Kelly, 80, of Cass City, passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw following a short illness. She was born July 12, 1922 in Tyre to Albert and Belle (Park) Hill. She married John A. Kelly on Aug. 1, 1947 in Scottville. He proceeded her in death on April 8, 1981. Pauline attended school until the eighth grade and recently completed the requirements to receive her diploma. She attended Patricia Stevens' School of Modeling in Detroit. Pauline worked at Nestle's in Cass City for 11 years and then for the State of Michigan at Caro Regional Center for 11 years. She attended St. Pancratius Catholic Church, was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 3644 Cass City VFW, Clan Cambell Society and the Caseville Eagles Aerie No. 3690. Pauline is survived by her son, Thomas Kelly and his wife, Dale, of Cass City; grandchildren Michelle Salcido and her husband Richard of Cass City, Heather Kelly of McKinley, Texas, Drew Kelly of Saginaw; great granddaughter, Abbey Salcido; sister Barbara Jochim and her husband Lyle, of Fairgrove; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Laverne Dodge and Margaret Hill; and her brothers Lloyd, Roy "Bunker" and Clifford Hill. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at St. Pancratius Catholic Church with Rev. Steve Fillion officiating. Interment is in the Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. A vigil service will take place at 7:30 tonight at the Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Selma Weber Selma Bertha Weber, 96, former resident of Kinde, passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Courtney Manor Nursing Center in Bad Axe. She was born Feb. 12, 1906. She married Orie Weber who proceeded her in death in 1959. Selma lived on the farm in Kinde until 1986; then moved to Port Austin where she lived until 1998. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Kinde and the U and I Club of Port Austin. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, gardening and cooking. Selma is survived by her two sons, Ronald Weber and his wife, Shirley, of Snover, Gary Weber and his wife, Delores, of Port Austin; 15 grandchildren, Colleen Miller and her husband, Pierre; Debra Stephens and her husband, Larry; Janet Mazetti and her husband, Steve; Marion Bradley and her husband, Steve; Kurt Weber; Karen Snyder and her husband, John; Cheryl Browers and her husband, Gary; Carolyn Weber; Bob Weber and his wife, Nancy; Bruce Weber; Duane Weber and his wife, Sheryl; Brian Weber and his wife, Tracy; Laura Crase and her husband, Ken; Daphne Young and her husband, Randy; Jeff Weber and his wife, Stephanie; 27 great grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Esther Weiland Weber of Wayne. Monday, December 30, 2002 Donald Bruce Donald W. "Hoppie" Bruce, 49, of Elkton, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at his home after a long battle with health problems. He was born on May 28, 1953 in Bad Axe to Jack and the late Bernadine (Gelnaw) Bruce. Don grew up in Chandler Township, north of Elkton, and graduated from Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port High School in 1971. On June 7, 1980, he was united in marriage to Barbara L. McBride at St. Felix Catholic Church in Pinnebog. After high school, he worked at Schubach Farms until 1978. Then he began working at Huron Casting in Pigeon where he was currently employed. In 2000, he began his own business, H & A Trucking. Don "Hoppie" was a wonderful family man. He truly loved snowmobiling, deer and pheasant hunting with his boys. He and his wife also very much enjoyed Laker sports and watching their boys compete in track, football and basketball, never missing a game or an event. He coached T-ball for many years, served with the Junior Livestock Association at the Huron Community Fair, was a member of the Thumb Tractor Pullers Association and St. Felix Catholic Church in Pinnebog. Don was an avid gardener and he grew enough vegetables for the whole township. In the spring he could be found collecting maple syrup with his buddy, Jim. He is survived by his wife, Barb; three sons, Justin L., Matthew A. and Timothy L. Bruce, all at home; his parents, Jack and Pat Bruce of Elkton; brothers, John Bruce and his wife, Jenny, of Pigeon, Ted Bruce and his wife, Kathie, of Traverse City, Dan Bruce and his wife, Sally, of Elkton, Jim Bruce and his wife, Harriet, of Bay Port, Bill Bruce and his wife, Linda, of Unionville, Mike Bruce of Elkton, Dave Bruce and his wife, Edwinna, of Capac and Brad Bruce and his wife, Tammy, of White Lake; sisters, Lorie Krohn and her husband, Ray, of Elkton, Kathy Kerr and her husband, Randy, of Elkton; step-brothers, Gary Kivel and his wife, Paulette, of Lupton and Kevin Kivel and his wife, Tami, of Elkton; step-sister, Sherry Burns of Cass City. "Betty" McDonald, 100, of Port Austin, died on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born on March 27, 1902 in Sault Ste. Marie, daughter of the late William and Florence (Hedge) Carter. Betty married Daniel McDonald on Oct. 7, 1926 in Detroit. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1969. Betty moved to Port Austin from Presque Isle in 1955. She was an honorary member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary which she joined in 1937. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Bad Axe. Betty is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. Officiating will be the Rev. Jerry W. Sutton, pastor of the Bad Axe Free Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Port Austin Township Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Tuesday, December 31, 2002 Philip Clancy Philip "George" Clancy, 50, formerly of Port Austin, died on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002. He is survived by his loving wife, Laura; his children, Kate, Mac and Troy; his faithful dog Bandit; his parents, Phil and Doris Clancy, of Port Austin; mother-in-law, Marilyn Frenk; his brothers, Ron and his wife, Laura, and Dan; and he was "the fun uncle" to several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Terry. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at the Oxford United Methodist Church. Dunn, 73, of Elkton, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. He was born on March 3, 1927 in Bay City to the late Harry and Agnes (VanWert) Dunn. After serving in the U.S. Army, Duane moved to Elkton and worked at his dad's service station at the corner of North Main Street and Brown Street and with a railroad for awhile. On July 1, 1950, he was united in marriage to Mildred D. Zarnke at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon. They moved to Flint shortly after and he began a career working for Buick. In March 1993, he retired as a supervisor after 43 years with Buick. Four months later, they moved back to Elkton. He was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling. He loved gardening and was an avid reader also. He is survived by his wife, Mildred; four children, Marilyn Campbell of Flint, James Dunn and his wife, Diana, of Flushing, Beth Covers and her husband, Robert, and Timothy Dunn, all of Swartz Creek; six grandchildren, Jason, Sara, Carri, Becky, Alex and Andre; his sister, Patricia Brown, of California; his brother, Robert Dunn and his wife, Theresa, of New Mexico. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sr. Marie Magdalene (Betty). A funeral mass will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon. No obituaries. Thursday, January 2, 2003 Amy Heiden Amy J. Heiden, 49, of Elkton, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at her home after a long illness. She was born on Nov. 16, 1953 in Kingsport, Tenn., to Dorothy (Greene) Gwaldis and the late James P. Gwaldis. She was raised in the small town of Big Stone Gap, Va., deep in the mountains of southwest Virginia. She graduated from Powell Valley High School in Big Stone Gap in 1972 and attended Mountain Empire Community College. She also attended Delta College after moving to Michigan. In November 1976, she joined the U.S. Army and after training, served as a motor transport operator with the 1st Supply and Transport Battalion, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kan. There she met James Heiden of Elkton, who also was a truck driver and assistant platoon sergeant for the 1st S & T Battalion. They were married on March 25, 1978 in Normandy Chapel on Custer Hill at Ft. Riley. After her Army service ended in 1979, she and her husband moved to Elkton. In 1988, she began working for the Progress- Advance newspaper, later the Newsweekly, as a reporter/photographer for nine years. She freelanced stories to the Bay City Times the American Kennel Club Gazette and other publications. She later worked for the Huron Daily Tribune as an editorial assistant for five years, from 1997 until this last year when her health would not permit it. She was a member of the Elkton United Methodist Church, a former member and president of the Elkton Chamber of Commerce and a 22-year member of the Golden Retriever Club of America. She was co-chairwoman of the 1997 Elkton Centennial and 1998 Elkton AutumnFest and played a major role in organizing the festivals. She played a major part also in the production of the Elkton and Caseville Centennial family history books by typing and editing family stories. Amy's favorite activities were working in her flower gardens, reading and surfing the Internet. She enjoyed listening to a wide variety of music also. Amy enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She is survived by her husband, James; a son, Christopher, of Spring Arbor; a sister, Norma Maxvill and her husband, Tom, of St. Clair Shores; a brother, James P. "Jay" Gwaldis Jr. and his wife, Michele Leslie, of Falls Church, Va.; her mother, Dorothy Gwaldis, of Pigeon; brothers-in-law, Timothy Heiden and his wife, Barb, Kenneth Heiden and his wife, Valerie, and Carl Heiden and his wife, Kimberly, all of Elkton, John Roth of Jacksonville, N.C.; a sister-in- law, Diana Heiden of Kinde; father-in-law, Carl W. Heiden and his wife, Sharon, of Elkton; several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, James P. Gwaldis; and her mother-in-law, Audrey Roth of Brown City. Keillor, 97, of Waterford and formerly of Bad Axe and New Baltimore, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002. Mrs. Keillor was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bad Axe and First Congregational Church of New Baltimore. She is survived by her son, Donald W. Keillor, of Freeville, N.Y.; daughter, Joanne Kaminskis and her husband, Robert, of Waterford; grandchildren, Howard Robert Keillor and his wife, Maureen, Janet Elizabeth McDaniel and her husband, Joe, Ronald MacDonald Keillor Longmire, Donald Wayne Keillor Aponte, Kimberly K. Shaffer and her husband, Robert, and Robert Lewis Kaminskis, Jr.; 13 great-grandchildren; one great- great grandchild; cousin, Mary Graybiel of Clarkston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard E. Keillor in 1966; sisters, Ina MacDonald, Emma MacDonald and Jane Hahn; brothers, James MacDonald and George MacDonald and Edgar McDonald. Schroka, 80, of Port Austin, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born on May 29, 1922 in Detroit. Helen moved to Port Austin from Warren in 2000. She enjoyed spending time in the casinos and gambling. She is survived by her son, Dennis Schroka and his wife, Kathy, of Port Austin; grandchildren, Edward Schroka and his wife, Theresa, of Port Austin and Kelly Kemp and her husband, James, of Dearborn; great-grandchildren, Ed Schroka Jr. and Joseph Schroka. Cremation will take place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. Arrangements are being handled by the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. Friday, January 03, 2003 Clara Reinke Clara H. Reinke, 90, of Port Hope, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at the long- term care unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital following a long illness. She was born on July 12, 1912 in Port Hope, the daughter of the late William and Martha (Leidke) Hartz. On July 18, 1930, she was united in marriage to William Reinke in Port Hope. He preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1989. Clara was the owner and operator of restaurants in Port Hope and Port Sanilac. She operated a foster care home in Port Hope also. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope. She is survived by her children, Roy Reinke and his wife, Elaine, of Port Hope, Martha Popour and her husband, Garth, of Port Hope and Robert Reinke and his wife, Rosemary, of Warren; six grandchildren, Michael Reinke and his wife, Karen, Cathy Woodke and her husband, Greg, Garth W. Popour and his wife, Shannon, Lisa Pleiness and her husband, Duane, Dawn Deer and Renay Reinke; 11 great-grandchildren, Zachari, Caitlyn and Trent Popour, Zane, Terra and Neven Pleiness, Cody Deer, Taylor and Anthony Reinke, Paige and Ty Woodke; two sisters, Edna Leese, of Garden City and Lorraine Miller, of Sebewaing. Clara was preceded in death by nine brothers, Herb, Ernie, Earl, Bob, Clarence, Herman, Oscar, Raymond and Billy Hartz; three sisters, Ida Archer, Mathilda Friedland and Agnes Humberger. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope with the Rev. Gregory Eilers, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Port Hope. A scripture service will be conducted at 7:30 tonight in the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach. Visitation is from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from noon until the time of services Saturday at the church. 7
