Sunday, April 20, 2003 Raymond Andreski Raymond Andreski, 91, of Kinde, passed away Friday, April 18, 2003, peacefully at his home, where he was born on Oct. 23, 1911, the son of the late Frank and Hattie (Ignash) Andreski. On Nov. 10, 1945, Raymond was united in marriage to Frances Kozlowski at St. Michael's Church in Port Austin. Raymond farmed in Lincoln Township his entire life. He enjoyed farming and ice fishing. Raymond is survived by his wife, Frances; their children, Ruthann Sitko and her husband, Gerald, of Pennsylvania, Arnold Andreski and his wife, Nancy, of Bay City, Duane Andreski and his wife, Karen, of Bad Axe; daughter-in-law, Marge (Andreski) Frantz and her husband, Dick, of Kinde; 12 grandchildren, Jeffrey Andreski and his wife, Allyn, Jennifer Priewe and her husband, Mark, Greg Andreski, Traci King and her husband, Mark, Tammi Peck and her husband, Randy, Bradley Andreski, Heidi Andreski, Katie Andreski, and Steven, Christopher, Emily and Elizabeth Sitko; one great-grandchild, Sidney Peck; and one step-great- grandchild, Allie King. He was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Andreski, in 1989, and by eight brothers and six sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 21, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kinde, with burial in the church cemetery. Fr. Mieczyslaw Oniskiewicz will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, and from 9-10 a.m. Monday at MacAlpine Funeral Home/Gage Chapel in Kinde. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. Elizabeth Naffien Elizabeth Naffien, 88, of Sebewaing, died Friday evening, April 18, 2003, at Tendercare of Cass City following a lengthy illness. She was born April 3, 1915 in Sebewaing, daughter of the late Christopher and Louisa (Funk) Gayari. She was united in marriage to Albert G. Naffien on Dec. 9, 1939 in Linkville. He preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1979. Elizabeth was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Surviving are two daughters, Ella Herman and her husband, Adam, of Sebewaing, and Margaret Baur and her husband, Joe, of Standish; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step- great-grandchildren; one sister, Susan Gunsell, of Sebewaing; two brothers, Chris Gayari, of Linkville, and Jack Gayari and his wife, Theresa, of Flint; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Donald Naffien; one sister, Mary Schumacher; and two brothers, Martin and Peter Gayari. Mary White-Jones Mary Louise White-Jones, 53, of Bad Axe and formerly of Cass City, died April 3, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. She was born on Aug. 4, 1949 in Pigeon. She retired in 1998 from her job as a medical receptionist. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and shopping. She is survived by daughters, Stacey A. White and Yarnell Wilson and her husband, Tom; two brothers, Walt Priemer and James Priemer; two sisters, Debbie Atkins and Mickey Kamenar. Memorial mass will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bad Axe, with Fr. John Killop officiating. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Arrangements are being handled by Thabet Funeral Home in Richmond. Monday, April 21, 2003 Robert Betson Robert A. Betson, 77, of Unionville, died early Sunday morning, April 20, 2003, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born on Feb. 16, 1926 in Fort Wayne, Ind., son of the late Aloysius P. and Irene (Pessfall) Betson. He was united in marriage to Rose Marie Charette on Sept. 23, 1950 in Detroit. He was a decorated veteran serving in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the purple heart. Bob had owned and operated a Marathon Gas Station in Lake Orion for 20 years before moving to Sebewaing in 1969. He then had been employed at the former Sebewaing Industries for 15 years before retiring 10 years ago. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Sebewaing. He also was a member of the Fairgrove V.F.W. Post No. 7486. He enjoyed working in his yard, bowling and deer hunting. He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie; two daughters and two sons, Judith A. Blount and her husband, Robert, Thomas J. Betson and his wife, Nancy, all of Sebewaing, Robert J. Betson and his wife, Danielle, Lynn M. Hemerline and her husband, Olin, all of Unionville; nine grandchildren; one great- granddaughter; one sisters, Mary Lou Phillips of Albuquerque, N.M.; one brother, Richard Betson of Southfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon T. Betson; and one brother, James Betson. Gliniecki, 78, of Parisville, passed away Sunday morning, April 20, 2003, at his home. Charles was born on March 9, 1925 in Parisville to the late Joseph and Johanna (Kubacki) Gliniecki. He married Roseline M. Block on Oct. 28, 1950 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Ruth. Charles attended St. Mary's School in Parisville and Ubly High School. He worked at the Carmet Company for 30 years and farmed. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville. He was a member and past president of the St. Mary Men's Club and served on the parish council. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, woodworking, fishing, snowmobiling, hunting, woodcarving, and spending time with his family. Charles is survived by his wife, Roseline, of Parisville; six daughters, Charlene M. Gliniecki and her husband, Steve Crothers, of Palo Alto, Calif., Jeanne A. Eilers and her husband, Dave, of Ubly, Karen Lupinski and her husband, Michael, of Bad Axe, Annette S. Goebel, 81, of Sebewaing, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Covenant Medical Center-Cooper in Saginaw following a short illness. She was born July 24, 1921 in Sebewaing, daughter of the late Henry and Michelina (Oelke) Stecker. She was united in marriage to Clemence H. Goebel on July 24, 1948 in Sebewaing. He preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 1999. Edna was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing, the ladies aid, the birthday club, Farm Bureau and she also enjoyed playing cards. She is survived by one son, Wayne Goebel and his wife, Sheree, of Sebewaing; three grandchildren, Amber, Ryan and Chad Goebel; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet, in 1976; four sisters, Elsie Driem, Helen Jedele, Emma Nitz and Alma Nitz; six brothers, Gustave, Carl, William, Nicholas, David, and Frederick Stecker. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel Hahn will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Rudy Stiphany Rudy Stiphany, 87, formerly of Harbor Beach, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2003, in University Hospital, Tampa, Fla. Born in Grand Haven on Dec. 1, 1915, he was the son of the late Rudolph and Josephine Stiphany. Rudy was in the U.S. Coast Guard for 22 years and was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service. While stationed in Harbor Beach, Rudy met his future wife of 56 years, Helen O'Neil. They were united in marriage on Oct. 29, 1927 in Frankfort. She preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 1993. Rudy is survived by his children, Gary Stiphany and his wife, Susan, of Miami, Fla., Jenny Lee Hillenbrand and her husband, Tom, of Janesville, Wis., Coleen Kopp and her husband, Ed, of Kentwood, Kathleen Stackpoole and her husband, Jim, of Lutz, Fla., Marlene Dorman and her husband, Bruce, of Big Rapids; five grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Hillenbrand; two brothers, Fred and John; and by three sisters, Josephine, Rose and Ann. Wing, 98, of Pigeon and formerly of Sebewaing, died early Monday morning, April 21, 2003, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon following a brief illness. She was born May 11, 1904 in Sebewaing, daughter of the late Frederick and Bertha (Remter) Werschky. She was united in marriage to Arthur Weimer. He preceded her in death. She then married Roy Wing on Nov. 7, 1975. Leota was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Berne Rd., Pigeon. She is survived by her husband, Roy Wing, of Pigeon; two nephews, Raymond Werschky and his wife, Darlene, of Sebewaing, Alvin Werschky of Reese; one niece, Irene Lapak and her husband, Alvin, of Richville; one step- daughter, Betty Mitchell of Las Vegas, Nev.; one step-granddaughter, Mary Wyatt and her husband, Tom, of Las Vegas, Nev.; several grand nieces and grand nephews; several great-grand nieces, nephews and great-great grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Frieda Armbruster, Meta Weidner, Della Bauer; three brothers, Ernest Werschky, Arthur Werschky and Clarence Werschky. Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church in Berne. Wednesday, April 23, 2003 Darlene Dorsch Darlene R. Dorsch, 56, of Pigeon, died early Tuesday morning, April 22, 2003, at Sunny Acres Nursing Center in Bad Axe following a six-month illness. She was born Nov. 20, 1946 in Saginaw, daughter of Arlene (Neuenkirch) and the late Leonard Faber. Darlene was a 1964 graduate of Sebewaing High School. She had been employed with Saginaw Asphalt Paving Company as a weighmaster in Ubly. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linkville and had been involved with vacation bible school and served on the special events committee. She also enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, shopping, and arts and crafts. She is survived by two sons, Steven A. Czap serving in the U.S. Army at Ft. Jackson, S.C., Dennis Czap of Pigeon; her mother, Arlene Faber of Sebewaing; two granddaughters, Marana Laine Czap and Aszlan Brynn Czap; three brothers, Theodore Faber and Terry Faber, both of Sebewaing, and Keith Faber, living in Florida; and several nieces and nephews. James McGee James E. "Jim" McGee, 59, of Bad Axe, owner and operator of Jim McGee Appliance Repair, passed away Monday, April 21, 2003, at his home following an extended illness. He was born on Sept. 11, 1943 in Bad Axe, son of the late Erwyn McGee and Edna (Bambach) McGee. He married Colleen DesJardin on Jan. 29, 1965 in Germany while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Jim always enjoyed gatherings at his home with family and friends whether it was having a fish fry, bonfires, playing cards, or sharing in a few good jokes. He also took pleasure in carpentry and woodworking. He was a member of the Bad Axe High School Class of 1963. Moore, 90, of Caseville, died on Tuesday, April 15, 2003, in King Nursing Centre in Houghton Lake. She was born on June 18, 1912 in Detroit to Frederick and Ellen (Christmas) Waites. She married Donald W. Moore on July 10, 1933 in Detroit. He preceded her in death in 1975. Doris retired in 1973, after 36 years of service, from General Motors where she was an office manager. She attended United Methodist Church of Caseville and was a charter and life member of the Caseville Eagles Auxiliary No. 3690. She is survived by a daughter, Donna Davis and her husband, Tom, of St. Helen; two grandchildren, Don and Dawn; one great-granddaughter, Holly. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald W. Moore; three sisters. The arrangements are being handled by Walsh Funeral Home in Roscommon. Herbert Thompson Herbert Warren Thompson, 78, of Flushing and Mikado and formerly of Harbor Beach, died peacefully at his winter home in Jensen Beach, Fla. on Saturday, March 29, 2003. He was born in Harbor Beach on Nov. 4, 1924 to George Herbert Thompson and Lucy Ritchie. He married his high school sweetheart, Lorraine Kramer, on Oct. 16, 1948 in Reese. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed as a master electrician at Rapson Electric and Hercules Power Company in Harbor Beach until moving to Flushing in 1963. He worked at Ternstedt Division of GM in Flint until retiring in 1981. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the VFW, and the American Legion. Mr. Thompson also served on the Harbor Beach City Council and volunteer fire department. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; eight children, Laurine (Rene) Hook, of Golden, Colo., Douglas Thompson and Kathleen Wiget, both of Flushing, Nancy Thompson, of Lausanne, Switzerland, Jo Ann Ruff, of Grand Blanc, Dorie Lu Strater, of Calgary, Canada, Beth Smith, of Kokomo, Ind., and Daniel Thompson, of Princeton, N.J.; spouses of his children, Robert Hook, Janet Thompson, David Wiget, Frank Strater, John Smith, and LuAnn Labian; 13 grandchildren, Nick and Nathan Hook, Lisa Ruff, Alan Thompson, Jessica and Andrew Wiget, Brandon and Jacob Smith, Danielle and Dylan Thompson, Blair, Haley and Madison Thompson; brother-in- law, Joe Kramer of Harbor Beach. Edwards, 87, of Ruth, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at his home of an apparent heart attack. Earl was born Jan. 2, 1916 in Detroit to the late Elmer and Gertrude (Gilcrest) Edwards. He married Mary Ann Seidl on May 9, 1942 at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. She preceded him in death on Sept. 3, 1997. Earl attended Nativity Elementary School and graduated from Nativity High School, both of Detroit. He attended Michigan State University for two years, studying accounting. He was a private first class in the United States Army, stationed in Japan and the Philippines. He was retired from the Ruth Farmer's Elevator in Ruth. He was a volunteer firefighter for Sherman Township for 36 years. He was a member of the Parisville VFW Post No. 5740. He was a parishioner at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth where he was very involved at the church and school. He is survived by his children, Thomas E. Edwards and his wife, Mary Lou Finucan, of Berkley, Barbara A. Annabelle Fatalski Annabelle May Fatalski, of Westland, formerly of the Port Crescent Area, passed away Tuesday morning, April 22, 2003, at Garden City Hospital. She was born June 28, 1931 in Hume Township, the daughter of the late John and Nellie (McCarren) Flanery. She was valedictorian of her senior class at North Huron School in Kinde and a practical nurse. She married Richard Fatalski on Aug. 20, 1955 in Detroit. He is from the Detroit area. She is survived by her husband, Richard; two sisters, Delores Olson, of Evarts, Grace Baker and her husband, Bill, of Bad Axe; five brothers, Robert and his wife, Carol, of Lincoln Park, James, of Dearborn, David and his wife, Y-HE, of Maricopa, Ariz., Patrick and his wife, Judy, of Traverse City, Joseph and his wife, Charlene, of Allen Park; a sister-in-law, Lois McCarren, of Hazel Park; a brother-in-law, Jim Fatalski and his wife, Henrietta, of Las Vegas, Nev.; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Richard Jackson Richard R. "Dick" Jackson, 64, of Bad Axe, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at Covenant Copper Hospital in Saginaw. He was born July 19, 1938 in Pontiac, son of Virginia Mae Jackson of Bad Axe and the late Elroy. He moved to the Bad Axe area in 1971, and was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and worked at Active Industries for 16 years, retiring in 1987. He is survived by his mother and special friend, Louwanda Armstead; six children, Cindy Rettig and her husband, Bob, of Amelia, Ohio, Ken Jackson of Cincinnati, Ohio, Dolly Jackson of Amelia, Ohio, Angela Schultz and her husband, Jim, of Midland; Laura Beard and her husband, Bill, of Dearborn, and Richard Jackson Jr. of Midland; and ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Bobbie Jackson. Private cremation services were conducted through the H.W. Weitenberner Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Nancy Russell Nancy L. Russell, 64, of Caseville, died Thursday morning, April 24, 2003, at Scheurer Hospital Emergency Room following a massive heart attack. She was born Nov. 29, 1938 in Vermontville, daughter of the late Lee and Helen (McRorie) Mix. Mr. Mix died when Nancy was 6 years old. Her mother then married Anthony Lenic and he became her father. She grew up in Eaton County. On Feb. 17, 1990, she was united in marriage to Royal "Skip" Russell in Warren. Nancy was the manager of the Fryer Tuck Restaurant in Clinton Township for more than 15 years retiring in 1997. In 1998, the couple moved to their retirement home in Caseville Township. She enjoyed reading, gardening and doing crossword puzzles. Surviving are her husband, Skip; her brother, Roy Mix, of Charlotte, and her sister, Ferona Wiser, of Traverse City. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. A memorial service may be planned for a later date. Friends and family may sign the guest book at www.CFCcaseville.com. Dorothy Stockoski Dorothy V. Stockoski, 80, of Port Austin, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at her home. She was born on Jan. 31, 1923 in Kinde, daughter of the late Anthony and Gertrude (Miller) Koroleski. She and Irvin Stockoski were married on May 6, 1944 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dwight Township. Dorothy attended Kelly School and worked at Schmidt's General Store, Olens Specialty, Pendelton Shop, and Huron Laundry, all in Port Austin. She enjoyed fishing, reading and working in her garden. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Irvin, of Port Austin; her son, Ronald, of Port Austin; her brother, Anthony Koroleski and his wife, Jackie, of Kinde; three sisters, Mary Jane Fillingham of Leslie, Matilda Fisher and her husband, Tom, of Kinde, Joanne Rutkowski of Ocala, Fla.; the sisters-in-law, Ruth Ann Koroleski of Kinde, and Virginia Koroleski of Bad Axe. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Jerome, Felix, Louis, and Frederick; and one sister, Genevieve. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2003, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. The Rev. Mieczyslaw Oniskiewicz will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today, and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. There will be a Vigil at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. 1
