Sunday, November 16, 2003 Ednamae Ault Ednamae Ault, 72, of Petersburg, passed away Thursday morning, November 13, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Ann Arbor following a three and a half year illness. Ednamae was born May 16, 1931 in Caro to Howard and Alvina (Franzel) Mitz. She married Alvin Ault on November 22, 1947 in Ida. Ednamae was a homemaker. She was a member of the Stewart Road Church of God, past president of Women's Aglow of Monroe County, and she enjoyed crafts, making dolls and crocheting. Ednamae is survived by her husband, Alvin, Sr.; four sons, Alvin Ault, Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Petersburg, Michael Ault, of Monroe, Daniel Ault and his wife, Linda Sue, of Bad Axe, and David Ault, of Petersburg; two daughters, Audrey Cunningham, of Atlanta, Georgia., and Eileen Ward- Robb, of Alberta, Canada; a brother, Howard Mitz and his wife, Jeannie, of Otisville; a sister, Helen Ault-Helotes, of Texas; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Warren Ault, in 1977; a grandson, Jimmy Cox, in 1997; and a brother, Jack Mitz. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2003, at the Allore Funeral Home, 203 E. Elm Ave., in Monroe. The Rev. Dr. Joseph Byrd will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasantview Cemetery in Petersburg. Visitation will take place from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Michigan Foundation of Guillian-Barre Disease. Patricia McLeod Patricia A McLeod, 73, former Detroiter, died Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. Patricia was the beloved wife of John McLeod, mother of Christy A. Dolunt, of Livonia, Kim L. Penman, of Wyandotte, and John and his wife, Val, of Garden City. She also is survived by her sister, Sue Lingle, of Howell; four grandchildren, Jason and his wife, Shelly, of Hokenwold, Tennessee, Justin, of San Carlos, California, and Charles and Edward Penman, of Wyandotte; and a great- grandson, Zachary, of Linden, Tennessee. In accordance with Patricia's personal wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place in the Detroit area. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association or to a charity of the donor's choice. Esther O'Connor Esther M. O'Connor, 84, of Harbor Beach, passed away unexpectedly Friday, November 14, 2003, in West Branch Hospital. Born in Harbor Beach on June 13, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Margaret (McCullough) Wilson. On January 8, 1947, Esther and James O'Connor were united in marriage in Ruth. They were foster care parents for many years. James preceded her in death on June 27, 1977. Esther was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was the church clerk, Sunday school teacher and secretary. She also was a member of the American Legion of Harbor Beach. Esther enjoyed painting, quilting and crocheting. She is survived by her children: Charles O'Connor and his wife, Lee, of Rose City, Kathleen Braun and her husband, Gary, of Lakeland, Florida, and Mary O'Connor, of Bad Axe; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Ina Mae Cregeur and her husband, James, of Harbor Beach. Esther was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine O'Connor, in 1992; and by three sisters, Betty Eernesse, Alberta Ayotte and Peg Veldman; and a brother, William Wilson. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2003, in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach, with the Rev. Andrew Willis, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Memorials may be given to the Harbor Beach Lighthouse Preservation, Harbor Beach Hospital, or American Cancer Society. Monday, November 17, 2003 Richard Marks Richard E. Marks, 68, of Bad Axe, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 16, 2003, at the Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. He was born on September 15, 1935 in Bad Axe, son of the late Ellis and Nellie (Coppinger) Marks. He married Patricia Lesecki in June 1956 in Bad Axe. She preceded him in death on November 13, 2000. Mr. Marks was a plant manager at the former OxyChemical Co. in Bad Axe and was the former owner of the Ubly's Party Store in Ubly. He was a former member of the Bad Axe Eagle's Club and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by two sons, Russell Marks and his wife, Deborah, of Ubly, Richard Marks and his wife, Charlene, of Ubly; one daughter, Alaina Harwood and her husband, Dale, of Marlette; two sisters, Elaine DeGrandt, of Bad Axe, Carol Clark and her husband, Donald, of Bad Axe; 10 grandchildren, Brian, Ashley, Ryan, R.J., Amanda, and Alyssa Marks, of Ubly, Angie Fabyan, of West Palm Beach, Florida., and Jeremy, Jeff and Jesse Harwood, of Marlette. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ronald, Sidney, Jerry and Harry Marks; three sisters, Shirley Shaltonis, Dorothey Dahm and Delores Chamberlane. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Burial will be in Colfax Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the service time at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Tuesday, November 18, 2003 Clifford Jacoby Clifford H. Jacoby, 65, of Akron, died Sunday evening, November 16, 2003, at his home following a five-month illness. He was born May 7, 1938 in Unionville, son of Henry and Lydia (Balzer) Jacoby. He was united in marriage to Carolyn K. Adamczyk on June 16, 1962 in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville. Clifford was a farmer in the Akron area for many years, was employed at Herter Music Center in Bay City and also was co- owner of the A & W Restaurant in the Bay City Mall. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville, served as an elder, taught adult Bible class, was on the Thumb Gospel Convention Committee and also sang with the Praise Quartet for nine and a half years. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. Surviving besides his wife, Carolyn, are two daughters, Cathy Ruthenberg and her husband, Arno, of Owendale, Beth Kuhl and her husband, Philip, of Sebewaing; one son, Mark Jacoby and his wife, Deana, of Unionville; seven grandchildren, Zac and Jordan Ruthenberg, Laura, Leah and Lexi Kuhl, Amanda and Joshua Jacoby; parents, Henry and Lydia Jacoby, of Sebewaing; one sister, Dorothy Houthoofd and her husband, Erwin, of Akron; one brother, Jonathan Jacoby and his wife, Denise, of Millstadt, Illinois, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2003, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville. The Rev. Wednesday, November 19, 2003 Lucille Brian Lucille I. Brian, 90, of Ubly, died Thursday, November 13, 2003, at her home. She was born on April 8, 1913 in Ovid, daughter of the late Joseph and Freeda (Bennett) Gifford. Lucille married William H. Brian on October 30, 1934 in Hazel Park. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1994. Lucille was a member of the Eastern Stars. She enjoyed camping, sewing and knitting. Lucille is survived by her son, William Brian and his wife, Donna, of Detroit; two daughters, Karen Welch and her husband, David, of Florida and Barbara Schroeder, of Bad Axe; three grandchildren, David Schroeder and his wife, Jane, of Connecticut, Sandra Epperson and her husband, Mike, of Ohio, and Robert Quick and his wife, Julie, of Schwartz Creek; two step-grandchildren, Scott and Kevin Welch, both of Davison; and seven great-grandchildren; niece, Jane Allstetter and her husband, Steve, of Lupton; grand-niece, Sara Allstetter; and sister-in-law, Gladys Davis, of West Branch. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Kelly Quick. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 21, 2003, at Christ Church, 960 E. Jefferson, in Detroit. Officiating will be Fr. Bill Fleming and Fr. Philip Jackson. Alfred Lowell E. Alfred Lowell, 90, of Ubly, passed away peacefully, Tuesday morning, November 18, 2003, at Huron Medical Center of Bad Axe after a long illness. Alfred was born March 2, 1913 in Maple Grove to the late George and Gertrude (Moore) Lowell. His ancestry is traced back to Sir Percival Lowell in eighteenth century England. He married Lillian P. Noren on November 23, 1939 in Nashville. Alfred attended schools in Barry County and was a 1930 graduate of Nashville High School. After graduation, he worked several jobs during the Great Depression, including two years in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Upper Peninsula. In the CC Corps, he saved enough money to attend Davenport Business School in Grand Rapids. Alfred first worked for REA of Portland, before accepting a position in 1940 as an accountant with Thumb Electric Co-op in Ubly. Later he served as office manager until his retirement in 1978. Alfred also had a consultant/tax preparer business, "Lowell Tax Service," for more than 40 years until his final retirement in 1992. Alfred quietly served his community in Ubly as the school board secretary/treasurer for 20 years. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star, Ubly Miriam Chapter #214, as well as a member and former treasurer of the Ubly Community Club. Alfred performed in the "Alabama Jubilee" series, as a member of the Ubly Bells, during the late 50s and early 60s. More recently, he was a charter member of the Ubly Historical Society. He attended the Ubly First Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed the great outdoors and his many treks through the woods with his family. He also participated in the annual deer hunting season and was an avid golfer until the year 2000, when his health no longer permitted him to participate. He enjoyed golf, bowling, hunting, hiking, traveling, community service and stamp collecting. Alfred is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lillian, of Ubly; one son, Richard Lowell and his wife, Rosa, of Reston, Virginia.; two daughters, Carolyn Geiger and her husband, Ken, of Chestnut Ridge, New York, Diane Zobl, of Shelby Township; six grandchildren, Alan Lowell, of Reston, Virginia., Marcia Geiger Smith (Courtney II) of Cranford, New Jersey, Stephen Geiger (Leslie) of St. Petersburg, Florida., Michelle Geiger of Chestnut Ridge, New York, Kelly Zobl, of Shelby Township, Daniel Zobl, of Sterling Heights; four great-grandsons, Courtney III, George, and Phillip Smith of Cranford, New Jersey, Zachary Geiger, of St. Petersburg, Florida. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marsha Lowell; one granddaughter, Yvonne Lowell; three sisters, Inez Brimhall, Lillian Kromdyk, and Margaret Cox. Berger, 48, of Harbor Beach, passed away Wednesday morning, November 19, 2003, under hospice care in the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. Born in Detroit on October 12, 1955, she was the daughter of the late John and Carmella (Lucido) Palumbo. On September 9, 1972, Tina and David Berger were united in marriage in Detroit. Tina was a former employee of the Harbor Beach Marina and she was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lake Huron Church in Harbor Beach. She is survived by her husband, David Berger, of Harbor Beach; children, Creg Berger, of Deckerville, Carrie Berger, of Warren, Michael Berger and his wife, Melissa, of Warren, Jillian Berger, of Mount Pleasant, and Elizabeth Berger, of Harbor Beach; one grandson, Domincus John Berger; one brother, Alfred Palumbo, of Detroit; and sister, Marietta Pruitt, of Roseville. Carlyle Everett Carlyle William Everett, 88, of Kingston, died Tuesday, November 18, 2003, in TriCounty Extended Care Center of Fairfield, Ohio after a long illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2003, in Kingston United Methodist Church, Kingston, with the Rev. Terry Butters officiating. Raymond Stachura Raymond J. Stachura, 67, of Deford, died Wednesday, November 19, 2003, in his home. Friday, November 21, 2003 Veronica Clancy Veronica Grace Clancy, 88, resident of Port Austin, died Wednesday morning, November 19, 2003, at Tendercare in Cass City after a long illness. She was born July 9, 1915 in Hume Township, daughter of the late John and Mayme (Weiss) Clancy. Veronica graduated from Kinde High School in 1931. She had lived many years in Rochester, where she was employed at National Twist Drill. She was very active at St. Andrews Catholic Church there. She was currently a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church of Port Austin. Reading was a favorite hobby. Ms. Clancy is survived by one brother, Patrick Joseph Clancy and his wife, Arlene, of Clarkston; two sisters, Theresa Ahearn, of Midland, Bernice Krist, of Berea, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Isabelle Clancy, of Lapeer; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Bernard Clancy, of Port Austin and Charles Clancy, of Lapeer; two sisters, Marie Gemoules and her husband, Raymond, of Florida., Edna LaBelle and her husband, Bill, of Westland; one brother-in-law, Francis Ahearn, of Midland. Memorials may be offered to St. Michael's Catholic Church. Hazel Jurges Hazel M. Jurges, 90, of Bingham Township, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2003, at the Huron Medical Care Facility. She was born on November 20, 1913 in Redman, daughter of the late David George and Margaret (Daws) Matthews. She married Earl Jurges on November 20, 1934, in the manse of the Port Hope United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on September 9, 1987. Mrs. Jurges graduated in 1931 from Bad Axe High School. She received her BS Degree in Education from Central Michigan University. Using her career in education, she taught 13 years in three different country schools, and spent 10 years teaching sixth grade in the Elkton Elementary School. She was a member of the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church for 64 years, where she also taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Michigan Retired Teacher's Association. She is survived by one son, Duane Jurges and his wife, Mary B., of Bad Axe; two daughters, Jeanne Grobbel and her husband, Gilbert, of Ann Arbor, and Diane Zook and her husband, Robert, of Columbus, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Elsie Matthews, of Bad Axe; ten grandchildren, Timothy Jurges and his wife, Debra, of Bad Axe, John J. Sophia Fox Sophia Rosella Fox, 97, resident of Kinde, died Thursday evening, November 20, 2003, at Harbor Beach Community Hospital Long Term Care. Arrangements are incomplete at this time.
