Local obituaries for the week beginning January 27, 2002 Sunday, January 27, 2002 Glenn Hall Glenn Hall, 65, of Lapeer died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at Lapeer Regional Hospital. Glenn was born in Bad Axe on Sept. 28, 1936, son of Vera and Egbert Hall and was raised on the family farm near Filion. He graduated from Kinde High School in 1955 and served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He was married to Doris Bradley on Feb. 1, 1958. He retired after 27 years of service with the Lapeer County Road Commission. Glenn was the loving father of and is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Redden of Lake Orion, Colleen Flowers of North Carolina; three sons, Terrence Hall of California, Michael Hall of Davison, Richard Hall of Missouri; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandson; two brothers, Dale Hall of Port Hope and Donald Hall of Dryden; six sisters, Ardith Wooster of Port Hope, Helen Woodthorp of Flushing, Edith Miner of Midland, Melva Benson of California, Mildred Van Rehen of Holland, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Glenn in death was his wife, Doris, on Dec. 10, 2000; his son, Jim Hall, in 1985; his father, Egbert Hall, in 1979; and his sister, Wilma Blackmore, in 1998. Funeral services took place on Friday, Jan. 24, 2002, at Baird-Newton Funeral Home in Lapeer. Glenn's nephew, the Rev. Charles Steiner, officiated. Burial was at Dawn Memorial Cemetery near Lapeer. Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation. Marleen Klee Marleen (Clancy) Klee, 39, of Harbor Beach passed away at home following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on July 27, 1962, in Bad Axe, the daughter of the late Cecil and Margaret Clancy of Port Austin. She was raised in Port Austin and graduated from North Huron High School in 1980. She was employed by the Franklin Inn of Bad Axe. Marleen loved spending time with her children, family and friends. She enjoyed bird watching, bowling, playing cards and her two cats, Dexter and Chloe. She is survived by two daughters, Charlene Brettin and her husband, Richard, of Port Huron and Ronda Klee at home; five brothers, Michael Clancy and his wife, Ruth Ann, of Warren, Dennis Clancy of Armada, Pat Clancy and his wife, Marge, of Armada, Tim Clancy and his wife, Marlene, of Bay City and Brian Clancy of Kinde; three sisters, Coleen Salemi and her husband, Jerry, of Arlington Heights, Ill., Kathy Ruth and her husband, Arnie, of Fostoria and Kelly Woods of Harbor Beach; many nieces and nephews; aunts, Betty Quick of Port Sanilac, Eva Hubbard of Port Austin and Dorothy Brashaw of Port Austin; one uncle, Albert Brashaw of the Huron County Medical Care Facility; good friend Lee Iseler of Bad Axe. Lorraine Mazure Mrs. Lorraine Croo Mazure, 70, of Standish and formerly of Ruth, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at her daughter's home in Standish. She was born on July 15, 1931, in Detroit to the late Peter and Leona (Winkelman) Lolkus. She married Paul Croo on Feb. 19, 1948, in Detroit. She married Arthur Mazure on July 18, 1981, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He preceded her in death on June 25, 1999. Lorraine graduated from Denby High School in Detroit. She was a bookkeeper at Wyandotte Electrical and Joba Construction of Brownstown Township. She moved to Ruth in 1981. She also was a bookkeeper at Alan Legatz, C.P.A. in Harbor Beach and Allen Jones, C.P.A. of Deckerville. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Smith Corners. She also was a member of the Smithsonian Society and National Geographic Society. She enjoyed playing cards, word games and crossword puzzles. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed historical research. Lorraine is survived by one daughter, Audette Crain and her husband, Terry, of Standish; two sons, Leon Croo and his wife, Deane, of Garden City, Leslie Croo of Plymouth; two brothers, Melvyn Klein and his wife, Margaret, and Meryl Klein and his wife, Marilyn, all of Clinton Township; 27 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral mass for Lorraine Mazure will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Smith Corners. The Rev. John Weis, pastor, will officiate. Troy Sweeten Troy Sweeten, 76, passed away on Jan. 8, 2002, at his daughter's home in Warren after a long battle with lung cancer. Funeral services took place on Jan. 12, 2002, at Hopcroft Funeral Home in Hazel Park. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery with full military honors. Monday, January 28, 2002 - None Tuesday, January 29, 2002 Gladys Casey Gladys G. Casey, 92, of Southfield died at Providence Hospital on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002. She was born on June 24, 1909 in Spruce, the daughter of Alexander and Mary (Mousseau) Bushey. Gladys and James W. Casey were married on Nov. 17, 1931 at St. Felix Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1988. She was a member of the St. Felix Altar Society, the Kinde VFW and the Pinnebog Women's Club. She is survived by three daughters, Jean Casey, Mary Ann Casey and Helen Casey, all of Redford Township; one son, James A. Casey and his wife, Jean, of Port Austin; grandchildren, James E. Casey, John L. Casey, Catherine Casey and Kelly Casey, all of Detroit. Gladys was preceded in death by her brothers, Max, Lawrence, Lee and Russell Bushey; two sisters, Mina Johnson and Emily Walsh. Cashman, 73, of Dorr and formerly of Lansing, loving mother, grandmother and sister passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2002. She was born May 26, 1928 in Bad Axe. Mrs. Cashman retired from Ingham Medical Hospital as a supervisor in the X-ray department after 36 years of service. Surviving are her children, Jean Felgenhauer and her husband, Duane, of New Port Richey, Fla., Edward Cashman of Lansing, and Kim Wood and her husband, Larry, of Dorr; four grandchildren, Carson, Melissa, Kevin and Logan; one brother, Donald McMullen of Bad Axe; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Cashman in 1986, and one brother, J. Fredrick McMullen. Funeral services will be at noon on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002 at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Devere Dubs Devere "Simon" Dubs, 92, of Pigeon passed away on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002 at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. He was born on Oct. 4, 1909, in Winsor Township, the son of the late Louis and Agnes (Proper) Dubs. On April 14, 1934, he married Alma C. Hanke in Detroit. She preceded him in death on Dec. 11, 1996. After his marriage, Mr. Dubs worked in Detroit for the Hudson Motor Co. He then returned to Huron County and farmed full time, as well as working at the sugar factory for a number of harvests. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linkville. Mr. Dubs is survived by a son, Ron Dubs and his wife, Dianna, of Pigeon; four grandchildren, Ronald Dubs Jr. and his wife, Laura, and Rick Dubs, all of Pigeon, Kim Dubs of Elkton and Tina Sears and her husband, Craig, of Bay Port; five great- grandchildren, Justin, Katelyn, Krissia, Kaylee and Bryce; a brother, William Dubs of Pigeon; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linkville, with the Rev. Lee C. Wenskay, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Grand Lawn Cemetery in Winsor Township. Endersbe, 87, of Bad Axe and formerly of Cass City and Bay City areas, died peacefully in her home on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002. She was born on May 27, 1914 at home in Elkton to Edward and Sylvia (Fetter) Gingrich. On Nov. 25, 1936, she married Stanley K. Endersbe in Cass City. He died on April 5, 1989. Geraldine attended Bay City Central High School. She worked for Dupre Grocery Store in Cass City. Her father, Ed Gingrich, started a piano business in Cass City. From that, Geraldine learned to play piano and became a music teacher. Over the years, she attended the Nazarene Church and Assembly of God Church. Florence Tuckey was Geraldine's first and favorite Sunday school teacher. Geraldine is survived by her children, Euleta Jeffrey and her husband, Jerry, of London, Tenn., Kenneth D. Endersbe of Bay City, Dwight E. Endersbe and his wife, Teresa, of Shelbyville, Ind.; grandchildren, Michael Jeffrey and his wife, Gwen, Greg Jeffrey, Laura Tarnacki and her husband, Bill, Matthew Endersbe and his wife, Deire McCliggott; great-grandchildren, Taylor Jeffrey, Julia Jeffrey, Tucker Endersbe, Leah Tarnacki; step-grandchildren, Billy Burchette, Misti Burchette; step-great- grandchildren, Quinton, Cheyenne, Zack and Dakota Burchette; brother, Raymond Gingrich and his wife, Mary, of Oscoda; several nieces and nephews. Hall, 82, of Pigeon passed away on Monday, Jan. 28, 2002 at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. She was born on Oct. 26, 1919 in Winsor Township, the daughter of the late William H. and Emma (Trost) Lange. On Dec. 29, 1952, she married Carl Hall in Napoleon, Ohio. He preceded her in death on June 24, 1983. Mrs. Hall worked for many years with the Lutheran Children's Friend Society in Detroit. She was then employed for 29 years in the men's department at J.L. Hudson Co. in Detroit. She moved to Pigeon in 1986 after retiring. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, as well as visiting with friends and calling on friends at the hospital. She was a faithful member of the Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon, where she was active with the women of the church, the Altar Guild and she sang with the senior choir. Mrs. Hall is survived by a brother, Henry F. Lange Sr. and his wife, Delores, of Pigeon; two sisters, Edna Hass and her husband, Henry, of Bad Axe, and Helen Schave and her husband, Erwin, of Filion; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, 2002 at Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon, with the Rev. Joseph Wold officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30-9 p.m. on Thursday at Meyersieck- Bussema Funeral Home in Pigeon and from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. McGee, 74, of Harbor Beach passed away on Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Autumnwood of Deckerville following a short illness. He was born on Aug. 18, 1927, in Akron, Ohio, the son of the late George and Anna (Stasikonis) McGee. George is a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving in the U.S. Army for two years. He and Laverne L. Fisher were united in marriage on April 30, 1955. She preceded him in death on June 5, 1974. George was a member of the VFW Post in Harbor Beach, the Harbor Beach Lions Club and the Am Vets of Port Hope. He was retired employee of the RR Donnelly Co. in Detroit for 30 years. He drove the school bus for the Port Hope and Harbor Beach schools and worked part time in the Bad Axe Wal-Mart. After driving a bus for Thumb Area Transit for five years, he finally retired. He is survived by Hazel Fee of Clinton Township; Hazel's daughters, Mary Hopson and Joni Collins; son-in-law, Ken Collins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Borkstrom. In keeping with his wishes, George was cremated at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City with interment to be in Cadillac Memorial Gardens near Mount Clemens. Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach handled the arrangements. Wednesday, January 30, 2002 John Baranski John E. Baranski, 85, of Port Austin died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Saint Mary's hospital in Saginaw. He was born on Oct. 29, 1916, in Port Austin, the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Ignasiak) Baranski. He and Agnes Sosnoski were married on June 14, 1941, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church where he was a past member of the Usher's Club and served on the parish council. He farmed in Hume Township until he retired in 1972. John enjoyed playing cards, working in the garden and yard and going to basketball games. He is survived by his wife, Agnes; two sons, David Baranski of Naperville, Ill. and John Baranski and his wife, Nancy, of Elkton; three grandchildren, Lindsay, Lisa and Brian Baranski of Naperville, Ill.; one brother, Anthony Baranski and his wife, Viola, of Port Austin; one sister, Mary Baranski of Port Austin. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Jane; one brother, Sylvester; one sister, Angeline. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, 1-9 p.m. Thursday and 9-10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Virgil Rosenberger Virgil C. Rosenberger, 69, of Birmingham and formerly of Harper Woods and Cass City, died Jan. 28, 2002, in Harper Hospital in Detroit of pancreatic cancer. Virgil was born on Sept. 26, 1932, in Cass City. He graduated from Elkton High School and served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He married Angeline Dinkert Butland in 1974. He retired in 2000 after 23 years as an electrical engineer for Wickman Industries. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed golf and gardening, especially working with roses. Virgil is survived by his wife, Angeline; three children, Toni Branham, Donald Butland II and Patricia Gruley and her husband, Al; four grandchildren, Bret and his wife, Traci, Lynn and Leigh Gruley, Tina Griner and her husband, Lee, and Donald Butland III; one great-grandchild, Donald Butland IV. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Cass City Missionary Church. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Elkton. Visitation is from 1-8 p.m. today at A. J. Bauer, 65, of Sebewaing, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 31, 2002 at his home following a ten month illness. He was born March 12, 1936, in Sebewaing, son of the late Albert and Emma (Wissner) Bauer. He was baptized on April 12, 1936 at Immanuel Lutheran Church by G.F.L. List and confirmed on April 2, 1950 by Rev. Donald H. Heitner. He attended the Immanuel Lutheran School through the eighth grade and then was a graduate from Sebewaing High School in 1954. He was united in marriage to Betty Arlene Seibel on Aug. 30, 1958 in Unionville. Ray had served in the U.S. Army in the Signal Corp. and 1st Cavalry in Korea from 1956 to 1958. He began his banking career in 1956 at Farmers and Merchants State Bank of Sebewaing and later for Signature Bank of Bad Axe. After 35 years in banking he retired in January of 2000. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing, serving as financial secretary, treasurer, vice chairman and president throughout a 30 year period. He also had been member of the Sebewaing Chamber of Commerce, Sugar Festival Committee and served on the USA School Board of Education for twenty years. Surviving are his wife, Betty of Essexville; two sons, Dean Bauer and his wife, Louise, of Chicago, Daniel Bauer and his wife, Becky, of Duluth, Ga.; four grandchildren, Alec and Ethan of Chicago, Ill., Michael and Meredith of Duluth, Ga.; two brothers, Fred Bauer and his wife, Alice, of Sebewaing, Arthur Bauer of Clinton Township; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Leota Robinson and three brothers, Elmer, Wilbert and Clemence Bauer. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. The Rev. Albert Bahr will officiate. Jurgess, 68, of Harbor Beach passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 31, 2002 at her home in Sigel Township following a long illness. Born in Harbor Beach on Aug. 15, 1933, she was the daughter of the late John and Stella (Grzybowski) Jock. She and Lawton Jurgess were united in marriage on April 25, 1953 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville. Marcella was a Parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rapson and the St. Rita's Altar Society. Surviving are her husband, Lawton Jurgess of Harbor Beach; children, Darlene Yaroch and her husband, Joseph, of Harbor Beach, Karen Pichla and her husband, Ron, of Brown City, Kenneth Jurgess of Ruth, Steven Jurgess and his wife, Betty, of Bad Axe, Mark Jurgess and his wife, Janet, of Brown City, Kevin Jurgess of Harbor Beach, Kimberly Sweeney and her husband, Francis, of Ubly, Roxanne Peruski and her husband, Daniel, of Ubly, Tom Jurgess and his wife, Colleen, of Fife Lake, Bonnie Damm and her husband, Paul, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 26 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; one step great-grandson; two brothers, Stanley Jock and his wife, Patricia, of St. James, Fla., and Delbert Jock and his wife, Carolyn, of Beaverton; and a sister, Shirley Fitchett and her husband, Ron, of Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Ladell Sadie A. Ladell, 99, of Port Austin died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002 at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. Sadie was born Sept. 29, 1902, in Warwick, Ontario, Canada to the late Charles and Louisa Barnes. She was the youngest of 11 children. She was a member of the Protestant Church of Port Austin, the U and I Club of Port Austin, and the American Legion Post No. 499 Auxiliary, Port Austin. She attended college in London, Ontario and taught school for a few years. She was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. She loved baseball, bingo, and cards. Surviving are one son, Donald Ladell and his wife, Diane, of Port Austin; one granddaughter, Kimberly Rice and her husband, Ricky, of Kinde; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at the MacAlpine Funeral Gage Chapel in Kinde with the Rev. Robert Garrett of the Protestant Church of Port Austin officiating. Burial will take place at Cadillac Memorial Gardens in Mount Clemens. Visitation will take place Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Huron County Medical Care Facility or the family discretionary fund. Mabel "Mickie" Marshall Mabel "Mickie" G. Marshall, 87, of Cass City died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002 in her home. She was born Oct. 21, 1914 in Rudyard to George J. and Mary Jane (Gardner) McKee. She married John W. Marshall Dec. 10, 1936 in Lansing. Mickie attended Ferris State University after her high school graduation. She was a charter member of the Cass City Business and Professional Women. She was a life member of the OES Echo Chapter No. 337 serving as a past matron. Mickie was a member of the Cass City United Methodist Church and served as a past president of the United Methodist Women. Over the years, Mrs. Marshall worked for the Secretary of State in Lansing, for Bauer Candy Company, for her husband and son's John Deere business, and finally for Marshall Distributing until retirement in 1984. Mickie loved to cook, bake, and sew. Mickie is survived by her husband, John; son Roger Marshall and his wife, Linda, of Sand Point; granddaughters, Jeanne Huddleston and her husband, Paul, of Rochester, Minn., and Kathy Zimba and her husband, Dennis, of Cass City; great-grandchildren, Jessica and Martin Huddleston of Rochester, Minn. She was preceded in death by her brothers, John McKee and William McKee; sisters, Margaret McKee, Josephine McKee, Eva Holmes, and "Boots" Jacobsen. Funeral services will be take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002 at Cass City United Methodist Church with Dr. Philip Rice and The Rev. James Braid officiating. Messer, 77, of Caro passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. He was born on March 3, 1924, in Bertha, Minn. and came to Michigan in 1955, where he took a job with Chrysler Corporation in the space program. On Aug. 13, 1960, he married the former Eleanor Meihofer in Detroit. They lived in New Orleans from 1962 through 1968. Then in St. Louis, Mo. and returning to Michigan, retiring in 1970. After his retirement, he returned to farming and did so in Elmwood Township from 1970 until 1985. While a resident of Elmwood Township, Roy served 10 years as the Elmwood Township Supervisor. The Messers moved to Caro in 1985. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro and a former member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Bach and their school board. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Messer of Caro; three children, Rochelle Sabo and her husband, Louis, of Marlette, Leslie McAlloon and her husband, Wayne, of Gympie, Queensland, Australia, and Bruce Messer of Caro; eight grandchildren; one step-grandchild; three brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by a step-grandson Devin Seigo, two brothers and three sisters. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro with pastor Eric Lambart officiating. Burial will be at Indianfields Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church. Raymond O'Rourke Raymond J. O'Rourke, 70, of Grand Blanc passed away at his home on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002 after a long illness. Born in Palms on May 30, 1931, he was the son of the late Raymond and Marie (Fink) O'Rourke. He and Dorothy Gerow were united in marriage on July 15, 1950 in Harbor Beach. Ray was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army. He retired from his job at General Motors in 1980. He was a member of the American Legion in Grand Blanc. Ray is survived by his wife, Dorothy O'Rourke; his children, Kathy Parker and her husband, Phil, of McKinney, Texas, Thomas O'Rourke and his wife, Julie, of McKinney, Texas, Lori DeFrain of Clio, and Kelly Daugherty of Grand Blanc; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Eugene O'Rourke of Detroit. He was preceded in death by a brother, John; sisters, Gloria Logan and Donna Wrone; and son- in-law Douglas Daugherty. Funeral services will be take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002 in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach with burial in Our Lady of Lake Huron Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials can be given to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. 1
