Sunday, October 5, 2003 Al "Pat" Fisher Pat Fisher, 90, of Imlay City, formerly of Port Austin, died Friday, October 3, 2003, at his home. He was born on November 1, 1912 in Grindstone City, son of the late Anthony and Mary (Horetski) Szeszycki. Pat was a member of the American Legion Frank Horetski Post 499 in Port Austin for 59 years. He was also a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. Pat served in the United States Army during WWII throughout the entire war. He enjoyed spending time putting together puzzles. Pat is survived by three sisters, Gertrude Thayer, of Imlay City, Viola Ignash, of Kinde and Regina Kowalski, of Kinde. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill Fisher, Walter Szeszycki and Stanley Szeszycki; and one sister, Frances Herifferon. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 6, 2003, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. The Rev. Mieczyslaw Oniskiewicz will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be today from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at the church. A vigil will be held this evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Al Jean Al D. Jean, 56, long-time resident of Caseville, died Thursday evening, October 2, 2003, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw following a long battle with MS. He was born March 7, 1947 in Pigeon to Edith B. (Langley) Jean and the late George Jean, Jr. Al D. left the area for a time first to serve in the U.S. Army. When he returned, he became a security guard working in Chicago, Detroit and Bay City until he was forced to retire early for health reasons. Surviving are his mother, Edith Wiese, of Caseville; two daughters, Deanna and Barbara; and his grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two sisters, Carol Kelso and Shelly Snider, who both died of the same terrible disease. There will be no visitation or funeral service. Edward Shubitowski Edward Everett Shubitowski, 83, of Conneaut, Ohio, died September 24, 2003, in Conneaut. He was born October 19, 1919 in Harbor Beach, the son of Michael and Mary Loretta (Brown) Shubitowski, and was a 1937 graduate of Harbor Beach High School. Edward and Anerva Rappold were married December 22, 1944 in New London, Connecticut. She died June 26, 1999. He sailed on the Great Lakes on the Pittsburgh Steamship Company and U.S. Steel Company ore carriers, retiring in 1981. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II, and was employed at the Huron Milling Company in Harbor Beach for a short time after the war. He is survived by a son, Thomas Shubitowski and his wife, Tamara, of Conneaut, Ohio; two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Anthony Shubitowski and his wife, Rose, of Clinton Township; two sisters, Mary DeLong, of Rome, NewYork, and Ann Wagner and her husband, David, of Harbor Beach. He was predeceased by his wife, Anerva Shubitowski; his parents; five brothers, Joseph Shubitowski, Jerome Shubitowski, Bernard Shubitowski, James Shubitowski, and Charles Shubitowski; and brother-in-law, Alvin DeLong. Funeral services were conducted at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Conneaut, Ohio with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Monday, October 06, 2003 Bernice Carmody Bernice Elizabeth Carmody, 79, of Harbor Beach, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2003, in the long term care unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born in Detroit on March 19, 1924, she was the youngest of seven children of the late August and Pauline (Goethals) VanCoillie. She attended her first two years of high school at St. Rose School and transferred to Dominican High School, graduating in 1942. Bernice attended St. Joseph Nursing College in Detroit and graduated in 1945. She practiced as a registered nurse at Jennings Hospital and Receiving Hospital in Detroit. Bernice also practiced at Harbor Beach Community Hospital from 1969 until she retired in 1985. Bernice and James W. Carmody, Jr. were united in marriage on August 31, 1946 in St. Rose Catholic Church in Detroit by the Rev. Isidore L. Bohr. She is survived by her husband, James W. Carmody, Jr., of Harbor Beach; 11 children, James W. Carmody, III, of Michigan, Timothy D. Carmody, of Florida, Dennis J. Carmody, of Florida, Maureen C. Hughes, of Nebraska, Patrick M. Carmody, of Florida, Michael J. Carmody, of Michigan, Joseph P. Carmody, of Michigan, Martin T. Carmody, of Nebraska, Thomas T. Carmody, of Wisconsin, Daniel M. Carmody, of Colorado, and Pauline T. Reisman, of Florida; 26 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A private family wake will take place at the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach, with a private family funeral mass at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, Harbor Beach. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Bernice Furness Bernice Eileen Furness, 82, of Elkton, died Saturday, October 4, 2003, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. She was born on July 9, 1921 at the home of her parents, the late Culver and Margaret (Keillor) Morell in Chandler Township. On September 29, 1939, she was united in marriage to Stanford Furness at the Kinde Presbyterian Church. They made their home in the Village of Elkton where they raised three children. She graduated from Chicago Floral Design. After her family had grown, she worked at Hart's Flowers in Bad Axe for more than 25 years and retired in the mid 1980s. Stanford preceded her in death on October 10, 2002. She is survived by two daughters, Jeanette Furness, of Washington and Eileen Slempin and her husband, Gary, of Las Vegas; one son, Burton Furness and his wife, Mary; two grandchildren, Chris and Matt; two great- grandchildren, Zachary and Ashley. Preceding her in death was her brother, James Morell. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton. The Rev. Deweerd Smith, pastor of the Community Wesleyan Church, will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton. The guest book may be signed at www.CFCelkton.com. Anna Gall Anna Margarete Catharine Gall, 95, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2003, at Heartland Health Care Center, Bay City. She was born January 4, 1908 in Heide Holstein, Germany, daughter of the late Johann and Emma (Lange) Claussen. She arrived with her mother at Ellis Island on August 31, 1923, and they settled in Sebewaing with relatives. Anna was united in marriage to Clarence R. Gall on August 3, 1930. He preceded her in death on December 15, 1964. She retired from the U.S. Post Office in Sebewaing after more than 40 years of service. Anna was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the Ladies Aide, was a choir member for over 50 years, and was a Morning Glory quilter for many years. Anna is survived by her son, John F. Gall and his wife, Jeannette, of Sand Point; her daughter, Elisa A. Mast and her husband, Earl, of Bay City; six grandchildren, Pamela Matthews and her husband, Daniel, of Alger, Debra Rooke and her husband, Paul, of Lexington, Kentucky., John C. Gall, of Leonard, Mark Mast and his wife, Krista, of Bay City, James Gall, of Shelby, and Lisa Ranger and her husband, Robert, of Midland; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by infant grandchildren, Scott and Beth Mast. Anna's family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to all of the Heartland Home staff for the kind and compassionate care they extended to Anna and her family for more than five years. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Esther Iseler Esther W. Iseler, 80, of Huron Township, Port Austin, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2003, at her home following a long illness. Born in Port Hope on March 18, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Martha (Zick) Schubring. On May 25, 1946, Esther and Kenneth Iseler were united in marriage in Port Hope. Esther was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope and was a member of the Married Couples Club, PTL and Ladies Aide. She was a charter member of the AmVets Auxiliary of Post 115 in Port Hope. Esther and Ken were members of the Tip of the Thumb Square Dance Club and numerous card clubs. Esther was well known for her baking, cooking, great laughter and polka dancing with her husband. Jaworski, 92, of Filion, died Sunday, October 5, 2003, at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. He was born on September 27, 1911 in Dwight Township, son of the late John and Antonette (Cheslock) Jaworski. Sylvester married Rose Polega on February 4, 1939, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dwight Township. She preceded him in death on April 14, 1994. Sylvester was a life long farmer and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dwight Township. He is survived by two sons, Daniel and his wife, Irene, of Warren, and Edwin and his wife, Christine, of Filion; five grandchildren, Gary Jaworski, Michael Jaworski, Richard Jaworski, Lou Ann Learman, and Terri Renlick; one great-granddaughter, Tiffany. A funeral mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dwight Township. The Rev. Mieczyslaw Oniskiewicz will officiate. Tuesday, October 7, 2003 – No obituaries reported Wednesday, October 8, 2003 Viola Duerr Viola "Mizz" Duerr, 75, resident of Ocala, Florida, and former resident of Kinde, died Saturday, September 27, 2003, at Sylvia's Hospice House in Ocala, Florida. She was born November 3, 1929 in Bismark, Missouri to the late William and Elsie (Schultz) Roehrs. Viola and Keith "Fuzz" Duerr were married September 5, 1951. They recently celebrated 52 years of marriage. Mrs. Duerr was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ocala, Florida, and Marion Oaks Country Club. She worked for many years at Hubbard Bank in Kinde, which later became Community Bank. She retired from Community Bank in 1970 and moved to Florida with her husband in 1975. She enjoyed photography and golf. Viola is survived by her husband, Keith Duerr; two sisters-in-law, June Edwards and her husband, Glenn, of Bad Axe, Elva Heyd and her husband, Clinton, of Baldwin; cousin, Larry Essenmacher and his wife, Carol, of Vassar; two nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, the Rev. Edward Roehrs, Fritz Roehrs; one sister, Clara Ruth Adams. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2003, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. The Rev. Kenneth Lueke will officiate. Beaver, 79, of Kalamazoo, passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2003, in Kalamazoo. Norman was born on February 14, 1924 in Lincoln Park, the son of George M. and Doris M. (Bentley) Beaver and he had been a resident of Kalamazoo for 30 years. During his working years, he was a bus driver for Indian Trails Bus Line, a truck driver for Brody Miller Freight Line, operated Beaver's Xpressway Inn, and then was associated with the Spring Creek Campsite as the owner-manager, retiring in 1985. During World War II and the Korean Conflict, he served two separate tours of duty with the United States Marines. On August 26, 1966, Norman was united in marriage to the former Barbara Jean Ballett, who preceded him in death on October 5, 1999. He is survived by his children, Richard Beaver and his wife, Kathy, of Ubly, Martha Arnott, of Mattawan, Georgiana Beaver, of Elkton, Kathleen Kowalski and her husband, Chris, of Lewisburg, Tennessee, Norma Jean Beaver, of Lawton, Jo Ann Alexander and her husband, Faron, of Cass City, Dean Beaver, of Temperance; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, Marvin Beaver, of Bad Axe, Loren Beaver and his wife, Pat, of Caseville, Kenneth Beaver and his wife, Que, of Wayne, Gerald Beaver and his wife, Kay, of Northville; sister, Mary Wencel and her husband, Gary, of Ypsilanti; step-daughter, Judy Purdy, of Exeter, California; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Michael Beaver, on July 14, 1994 and Timothy Joel Beaver, on June 10, 2003; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister, Florence Lawrence. Jahr, 82, of Sebewaing, died Wednesday morning, October 8, 2003, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe following a lengthy illness. She was born October 25, 1920 in Owendale, daughter of the late Daniel and Adeline A. (Schmidt) Albrecht. She was united in marriage to Wilbert C. Jahr on December 15, 1946 in Sebewaing. He preceded her in death on October 6, 1996. Marion was a homemaker and farmed with her husband for many years in the Sebewaing area. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. She loved her cats. Marion is survived by one sister, Beatrice Ziel, of Port Austin; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Baur, of Sebewaing and Neva Albrecht, of Owendale; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Milton Albrecht; and one sister, Ella Ziel. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2003, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. "Ham" Lermont, 80, of Harbor Beach, passed away at Harbor Beach Community Hospital with hospice care on Tuesday, October 7, 2003. Born in Harbor Beach on January 4, 1923, he was the son of the late John and Burnice (Peterson) Lermont. He was a graduate of Harbor Beach Schools in 1940 where he starred in football. John was a merchant marine, sailing on the Great Lakes for several years before entering the Army. While in the Army, he played football and traveled throughout the world, including South Africa playing organized football. On July 9, 1955, John was united in marriage to Lexie Paige in Harbor Beach. He was a retired employee of the City of Harbor Beach, working for 32 years at the waste water treatment plant and retiring in 1988 as supervisor. Ham was a volunteer fireman for 43 years for the Harbor Beach Fire Department and was an assistant chief. He was a former member of the Harbor Beach Jaycees and past president, a former member of the Masonic Lodge F & AM and Past Master. He was a member of the American Legion Post 197 of Harbor Beach. He attended the First Baptist Church and was an avid football fan of the Harbor Beach Pirates, attending games until a few weeks ago. Ham is survived by his wife, Lexie Lermont, of Harbor Beach; children, Heather Pate and her husband, Donald, of Indianapolis, Indiana, J.P. Lermont and his wife, Connie, of Harbor Beach, Harriett Talaski and her husband, Charles, of St. Clair, and Jane Smallwood and her husband, Paul, of Traverse City; seven grandchildren, Jason, John, and Kari Lermont, Allie and Rachael Talaski, and Paige and Collin Smallwood. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2003, in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach, with the Rev. Andrew Willis, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Friday, October 10, 2003 Anna Parrott Anna Margaret Parrott, 73, of Deckerville, died Thursday, October 9, 2003, in Deckerville Community Hospital. She was born February 15, 1930 in Detroit, the daughter of the late Philip J. and Mary (Stuckert) Nauman. She married Robert Parrott on June 4, 1949 in Palms. Mrs. Parrott was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Palms. She was a past member and secretary of the Deckerville Community Hospital Board for many years. She was the co-founder of Parrott's Tours. She was member and past president of the Sororian Club. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and cooking for her family. She is survived by her husband, Robert, of Deckerville; two sons, Phillip Parrott and his wife, Barbara, of Deckerville and Paul Parrott and his wife, Stephane, of Boyne City; two granddaughters, Melissa Kolasinski and her husband, David, and Kelley Parrott; two great-grandchildren, Sophie and James Kolasinski; one sister, Phyllis Klaus and her husband, Earl, of Deckerville. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Anna Margaret Parrott will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2003, in St. John Lutheran Church, Palms. Pastor Henry Malone will officiate.
