Fisher Martin "Mark" Fisher, 70, of Port Austin, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. He was born Aug. 17, 1932 in Port Austin, son of the late Frank and Anna (Jimkoski) Fisher. Martin was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. He is survived by three daughters, Sheri Nowiski and her husband, Keith, of Port Austin, Janet LaValley and her husband, Ronny, and Pam Fisher and her special friend, Brian, of Elkton; one son, Chuck Fisher and his wife, Vickie, of North Carolina; six grandchildren, Melinda, Angela, Camille, Robby, Casey, and Brianna; two great- great-granddaughters; five sisters, Tillie Ventline, Agnes Inda, Helen Schramski and her husband, John, Josephine Kozlowski and her husband, Harry, and Florence Prill and her husband, Alex; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Tim Fisher; and one brother, Albert "Jim" Fisher. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2003, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. Officiating will be the Rev. Robert Pare, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. There will be a vigil at 7:30 tonight at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the church. Althea G. Lorencz Althea Geraldine Lorencz, 84, of Owendale, passed away Thursday morning, June 5, 2003, at her home surrounded by her loving family following a one-year battle with cancer. She was born June 26, 1918 at Colling, the seventh of 13 children born to the late Carlton and Jessie (Andrews) Winchester. In 1932, Althea graduated from Frenchtown School. She worked at several small industrial factories during World War II. In 1949, she started working at Owendale Automotive Industries where she met her husband, John. They were united in marriage May 24, 1952 and recently celebrated 51 years together. She was a member of the Colwood Church of United Brethren in Christ, Caro, for the last 10 years. She was a past member of the Owendale United Methodist Church. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and was involved in many other church activities most of her life. Her love for God was demonstrated by her love and service to her family, friends and church. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. She also enjoyed baking, cooking, helping on the farm, spending time with her grandchildren, and hosting family and friends. The family would like to thank United Hospice Service of Marlette for their wonderful supportive care the last three months, as well as family, friends, pastors and church family. She is survived by her husband, John, of Owendale; four children, Joseph Lorencz and his wife, Virginia, of Hayward, Calif., Cynthia Bennett and her husband, Douglas, of Dearborn, Michael Lorencz and his wife, Lynn, of Owendale, and Timothy Lorencz and his wife, Georgina, of Plymouth, Minn.; and 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Carlton Winchester of Cass City, William Winchester of Gagetown, and Gerald Winchester and his wife, Betty, of Gagetown; two sisters, Gwendolyn Sommers of Bad Axe and June Farnum and her husband, Willis, of Owendale; and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, John Winchester, C.L. Winchester, and James Winchester; four sisters, Norma Fournier, Beulah Hobart, Jane Hudson and infant sister Margaret. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2003, at the Colwood Church of the United Brethren in Christ, Caro, with the Rev. Phil Whipple, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Township Cemetery. (Bushey) Marquis, 91, of Chandler Township near Gotts Corner, died Friday morning, June 6, 2003, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. She was born Jan. 12, 1912 at the home of her parents, the late William and Clara (Jacobs) O'Connor in Chandler Township. Mrs. Marquis graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1929 and attended County Normal to receive her teaching certificate. She continued her education at Central Michigan University where she received her bachelor's degree in elementary education. On Nov. 19, 1932, she was united in marriage to Triefly Bushey at St. Felix Catholic Church in Pinnebog. He preceded her in death Aug. 2, 1966. She first taught in several rural schools and then at Elkton and Caseville, retiring in 1973 after 36 years in education. After retiring, she began spending her winters in Florida. While there, she met Ralph Marquis. They married June 19, 1982, also at St. Felix. They made their summer home in Chandler Township and continued wintering in Florida until their health prevented it. Ralph preceded her in death Nov. 17 of last year. Vera was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church and Altar Society, Huron County Retired Teachers Association, past member of the Worthy Study Club and life member and past regent of the Daughters of Isabella, Bad Axe. She helped organize many bus tours through the country and enjoyed traveling in the states and Europe. She loved to sew, and found much joy in making things for her grandchildren. Surviving are two sons, Maurice Bushey and his wife, Catherine, and Louis Bushey and his wife, Yvonne, all of Caseville; 12 grandchildren, Mark, Maribeth, Jeff, T.L., Matthew, Linette, Janice, Eric, Renee, Jason, Brian and Mike; 18 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Dorothy Robins of Bradenton, Fla. Preceding her in death were a son, Dennis; a grandson, Todd; two brothers, Clayton and Bernard O'Connor; and two sisters, Margaret Hebert and Marie Bray. A funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2003, at St. Felix Catholic Church in Pinnebog. The Rev. Fr. Robert Shine and Sr. Mary Schwartz will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. A parish scripture service will be conducted at 7 tonight and a Daughters of Isabella Rosary service at 8:30 tonight at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Elkton. Friends may sign the guest book at www.CFCelkton.com. Sylvester Osantoski Sylvester Osantoski, 86, of Owendale, died Friday, June 6, 2003, in Covenant Health Care-Cooper in Saginaw. He was born April 28, 1917 in Parisville to Frank and Rose (Mazure) Osantoski. He married Virginia Bukowski on April 28, 1945 in Detroit. She died Jan. 2, 1994. Sylvester was born on his family's farm where his mother was also born. He met Virginia on a New Year's Eve blind date and worked in Detroit. He was a licensed builder and also farmed for 26 years and was a Ford Tractor Sales mechanic. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Spring Hill, Fla., where he lived for 13 years. He loved to work and help his neighbors and friends. Sylvester is survived by his sister, Virginia Ekquist, of Wilmington, Del., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; and siblings, Leo, Felix, Stanley, Mary, Albina, Lucy, Teresa and Frances. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City with the Rev. Elsa Pressentin of St. Paul's Episcopal Church officiating. Interment is in Roselawn Cemetery in Saginaw. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Rawson Memorial Library. Elizabeth Rutledge Elizabeth Rutledge, 93, a former longtime resident of Detroit, Frankenmuth and Mt. Clemens, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2003, in the Church of Christ Care Center in Clinton Township. Elizabeth was born in Glasgow, Scotland on Jan. 1, 1910, a daughter of the late George and Jean (Smart) McKinlay. Elizabeth immigrated to the U.S. through Canada, earning her passage by winning a scholarship awarded to children of the veterans of World War II. She was united in marriage to her late dear husband, Richard A. Rutledge Jr., on Dec. 31, 1929 in the Rutledge home in Detroit. The couple made their home in Detroit until 1953, moving to Mt. Clemens and living there until 1970. They moved to Frankenmuth and then to Fraser in 1993. She enjoyed the property owned in Light House Point in the Thumb area. She and her husband were charter members of the American Lutheran Church of Mt. Clemens, and she was a member of the McKenzie Clan. Elizabeth had worked as a sales clerk in the Pries Department Store in Mt. Clemens in her early years and later at the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth. She dedicated her life to her family and will be deeply missed by many. Elizabeth is survived by her loving children, Richard A. III, Elizabeth M. Owens and her husband, Robert, Patricia A. Gillett and her husband, Roger, and Malcolm T. and his wife, Patricia; her eight loving grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband on Sept. 1, 2002; brothers, William and Thomas; and a sister, Sarah. Bock, 76, of Cass City, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, in Northwood Meadows Dementia Care after a long illness. He was born March 9, 1927 at home in Pigeon to William and Johannah (Gettel) Bock. He married Irva M. Schulz on Oct. 2, 1948 in Linkville. Jerry was a dairy and crop farmer for most of his working life. He served on the Ambulance Board in Tuscola County for many years from its inception. Jerry served as Township Supervisor for Greenleaf Township for 22 years. He and his wife vacationed in Pineallas Park, Fla. for about 30 years. Jerry was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cass City. Albert Brashaw Albert Brashaw, 73, of Port Austin, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. He was born on Aug. 19, 1929 in Roseville, son of the late Venus and Ethel (Kirk) Brashaw. He enjoyed playing cards, bingo and making hook rugs. He is survived by two sisters, Betty Quick, of Port Sanilac and Eva Hubbard, of Port Austin. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Clancy and Catherine Schultz; two brothers, William and John Brashaw; and a half-brother, George Ottinger. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. Leona Kautz Leona S. Kautz, 87, of Port Hope, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 7, 2003, in St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, following a short illness. Born on May 23, 1916 in Port Hope, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Annabelle (Weston) Pawlitz. On Sept. 22, 1934, Leona and Max Kautz were united in marriage in Port Hope. Max preceded her in death on May 19, 1996. Leona was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope. She is survived by her children, Keith Kautz and his wife, Theresa, of Ferndale, Elwin Kautz and his wife, Jo Carol of Melvin and Marilyn Pleiness and her husband, Herman, of Brighton; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Pawlitz and his wife, Dorothy, of Port Hope and Kenneth Pawlitz and his wife, Eleanor, of Sterling Heights; a sister, Bernetta Allen, of Madison Heights; and several nieces and nephews. Mary Kiehl Mary Kiehl, 58, of Bad Axe, passed away at her home on Sunday, June 8, 2003, following a short illness. She was born on Oct. 19, 1944 in Elkton, daughter of the late Matthew and Amy (Carson) Jaworski. She married Edward T. Kiehl on April 27, 1968 in St. Columbkille Catholic Church. She worked at Voltron for nine years. McEachin, 68, of Sterling Heights, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2003, at her home in Sterling Heights. She was born on April 26, 1935 in Detroit to the late Conrad and Elizabeth Niester. Dorothy was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Lawrence Senior Citizens and Ladies Alter Society Utica Pioneers. She is survived by her children, Laurie Williams and her husband, James, of Sterling Heights, James McEachin and his wife, Heidi, of Fort Gratiot, Becky Kristin and her husband, Mike, of Macomb, Ronald McEachin and his wife, Holly, of Minden, La., and Charles McEachin and his wife, Alanna, of Utica; six grandchildren, Brianna, Isabella, James, Charley, Cassandra, and Brent; siblings, Conrad Niester, of Fenton, Bernard Niester, of Owendale, Jeanette Hinkle, of Whitelake, and Norma D'Angelo, of Waterford. Florabell Neiman Florabell Margaret Neiman, 78, of Cass City, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, in her home after a short illness. Interment is in Watrousville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to Family Discretionary Fund. Tuesday, June 10, 2003 Thyrsa Ramsey Thyrsa V. Ramsey, 88, of Harbor Beach, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2003, in the long term care unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital following a short illness. She was born on Feb. 3, 1915 in Sand Beach Township to the late Cecil and Nellie (Moran) McCullough. In 1931, she graduated from the Harbor Beach High School at age 16. She married Burton Ramsey on Oct. 2, 1938 in Harbor Beach. Together they founded the Ramsey Funeral Home in 1948, where she enjoyed working for 55 years. Burton preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 1989. Thyrsa was an active member in the American Legion Auxiliary of Post 197 in Harbor Beach, the Harbor Beach Woman's Club, and faithfully attended the First Baptist Church for more than 75 years. She enjoyed eating out with friends, knitting booties and sweaters and being with her grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and family. She is survived by her daughter, Karen McConnell and her husband, Neil, of Fort Gratiot; her son, Warren Ramsey and his wife, Arlene, of Harbor Beach; grandchildren, Mark McConnell and his wife, Kim, Cheryl Johnson and her husband, Greg, Dawn McConnell, and Ryan, Ross, Shaun and Clark Ramsey; great- grandchildren, Jonathan, Luke, and Evan McConnell and Erin, Holly and Seth Johnson. Carl Stier Carl Joseph Stier, 78, of Sebewaing, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Tendercare of Cass City. He was born in Indianapolis, Ind. on March 28, 1925, son of the late Leo and Alma (Spitznagle) Stier. He served with the United States Army as a medic in the European Theater during World War II. On Aug. 16, 1947, he was united in marriage to Luella E. Kuehn at Bowling Green, Ohio. She preceded him in death on Aug. 13, 1995. Mr. Stier worked as an engineer with the Chrysler Corporation in Highland Park for 40 years. He retired and moved to Huron County in 1987. He enjoyed fishing, and collecting stamps and miniature automobiles. He was a life member of the V.F.W. in St. Clair Shores, and a member of the American Legion No. 293 in Sebewaing. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Sebewaing. He is survived by seven children, Robert Stier and his wife, Janice, of Shelby, Diane Thielman and her husband, Ron, of Clinton Township, Donna Maxwell, of Clinton Township, Debra Williams, of Harrison Township, Denise Stier, of Harrison Township, Dawn Gora, of Sebewaing, and Ronald Stier, of Warren; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Harold Stier; a sister, Doris McNulty; and two grandchildren, April and Keith Gora. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2003, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Sebewaing, with Fr. George Serour, pastor, and Fr. James McNulty officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home, Inc. in Sebewaing and from 10 a.m. until the time of mass at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Terry Tageson Terry L. Tageson, 63, passed away on May 29, 2003. Terry proudly served as a City of Milwaukee police motorcycle officer for 31 years, retiring in 1994. He served in the US Navy and was a member of the Wilson Park Wood Carvers Assoc. and Breakfast Buddy. He was the biggest fan of the Great Circus Parade and was a behind the scenes friend to the clowns and senior P.I.T.A. He is survived by his wife, Beverly M. (nee Fedder); children, Lisa Triscari and her husband, Robert, Julie Terrill and her husband, Pat, Michael Tageson, Kelly Edwards and her husband, Michael, Susan Sands and her husband, Michael, William Tageson and his wife, Kristen, and David Tageson and his wife, Julie; grandchildren, Timothy and Andrew Triscari, Brian and Katelyn Terrill, Michael, Alyssa and Matthew Edwards, Brittany and Lindsay Sands, John Terry "J.T." and Savannah Tageson; brothers, Thomas Tageson and his wife, Virginia, of Bad Axe, William Tageson and his wife, Elizabeth, of California; brother-in-law, James Fedder and his wife, Caroline; an aunt; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Wednesday, June 11, 2003 David Dickinson David E. Dickinson, 71, of Harbor Beach, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2003, in Brian's House of Essexville following a brief illness. Born in Harbor Beach on July 28, 1931, he was the son of Beatrice (Ganley) Dickinson and the late Earl Dickinson. Dave was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired employee of the City of Harbor Beach serving as the city administrator for 39 years, retiring in 1993. He served on many committees with the City including the Marina Authority, the Board of Review, and the Grice Museum. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 197 of Harbor Beach, a member of the Harbor Beach Fire Department for 25 years, and the Michigan United Conservation Club of which he held offices locally and regionally. David was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his children, Wayne Dickinson and his wife, Marge, of Marquette, Kelly Ingalls and her husband, Bill, of Quilcene, Wash., and Merrie Dickinson, of Santa Rose, Calif.; five grandchildren; his mother, Beatrice Dickinson, of Harbor Beach; brother, Larry Dickinson and his wife, Florence, of Harbor Beach; sister, Doris Brown and her husband, Don, of Harbor Beach. Funeral services will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2003, in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach, with the Rev. Elsa Pressentin, pastor of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Bad Axe, officiating. Cremation will follow at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to the time of the services on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Hospital or Brian's House. Lyle Grigg Lyle W. Grigg, 73, passed away on Monday June 9, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. He was born in Bay City on July 9, 1929 to Earl and Delia (Mielens) Grigg. He married Pauline E. (Schoenfeld) Grigg on April 23, 1960. A lifelong farmer, Lyle founded Bayside Seeds, LLC. He was a member of the Professional Seedman's Association. He was a member of Trinity St. James Lutheran Church in Munger where he had served in many capacities including elder and chairman. In his younger days, he was an avid softball player and in later years, he enjoyed golf. He was a devoted husband, cherished father and grandfather, and beloved son and brother. He is survived by his wife, Pauline E. Grigg; three daughters, Robin Walters, of Albion, Lori Lalas and her husband, Evans, of Charlotte, N.C., Gail Dockery and her husband, James, of Munger; five grandchildren, Alexandra Walters, Brent and Devan Lalas, Justin and Noah Dockery; his father, Earl Grigg, of Cass City; sister, Betty Fuller and her husband, Darrell, of Caro; brother, Neal Grigg and his wife, Sharon, of Munger. He was preceded in death by his mother, Delia; and a brother, Eldon. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2003, at Trinity St. James Lutheran Church, 119 E. Munger Rd. Thursday, June 12, 2003 Theresa Glaza Theresa Monica (Buchkowski) Glaza, 84, of Ruth, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, in her home following a three month battle with cancer. She was born on Oct. 7, 1918 at the home of her parents, the late Joseph and Mary (Kulish) Buchkowski. She attended Maurer School, Paris District No. 3, and graduated on June 3, 1932. On Oct. 12, 1940, she was united in marriage to Stanley Fabian Glaza at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville where she had been a life long member until her death. They were married for 56 years and lived and worked side by side on their centennial farm until they retired in 1984. She was a member of the St. Mary's Rosary Sodality. She enjoyed quilting, vegetable gardening and flower gardening. She always looked forward to visits from children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her five children, Mildred Block and her husband, Kenneth, of Lexington, Eleanor Shaw, of Ann Arbor, Richard Glaza and his wife, Roxie, of Shelby Township, Lillian Abrams and her husband, William, of Owosso, and Carl Glaza, of Jackson; 12 grandchildren, Ronald, Ernest, Randolph, and Kenneth Jr. Block, Cynthia Davis, Patrick Shaw, Teresa McPherson, Ricky Boyd, Amber Palinski, Shawn and William Abrams, Nicholas Glaza; ten great-grandchildren, Alena Schneider, Cassandra and Jarrett Block, Regina and Adam Block, Matthew and Jordan Block, Amanda Boyd, Austin and Ashley Abrams; four sisters, Emma Fisher, of Ubly, Bernice Ignash, of Port Huron, Marie Krozek, of Ubly and Matilda Particka, of Bad Axe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, on June 5, 1997; five sisters, Isabella Swartz-Weisenberger, Sophia Susalla, Albena Maurer, Gertrude Susalla-Messing, Josephine Miller; two brothers, Alosie Buchkowski and Joseph Buchkowski Jr. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2003, at St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville.
