Sunday, November 9, 2003 Georgene Lane Georgene Bell Lane, 87, a 45-year resident of Birmingham, died Thursday, November 6, 2003 at her home. Georgene was born May 23, 1916 to the late George and Mary (Jaross) Cleaver in the "Crawford House" which is now the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville. She's returning home for her final resting. In 1939, she married Paul Gutschlag and had two children, Susan and Paul. Georgene later married Harold Lane; he preceded her in death. She was employed for 19 years as an executive secretary for Acme Manufacturing of Ferndale and later worked for 12 years as a legal secretary for several firms before retiring in 1965. Surviving are her daughter, Susan M. Carroll, of Royal Oak; son, Paul Gutschlag, of Ann Arbor; three grandchildren, Kenneth P. Carroll, Timothy J. Carroll, Krystal S. Carroll; two great-grandchildren, Thomas J. Carroll and Andrew P. Carroll; a sister, Florence Schuman, of Sand Point. Funeral services will be at noon on Monday, November 10, 2003, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Caseville. Burial will be in the Caseville Township Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice. Stella Shaddock Stella I. Shaddock, 90, of Port Austin, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2003, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born on June 13, 1913 in Port Austin, daughter of the late Jacob and Nellie (Strozeski) Navock. She and Albert Shaddock were married on November 4, 1931 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. The Rev. Alfonse Kromka officiated. Albert preceded her in death on February 22, 1989. Stella was a life-long resident of Port Austin and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. She worked at Port Austin Level and Tool for 28 years until retiring in 1975. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, knitting and crocheting. She was also an avid bird watcher and loved to do crossword puzzles and spend time with her family and friends. There will be a vigil at 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Donald Shaw Donald Richard Shaw, 66, lifelong resident of Sheridan Township, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2003, at his home. He was born June 25, 1937 in Sheridan Township, the son of the late Alex Richard and Luella (Errer) Shaw. Donald married Judy VanHevel on November 14, 1959. She survives him. Mr. Shaw was a lifelong farmer. He was a great father who loved his grandchildren. He graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1955. He was a member of the Popple Trailblazers Club and the Dairy Improvement Board. Donald was a NASCAR fan who enjoyed racing at Owendale Speedway, dancing, woodworking, traveling and camping. Ruppal, Sr., 75, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 9, 2003, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was born on March 16, 1928 to John and Millie (Fischer) Ruppal in Akron. He married Genevieve Petiprin on August 25, 1945 in Sebewaing. Donald enjoyed spending time at his summer place in Port Austin, deer hunting, bowling and spending time with his family. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 58 years, Genevieve, of Akron; ten children, Gary Ruppal, of San Jose, California, Marsha Gordon and her husband, Lee, of San Marcos, California, Richard Ruppal and his wife, Vicky, of Mt. John VanValkenburgh John G. VanValkenburgh, 34, of Chandler Township, died Saturday evening, November 8, 2003, near his home from injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was born on March 22, 1969 to the late Jack and Evelyn (Perkins) Morin in Pigeon. John graduated from Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port High School in 1988. A short time later he moved to Texas where he worked in construction. In 1998, he moved back to the Pinnebog area and was currently employed by Thompson Builders in Sandusky. He enjoyed the out of doors especially deer hunting, he was also an avid pool player. John was charismatic and enjoyed the company of his friends and especially his family. Tuesday, November 11, 2003 Thomas Pecha Thomas V. Pecha, 96, of Caseville, died Sunday afternoon, November 9, 2003, at Scheurer Hospital, Pigeon. He was born July 23, 1907 to the late Alexander and Josephine (Mayie) Pecha in Detroit. On June 4, 1930, he was united in marriage to Beatrice E. Fitzgibbon at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Detroit. She preceded him in death on March 1, 1990. Thomas worked as a process engineer at Fruehauf Trailer Company for 33 years retiring in 1965. Shortly after, they moved to Lake Township where they had vacationed in the summer since the mid-1940s. He was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church, Eagles Club and Caseville Retirement Club. Surviving are two daughters, Therese "Terri" Talaski and her husband, Thomas, of Rapson and Patricia Fancher and her friend, Jim McCallum, of Caseville; seven grandchildren, Chips, Scott, Linda, Karen, Kim, Tom, and Michelle; ten great- grandchildren, Chadman, Brandon, Dana, Danielle, Breanna, Kevin, Derek, Kendra, Dylan, and Katy; two brothers, George Pecha and his wife, Monica, of Warren, and Robert Pecha and his wife, Bette, of Bradenton, Florida and many nieces and nephews. Wednesday, November 12, 2003 Agnes Bugenski Agnes A. Bugenski, 91, of Dwight Township, died Monday, November 10, 2003, at the Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. She was born on September 3, 1912 in Huron City, daughter of the late John and Martha (Leavine) Horetski. Agnes married Ignatz Bugenski on November 7, 1931. He preceded her in death on August 9, 1965. Agnes was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Agnes is survived by seven children, Geraldine Leavine and her husband, Edward, of Port Austin, Dorothy Heleski and her husband, Stanley, of Ubly, Gerald Bugenski and his wife, Patricia, of Rochester Hills, Robert Bugenski, of Port Austin, Richard Bugenski, of Port Austin, Willard Bugenski and his wife, Marlene, of Mayville, and Kenneth Bugenski and his wife, Marjorie, of Port Austin; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and sister, Gertrude Horetski. Liwienski, 74, of Caseville, died Monday evening, November 10, 2003, at Scheurer Hospital following a severe heart attack. He was born on July 28, 1929 in Detroit to the late Martin and Ursula (Misiak) Liwienski. After Cass graduated from North Eastern High School, he joined the Army and served during the Korean War. Upon his return home, he worked with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring as a dispatcher in 1984 with 32 years of service. Shortly after retiring, he moved to Caseville where he and his family had been coming since the early 1960s. Cass was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church of Caseville, the Caseville Eagles Club and the Frank Horetski American Legion Post No. 499 in Port Austin. He was very talented with stained glass, making windows, lamp shades and ornaments. He also enjoyed gardening, golf, bowling and all of the Detroit sports teams. Surviving are his brother, Ted Liwienski, of Caseville; sister, Sophia Szajna and her husband, Edmund, of Brooksville, Florida, and many nieces and nephews, who all thought of him as a second father. He was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Leiman; and a brother, Henry Liwienski. A funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2003, at St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville. Baur, 86, of Sebewaing, died Wednesday afternoon, November 12, 2003, at The Carriage House in Bay City following a seven-month illness. She was born April 25, 1917 in Sebewaing, daughter of the late Adolph and Anna (Gall) Neuman. She was united in marriage to Rudolph Baur on April 5, 1941 in Sebewaing. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1963. Elsie was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. She is survived by one son, Curtis Baur and his wife, Pat, of Sebewaing; daughter-in-law, Ellen Baur, of Richmond, Virginia; six grandchildren, Teresa Baur, Laurie Baur, Kevin Baur, Jamie Baur, Julie Robertson, Dawn Miller; great-grandchildren, Latricia, Mitch and Leslie Miller, and Madison Baur; one sister, Ruth Neuman, of Sebewaing; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Gerald R. Baur, in 1985; one grandson, Paul LaPorte; three brothers, Walter, Albert and Edgar Neuman; and two sisters, Thelma Neuman and Esther Scheiwe. Agnes Kosal Agnes Matilda Kosal, 87, of Ruth, passed away Wednesday morning, November 12, 2003, at Harbor Beach Long Term Care Facility. Agnes was born April 22, 1916 in Ruth to the late August and Caroline (Hunsanger) Gentner. She married Armean Kosal on November 6, 1933, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. He preceded her in death on November 21, 1976. Agnes was a life long member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth where she was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Christian Mothers for many years. She enjoyed quilting, and baking cookies and pies. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 9:30 p.m. today and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Arthur Malpass Arthur J. Malpass, 78, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2003. He was born April 18, 1925 to Thomas and Clara (Watterworth) Malpass in Caseville. He attended Caseville and Pigeon schools. In 1942, he enlisted in the Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees) serving in the South Pacific until 1945. He married E. Joy Cleaver in Caseville in 1946. Art worked in construction all of his life building many homes and commercial buildings in Huron and Midland counties. He also owned Malpass Storage of Caseville. He is survived by his wife, E. Joy Malpass, of Midland; one daughter, Sandy Ittner and her husband, Tom, of Midland; sons, Richard Malpass and his wife, Lisa, of Simpsonville, South Carolina and Rodney Malpass of Chicago, Illinois; three grandchildren, Anjelica Ittner, Drake and Loriann Malpass. He was predeceased by four brothers, and four sisters. By request cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2003, from the Ware-Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 Wheeler Street in Midland. McPhail, 60, of Owendale, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, November 11, 2003, due to injuries received in an elevator accident in Owendale. He was born October 19, 1943 in Cass City, son of Vernita R. (Wissner) McPhail and the late Daniel J. McPhail. He was a 1961 graduate of the Owendale High School. He was united in marriage to Joan M. Fritz on June 18, 1966 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linkville. Bob had been employed at the K.B.C. Elevator in Owendale for 30 years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linkville, was the Brookfield Township treasurer for the past 27 years. He also has been on the Owendale Fire Department for the past 39 years of which six years he served as fire chief. He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Lauren; all high school sports; the Owendale Speedway and was an avid woodworker. Surviving are his wife, Joan McPhail, of Owendale; one daughter, Michelle O'Hern and her husband, Andrew, of Portage; one granddaughter, Lauren; his mother, Vernita McPhail, of Owendale; four brothers and one sister, Daryl McPhail and his wife, Faith, of St. Charles, Charles McPhail and his wife, Lynn, of Houston, Texas, Thomas McPhail and his wife, Elaine, Kathryn Heyl and her husband, Sidney, all of Bay City, and David McPhail, of Jackson; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Leipprandt, 63, of Caseville passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2003, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. Friday, November 14, 2003 Ida Bucholtz Ida L. Bucholtz, 89, of Port Hope, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2003, in the long term care unit of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born in Port Hope on December 23, 1913, she was the daughter of the late William and Mahale (Rothwell) McKim. On October 27, 1930, Ida and William Bucholtz were united in marriage in Toledo, Ohio. Together they operated the IGA Store and Locker Plant in Port Hope, the 4 Corners Hardware in Lewisville along with the dealerships of Minneapolis-Molene tractors and Studebaker Cars. William preceded her in death on June 18, 1992. Ida was a member of St. John Lutheran church in Port Hope and was a member of the Ladies Aid, Ladies Auxiliary and the Sewing Circle. She also was a member of the Port Hope Retirees Club. She is survived by her children: William Bucholtz, of Florida, Karen Lemanski, of Port Hope, Connie Wilkowski and her husband, Dennis, of Port Hope, and Gerald Bucholtz and his wife, Mary Ann, of Port Hope; 18 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Ida was preceded in death by two brothers; Calvin and Stanley McKim; and by seven sisters, Annie Shepard, Hattie Wellock, Helen Frank, Betty Richards, Rella Downey, Tillie Rothwell and Lillian Dodge. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2003, at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope with the Rev. Gregory Eilers officiating. Burial will be in the New River Cemetery in Huron City. A scripture service will be at 7:30 tonight at the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach, where visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from noon until the time of service Saturday at the church. Carol Leipprandt Carol Ann Leipprandt, 63, of Caseville, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2003, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. She was born in Detroit on March 29, 1940, the daughter of the late Lewis H. and Lottie Caroline (Brooks) Miller, and attended Cooley High School in Detroit through the 12th grade. On August 23, 1980 she was united in marriage to Donald C. Leipprandt at the Elkton United Methodist Church. He survives her. Mrs. Leipprandt worked at the Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care for 11 years, retiring in 2001. Prior to that, she had worked in local grocery stores for over 30 years. She was a member of the Caseville F.O.E. 3690 Auxiliary. In addition to her husband, Donald, she is survived by her children and grandchildren: Barb Bruce, of Elkton, and her children, Justin, Matt and Tim; David and Sheila McBride, of Pigeon, and their children, Ryan and Brett; Scott McBride and Billy Mieldazis, of Palm Desert, California; Annette McBride, of Houghton and her child, Ashley Licht; Heather and Pete Drabek, of Bad Axe and their children, Maegan and Nicole; Scott and Debbie Leipprandt, of Fort Worth, Texas and their children, Brian and Christy; Bill and Deborah Leipprandt, of Warner Robins, Georgia., and their children Brandon and Alexandria; Connie and Ted Shelton, of Indianapolis, Indiana, and their children, Katie Beth and Sam; her sisters and brothers, Gerald and Evelyn Miller, of California, Marilyn and Jack Wallace, of Arizona, Donald and Marjorie Miller and Shirley and Richard Honaker, of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Charolette Kummer; her brother, Lewis Miller; and a son-in-law, Don Bruce. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2003, at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home of Pigeon, with the Rev. Raymond E. Orth officiating. Following cremation, interment will take place at Grand Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home of Pigeon from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Ednamae Ault Ednamae Ault, 72, of Petersburg, passed away on Thursday morning, November 13, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Ann Arbor following a three and a half year illness. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2003, at the Allore Funeral Home, 203 E. Elm Ave., in Monroe. Burial will be in Pleasantview Cemetery in Petersburg. Visitation will take place from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Michigan Foundation of Guillian-Barre Disease.
