detroit Law School in 1952. Howard was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Cardinal Mooney Chapter, Michigan Bar Association, Veterans Affairs, Downriver Irish American Club, American Legion, "Choir Boys," Wayne County Detectives Association, Ancient Order of Hibernians. He served in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty; beloved father of Michelle Stirrett and her husband, Keith, Mary Beth Shimshock, Howard "Mike," and his wife, Maribeth, Timothy, Matthew and his wife, Paula, Lisa Simonds, and Rosemary Whalen and her husband, Gerald. 23 grandchildren; sisters, Janet, Nancy and Kay. Wojtalewicz, 94, of Ubly passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. Catherine was born on Jan. 20, 1908, in Parisville to the late Frank B. and Laura (Peruski) Grifka. She married Frank Wojtalewicz on Feb. 25, 1933, in Detroit. He preceded her in death on July 13, 1975. Catherine attended a country school. She worked for Burrough's Corporation in Detroit for a few years. She moved back to Parisville in 1945 to farm with her husband. She was a parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville and a member of the St. Mary Rosary Sodality. She was a member of the Ubly Senior Citizen's Club. Catherine is survived by two sons, Gerald Wojtalewicz and his wife, Loretta, of Shelby Township, Dennis Wojtalewicz and his wife, Theresa, of Ortonville; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three sisters, Rita Oberski of Ubly, Irene Maurer and her husband, James, of Warren, Bernice Gryczka and her husband, Jack, of Des Plaines, Ill.; three brothers, Raymond Grifka and his wife, Ruth, of Warren, Norbert Grifka and his wife, Charlotte, of Troy, Eugene Grifka and his wife, Billie, of Baton Rouge, La.; two sisters-in-law, Susie Grifka of Ubly, Agnes White of Sterling Heights; one brother-in-law, Ambrose Chinoski and his wife, Marge, of Ubly. Catherine was preceded in death by three brothers, Herb, Art, and Richard Grifka; three sisters, Josephine Chinoski, Minnie and Clara Trepkowski. Melvin Albrecht Melvin Albrecht, 71, of Bay Port passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.
