Dressler, 83, of Sebewaing, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, April 2, 2003, at his home. He was born Jan. 8, 1920 in Sebewaing, son of the late John and Rose (Bockmiller) Dressler. He was united in marriage to Jean Thoret on April 10, 1948 in Sebewaing. Ernst had been a farmer in the Sebewaing area for many years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at Sand Point. He enjoyed hockey, football, softball, hunting, ice fishing, and at one time was an avid bowler. Surviving besides his wife, Jean, are one son, one daughter and spouses: Curtis and Sue Dressler of Rochester Hills, Pam and Randy Dutcher of Gautier, Miss.; two grandsons, John and Paul Dressler; one great-grandson, Dylan Dressler; two sisters, Dorothy Youngs and Florence Hornbacher, both of Sebewaing, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Violet Webb. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2003, at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. Pastor Jim Nihiser, of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, will officiate with burial in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Sebewaing. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the American Heart Association or the donor's choice. Sharon Horetski Sharon J. Horetski of Port Austin died Friday, April 4, 2003 at her home. She was born in Detroit, daughter of the late Leo and Faye (McDonald) Finkel. She and Dennis Horetski were married on Nov. 19, 1994 in the Log Cabin Chapel in Bad Axe. Sharon was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Port Hope. She worked at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. She loved her cat Lil' Grey and her Bichon Frise dog Abby. She enjoyed crafts and crocheting beautiful afghans. Sharon also enjoyed taking family vacations and loved spending time with her granddaughter, Katy. She is survived by her husband, Dennis; her daughter, Victoria Grundman and her husband, Tom, of Allen Park; two step-daughters, Tracy Romzek and her husband, Scott, of Clio, and Tammy Horetski of East Lansing; one step-son, Joseph, at home; her granddaughter, Katy; her step-grandson, Andrew; and her sister, Linda Siewert and her husband, Henry, of Bad Axe; She also is survived by two nephews, Richard Siewert and Steven Siewert and his wife, Sherry. She was preceded in death by her brother, Cecil Finkel; and her sister, Carol Finkel. A funeral service will take place at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2003, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Port Hope. Officiating will be the Rev. Greg Eilers. Burial will follow in Colfax Township Cemetery. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from noon to 1:30 p.m. Monday at the church. Monday, April 7, 2003 Susie Grzybowski Susie Grzybowski, 96, of Ubly, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2003, at her home after a short illness. Susie was born on Aug. 7, 1906 in Parisville to the late Casper and Josephine (Gomoluch) Brazar. She married Theodore Grzybowski on Aug. 23, 1921 at St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville. He preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1970. Susie was a member of St. John Catholic Church of Ubly for 62 years. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed card games. Susie is survived by her five children, Margaret Miller of Ubly, Evelyn Burkhart of Escanaba, Theodore Geboski Jr. and his wife, Gerry, of Lewiston, Ethel Gallagher and her husband, Byron, of Mount Pleasant, Norma Burroff and her husband, Eddie, of Lansing; 21 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 10 great- great-grandchildren. Susie was preceded in death by her two sons, Williard in 1939, and James in 1996; 12 siblings; sons-in-law, Harry Miller and Robert Burkhart; daughter-in- law, Joan Geboski; one granddaughter, Leslie Bluebond; one grandson, Fred Miller. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at St. John Catholic Church of Ubly. The Rev. T.J. Fleming, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Zinger- Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Building Fund, The Salvation Army, or Thumb Area Veterans Organizations. Sherry Kovick Sherry L. Kovick, 78, of Caseville, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. She was born on March 19, 1926 in Detroit to the late Thomas and Ann (Boran) Haigh. Mrs. Kovick was a court stenographer in Wayne County until 1988, and at that point she became the manager of a HUD apartment complex in Southfield. In 1996, she retired and on Labor Day that year she and her husband moved to Caseville. She was a member and Eucharistic minister at St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville and a member of the Caseville Eagles Auxiliary. Sherry enjoyed knitting and doing needlepoint. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, William Kovick; a son, Tom Smith; daughter, Sherry Ann Jacobs of Chesterson, Ind.; a grandson, Robert Jacobs and his wife, Shelly, of Ann Arbor; great-grandson, Adrian Jacobs. Hanlon Sears Hanlon F. Sears, 83, of Caseville, died Monday morning at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. A memorial service is being planned for a later date. Balint, 88, lifelong resident of Bad Axe, died Sunday evening, April 6, 2003, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born on Dec. 22, 1914 in Bad Axe to the late Dominic and Anna (Wagner) Gorang. Margaret and Stephen Balint were united in marriage on Nov. 7, 1936. They were married 66 years. He survives her. Margaret enjoyed cooking and traveling. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She worked as a cook in the cafeteria of Sacred Heart Catholic School for 10 years. She is survived by her husband, Stephen; one son, Gary Balint and his wife, Cheryl, of Dearborn; two daughters, Loraine Howard and her husband, Dale, of Bad Axe, Bonnie Kelly and her husband, Pat, of South Lyon; one brother, John Gorang and his wife, Betty, of Oakland; eight grandchildren, David Howard and his wife, Pauline, of Bad Axe, Ken Howard and his wife, Lynn of Troy, Karen Hass and her husband, Mark, of Bad Axe, Michael Kelly and his wife, Cathy, of South Lyon, Christopher Kelly and his wife, Alisha, of Brighton, Stephen Kelly of Brighton, Amy Balint of San Franciso, Calif., Daniel Balint of Boston, Mass.; 11 great-grandchildren, Darin, Cory, Julia, Daria, Brian, and Emily Howard, Janeen and Lauren Hass, Samantha, Nathan, and Joe Kelly; three sisters-in-law, Myrtle Gorang of Saline, Thelma Gorang of Bad Axe, Lena Baumert of California; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be offered to Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Dr. Douglas Frantz Dr. Douglas William Frantz, 85, of Traverse City, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Grand Traverse Pavilions. Born on June 26, 1917 in Ubly, he was the son of William and Elizabeth (Johnston) Frantz. He married the former Arlene Anderson in Des Moines, Iowa in 1942. She survives him. After graduating from Michigan State College, Doug attended Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine graduating in 1943. He returned to Michigan to begin general practice in Detroit. Douglas and Arlene moved with their family to Traverse City in 1951, where he remained a family physician until his retirement in 1982. In addition to his practice in Traverse City, he maintained an office in Cedar during the 1950s. Doug was known by many as a compassionate person who cared deeply about his work and his patients. Especially gratifying to him were the many births that he attended. He was a kind and generous man, genuinely interested in people of all backgrounds, and helped many in need. Doug's active community involvement included 52 years as a Kiwanis Club member, serving as president in 1962. He played an instrumental role on the Osteopathic Hospital building committee, which established the hospital on Munson Avenue during the early 1960s. After retiring, he served for 15 years as a member of the Grand Traverse County Family Independence Agency Board, and helped to establish the groundwork for Grand Traverse Pavilions. He was a member of the Grand Traverse Pavilions Foundation until his death. Doug was also a longtime member of Central United Methodist Church. Doug enjoyed outdoor activities, his card playing and fishing buddies, travel and especially his family. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Arlene; sons, Douglas Frantz Jr. and his wife, Laura Evans, of Brattleboro, Vt., Dennis Frantz of Traverse City, David Frantz and his wife, Linda, of Bend, Ore.; daughter, Donna Flynn and her husband, Michael, of Traverse City; grandchildren, Isaac Evans-Frantz, Emily and Rachel Flynn; brother, Willis Frantz of Youngstown, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Mausolf, 73, of Harbor Beach, passed away Monday, April 7, 2003, in Harbor Beach Community Hospital long term care unit. He was born on May 6, 1929 in Harbor Beach to the late George and Eleanor (Kranz) Mausolf. On Aug. 7, 1954, Ken was united in marriage to Leona Booms in Ruth. He retired in 1991 from Carmet in Bad Axe after working for 26 years and he was a retired Sand Beach Township farmer. Ken was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. He is survived by his wife, Leona Mausolf of Harbor Beach; children, Kathleen Cleland and her husband, Roger, of Deckerville, Karen Dallas and her husband, Tom, of Harbor Beach, Douglas Mausolf and his wife, Pat, of Sandusky, Jean Sweeney and her husband, Fred, of Jeddo, Julie Drouse and her husband, Ed, of Walled Lake, Mary Pfaff of Harbor Beach, Mitzie Koroleski and her husband, Steve, of Kinde, Lisa Hegenauer and her husband, Doug, of Mount Pleasant; daughter-in-law, Betty Scharrer of Ruth; 24 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie O'Donnell of Fort Gratiot and Rosemary Roggenbuck and her husband, William, of Harbor Beach; brother Fr. Wednesday, April 9, 2003 – No obituaries reported Thursday, April 10, 2003 Mae Bouck Mae Bouck passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Huron County Medical Care Facility. Mae was the daughter of the late George and Adelia Peterson of Kinde. She married Olin F. Bouck on Dec. 1, 1934 and lived near Kinde and Cass City. They spent many winters in Holiday, Fla. Mae graduated from Pinnebog High School and Huron County Normal. She taught for one year until her marriage. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and was active in the ladies aid and child study club. Mae enjoyed reading, playing cards and corresponding with her friends and family. She was a member of the Women's Club in Holiday, Fla. She is survived by her husband, Olin; two sons, Roger Bouck and his wife, Vera, of Cass City, Ernest Bouck and his wife, Bev, of Royal Oak; seven grandchildren, Patricia Widger and her husband, Rob, of Fenton, Jennifer Vida and her husband, Bruce, of Lansing, Madeleine Bouck of Howell, Ronald Bouck, Nathan Bouck, Zachary Bouck, and Jesse Bouck, all of Cass City; special friend and caretaker, Dawn Leslie of Decker; daughter-in-law, Monica Gallas; several brothers- in-law; several sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. Ronald Hyzer Ronald James Hyzer, 56, lifelong resident of Port Austin, died Monday evening, April 7, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He was born in Bad Axe on Sept. 27, 1946 to the late James Wilford and Virginia (Hebert) Hyzer. He married Deborah Ziolkowski on Oct. 11, 1968. She survives him. Ronald was a good and generous man who lost a five-year battle with cancer. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a lifelong farmer. He worked installing farm tile and excavating. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Along with his wife, Ronald is survived by one son, Matthew Hyzer and his wife, Michelle, of Port Austin; one daughter, Tracey Rupinski and her husband, Pete, of Ellsworth; two brothers, David Hyzer and his wife, Diane, of Bad Axe, Dale Hyzer and his wife, Monica, of Fairview; five sisters, Jacqueline Koroleski and her husband, Anthony, of Kinde, Joan Opperman and her husband, James, of Portland, Cathy Rayl and her husband, Raymond, of Concord, Mary Moore and her husband, Robert, of Burton, Beverly Stanley and her husband, Joseph, of Waterford; father-in-law, Joseph Ziolkowski; brother-in-law, Donald Smith and his wife, Terry, of Caseville; brother-in-law, Dennis Ziolkowski and his wife, Ann, of Dallas, Texas; sister- in-law Darlene Tobius and her husband, Ken, of Boyne; and many nieces and nephews. Baranski, 69, of Clinton Township and formerly of Warren, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Mount Clemens General Hospital. He was born on Feb. 20, 1934 in Port Austin, son of the late Tony and Adelaide (Horetski) Baranski. He married Beatrice Micklash on Sept. 15, 1956 at St. Mary's in Parisville. Andy retired from Chrysler after 37 years as an engineer. He is survived by his wife, Bea; five children, Mary Lou Baranski and her friend, Michael, Kathy Goyette and her husband, Archie, Mark Baranski and his wife, Rita, Joan Marzolino and her husband, Joseph, and Steven Baranski; ten grandchildren, Andrea, Arcade, and Alicia Goyette, Daniel, Janine, Steven, and Megan Baranski, Richard and James Peak, Stephanie Marzolino; one great- granddaughter, Skylyn Goyette; one brother, Chester Baranski and his wife, Mary Jane, of Port Austin; one sister, Johanna Polk of Kinde; his mother-in-law, Stella Micklash of Ubly; many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. Rosary will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Mary Spelman "Betty" Mary Elizabeth Spelman, 85, of Ubly, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Courtney Manor of Bad Axe. Betty was born March 13, 1918 in Port Austin to the late Clarence and Josephine (Kohler) McGardle. She married Claude Spelman on Oct. 14, 1950 at the Congregation Church of Battle Creek. Betty graduated from Port Austin High School and then attended business college for two years. She worked for Probate Court in Huron County for 15 years. She moved to Ubly in 1963. She was an insurance saleswoman for Marshall Palach Insurance Company of Ubly for a few years. She bowled in Bad Axe for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles, and traveling. Betty is survived by her husband, Claude, of Ubly; and many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Louise Wutke; and brother, Peter McGardle. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2003, at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home of Ubly. The Rev. Robert A. Srock, pastor of Jeddo United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Valley Cemetery of Ubly. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 9:30 p.m. tonight and from noon until the service time at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home of Ubly. Memorials may be to the Alzheimer's Association. Mary Ross Mary M. Ross, 78, of Bad Axe, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2003, at her home following an extended illness. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no service or visitation. Arrangements are being handled by the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe.
