Sunday, July 27, 2003 James Krease James Krease, 75, of Caseville, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. He was born on April 7, 1928 in Detroit, son of the late Frank and Margaret (Ott) Krease. He married Jean Snyder on Jan. 12, 1952 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores. James was a member of the American Legion Frank Horetski Post #499 in Port Austin, Senior Citizens of Port Austin, and St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. He enjoyed spending his time taking scenic drives around the Thumb. James is survived by his wife, Jean; four children, Carol Krease, of Baldwin, Diane Smolinski, of Reed City, James Krease and his wife, Nancy, of Lake Orion, and Michael Krease and his wife, Donna, of St. Clair Shores; five grandchildren, Matthew Smolinski, David and Brian Krease, and Jessica and Ryan Krease. He is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Shanz, and his brother, Frank Krease, Jr. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Kramer, and his brother, William Krease. A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Port Austin. Officiating will be Fr. Robert Pare'. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. There will be visitation from 5-9 p.m. Monday at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde, and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Frank Lyon Frank Paul Lyon, 85, of Bad Axe, a retired Michigan State Trooper, died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility after a short illness. He was born June 15, 1918 in Weiser, Idaho, son of the late Frank and Daphne Lyon. Frank Lyon and Betty Anne Shanabarger were married in 1950. He joined the Michigan State Police in 1948, serving at posts in Erie, Marquette, Centerline and Bad Axe. Trooper Lyon received a citation for bravery in 1962. Frank was promoted to Sergeant in 1970 and retired from the Bad Axe Post in 1973. He then became circulation manager at the Huron Daily Tribune from 1974 to 1985. Frank was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a life member and past president of the Bad Axe Lions Club and a charter member of the Lions Club fair stand, past president and board member of the Bad Axe Public Schools Board of Education, charter member of the Bad Axe PTA, past recipient of the Bad Axe Jaycees Distinguished service award, a 32nd Degree Mason in the Ovid Masonic Lodge, F. & A.M., a former member of Verona Hills Golf Club, and a former Bad Axe Little League coach. In retirement, Frank loved to visit with his family and friends. Surviving are three sons, Mike Lyon and his wife, Becky, of Bad Axe, Kelly Lyon, of Kalamazoo, and Kerry Lyon, of Venice, Florida.; one daughter, Polly Lyon-Baxter and her husband, Tom, of Sarasota, Florida; four grandchildren, Sidney, Mallory and Michael Lyon, of Marshall, and Sara Baxter, of Sarasota, Fla. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bad Axe. The Rev. Kenneth Lueke, pastor, will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the H. W. Weitenberner Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Cremation will follow. Mouton Barbara Alice Mouton, 68, of Port Austin, died suddenly while on vacation Friday, July 25, 2003, at TJ Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, Kentucky. She was born on Aug. 5, 1934 in Detroit, daughter of the late Dominic and Elfrieda (Paselk) Damm. Barb was extremely dedicated to the Port Austin Community Players for 30 years. She was a member of the Detroit Zoological Society, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Friends of the Detroit River. She was also a member of the Audubon Society, The Arbor Day Foundation, and the Friends of the Lighthouse. Barb loved nature, especially the animals and feeding the birds. She also enjoyed gardening, cross stitch, and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by two sons, Mark Mouton and his wife, Lesa, of Utica, and Robert Mouton, of Detroit, two daughters, Mary Howard and her husband, Rodney, of Wixom, and Lori Mouton and Thomas Marentette, of Kinde, her daughter-in- law, Colleen Mouton, of Ubly; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Kendra, Cory, Sean, Cody, Kody, Gabrielle, Andrew, and Emily. She is also survived by two brothers, David Damm and his wife, Dorothy, of Detroit, and Rodney Damm and his wife, Lois, of Mt Clemens; one sister, Phyllis Burcz and her husband, Mel, of Sterling Heights; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Mouton, and her brother, Frederick Damm. Funeral Services will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at the Knoblock Funeral Home in Kinde. Officiating will be Rev. Robert P. Garrett. Cremation will follow at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. on Tuesday, and from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral. Burial will take place at a later date in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Detroit. Barney Paulin Barney B. Paulin, 80, of Harbor Beach, passed away Friday morning, July 25, 2003, at St. Mary's Medical Center following a short illness. Born in Garden City on Aug. 24, 1922, he was the son of the late John and Magdalen (Majkowski) Paulin. Barney was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army in Northern France and Central Europe. On April 27, 1927, Barney was united in marriage to Rita Stanislawski in Garden City. Barney was an employee of General Motors Truck and Coach in Pontiac, retiring in 1986. Barney was a member of the VFW Post #3243 of Fenton. He is survived by his wife, Rita Paulin, of Harbor Beach; his children, Ernest Paulin and his wife, Sharon, of Linden, Kenneth Paulin and his wife, Barbara, of Waterford, Carol Paulin and her husband, Harvey Mausolf, of Harbor Beach, Rita Umbrieit and her husband, Dennis, of Forestville, Frederick Paulin and his wife, Tammy, of Byron, Donald Paulin, of Forestville, and Terrence Paulin, of Highland; 19 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren; and a sister, Jeanette Jenners of San Diego, Calif. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alex Paulin, and two sisters, Catherine Dlugosz and Hilda Paulin. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2003, in the Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, Harbor Beach, with Fr. John Killop officiating. Forbes, 93, resident of Colfax Township, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2003, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility. She was born in Filion on Feb. 6, 1910 to the late Edward and Ann (Barker) Johnston. Bessie Johnston and Frank Forbes were married on March 24, 1928 at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Bad Axe. Frank preceded her in death in 1982. Mrs. Forbes and her husband farmed together for 50 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, working in her flowers, crocheting and traveling. Bessie is survived by three daughters, Betty Townley and her husband, Charles, of Bad Axe; Delphine Halasz and her husband, Alfred, of Bad Axe, Constance Ostrander and her husband, Lewis, of AuGres; eight grandchildren, Sandy Halasz, David Halasz and his wife, Debbie, Jean Kandaris and her husband, Kenneth, Judy Centala and her husband, Michael, Susan Lapka and her husband, Andy, Cathy Pfaehler and her husband, Mark, Gretchen and Eric Ostrander; six great-grandchildren, Michael and Destin Centala, Daniel and Jacalin Halasz, Benjamin and Jessica Kandaris; four step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Lester Johnston; three sister-in-laws, Ester Johnston, Lorene Johnston and Cora Smith. Wednesday, July 30, 2003 Nicholas Johnson Nicholas Dougherty Johnson, 24, of Tinton Falls, N.J., died Friday, July 18, 2003, at the Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, N.J. He was born June 15, 1979 to Dr. Samuel Johnson III and Gervasia Victoria "Vickie" Johnson. Nicholas was a resident of Tinton Falls since 1991 and is formerly of Hawaii. He was a 1998 graduate of Monmouth Regional High School. He enjoyed basketball, Spanish, music, dancing, playing chess, drawing and always had an on-going game of Rummy 500 with his mother. He worked with AmeriCorp, Asbury Park. He volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, Long Beach and the Food Bank, Asbury Park. He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Vickie Young and her husband, Timothy, of Bad Axe, Juanita Dougherty and her friend, Richard Curry, Jr., of Jersey City, N.J.; his paternal grandfather, Samuel T. Johnson Jr., Pasadena, Calif.; maternal grandmother, Henrietta Martinez, of McGregor, Texas; nieces and nephews, Allen, Chealsea and Tina Young, with whom he loved spending time, as well as several loving aunts, uncles, cousins and many family friends. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at the John E. Day Funeral Home in Red Bank, N.J. James May James Steven May, 43, of Simpsonville, S.C. and formerly of Elkton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 21, 2003, at his home. James was born in Marlette to Ida (Scribner) May and the late Glen Dale May. He was united in marriage to Laura Anne Jones on Jan. 6, 1996. James attended Kingston High School and later attended Delta College to become a tool and die maker journeyman. He was employed by Tower Industries (formally Active Industries) in Elkton for many years. He worked at Magna Drive Automotive in Piedmont, S.C. for the past two years. James enjoyed playing baseball with his kids, playing cards with his family and listening to The Beatles. He is survived by his wife, Laura Anne May; his children, Kimberly May, of Bad Axe, Amanda Jones, Benjamin May, Brian Hampton, Rebecca Hampton, Glenn May, and Alex Hampton, all of Simpsonville, S.C.; his mother, Ida May, of Deford; sisters, Gloria Clink, of Washington D.C., Margaret Knight, of Creedmoor, N.C., Lorraine Fritz and her husband, Robert, of Caro, Nancy Lawrence and her husband, Ricky, of Kingston, and Jenny May, of Deford; his brothers, Glenn May and his wife, Lucy, of Caro, Dale May and his wife, Christine, of Muskegon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Glen May, and sister, Carol Wright. Cushman, Jr., 63, of Deford, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at home. She was born in Hume Township on April 16, 1917 to the late John and Ida (Batten) Goretski. Helen Goretski and Roy W. Collings were married on June 12, 1940 at the First Baptist Parsonage in Bad Axe. Roy preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1962. Mrs. Collings and her husband were life long farmers in Huron County. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, sports and watching the Detroit Tigers and the news. She attended the Calvary Baptist Church of Bad Axe. Helen is survived by two daughters, Mary Proctor, of Clarkston and Judy Mazure, of Bad Axe; seven sons, Roy and his wife, Sharon A., of Bad Axe, John and his wife, Sharon L., of Bad Axe, William and his wife, Jane, of Bad Axe, Carl, of Bad Axe, Gary and his wife, Elaine, of Deckerville, Ricky and his wife, Rose, of Bad Axe, and Randy and his wife, Kathy, of Bad Axe; 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Genevieve Collings; one brother, George E. Goretski; and one foster brother, Jack Lakomy.
