Roe, 84, of Port Richey, Fla., died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 12, 2003, in New Port Richey, Fla. He was born on Aug. 27, 1918 in Gagetown, son of the late Gordon P. Roe and Adiah (Herrington) Roe. Gordon married Lillian F. Zapfe on Sept. 3, 1937 in Bay Port. After serving in the U.S. Army/Air Force during World War II, he continued to work for his father's family business until he purchased "Roe Film Service" in 1948. Gordon and Lillian enjoyed several years of traveling the United States until they settled in Port Richey, Fla. in 1988. Gordon enjoyed being a part of the Jasmine Lakes evening patrol, participating in the club activities and playing canasta. He was known in the neighborhood as the one who rode his bike daily and never met a stranger who didn't become a friend. He is survived by his wife, Lillian, of 65 years; three children, Avon M. Kent, of Bad Axe, Gordon Dennis Roe, of Saginaw, Cathy J. Torres and her husband, George, of Fort Worth, Texas; eight grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; five siblings, Eva Andress and her husband, J.D., of Caro, Bill Roe and his wife, Dorothy, of Pigeon, Bob Roe and his special friend, Jo Frank, of Saginaw, Earl Roe and his wife, Jeanine, of Kalkaska, Dorothy Radabaugh and her husband, Paul, of Owendale; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by three siblings, Clayton, Latheira and Donald. Funeral arrangements and services were handled by Prevatt Funeral Home and cremation in Hudson, Fla. Emily Kula Emily S. Kula, 36, of Port Austin, died Friday afternoon, May 16, 2003, at her home several months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was born Feb. 28, 1967 in Pigeon to Emil Heck and the late Fern Heck. Emily grew up on a farm south of Elkton and graduated from EPBP High School in 1985. On May 7, 1987, she was united in marriage to Richard A. Kula at her parents home south of Elkton. Emily provided in- home care for the elderly for a number of years while raising her own family. In November 1997, they moved from Elkton to the Port Austin area. She was a wonderful and talented painter, putting her brush to the canvas, ceramics, and crafts. She also enjoyed being on the airwaves: her handle on the CB was Cougar. Surviving are her husband, Rick; three children at home, Jennifer, 13, Richard, 8, and Megan, 4; her father, Emil Heck and his wife, Catherine, of Ubly; two brothers, Michael Heck, of Kinde, and William Heck, of Elkton; her sister, Anna King and her husband, Dave, of Elkton; five nieces and nephews, Ann, Justin, Annettamarie, Allisa, and Brinn. Also surviving are six stepbrothers, Charles Melnik, of Long Lake, James Melnik, of Unionville, Don Melnik and his wife, Michelle, of Bad Axe, Ron Melnik and his wife, Cindy, of Ubly, Gary Melnik and his wife, Brenda, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Kenneth Melnik and his wife, Leslie, of Birch Run; two stepsisters, Patricia Cole and her husband, Ray, of Lakeville, Ind., and Maureen Gentner and her husband, David, of Mayville; and 20 step-nieces and step-nephews. "Father Mac" McEachin, 81, of Venice, Fla., died Friday, May 16, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Cornelius was born June 6, 1921 in Bad Axe, the son of John J. and Isabel (McMillan) McEachin. He attended Sacred Heart High School and College Seminary in Detroit. He studied theology at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Norwood, Ohio. On May 22, 1948, he was ordained a priest at St. Mary Cathedral by Bishop William F. Murphy, the first bishop of Saginaw. Following ordination, he served in the following parishes: St. Brigid, Midland; St. Patrick, Croswell; St. John, Peck; Our Lady of Lake Huron, Harbor Beach; St. John Chrysostom, Forestville; St. James, Bay City; Sacred Heart, Mount Pleasant; and St. Anne, Linwood. Cornelius is survived by one sister, Flora Parker and her husband, Robert, of Ann Arbor; two sisters-in-law, Delphine McEachin, of Ubly, and Dorothy McEachin, of Sterling Heights; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, John, Ray, Jim, Charles, and Angus; and one sister, Mary Louise McEachin. Visitation will begin at Sacred Heart Church in Mount Pleasant from 6 to 8 p.m. today with a vigil service beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at St. John Vianney Church in Saginaw with a prayer service beginning at 8 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Saginaw with Bishop Kenneth Untener officiating. Lucjan Zlotkowski Lucjan Zlotkowski, 91, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2003. Monday, May 19, 2003 Delores DeGrow Delores June (Gotthardt) DeGrow, 75, of North Branch, died May 18, 2003, at McLaren Regional Hospital. Delores was born on June 13, 1927 in Birmingham, Mich. She was the daughter of Carl and Florence (Errer) Vollmer. Delores graduated from Pigeon High School in 1944. She lived in Pigeon from 1933 to 1960. Delores married Maynard DeGrow on Dec. 10, 1960 in St. John's Lutheran Church in Berne, and then moved to North Branch. The vast majority of her life was spent as a loving homemaker. She was a member of the North Branch First United Methodist Church, where she held many offices. Delores held office of secretary and treasurer in Port Huron District United Methodist Women. She presently was the treasurer of the North Branch United Methodist Women Unit. Delores was a member of the North Branch Historical Society, the North Branch Gardening Club, and the Diversified Dozen Investment Club. Delores will be sadly missed by her husband, children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Maynard; sons, Thomas DeGrow and his wife, Linda, of Midland, and William DeGrow and his wife, Mary, of Okemos; grandsons, Patrick Thompson and his wife, Carol, of Lansing, Kristopher DeGrow and his wife, Traci, of Midland and Seth DeGrow, of Midland; two great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter. John Schlicht John M. Schlicht, 86, of Franklin, N.C., died on Friday, May 16, 2003, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born on March 6, 1917 in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of the late Michael and Susanne (Gellnar) Schlicht. He was united in marriage to Dolores Ann Puype on Dec. 20, 1957 in Grosse Pointe. John had been employed as a heavy equipment operator for Oakland County Road Commission for 14 years before retiring in 1970. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Franklin, N.C. He was an avid sports enthusiast and also enjoyed fishing. John is survived by his wife, Dolores; one daughter, Elaine Cornett and her husband, Robert, of Oxford; one son, Kevin Schultz, of Rochester; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Kuck, of Waterford, Helen Heiden, of Bay City; one brother, Martin Schlicht, of Clio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and Herman A. Schlicht; and one sister, Mary Draggert. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at the Dinkel-Juengel Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The Rev. Tuesday, May 20, 2003 Wilfred Apley Wilfred "Moon" Apley, 76, of Bad Axe, died Sunday, May 19, 2003, at Select Specialty Hospital in Flint after a long illness. He was born on July 31, 1926 in Bad Axe, son of the late Asa W. and Nellie (King) Apley. Moon Apley and Susan Handa were married Aug. 21, 1947 in Tokyo, Japan. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the V.F.W. Post 2945, Sandusky. He was a former Bad Axe Little League Coach, an ardent bowler and loved to hunt and fish. Surviving are his wife, Susan; four sons, James H. and his wife, Rose, of Cass City, David A. and his wife, Brenda, of Bad Axe, Roger W., of Sandusky and Asa W., of Bad Axe; one daughter, Mellie Lowry and her husband, Bill, of Greenville; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Bernice Schwerin, of Sandusky, Alta Gonzalez and her husband, Joseph, of North Muskegon, Marge Corning and her husband, Lowell, of Muskegon and Inez Gerstenschlager and her husband, Al, of Bad Axe. He was preceded in death by one son, Wilfred Jr.; three brothers, Wallace, Archie and Stanley; two sisters, Evelyn Moeller and Lorraine Woolner; and two infant sisters. Services will be at the H. W. Weitenberner Funeral Home in Bad Axe at 11 a.m. on Thursday. The Rev. Bryan Crampton, pastor of the Bad Axe Church of the Nazarene, will officiate. Cremation will follow at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until the service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Thomas Cottick Thomas Cottick, 84, of Caseville, died Monday morning, May 19, 2003, at Huron Medical Care Facility, Bad Axe. He was born on April 24, 1919 in Manitoba, Canada to the late Stanley and Molly (Godick) Cottick and moved from Canada to Detroit in his youth and then to Bad Axe in the early thirties. On May 21, 1945, he was united in marriage to Ann J. Danyluk in Detroit. He served in the U.S. Marines as a Sergeant during World War II. He was wounded while serving in the South Pacific, Iwo Jima and Saipan and received three silver stars and two purple hearts for his heroic part in those battles. After the service, he worked for the Huron Daily Tribune as a typesetter for several years. In 1948, he worked as a service and parts manager for Bulen Motors in Cass City until 1957. At that time, he came to Caseville where he was a land developer, real estate agent and contractor, retiring in 1982 for health reasons. He was a past member of the Caseville American Legion, the Tip of the Thumb VFW, and he always attended the fourth Marine Division reunions and was a big supporter of the Military and Space Museum in Frankenmuth where some of his memorabilia is on display. He is survived by his wife, Ann; his son, John Cottick and his wife, Colleen, of Caseville; one daughter, Linda Bukoski and her husband, Thomas, of Ubly; five grandchildren, Billie Lynn, Connie, Clint, Colby and Jamie; four great-grandchildren, Keagan, Jeffery, Mikukla and Lauren; one brother, Steve Cottick and his wife, Sylvia, of Caseville; and one sister, Mary Gershtenslager and her husband, Harold, of McMinnville, Tenn.. Marion Dumaw Marion Glendora Dumaw, 94, life long resident of Meade Township near Pinnebog, died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Boulder Park Terrace Nursing Home in Charlevoix. Mrs. Dumaw was born Dec. 5, 1908 at Pinnebog. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary Jane (Eddy) Whitney. Miss Marion Whitney and Harold Dumaw were married on Oct. 7, 1939 at Asbury College, Whitemore, Ky. Mr. Dumaw preceded his wife in death on May 8, 1988. Marion was a very active member of Pinnebog United Methodist Church, The Mary Eddy Circle, Michigan Education Association, Farm Bureau and National Retired Teacher's Association. She taught elementary school for 38 years at one- room school houses in Kinde, Pinnebog, and Pigeon. She also enjoyed reading and discussing politics. Marion is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Beaumont and her husband, Robert, of Charlevoix; three sisters, Irene Thompson, of Columbus, N.C., Florence Zimmer, of Caseville, Evelyn Adams and her husband, John, of Pinnebog; two grandchildren, Britton Beaumont and his wife, Elizabeth, of Kalamazoo and Katherine Beaumont. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, and her sister, Alice Christner. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. The Rev. Memorials may be offered to Pinnebog United Methodist Church. Robert Graham Robert James Graham, 86, of Snover, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at Tendercare in Cass City. He was born on Dec. 12, 1916 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Thomas and Caroline (Cummings) Graham. Robert married June Karaschin on Sept. 20, 1941 in Detroit. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He moved to this area 42 years ago for Eastpointe. He was a tool and dye maker in Detroit, worked as a milk hauler for Wesley Creamery in Cass City from 1960 to 1966, was a maintenance man for the Kilbuck School in Bethel, Alaska, and after retirement in 1986, he became a handy man on the farm. Robert was a member of the Deford Community Church. He is survived by his wife, June; sons, Robert and his wife, Dianne, Graham, Brian Graham, of Alaska, James Graham, of Alaska; daughters, Kathleen Peruski and her husband, Fred, of Snover, Joan Hull and her husband, Roy, of Decker; twin sister, Jean Grim, of Cass City; 26 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, David and Paul; four brothers; and one sister. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2003, at Deford Community Church. Cecelia Kondziolka Cecelia Kondziolka, 87, of Bad Axe and formerly of Rapson, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2003, at Courtney Manor of Bad Axe. Cecelia was born on July 6, 1915 in Rapson to the late Leon and Frances (Talaski) Miller. She married Casimer M. Kondziolka on Nov. 7, 1938 at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Rapson. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1993. Cecelia attended the Rapson School through the eighth grade. She lived in Centerline for 35 years before returning to Rapson. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning, crocheting, cards, word searches, puzzles and her flowers. Cecelia is survived by two sons, David Kondziolka and his wife, Pamela, of Washington Township and Leo Kondziolka and his wife, Debra, of Warren; five daughters, Frances Schroen, and Marcella Gauthreaux, both of Bad Axe, Marian Licavoli and her husband, Chuck, of Clearwater, Fla., Caroline Opatik and Loretta Lewis, both of Warren; 26 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Earnest Miller, of Port Austin; one sister, Leona Roberts and her husband, Vincent, of Harbor Beach. Cecelia was preceded in death by three sisters, Selma Swartz, Pauline Wrubel, and Marcy Swartz. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2003, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson. Harold Morrish Harold "Brownie" Floyd Morrish, 73, of Cass City, died Monday, May 19, 2003, in his home. He was born Aug. 6, 1929 in Cass City to Charles and Esther (Kittendorf) Morrish. He married Sally Mae Brown on May 21, 1976 in Ubly. Harold lived in Cass City most his life. He worked as a truck driver and welder and retired from RCS in Gagetown. He then went to work at the Cass City Stockyards in the cattle barn up until his recent illness. He loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed farming, camping, hunting deer and raccoons, and training his late dog to do tricks. Harold is survived by his wife, Sally Mae; children, Wanda Joy Reddick and her husband, Carl, of Anahuac, Texas, Ruth Ann Riccardi and her husband, Paul, of Hillsboro, Ore., Bonnie Marie Rolston and her husband, Dennis, of Cass City, Joy Ann Marie Horning and her husband, Ronald, of Mayville, Floyd Harrison Morrish and his wife, Ethel, of Gagetown, Gloria Jean Stilson and her husband, Thomas, of Ubly, Max Bernard Morrish, of Cass City, Janet Lee Williams and her husband, Charles, of Gagetown, Sharon Lynn Ashcroft and her husband, Randy, of Fremont, Ind.; step-children, Alvin Joseph Bosley, of Cass City, Ronda Beatrice Snow and her husband, Steve, of Ubly, Randy Dean Bosley and his wife, Ethel, of Bad Axe; 68 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; brother, Charles Morrish and his wife, Delores, of Traverse City; several nieces and nephews. Nancy Poppeck Nancy H. Poppeck, 70, lifelong resident of Harbor Beach, was called to heaven on Monday, May 19, 2003, from Mercy Hospital in Port Huron. She was born on March 20, 1933 to the late Frank and Ollie (Karg) Learman. On May 21, 1955, Nancy and Nolan Poppeck were united in marriage in Harbor Beach. He preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1982. She was a former employee of the Mihlethaler Clothing Co. of Harbor Beach. Nancy also worked for the Sandman Grocery Store for several years until 1983. Nancy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Harbor Beach and was a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary of Harbor Beach Post 197. She loved gardening, bird watching and doing crafts. She enjoyed visiting with her many special friends, neighbors and her family that she treasured dearly. Nancy will be sadly missed by her children and grandchildren. She was very proud of her three grandchildren. She is survived by two children, William Poppeck and his wife, Corrine, of Lake Orion, Sharon Abbott and her husband, Charles, of Bad Axe; three grandchildren, Jennifer Abbott, of East Lansing, Carrie Abbott, of Bad Axe and Matthew Abbott, of Bad Axe; three sisters, Eileen Noble and her husband, Ray, of Harbor Beach, Lynda Coulston and her husband, Ken, of Grand Rapids, Gloria Cox and her husband, James, of Port Huron; sisters-in-law, Judy Learman, Leotta Tilt and Donna Poppeck; and many special nieces and nephews. Memorials may be given to the Harbor Beach Lighthouse Preservation Society. George Rees George E. Rees, 87, of Bad Axe, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2003, following an extended illness. He was born on April 21, 1916 in Rapson, son of the late Thomas and Catherine (Bryce) Rees. He married Eleanora Zuendel on Sept. 7, 1940, in the manse of the Harbor Beach Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Bad Axe High School Class of 1934. He served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre from 1943 to 1946. He worked for the Detroit Edison Company 43 years until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed bowling and golf. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eleanore Rees, of Bad Axe; two daughters, Sharon Wilkins and her husband, Steve, of Kirkland, Wash., Linda Veale and her husband, Dennis, of Fremont; six grandchildren, Steve Wilkins and his wife, Kelly, Mary Konarek, Kevin Lowery and his wife, Teri, Amy Veale, Rebecca Veale, and Jennifer Veale; 5 great-grandchildren, Zoe Wilkins, Meadow Wilkins, Cody Konarek, Alyssa Konarek, and Jake Lowery; four sisters-in-law, Jean Rees, of Bad Axe, Myrtle Rees, of Sandusky, Alice Gilroy, of Georgia, Evelyn Irwin, of Bad Axe; and many nieces and nephews. Reinhardt, 59, of Owendale, passed away Monday, May 19, 2003, at her home after a lengthy illness. Judi was born on Aug. 3, 1943 to Carl and Stella Errer of Owendale. She graduated from Owendale-Gagetown High School and attended Central Michigan University and Michigan State University. Judi worked for the House of Representatives and then for the Republican State Central Committee. Judi married Ron Reinhardt on Sept. 26, 1964. She was a lifelong active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linkville and while living in Caseville, she was involved with the formation of a mission congregation that became Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Sand Point. Judi enjoyed working on the family farm, shopping, gardening, cooking, fishing, and spending quality time with family and friends. She also played a vital role in her community. She was an inspiration to many people, with the courage and strength she showed and shared while dealing with her difficulties. She was a devoted mother and a fun, loving and giving grandmother. Judi is survived by her loving husband, Ron Reinhardt, of Owendale; three children, Jason Reinhardt and his wife, Patricia, of Pigeon, Tiffany Reinhardt, of East Grand Rapids, and Marc Reinhardt and his wife, Jodi, of Sebewaing; four grandchildren, McKenzie, Kaitlyn, Sara, and Adam Reinhardt; mother, Stella Errer of Owendale; sister, Pat Enderle and her husband, Tony, of Owendale; sister-in-law, Pam Dinsmore and her husband, Bill, of Unionville; two nephews; seven nieces; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Maryann Wendling Maryann Wendling, 77, of Caseville, died Sunday evening, May 18, 2003, at Saint Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. She was born on Aug. 5, 1925 in Gagetown to the late Anthony and Anna (Fila) Ignatowski. Mary and Michael Wendling were married Dec. 4, 1943 in Detroit. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1981. She had moved to the Detroit area during her youth and then moved to Caseville in 1991 from Wyandotte to be near her family. She was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church, past member of the Eagle Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. Mary loved baking and gardening. She is survived by one brother, William Ignatowski and his wife, Anna, of Caseville; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Leese, of California and Ann Murphy, of Florida; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Joseph, Walter and Patrick Ignatowski; three sisters, Catherine Andreski, Stella Marvinetz and Lillian Fetters; two dogs, Trixey and Buttons. Shirley Wichert Shirley A. Wichert, 67, of Pigeon, passed away Saturday morning, May 17, 2003, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. She was born in Chandler Township on April 14, 1936, the daughter of the late William G. and Luelle (Ewald) Young and graduated from Pigeon High School in 1954. On Nov. 6, 1954, she was united in marriage to Robert J. Wichert at the First Methodist Church in Pigeon. Mrs. Wichert owned and operated a craft store in Richmond until the late 1980's, returning to Huron County in August 2000. She enjoyed crafts such as porcelain dolls and basket-making and was a fine seamstress as well as a very good cook. She enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Wichert was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pigeon. She is survived by her husband, Robert J. Wichert, of Pigeon; four children, Linda Kondek and her husband, Larry, of Richmond, Peggy Merecki, of Romeo, Patty Campis and her husband, David, of Pigeon, Billy Wichert and his wife, Jill, of Saint Clair; 12 grandchildren, Benjamin, Katherine, Emily, Josiah, Jennifer, Stephanie, Katie, Jason, She'anne, David, Natalie, and James; a brother, James Young, of Bad Axe; mother-in-law, Lena Wichert, of Pigeon; in-laws, Edwin and Lou Wichert, of Frankfort, Nancy and Jed Kain, of Richmond, Donald and Dulcie Wichert, of Pigeon, Arlene and Sherman Stevens, of Bay Port; and many nieces and nephews. Mabel Woods Mabel Woods, 81, of Caseville, died Monday morning, May 19, 2003, at Tender Care Nursing Facility in Cass City. She was born on Sept. 14, 1921 in Monette, Ark. to the late William and Florence (Helton) Taylor. Mabel moved from Kalamazoo to Caseville in 1998 to be near family. She is survived by her son, Terry Hogan and his wife, Linda, of Caseville; two grandchildren, Sean Hogan, of Caseville and Niki Hogan, of Ann Arbor; two great-grandchildren, Gabe and Aidan; a brother and two sisters. Wednesday, May 21, 2003 Eleanor Keller Eleanor Keller, 91, died Monday, May 19, 2003, in Crown Point Assisted Living, Spring Hill, Fla. She was born June 16, 1911 in Kansas to Nicholas and Lena (Schmidt) Bauer. She married John Keller on Aug. 17, 1929 in Argyle. He died on June 12, 1961. Eleanor retired from Caro State Hospital. She was a member of St. Joseph's Alter Society in Argyle, where she attended church. She lived on her farm in rural Cass City for nearly 60 years, where she loved to garden and grew beautiful flowers. She also made many afghans. Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Rosalie Walsh and her husband, Louis, of Ubly, Betty Bell, of Chicago, Ill., Joyce Crouse and her husband, Don, of Spring Hill, Fla.; sons, John Keller Jr., of Sandusky, Carl Keller and his wife, Barb, of Argyle, Frank Keller and his wife, Nancy, of Cass City; son-in-law, Robert Brown, of Cass City; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Richard Stahl Richard Howard Stahl, 85, of Bad Axe, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe after a long illness. He was born on Dec. 29, 1917 in Detroit, son of the late Edward F. and Henrietta (Schoen) Stahl. Richard H. Stahl and Carol E. Filion were married on Jan. 10, 1945 in Detroit. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bad Axe, and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. Richard loved music and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Carol; three sons, Richard J. and his wife, Linda, of Elkton, Md., James F. and his wife, Linda, of Bad Axe, and Thomas C. and his wife, Sue, of Bad Axe; two daughters, Margaret "Peg" Freeman and her husband, Forrest, of Easton, Penn. and Jaynne Ignash, of Bad Axe; ten grandchildren, Melissa Stahl, Dr. Ryan Stahl, Heath Stahl, Richard J. Hartz, 87, of Port Hope, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility near Bad Axe following a long illness. Born in Port Hope on April 23, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Theresa (Schave) Pleiness. Emma Pleiness and Ernest Hartz were united in marriage on Oct. 9, 1937 in Ruth. He preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1996. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope. Emma enjoyed baking, gardening, and visiting with family and friends. Shivley, 78, of Bay Port and formerly of Saginaw, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. The eldest of 11 children of the late John and Nettie (Willoughby) Case, Emma was born Sept. 9, 1924 in Newport, Kentucky. She married George Shivley on Oct. 11, 1945. He preceded her in death in August of 1975. She was a companion of Martin C. Eberlein until his death in 2001. Friday, May 23, 2003 Carlton Currey Carlton F. "Con" Currey, 86, of Sebewaing, died Thursday morning, May 22, 2003, at Brian's House in Essexville following a lengthy illness. He was born on Sept. 21, 1916 in Sebewaing, the son of the late Frederick and Caroline (Finkbeiner) Currey. He was united in marriage to Vernita K. Gettel on July 14, 1945 in Kilmanagh. Carlton was a lifelong farmer in the Sebewaing area. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and had served as trustee and elder. He was secretary of the Sebewaing Beet Growers Association for 25 years. He served on the Sebewaing Farmer's Cooperative Board and was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Sebewaing Sportsmen's Club. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and playing cards. He is survived by his wife, Vernita, of Sebewaing; two sons, James Currey and his wife, Fran, of Medford, N.J., Donald Currey and his wife, Joanne, of Huxley, Iowa; one granddaughter, Kelly Currey; two step-grandsons, Matthew and Jonathan Landon; two sisters, Dorothy and her husband, Melvin Kuisel, and Laura Pearsall, all of Sebewaing; one sister-in-law, Maureen Currey, of Rochester Hills; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy Kirsch Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Kirsch, 81, of Parisville, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at Huron Medical Center of Bad Axe. Dorothy was born July 5, 1921 in Delaware Township to the late John and Rebecca (Wurm) Reiche. She married Clarence Carl Kirsch on April 20, 1940 in Carsonville. He preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1975. Dorothy was an eighth grade graduate of the Linwood Country School. She was a homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She and her husband raised a family and farmed in Ruth all their married life until his death in 1975. She resided in Parisville for the last 16 years. She also worked for Dotts Manufacturing of Deckerville for 11 years. She was a member of 4-H, where she got her motto "Rip & Sew". She followed her mother's footsteps and created many beautiful quilts. She also enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, and word searches. Gardening was something she looked forward to each spring. She especially enjoyed tending to her flowers. She was especially proud of her family and enjoyed visiting with them. She always looked forward to family reunions and Christmas gatherings. Dorothy is survived by three daughters, Jean Geiger and her husband, Herb, of Bay City, Ruth Ann Adler and her husband, Ronald, of New Hudson, Judy Mausolf and her husband, Tim, of Minden City; six sons, Donald Kirsch and his wife, Bessie (Schumacher), of Port Hope, Ronald Kirsch and his wife, Kay (Patterson), of Livonia, Gerald Kirsch and his wife, Sheila (Kowalski), of Plymouth, Gary Kirsch and his wife, Joan (Schumacher), or Ruth, Robert Kirsch and his wife, Deborah (Weiss), of Harbor Beach, Richard Kirsch, of Parisville; 26 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Weber, of Kinde, Ruth Sorise and her husband, Joseph, of Lapeer; one brother, Elmer Reiche and his wife, Helen, of Delaware Township; two sisters-in-law, Marion O'Gorman, of Bloomfield Hills, Betty Demick, of St. Clair.
